We review recent work on systems with multiple interacting-particles having the dynamical feature of stochastic resetting. The interplay of time scales related to inter-particle interactions and resetting leads to a rich behavior, both static and dynamic. The presence of multiple particles also opens up a new possibility for the resetting dynamics itself, namely, that of different particles resetting all together (global resetting) or independently (local resetting). We divide the review on the basis of specifics of reset dynamics (global versus local resetting), and further, on the basis of number (two versus a large number) of interacting particles. We consider the interaction dynamics of a classical oscillator and a quantum two-level system for different pure-dephasing Hamiltonians of the type $\widehat{H}(q,p)=H_C(q,p)\boldsymbol{1}+H_I(q,p)\widehat\sigma_z$. This type of systems represents a severe challenge for popular hybrid quantum-classical descriptions. For example, in the case of the common Ehrenfest model, the classical density evolution is shown to decouple entirely from the pure-dephasing quantum dynamics. We focus on a recently proposed hybrid wave equation that is based on Koopman's wavefunction description of classical mechanics. This model retains quantum-classical correlations whenever a coupling potential is present. Here, several benchmark problems are considered and the results are compared with those arising from fully quantum dynamics. A good agreement is found for a series of study cases involving harmonic oscillators with linear and quadratic coupling, as well as time-varying coupling parameters. In all these cases the classical evolution coincides exactly with the oscillator dynamics resulting from the fully quantum description. In the special case of time-independent coupling involving a classical oscillator with varying frequency, the quantum Bloch rotation exhibits peculiar features that escape from the hybrid description. In addition, nonlinear corrections to the harmonic Hamiltonian lead to an overall growth of decoherence at long times, which is absent in the fully quantum treatment., Comment: 24 pages, 10 figures. The illustrative wave function for a quantum disentangled liquid (QDL) composed of light and heavy particles is examined within numerical simulations. Initial measurement on light particles gives rise to the volume law of the entanglement entropy of the heavy particles subsystem. The entropy reaches its maximum value as the ratio of the system to subsystem sizes increases. The standard deviation of entanglement entropy from its thermodynamic limit due to the initial configuration of the light particle is diminished within ensemble averaging. We have introduced a quantum circuit to simulate the underlying QDL state. The results of the quantum simulation are in agreement with the numerical simulations which confirms that the introduced circuit realizes a QDL state., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

The Young's modulus $E$ is the key mechanical property that determines the resistance of solids to tension/compression. In the present work, the correlation of the quantity $E$ with such characteristics as the total molar mass $M$ of alloy components, the number of components $n$ forming an alloy, the yield stress $\sigma_{y}$ and the glass transition temperature $T_{g}$ has been studied in detail based on a large set of empirical data for the Young's modulus of different amorphous metal alloys. It has been established that the values of the Young's modulus of metal alloys under normal conditions correlate with such a mechanical characteristic as the yield stress as well as with the glass transition temperature. As found, the specificity of the ``chemical formula'' of alloy, which is determined by molar mass $M$ and number of components $n$, does not affect on elasticity of the material. The machine learning algorithm identified both the quantities $M$ and $n$ as insignificant factors in determining $E$. A simple non-linear regression model is obtained that relates the Young's modulus with $T_{g}$ and $\sigma_{y}$, and this model correctly reproduces the experimental data for metal alloys of different types. In the original Parrondo game, a single player combines two losing strategies to a winning strategy. In this paper we investigate the question what happens, if two or more players play Parrondo games in a coordinated way. We introduce a strong coupling between the player such that the gain or loss of all players in one round is the same. We investigate two possible realizations of such a coupling. For both we show that the coupling increases the gain per player. The dependency of the gain on the various parameters of the games is determined. The coupling can not only lead to a larger gain, but it can also dominate the driving mechanism of the uncoupled games. Which driving mechanism dominates, depends on the type of coupling. This paper considers canonical correlation analysis for two longitudinal variables that are possibly sampled at different time resolutions with irregular grids. We modeled trajectories of the multivariate variables using random effects and found the most correlated sets of linear combinations in the latent space. Our numerical simulations showed that the longitudinal canonical correlation analysis effectively recovers underlying correlation patterns between two high-dimensional longitudinal data sets. We applied the proposed LCCA to data from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative and identified the longitudinal profiles of morphological brain changes and amyloid cumulation., Comment: 24 pages, 16 figures

The Ising model with a transverse field and an antiferromagnetic transverse interaction is represented as a matrix in the computational basis with non-zero off-diagonal elements with both positive and negative signs and thus may be regarded to be non-stoquastic. We show that the local Boltzmann factors of such a system under an appropriate Suzuki-Trotter representation can be chosen non-negative and thus may potentially be simulated classically without a sign problem if the parameter values are limited to a subspace of the whole parameter space. We then derive conditions for parameters to satisfy asymptotically in order that simulated quantum annealing of this system converges to thermal equilibrium in the long-time limit., Comment: 20 pages

We herein report a new class of impulsive fractional stochastic differential systems driven by mixed fractional Brownian motions with infinite delay and Hurst parameter $\hat{\cal H} \in ( 1/2, 1)$. Using fixed point techniques, a $q$-resolvent family, and fractional calculus, we discuss the existence of a piecewise continuous mild solution for the proposed system. Moreover, under appropriate conditions, we investigate the approximate controllability of the considered system. SummaryPoint processes are probabilistic tools for modelling event data. While there exists a fast-growing literature on the relationships between point processes, how such relationships connect to causal effects remains unexplored. In the presence of unmeasured confounders, parameters from point process models do not necessarily have causal interpretations. We propose an instrumental variable method for causal inference with point process treatment and outcome. We define causal quantities based on potential outcomes and establish nonparametric identification results with a binary instrumental variable. We extend the traditional Wald estimation to deal with point process treatment and outcome, showing that it should be performed after a Fourier transform of the intention-to-treat effects on the treatment and outcome, and thus takes the form of deconvolution. We refer to this approach as generalized Wald estimation and propose an estimation strategy based on well-established deconvolution methods.

We obtain discrete mixture representations for parametric families of probability distributions on Euclidean spheres, such as the von Mises--Fisher, the Watson and the angular Gaussian families. In addition to several special results we present a general approach to isotropic distribution families that is based on density expansions in terms of special surface harmonics. We discuss the connections to stochastic processes on spheres, in particular random walks, discrete mixture representations derived from spherical diffusions, and the use of Markov representations for the mixing base to obtain representations for families of spherical distributions., Comment: Accepted for publication in "Statistical Papers"

The problem of testing two simple hypotheses in a general probability space is considered. For a fixed type-I error probability, the best exponential decay rate of the type-II error probability is investigated. In regular asymptotic cases (i.e., when the length of the observation interval grows without limit) the best decay rate is given by Stein's exponent. In the paper, for a general probability space, some non-asymptotic lower and upper bounds for the best rate are derived. These bounds represent pure analytic relations without any limiting operations. In some natural cases, these bounds also give the convergence rate for Stein's exponent. Ruddlesden-Popper and reduced Ruddlesden-Popper nickelates are intriguing candidates for mimicking the properties of high-temperature superconducting cuprates. The degree of similarity between these nickelates and cuprates has been the subject of considerable debate. Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) has played an important role in exploring their electronic and magnetic excitations, but these efforts have been stymied by inconsistencies between different samples and the lack of publicly available data for detailed comparison. Some of the important non-classical aspects of quantum mechanics can be described in more intuitive terms if they are reformulated in a geometrical picture based on an extension of the classical phase space. This contribution presents various phase-space properties of moments describing a quantum state and its dynamics. The paper is devoted to projective Clifford groups of quantum $N$-dimensional systems. Clearly, Clifford gates allow only the simplest quantum computations which can be simulated on a classical computer (Gottesmann-Knill theorem). However, it may serve as a cornerstone of full quantum computation. As to its group structure it is well-known that -- in $N$-dimensional quantum mechanics -- the Clifford group is a natural semidirect product provided the dimension $N$ is an odd number. For even $N$ special results on the Clifford groups are scattered in the mathematical literature, but they don't concern the semidirect structure. Using appropriate group presentation of $SL(2,Z_N)$ it is proved that for even $N$ projective Clifford groups are not natural semidirect products if and only if $N$ is divisible by four., Comment: 28 pages

The Wright--Fisher diffusion is important in population genetics in modelling the evolution of allele frequencies over time subject to the influence of biological phenomena such as selection, mutation, and genetic drift. Simulating paths of the process is challenging due to the form of the transition density. We present EWF, a robust and efficient sampler which returns exact draws for the diffusion and diffusion bridge processes, accounting for general models of selection including those with frequency-dependence. Given a configuration of selection, mutation, and endpoints, EWF returns draws at the requested sampling times from the law of the corresponding Wright--Fisher process. Output was validated by comparison to approximations of the transition density via the Kolmogorov--Smirnov test and QQ plots. Bagging is a useful method for large-scale statistical analysis, especially when the computing resources are very limited. We study here the asymptotic properties of bagging estimators for $M$-estimation problems but with massive datasets. We theoretically prove that the resulting estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal under appropriate conditions. The results show that the bagging estimator can achieve the optimal statistical efficiency, provided that the bagging subsample size and the number of subsamples are sufficiently large. Moreover, we derive a variance estimator for valid asymptotic inference. All theoretical findings are further verified by extensive simulation studies. Finally, we apply the bagging method to the US Airline Dataset to demonstrate its practical usefulness.

Sports analytics -- broadly defined as the pursuit of improvement in athletic performance through the analysis of data -- has expanded its footprint both in the professional sports industry and in academia over the past 30 years. In this paper, we connect four big ideas that are common across multiple sports: the expected value of a game state, win probability, measures of team strength, and the use of sports betting market data. For each, we explore both the shared similarities and individual idiosyncrasies of analytical approaches in each sport. While our focus is on the concepts underlying each type of analysis, any implementation necessarily involves statistical methodologies, computational tools, and data sources. Where appropriate, we outline how data, models, tools, and knowledge of the sport combine to generate actionable insights. We also describe opportunities to share analytical work, but omit an in-depth discussion of individual player evaluation as beyond our scope. This paper should serve as a useful overview for anyone becoming interested in the study of sports analytics.

All standard measures of bipartite entanglement in one-dimensional quantum field theories can be expressed in terms of correlators of branch point twist fields, here denoted by $\mathcal{T}$ and $\mathcal{T}^\dagger$. These are symmetry fields associated to cyclic permutation symmetry in a replica theory and having the smallest conformal dimension at the critical point. Recently, other twist fields (composite twist fields), typically of higher dimension, have been shown to play a role in the study of a new measure of entanglement known as the symmetry resolved entanglement entropy. In this paper we give an exact expression for the two-point function of a composite twist field that arises in the Ising field theory. In doing so we extend the techniques originally developed for the standard branch point twist field in free theories as well as an existing computation due to Horv\'ath and Calabrese of the same two-point function which focused on the leading large-distance contribution. We study the ground state two-point function of the composite twist field $\mathcal{T}_\mu$ and its conjugate $\mathcal{T}_\mu^\dagger$. At criticality, this field can be defined as the leading field in the operator product expansion of $\mathcal{T}$ and the disorder field $\mu$. We find a general formula for $\log \langle \mathcal{T}_\mu(0) \mathcal{T}^\dagger_\mu(r)\rangle$ and for (the derivative of) its analytic continuation to positive real replica numbers greater than 1. We check our formula for consistency by showing that at short distances it exactly reproduces the expected conformal dimension, Comment: 25 pages and 3 figures

In this study, we develop a steady state and time-dependent exciton diffusion model including singlet and triplet excitons coupled with a modified Poisson and drift-diffusion solver to explain the mechanism of hyper triplet-triplet fusion (TTF) organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Using this modified simulator, we demonstrate various characteristics of OLEDs, including the J-V curve, internal quantum efficiency, transient spectrum, and electric profile. This solver can also be used to explain the mechanism of hyper-TTF-OLEDs and analyze the loss from different exciton mechanisms. Furthermore, we perform additional optimization of hyper-TTF-OLEDs that increases the internal quantum efficiency by approximately 33% (from 29% to 40%).

For a 2-D coupled PDE-ODE bulk-cell model, we investigate symmetry-breaking bifurcations that can emerge when two bulk diffusing species are coupled to two-component nonlinear intracellular reactions that are restricted to occur only within a disjoint collection of small circular compartments, or "cells", of a common small radius that are confined in a bounded 2-D domain. Outside of the union of these cells, the two bulk species with comparable diffusivities and bulk degradation rates diffuse and globally couple the spatially segregated intracellular reactions through Robin boundary conditions across the cell boundaries, which depend on certain membrane reaction rates. In the singular limit of a small common cell radius, we construct steady-state solutions for the bulk-cell model and formulate a nonlinear matrix eigenvalue problem that determines the linear stability properties of the steady-states. For a certain spatial arrangement of cells for which the steady-state and linear stability analysis become highly tractable, we construct a symmetric steady-state solution where the steady-states of the intracellular species are the same for each cell. As regulated by the ratio of the membrane reaction rates on the cell boundaries, we show for various specific prototypical intracellular reactions, and for a specific two-cell arrangement, that our 2-D coupled PDE-ODE model admits symmetry-breaking bifurcations from this symmetric steady-state, leading to linearly stable asymmetric patterns, even when the bulk diffusing species have comparable or possibly equal diffusivities. Overall, our analysis shows that symmetry-breaking bifurcations can occur without the large diffusivity ratio requirement for the bulk diffusing species as is well-known from a Turing stability analysis applied to a spatially uniform steady-state for typical two-component activator-inhibitor systems., Comment: 35 pages, 18 figures, to be published in Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics

One widely-existed state --``harmony with diversity" in which individuals freely express various viewpoints to sustain integration of social diversity, but at the same time shared values ensure social coherence, can be considered as the foundation of social diversity and coherence, however, which has never attracted research attention. Its formation mechanism still remains unclear. To address this issue, this study proposes an attraction-repulsion model based on the general simple assumption that individuals tend to either reach an agreement with shared opinions or to amplify difference from others with distant opinions. It allows us to take account into the three core parameters: interaction strength, individuals' susceptibility and tolerance to others' opinions. We are concerned with the effect of not only time-varying topology but also fixed interactions imposed by static social network, where the tasks of heterogeneous individuals' attributes are also performed. Remarkably, the simple model rules successfully generate the three above phases except for fragmentation, along with three different transitions and the triple points. We find that sufficient susceptibility, intermediate interaction strength and high tolerance can benefit a balance between repulsive and attractive forces, and thus the emergence of "harmony with diversity". However, fixed interactions can introduce cluster-level self-reinforced mechanism which can unexpectedly promote polarization. Heterogeneous susceptibility or tolerance turns out to be an inhibiting factor, which should be avoided. A method to identify the phase boundaries through computing the maximum susceptibility of entropy and stand deviation of opinions, confirmed by numerical simulations, allows us to build phase diagrams and to locate where the triple points are., Comment: 21 pages, 19 figures

Wildfires can be devastating, causing significant damage to property, ecosystem disruption, and loss of life. Forecasting the evolution of wildfire boundaries is essential to real-time wildfire management. To this end, substantial attention in the wildifre literature has focused on the level set method, which effectively represents complicated boundaries and their change over time. Nevertheless, most of these approaches rely on a heavily-parameterized formulas for spread and fail to account for the uncertainty in the forecast. The rapid evolution of large wildfires and inhomogeneous environmental conditions across the domain of interest (e.g., varying land cover, fire-induced winds) give rise to a need for a model that enables efficient data-driven learning of fire spread and allows uncertainty quantification. Here, we present a novel hybrid model that nests an echo state network to learn nonlinear spatio-temporal evolving velocities (speed in the normal direction) within a physically-based level set model framework. This model is computationally efficient and includes calibrated uncertainty quantification. We show the forecasting performance of our model with simulations and two real data sets - the Haybress and Thomas megafires that started in California (USA) in 2017.

This paper proposes a new test for the comparison of conditional quantile curves when the outcome of interest, typically a duration, is subject to right censoring. The test can be applied both in the case of two independent samples and for paired data, and can be used for the comparison of quantiles at a fixed quantile level, a finite set of levels or a range of quantile levels. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test statistics is obtained both under the null hypothesis and under local alternatives. We describe a bootstrap procedure in order to approximate the critical values, and present the results of a simulation study, in which the performance of the tests for small and moderate sample sizes is studied and compared with the behavior of alternative tests. Finally, we apply the proposed tests on a data set concerning diabetic retinopathy.

We review the construction of a quantum version of the exponential statistical manifold over the set of all faithful normal positive functionals on a von Neumann algebra. The construction is based on the relative entropy approach to state perturbation. We construct a quantum version of the exponential Orlicz space and discuss the properties of this space and its dual with respect to Kosaki $L_p$-spaces. We show that the constructed manifold admits a canonical divergence satisfying a Pythagorean relation. The one dimensional (1D) spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising model, a prototype quantum many-body system, has been intensively studied for many years. In this review, after a short introduction on some basic concepts of group theory for the octahedral group, a detailed pedagogical framework is laid down to derive the low-energy effective Hamiltonian for the Co-based materials. The 1D spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising model is obtained when applying the analysis to quasi-1D antiferromagnetic materials $\rm BaCo_2V_2O_8$ and $\rm SrCo_2V_2O_8$. After the preparation, we review the theoretical progresses of a variety of novel magnetic excitations and emergent physics in the 1D spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising model, and further summarize their recent experimental realizations., Comment: 23 pages, 17 figures

The Whitham modulation equations for the defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation in two, three and higher spatial dimensions are derived using a two-phase ansatz for the periodic traveling wave solutions and by period-averaging the conservation laws of the NLS equation. The resulting Whitham modulation equations are written in vector form, which allows one to show that they preserve the rotational invariance of the NLS equation, as well as the invariance with respect to scaling and Galilean transformations, and to immediately generalize the calculations from two spatial dimensions to three. The transformation to Riemann-type variables is described in detail; the harmonic and soliton limits of the Whitham modulation equations are explicitly written down; and the reduction of the Whitham equations to those for the radial NLS equation is explicitly carried out. Finally, the extension of the theory to higher spatial dimensions is briefly outlined. Entity resolution (record linkage or deduplication) is the process of identifying and linking duplicate records in databases. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian graphical approach for entity resolution that links records to latent entities, where the prior representation on the linkage structure is exchangeable. First, we adopt a flexible and tractable set of priors for the linkage structure, which corresponds to a special class of random partition models. Second, we propose a more realistic distortion model for categorical/discrete record attributes, which corrects a logical inconsistency with the standard hit-miss model. Third, we incorporate hyperpriors to improve flexibility. Fourth, we employ a partially collapsed Gibbs sampler for inferential speedups. Using a selection of private and nonprivate data sets, we investigate the impact of our modeling contributions and compare our model with two alternative Bayesian models. In addition, we conduct a simulation study for household survey data, where we vary distortion, duplication rates and data set size. We find that our model performs more consistently than the alternatives across a variety of scenarios and typically achieves the highest entity resolution accuracy (F1 score). Asymptotic expansions are presented for the moments of bound states in one-dimensional anharmonic potentials. The results are derived by using the stable aggregate of flexible element (SAFE) method and include only the first non-zero wave-related correction to the familiar semi-classical approximation. Application to a couple of widely studied potentials that do not permit closed-form solutions is used to demonstrate surprising accuracy even in cases that are far from any asymptotic limit. We explore the absence of alternate terms in the asymptotic expansions as a way to explain the accuracy of the end results. Those results are expressed as definite integrals with integrands involving the parameter used in the SAFE method to control the extent of the associated elemental field contributions. Importantly, the integrals themselves are shown to be precisely independent of that parameter. Further, although the derivation proceeds by way of an asymptotic expansion for the wavefield that involves the associated classical motion, those entities do not appear in the end results which are expressed in terms of just the potential function and its first four derivatives.

A novel methodology is proposed for clustering multivariate time series data using energy distance defined in Sz\'ekely and Rizzo (2013). Specifically, a dissimilarity matrix is formed using the energy distance statistic to measure separation between the finite dimensional distributions for the component time series. Once the pairwise dissimilarity matrix is calculated, a hierarchical clustering method is then applied to obtain the dendrogram. This procedure is completely nonparametric as the dissimilarities between stationary distributions are directly calculated without making any model assumptions. In order to justify this procedure, asymptotic properties of the energy distance estimates are derived for general stationary and ergodic time series. The method is illustrated in a simulation study for various component time series that are either linear or nonlinear. This paper investigates exact solutions of cosmological interest in fractional cosmology. Given $\mu$, the order of Caputo's fractional derivative, and $w$, the matter equation of state, we present specific exact power-law solutions. We discuss the exact general solution of the Riccati Equation, where the solution for the scale factor is a combination of power laws. Using cosmological data, we estimate the free parameters. An analysis of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) data and the observational Hubble parameter data (OHD), also known as cosmic chronometers, and a joint analysis with data from SNe Ia + OHD leads to best-fit values for the free parameters calculated at $1\sigma$, $2\sigma$ and $3\sigma$ confidence levels (CLs). On the other hand, these best-fit values are used to calculate the age of the Universe, the current deceleration parameter (both at $3\sigma$ CL) and the current matter density parameter at $1\sigma$ CL. Finding a Universe roughly twice as old as the one of $\Lambda$CDM is a distinction of fractional cosmology. Focusing our analysis on these results, we can conclude that the region in which $\mu>2$ is not ruled out by observations. This parameter region is relevant because fractional cosmology gives a power-law solution without matter, which is accelerated for $\mu>2$. An elucidation of the current state of art in quasi-Hermitian quantum theory (QHQT) as inspired by the recent paper by Alase et al (J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 55 (2022) 244003, paper [1]) is offered. We point out that the author's main discovery (viz., that the QHQT does not extend the standard quantum theory) is not new. In a related comment on the author's method of proof performed in ``the framework of general probabilistic theories'' (GPT) we add that also in this context a few other, mathematically consistent GPT-like theories are already available in the literature (pars pro toto we mention the results using the so called effect algebras). Text provides a compelling example of unstructured data that can be used to motivate and explore classification problems. Challenges arise regarding the representation of features of text and student linkage between text representations as character strings and identification of features that embed connections with underlying phenomena. In order to observe how students reason with text data in scenarios designed to elicit certain aspects of the domain, we employed a task-based interview method using a structured protocol with six pairs of undergraduate students. Our goal was to shed light on students' understanding of text as data using a motivating task to classify headlines as "clickbait" or "news". Three types of features (function, content, and form) surfaced, the majority from the first scenario. Our analysis of the interviews indicates that this sequence of activities engaged the participants in thinking at both the human-perception level and the computer-extraction level and conceptualizing connections between them.

Isotropic covariance structures can be unreasonable for phenomena in three-dimensional spaces such as the ocean. In the ocean, the variability of the response may vary with depth, and ocean currents may lead to spatially varying anisotropy. We construct a class of non-stationary anisotropic Gaussian random fields (GRFs) in three dimensions through stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) where computations are done using Gaussian Markov random field approximations. The approach is proven in a simulation study where the amount of data required to estimate these models is explored. Then, the method is applied to construct a GRF prior on an ocean mass outside Trondheim, Norway, based on simulations from the complex numerical ocean model SINMOD. This GRF prior is compared to a stationary anisotropic GRF using in-situ measurements collected with an autonomous underwater vehicle where our approach outperforms the stationary anisotropic GRF for real-time prediction of unobserved locations.

In this work we present a rather general approach to approximate the solutions of nonlocal conservation laws. In a first step, we approximate the nonlocal term with an appropriate quadrature rule applied to the spatial discretization. Then, we apply a numerical flux function on the reduced problem. We present explicit conditions which such a numerical flux function needs to fulfill. These conditions guarantee the convergence to the weak entropy solution of the considered model class. Numerical examples validate our theoretical results and demonstrate that the approach can be applied to other nonlocal problems.

In the last two decades, magnetic, thermodynamic properties and bipartite thermal entanglement in diamond spin clusters and chains have been studied. Such spin structures are presented in various compounds. The ions of $Cu^{2+}$ in the natural mineral azurite are arranged in a diamond spin chain. There are no studies of the entanglement behaviour during the quantum evolution of such systems. Herein, we consider the evolution of entanglement in the diamond spin-1/2 cluster. This cluster consists of two central spins described by the anisotropic Heisenberg model, which interact with two side spins via Ising interaction. The influence of the interaction coupling with side spins on the entanglement of central spins is investigated. It is shown that choosing the value of this coupling allows us to control the behaviour of entanglement between central spins. As a result, we find conditions for achieving the maximal values of entanglement. In addition, the entanglement behaviour between the side spins, central and side spins, and between a certain spin and the rest of the system is studied. This paper studies a novel spatial auto-correlation model of voter uncertainty across districts. We use the Moran $I$ index to measure the auto-correlation of Shannon, relative Shannon, Tsallis and relative Tsallis entropies of regional electoral outcomes with respect to geographic adjacency, proximity and sectarian adjacency. Using data from the Lebanese parliamentary elections, we find strong geographic and gravitational adjacency correlations. More importantly, there is a notably strong correlation in sectarian adjacency in both $2018$ and $2022$ elections, with a very high level of confidence. This result asserts the dominance of the sectarian factor in Lebanese politics. In this work, we investigate the relation between the concept of ``information rate'', an information geometric method for measuring the speed of the time evolution of the statistical states of a stochastic process, and stochastic thermodynamics quantities like entropy rate and entropy production. Then, we propose the application of entropy rate and entropy production to different practical applications such as abrupt event detection, correlation analysis, and control engineering. Specifically, by utilising the Fokker-Planck equation of multi-variable linear stochastic processes described by Langevin equations, we calculate the exact value for information rate, entropy rate, and entropy production and derive various inequalities among them. Inspired by classical correlation coefficients and control techniques, we create entropic-informed correlation coefficients as abrupt event detection methods and information geometric cost functions as optimal thermodynamic control policies, respectively. We systematically study pairwise counter-monotonicity, an extremal notion of negative dependence. A stochastic representation and an invariance property are established for this dependence structure. We show that pairwise counter-monotonicity implies negative association, and it is equivalent to joint mix dependence if both are possible for the same marginal distributions. We find an intimate connection between pairwise counter-monotonicity and risk sharing problems for quantile agents. This result highlights the importance of this extremal negative dependence structure in optimal allocations for agents who are not risk averse in the classic sense.

Comprehensive studies are made on the six-state clock universality of two models using several approaches. We apply the machine-learning technique of phase classification to the antiferromagnetic (AF) three-state Potts model on the square lattice with ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) coupling and the triangular AF Ising model with anisotropic NNN coupling to study two Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transitions. We also use the Monte Carlo simulation paying attention to the ratio of correlation functions of different distances for these two models. The obtained results are compared with those of the previous studies using the level-spectroscopy method. Tensor regression methods have been widely used to predict a scalar response from covariates in the form of a multiway array. In many applications, the regions of tensor covariates used for prediction are often spatially connected with unknown shapes and discontinuous jumps on the boundaries. Moreover, the relationship between the response and the tensor covariates can be nonlinear. In this article, we develop a nonlinear Bayesian tensor additive regression model to accommodate such spatial structure. A functional fused elastic net prior is proposed over the additive component functions to comprehensively model the nonlinearity and spatial smoothness, detect the discontinuous jumps, and simultaneously identify the active regions. The great flexibility and interpretability of the proposed method against the alternatives are demonstrated by a simulation study and an analysis on facial feature data.

Public Procurement refers to governments’ purchasing activities of goods, services, and construction of public works. In the European Union (EU), it is an essential sector, corresponding to 15% of the GDP. EU public procurement generates large amounts of data, because award notices related to contracts exceeding a predefined threshold must be published on the TED (EU’s official journal). Under the framework of the DeCoMaP project, which aims at leveraging such data in order to predict fraud in public procurement, we constitute the FOPPA (French Open Public Procurement Award notices) database. It contains the description of 1,380,965 lots obtained from the TED, covering the 2010–2020 period for France. We detect a number of substantial issues in these data, and propose a set of automated and semi-automated methods to solve them and produce a usable database. It can be leveraged to study public procurement in an academic setting, but also to facilitate the monitoring of public policies, and to improve the quality of the data offered to buyers and suppliers.

The mechanical behavior of porous materials depends strongly on porosity and pore geometry, but also on morphological parameters characterizing the spatial arrangement of pores. Here we use bond-based peridynamics to study effects of disorder on the deformation and failure behavior of brittle porous solids both in the quasi-static limit and in case of dynamic loading scenarios. We show that structural disorder, which has a strong influence on stiffness, strength and toughness in the quasi-static limit, becomes less relevant under dynamic loading conditions., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures

We consider the problem of computing a Gaussian approximation to the posterior distribution of a parameter given a large number N of observations and a Gaussian prior, when the dimension of the parameter d is also large. To address this problem we build on a recently introduced recursive algorithm for variational Gaussian approximation of the posterior, called recursive variational Gaussian approximation (RVGA), which is a single pass algorithm, free of parameter tuning. In this paper, we consider the case where the parameter dimension d is high, and we propose a novel version of RVGA that scales linearly in the dimension d (as well as in the number of observations N), and which only requires linear storage capacity in d. This is afforded by the use of a novel recursive expectation maximization (EM) algorithm applied for factor analysis introduced herein, to approximate at each step the covariance matrix of the Gaussian distribution conveying the uncertainty in the parameter. Laughlin states have recently been constructed on fractal lattices and have been shown to be topological in such systems. Some of their properties are, however, quite different from the two-dimensional case. On the Sierpinski triangle, for instance, the entanglement entropy shows oscillations as a function of particle number and does not obey the area law despite being topologically ordered, and the particle density is non-uniform in the bulk. Here, we investigate these deviant properties in greater detail on the Sierpinski triangle, and we also study the properties on the Sierpinski carpet and the T-fractal. We find that the density variations across the fractal are present for all the considered fractal lattices and for most choices of the number of particles. The size of anyons inserted into the lattice Laughlin state also varies with position on the fractal lattice. We observe that quasiholes and quasiparticles have similar sizes and that the size of the anyons typically increases with decreasing Hausdorff dimension. As opposed to periodic lattices in two dimensions, the Sierpinski triangle and carpet have inner edges. We construct trial states for both inner and outer edge states. We find that oscillations of the entropy as a function of particle number are present for the T-fractal, but not for the Sierpinski carpet. The most frequently used indicators for the productivity and impact of scientists are the total number of publication ($N_{pub}$), total number of citations ($N_{cit}$) and the Hirsch (h) index. Since the seminal paper of Hirsch, in 2005, it is largely debated whether the h index can be considered as an indicator independent of $N_{pub}$ and $N_{cit}$. Exploiting the Paretian form for the distribution of citations for the papers authored by a researcher, here we discuss scaling relations between h, $N_{pub}$ and $N_{cit}$. The analysis incorporates the Gini index as an inequality measure of citation distributions and a recently proposed inequality kernel, gintropy (resembling to the entropy kernel). We find a new upper bound for the h value as a function of the total number of citations, confimed on massive data collected from Google Scholar. Our analyses reveals also that the individualized Gini index calculated for the citations received by the publications of an author peaks around 0.8, a value much higher than the one characteristic for the usual socio-economic inequalities., Comment: 12 pages, 6 Figures, Latex

The analytic integration and simplification of multi-loop Feynman integrals to special functions and constants plays an important role to perform higher order perturbative calculations in the Standard Model of elementary particles. In this survey article the most recent and relevant computer algebra and special function algorithms are presented that are currently used or that may play an important role to perform such challenging precision calculations in the future. They are discussed in the context of analytic zero, single and double scale calculations in the Quantum Field Theories of the Standard Model and effective field theories, also with classical applications. Motivated by Gutzwiller's semiclassical quantization, in which unstable periodic orbits of low-dimensional deterministic dynamics serve as a WKB `skeleton' for chaotic quantum mechanics, we construct the corresponding deterministic skeleton for infinite-dimensional lattice-discretized scalar field theories. In the field-theoretical formulation, there is no evolution in time, and there is no `Lyapunov horizon'; there is only an enumeration of lattice states that contribute to the theory's partition sum, each a global spatiotemporal solution of system's deterministic Euler-Lagrange equations. The reformulation aligns `chaos theory' with the standard solid state, field theory, and statistical mechanics. In a spatiotemporal, crystallographer formulation, the time-periodic orbits of dynamical systems theory are replaced by periodic $d$-dimensional Bravais cell tilings of spacetime, each weighted by the inverse of its instability, its Hill determinant. Hyperbolic shadowing of large cells by smaller ones ensures that the predictions of the theory are dominated by the smallest Bravais cells. The form of the partition function of a given field theory is determined by the group of its spatiotemporal symmetries, that is, by the space group of its lattice discretization, best studied on its reciprocal lattice. Already 1-dimensional lattice discretization is of sufficient interest to be the focus of this paper.
