Integrated photonic circuits offer a promising route for studying coherent cooperative effects of a controlled collection of quantum emitters. However, spectral inhomogeneities, decoherence and material incompatibilities in the solid state make this a nontrivial task. Here, we demonstrate efficient coupling of a pair of organic molecules embedded in a plastic film to a TiO$_2$ microdisc resonator on a glass chip. Moreover, we tune the resonance frequencies of the molecules with respect to that of the microresonator by employing nanofabricated electrodes. For two molecules separated by a distance of about 8$\,\mu$m and an optical phase difference of about $\pi/2$, we report on a large collective extinction of the incident light in the forward direction and the destructive interference of its scattering in the backward direction. Our work sets the ground for the coherent coupling of several molecules via a common mode and the realization of polymer-based hybrid quantum photonic circuits.

We obtain a lower estimate for the Hilbert series of Jacobi algebras and their completions by providing analogue of the Golog-Shafarevich-Vinberg theorem for potential case. We especially treat non-homogeneous situation. This estimate allows to answer number of questions arising in the work of Wemyss-Donovan-Brown on noncommutative singularities and deformation theory. We consider Sklyanin algebras $S$ with 3 generators, which are quadratic algebras over a field $\K$ with $3$ generators $x,y,z$ given by $3$ relations $pxy+qyx+rzz=0$, $pyz+qzy+rxx=0$ and $pzx+qxz+ryy=0$, where $p,q,r\in\K$. This class of algebras has enjoyed much attention. In particular, using tools from algebraic geometry Artin, Tate and Van Den Berg \cite{ATV2} showed that if at least two of the parameters $p$, $q$ and $r$ are non-zero and at least two of three numbers $p^3$, $q^3$ and $r^3$ are distinct, then $S$ is Artin--Schelter regular. More specifically, $S$ is Koszul and has the same Hilbert series as the algebra of commutative polynomials in 3 indeterminates. It has became commonly accepted that it is impossible to achieve the same objective by purely algebraic and combinatorial means like the Gr\"obner basis technique. The authors have previously dispelled this belief. However our previous proof was no less complicated than the one based on algebraic geometry. It used a construcion of a Gr\"obner basis in a suitable one-sided module over $S$ and had quite a number of cases to consider. In this paper we exhibit a linear substitution after which it becomes possible to determine the leading monomials of a reduced Gr\"obner basis for the ideal of relations of $S$ itself (without passing to a module). We also find out explicitly (in terms of parameters) which Sklyanin algebras are isomorphic. We present efficient coupling of single organic molecules to a gallium phosphide subwavelength waveguide (nanoguide). By examining and correlating the temporal dynamics of various single-molecule resonances at different locations along the nanoguide, we reveal light-induced fluctuations of their Stark shifts. Our observations are consistent with the predictions of a simple model based on the optical activation of a small number of charges in the GaP nanostructure., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

The use of molecules in quantum optical applications has been hampered by incoherent internal vibrations and other phononic interactions with their environment. Here we show that an organic molecule placed into an optical microcavity behaves as a coherent two-level quantum system. This allows the observation of 99% extinction of a laser beam by a single molecule, saturation with less than 0.5 photons and non-classical generation of few-photons super-bunched light. Furthermore, we demonstrate efficient interaction of the molecule–microcavity system with single photons generated by a second molecule in a distant laboratory. Our achievements represent an important step towards linear and nonlinear quantum photonic circuits based on organic platforms. A molecule placed in an optical microcavity behaves as a model two-level quantum system, as demonstrated via laser extinction and interaction with single photons.

Optomechanical systems provide a means for studying and controlling quantum effects in the motion of macroscopic objects. To date, quantum optomechanical effects have been studied in objects made from solids and gases. Here we describe measurements of quantum behavior in the vibrations of a liquid body. Specifically, we monitor the fluctuations of an individual acoustic standing wave in superfluid liquid helium, and find that it displays the characteristic signatures of zero-point motion and measurement back-action. This opens the possibility of exploiting the properties of liquids in general (and superfluid helium in particular) to access qualitatively new regimes of quantum optomechanics., Comment: 53 pages, 15 figures, 1 table (including supplementary information)

Cavity optomechanics offers powerful methods for controlling optical fields and mechanical motion. A number of proposals have predicted that this control can be extended considerably in devices where multiple cavity modes couple to each other via the motion of a single mechanical oscillator. Here we study the dynamical properties of such a multimode optomechanical device, in which the coupling between cavity modes results from mechanically-induced avoided crossings in the cavity's spectrum. Near the avoided crossings we find that the optical spring shows distinct features that arise from the interaction between cavity modes. Precisely at an avoided crossing, we show that the particular form of the optical spring provides a classical analog of a quantum-nondemolition measurement of the intracavity photon number. The mechanical oscillator's Brownian motion, an important source of noise in these measurements, is minimized by operating the device at cryogenic temperature (500 mK)., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures, 14 pages of supplementary info

According to Kim, Peris and Song, a continuous linear operator $T$ on a complex Banach space $X$ is called {\it numerically hypercyclic} if the numerical orbit $\{f(T^nx):n\in\N\}$ is dense in $\C$ for some $x\in X$ and $f\in X^*$ satisfying $\|x\|=\|f\|=f(x)=1$. They have characterized numerically hypercyclic weighted shifts and provided an example of a numerically hypercyclic operator on $\C^2$. We answer two questions of Kim, Peris and Song. Namely, we construct a numerically hypercyclic operator, whose square is not numerically hypercyclic as well as an operator which is not numerically hypercyclic but has two numerical orbits whose union is dense in $\C$. We characterize numerically hypercyclic operators on $\C^2$ as well as the operators similar to a numerically hypercyclic one and those operators whose conjugacy class consists entirely of numerically hypercyclic operators. We describe in spectral terms the operator norm closure of the set of numerically hypercyclic operators on a reflexive Banach space. We say that a (countably dimensional) topological vector space $X$ is orbital if there is $T\in L(X)$ and a vector $x\in X$ such that $X$ is the linear span of the orbit ${T^nx:n=0,1,...}$. We say that $X$ is strongly orbital if, additionally, $x$ can be chosen to be a hypercyclic vector for $T$. Of course, $X$ can be orbital only if the algebraic dimension of $X$ is finite or infinite countable. We characterize orbital and strongly orbital metrizable locally convex spaces. We also show that every countably dimensional metrizable locally convex space $X$ does not have the invariant subset property. That is, there is $T\in L(X)$ such that every non-zero $x\in X$ is a hypercyclic vector for $T$. Finally, assuming the Continuum Hypothesis, we construct a complete strongly orbital locally convex space. As a byproduct of our constructions, we determine the number of isomorphism classes in the set of dense countably dimensional subspaces of any given separable infinite dimensional Fr\'echet space $X$. It is shown that if $11$, the operator $I+T$ attains its norm. A reflexive Banach space $X$ and a bounded rank one operator $T$ on $X$ are constructed such that $\|I+T\|>1$ and $I+T$ does not attain its norm.

A complex number λ is called an extended eigenvalue of a bounded linear operator T on a Banach space B if there exists a non-zero bounded linear operator X acting on B such that X T = λ T X . We show that there are compact quasinilpotent operators on a separable Hilbert space, for which the set of extended eigenvalues is the one-point set { 1 } .

We give a short proof of the existence of disjoint hypercyclic tuples of operators of any given length on any separable infinite dimensional Frechet space. A similar argument provides disjoint dual hypercyclic tuples of operators of any length on any infinite dimensional Banach space with separable dual.

We prove a new criterion of weak hypercyclicity of a bounded linear operator on a Banach space. Applying this criterion, we solve few open questions. Namely, we show that if $G$ is a region of $\C$ bounded by a smooth Jordan curve $\Gamma$ such that $G$ does not meet the unit ball but $\Gamma$ intersects the unit circle in a non-trivial arc, then $M^*$ is a weakly hypercyclic operator on $H^2(G)$, where $M$ is the multiplication by the argument operator $Mf(z)=zf(z)$. We also prove that if $g$ is a non-constant function from the Hardy space $H^\infty(\D)$ on the unit disk $\D$ such that $g(\D)\cap\D=\varnothing$ and the set $\{z\in\C:|z|=1,\ |g(z)|=1\}$ is a subset of the unit circle $\T$ of positive Lebesgue measure, then the coanalytic Toeplitz operator $T^*_g$ on the Hardy space $H^2(\D)$ is weakly hypercyclic. On the contrary, if $g(\D)\cap\D=\varnothing$, $|g|>1$ almost everywhere on $\T$ and $\log(|g|-1)\in L^1(\T)$, then $T^*_g$ is not 1-weakly hypercyclic and hence is not weakly hypercyclic (a bounded linear operator $T$ on a complex Banach space $X$ is called $n$-weakly hypercyclic if there is $x\in X$ such that for every surjective continuous linear operator $S:X\to \C^n$, the set $\{S(T^mx):m\in\N\}$ is dense in $\C^n$). The last result is based upon lower estimates of the norms of the members of orbits of a coanalytic Toeplitz operator. Finally, we show that there is a 1-weakly hypercyclic operator on a Hilbert space, whose square is non-cyclic and prove that a Banach space operator is weakly hypercyclic if and only if it is $n$-weakly hypercyclic for every $n\in\N$.

It is shown that for a bounded weighted bilateral shift $T$ acting on $\ell_p(\Z)$ for $1\leq p\leq 2$ supercyclicity of $T$, weak supercyclicity of $T$, cyclicity of $T\oplus T$ and cyclicity of $T^2$ are equivalent. A new sufficient condition for cyclicity of a weighted bilateral shift is proved, which implies, in particular, that any compact weighted bilateral shift is cyclic.

We prove that a continuous linear operator $T$ on a topological vector space $X$ with weak topology is mixing if and only if the dual operator $T'$ has no finite dimensional invariant subspaces. This result implies the characterization of hypercyclic operators on the space $\omega$ due to Herzog and Lemmert and implies the result of Bayart and Matheron, who proved that for any hypercyclic operator $T$ on $\omega$, $T\oplus T$ is also hypercyclic.

We treat the question of existence of common hypercyclic vectors for families of continuous linear operators. It is shown that for any continuous linear operator T on a complex Frechet space X and a set Λ ⊆ R + × C which is not of zero three-dimensional Lebesgue measure, the family { a T + b I : ( a , b ) ∈ Λ } has no common hypercyclic vectors. This allows to answer negatively questions raised by Godefroy and Shapiro and by Aron. We also prove a sufficient condition for a family of scalar multiples of a given operator on a complex Frechet space to have a common hypercyclic vector. It allows to show that if D = { z ∈ C : | z | 1 } and φ ∈ H ∞ ( D ) is non-constant, then the family { z M φ ⋆ : b − 1 | z | a − 1 } has a common hypercyclic vector, where M φ : H 2 ( D ) → H 2 ( D ) , M φ f = φ f , a = inf { | φ ( z ) | : z ∈ D } and b = sup { | φ ( z ) | : | z | ∈ D } , providing an affirmative answer to a question by Bayart and Grivaux. Finally, extending a result of Costakis and Sambarino, we prove that the family { a T b : a , b ∈ C ∖ { 0 } } has a common hypercyclic vector, where T b f ( z ) = f ( z − b ) acts on the Frechet space H ( C ) of entire functions on one complex variable.

It is proved that for any separable infinite dimensional Banach space $X$, there is a bounded linear operator $T$ on $X$ such that $T$ satisfies the Kitai Criterion. The proof is based on quasisimilarity argument and on showing that $I+T$ satisfies the Kitai Criterion for certain backward weighted shifts $T$.

A quadratic semigroup algebra is an algebra over a field given by the generators $x_1,...,x_n$ and a finite set of quadratic relations each of which either has the shape $x_jx_k=0$ or the shape $x_jx_k=x_lx_m$. We prove that a quadratic semigroup algebra given by $n$ generators and $d\leq \frac{n^2+n}{4}$ relations is always infinite dimensional. This strengthens the Golod--Shafarevich estimate for the above class of algebras. Our main result however is that for every $n$, there is a finite dimensional quadratic semigroup algebra with $n$ generators and $\delta_n$ relations, where $\delta_n$ is the first integer greater than $\frac{n^2+n}{4}$. The distribution of motifs in random hierarchical networks defined by nonsymmetric random block--hierarchical adjacency matrices, is constructed for the first time. According to the classification of U. Alon et al of network superfamilies by their motifs distributions, our artificial directed random hierarchical networks falls into the superfamily of natural networks to which the class of neuron networks belongs. Bonet, Frerick, Peris and Wengenroth constructed a hypercyclic operator on the locally convex direct sum of countably many copies of the Banach space $\ell_1$. We extend this result. In particular, we show that there is a hypercyclic operator on the locally convex direct sum of a sequence $\{X_n\}_{n\in\N}$ of Fr\'echet spaces if and only if each $X_n$ is separable and there are infinitely many $n\in\N$ for which $X_n$ is infinite dimensional.
