Classical and quantum walks on some finite paths are introduced. It is shown that these walks have explicit solutions given in terms of exceptional Krawtchouk polynomials and their properties are explored. The biorthogonal rational functions of the ${_3}F_2$ type on the uniform grid provide the simplest example of rational functions with bispectrality properties that are similar to those of classical orthogonal polynomials. These properties are described by three difference operators $X,Y,Z$ which are tridiagonal with respect to three distinct bases of the relevant finite-dimensional space. We define bi-infinite versions of four well-studied discrete integrable models, namely the ultra-discrete KdV equation, the discrete KdV equation, the ultra-discrete Toda equation, and the discrete Toda equation. For each equation, we show that there exists a unique solution to the initial value problem when the given data lies within a certain class, which includes the support of many shift ergodic measures. Our unified approach, which is also applicable to other integrable systems defined locally via lattice maps, involves the introduction of a path encoding (that is, a certain antiderivative) of the model configuration, for which we are able to describe the dynamics more generally than in previous work on finite size systems, periodic systems and semi-infinite systems. In particular, in each case we show that the behaviour of the system is characterized by a generalization of the classical 'Pitman's transformation' of reflection in the past maximum, which is well-known to probabilists. The picture presented here also provides a means to identify a natural 'carrier process' for configurations within the given class, and is convenient for checking that the systems we discuss are all-time reversible. Finally, we investigate links between the different systems, such as showing that bi-infinite all-time solutions for the ultra-discrete KdV (resp. Toda) equation may appear as ultra-discretizations of corresponding solutions for the discrete KdV (resp. Toda) equation.

This paper introduces and studies the Heun-Racah and Heun-Bannai-Ito algebras abstractly and establishes the relation between these new algebraic structures and generalized Heun-type operators derived from the notion of algebraic Heun operators in the case of the Racah and Bannai-Ito algebras., Comment: 18 pages

The $q$-difference equation, the shift and the contiguity relations of the Askey-Wilson polynomials are cast in the framework of the three and four-dimensional degenerate Sklyanin algebras $\mathfrak{ska}_3$ and $\mathfrak{ska}_4$. It is shown that the $q$-para Racah polynomials corresponding to a non-conventional truncation of the Askey-Wilson polynomials form a basis for a finite-dimensional representation of $\mathfrak{ska}_4$. The first order Heun operators defined by a degree raising condition on polynomials are shown to form a five-dimensional vector space that encompasses $\mathfrak{ska}_4$. The most general quadratic expression in the five basis operators and such that it raises degrees by no more than one is identified with the Heun-Askey-Wilson operator., Comment: 19 pages, 32 references

It is shown that the hopping of a single excitation on certain triangular spin lattices with non-uniform couplings and local magnetic fields can be described as the projections of quantum walks on graphs of the ordered Hamming scheme of depth 2. For some values of the parameters the models exhibit perfect state transfer between two summits of the lattice. Fractional revival is also observed in some instances. We construct a non-trivial type of 1-step exceptional Bannai-Ito polynomials which satisfy discrete orthogonality by using a generalized Darboux transformation. In this generalization, the Darboux transformed Bannai-Ito operator is directly obtained through an intertwining relation. Moreover, the seed solution, which consists of a gauge factor and a polynomial part, plays an important role in the construction of these 1-step exceptional Bannai-Ito polynomials. And we show that there are 8 classes of gauge factors. We also provide the eigenfunctions of the corresponding multiple-step exceptional Bannai-Ito operator which can be expressed as a 3 x 3 determinant., Comment: 30 pages

An infinite-dimensional representation of the double affine Hecke algebra of rank 1 and type $$(C_1^{\vee },C_1)$$ in which all generators are tridiagonal is presented. This representation naturally leads to two systems of polynomials that are orthogonal on the unit circle. These polynomials can be considered as circle analogs of the Askey–Wilson polynomials. The corresponding polynomials orthogonal on an interval are constructed and discussed.

Simple derivation is presented of the four families of infinitely many shape invariant Hamiltonians corresponding to the exceptional Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials. Darboux-Crum transformations are applied to connect the well-known shape invariant Hamiltonians of the radial oscillator and the Darboux-P\"oschl-Teller potential to the shape invariant potentials of Odake-Sasaki. Dutta and Roy derived the two lowest members of the exceptional Laguerre polynomials by this method.
