We review recent developments on nonrelativistic string theory. In flat spacetime, the theory is defined by a two-dimensional relativistic quantum field theory with nonrelativistic global symmetries acting on the worldsheet fields. This theory arises as a self-contained corner of relativistic string theory. It has a string spectrum with a Galilean dispersion relation, and a spacetime S-matrix with nonrelativistic symmetry. This string theory also gives a unitary and ultraviolet complete framework that connects different corners of string theory, including matrix string theory and noncommutative open strings. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the non-Lorentzian geometries and quantum field theories that arise from nonrelativistic string theory in background fields. In this review, we start with an introduction to the foundations of nonrelativistic string theory in flat spacetime. We then give an overview of recent progress, including the appropriate target-space geometry that nonrelativistic strings couple to. This is known as (torsional) string Newton-Cartan geometry, which is neither Lorentzian nor Riemannian. We also give a review of nonrelativistic open strings and effective field theories living on D-branes. In this work, we present a neural approach to reconstructing rooted tree graphs describing hierarchical interactions, using a novel representation we term the Lowest Common Ancestor Generations (LCAG) matrix. This compact formulation is equivalent to the adjacency matrix, but enables learning a tree's structure from its leaves alone without the prior assumptions required if using the adjacency matrix directly. Employing the LCAG therefore enables the first end-to-end trainable solution which learns the hierarchical structure of varying tree sizes directly, using only the terminal tree leaves to do so. In the case of high-energy particle physics, a particle decay forms a hierarchical tree structure of which only the final products can be observed experimentally, and the large combinatorial space of possible trees makes an analytic solution intractable. We demonstrate the use of the LCAG as a target in the task of predicting simulated particle physics decay structures using both a Transformer encoder and a Neural Relational Inference encoder Graph Neural Network. With this approach, we are able to correctly predict the LCAG purely from leaf features for a maximum tree-depth of $8$ in $92.5\%$ of cases for trees up to $6$ leaves (including) and $59.7\%$ for trees up to $10$ in our simulated dataset., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, accepted in Machine Learning: Science and Technology

We study real time classical matrix mechanics of a simplified $2\times 2$ matrix model inspired by the black hole evaporation problem. This is a step towards making a quantitative model of real time evaporation of a black hole, which is realized as a bound state of D0-branes in string theory. The model we study is the reduction of Yang Mills in $2+1$ dimension to $0+1$ dimensions, which has been corrected with an additional potential that can be interpreted as a zero point energy for fermions. Our goal is to understand the lifetime of such a classical bound state object in the classical regime. To do so, we pay particular attention to when D-particles separate to check that the "off diagonal modes" of the matrices become adiabatic and use that information to improve on existing models of evaporation. It turns out that the naive expectation value of the lifetime with the fermionic correction is infinite. This is a logarithmic divergence that arises from very large excursions in the separation between the branes near the threshold for classical evaporation. The adiabatic behavior lets us get some analytic control of the dynamics in this regime to get this estimate. This divergence is cutoff in the quantum theory due to quantization of the adiabatic parameter, resulting in a long lifetime of the bound state, with a parametric dependence of order $\log(1/\hbar)$., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures. v2: added references

We introduce the bosonic and fermionic ensembles of density matrices and study their entanglement. In the fermionic case, we show that random bipartite fermionic density matrices have non-positive partial transposition, hence they are typically entangled. The similar analysis in the bosonic case is more delicate, due to a large positive outlier eigenvalue. We compute the asymptotic ratio between the size of the environment and the size of the system Hilbert space for which random bipartite bosonic density matrices fail the PPT criterion, being thus entangled. Inspired by recent formul\ae\ of Dubrovin, Yang, and Zagier, we interpret the tau function enumerating stationary Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathbb{P}^1$ as an isomonodromic tau function associated with a difference equation. As a byproduct we obtain an analogue of the Kontsevich matrix model for this tau function. A connection with the Charlier ensemble is also considered., Comment: v3: new appendix B

A U-Net is trained to recover acoustic interference striations (AISs) from distorted ones. A random mode-coupling matrix model is introduced to generate a large number of training data quickly, which are used to train the U-Net. The performance of AIS recovery of the U-Net is tested in range-dependent waveguides with nonlinear internal waves (NLIWs). Although the random mode-coupling matrix model is not an accurate physical model, the test results show that the U-Net successfully recovers AISs under different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) and different amplitudes and widths of NLIWs for different shapes.

We report here an extension of a previous work in which we have shown that matrix models provide a tool to compute the intersection numbers of p-spin curves. We discuss further an extension to half-integer p, and in more details for p=1/2 and p=3/2. In those new cases one finds contributions from the Ramond sector, which were not present for positive integer p.The existence of Virasoro constraints, in particular a string equation, is considered also for half-integral spins. The canonical tensor model, which is a tensor model in the Hamilton formalism, can be straightforwardly quantized and has an exactly solved physical state. The state is expressed by a wave function with a generalized form of the Airy function. The simplest observable on the state can be expressed by a matrix model which contains non-pairwise index contractions. This matrix model has the same form as the one that appears when the replica trick is applied to the spherical $p$-spin model for spin glasses, but our case has different ranges of variables and parameters from the spin glass case. We analyze the matrix model analytically and numerically. We show some evidences for the presence of a continuous phase transition at the location required by a consistency condition of the canonical tensor model. We also show that there are dimensional transitions of configurations around the transition region. In a recent paper, Balthazar, Rodriguez and Yin found remarkable agreement between the one instanton contribution to the scattering amplitudes of two dimensional string theory and those in the matrix model to the first subleading order. The comparison was carried out numerically by analytically continuing the external energies to imaginary values, since for real energies the string theory result diverges. We use insights from string field theory to give finite expressions for the string theory amplitudes for real energies. We also show analytically that the imaginary parts of the string theory amplitudes computed this way reproduce the full matrix model results for general scattering amplitudes involving multiple closed strings., Comment: LaTeX, 14 pages

We sharpen the duality between open and closed topological string partition functions for topological gravity coupled to matter. The closed string partition function is a generalised Kontsevich matrix model in the large dimension limit. We integrate out off-diagonal degrees of freedom associated to one source eigenvalue, and find an open/closed topological string partition function, thus proving open/closed duality. We match the resulting open partition function to the generating function of intersection numbers on moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces with boundaries and boundary insertions. Moreover, we connect our work to the literature on a wave function of the KP integrable hierarchy and clarify the role of the extended Virasoro generators that include all time variables as well as the coupling to the open string observable., Comment: 24 pages

Balanced gain and loss leads to stationary dynamics in open systems. This occurs naturally in PT-symmetric systems, where the imaginary part of the potential describing gain and loss is perfectly antisymmetric. While this case seems intuitive, stationary dynamics are also possible in asymmetric open systems. Open multi-well quantum systems can possess completely or partly real spectra if their Hamiltonian is symmetrised or semi-symmetrised, respectively. In contrast to similar concepts, symmetrisation allows for the description of physical multi-well potentials with gain and loss. A simple matrix model for the description of two and three-mode systems is used as an example, for which analytical symmetrised solutions are derived. Chern-Simons (CS) theories with rank $N$ and level $k$ on Seifert manifold are discussed. The partition functions of such theories can be written as a function of modular transformation matrices summed over different integrable representations of affine Lie algebra $u(N)_k$ associated with boundary Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) model. Using properties of modular transform matrices we express the partition functions of these theories as a unitary matrix model. We show that, the eigenvalues of unitary matrices are discrete and proportional to hook lengths of the corresponding integrable Young diagram. As a result, in the large $N$ limit, the eigenvalue density develops an upper cap. We consider CS theory on $S^2\times S^1$ coupled with fundamental matters and express the partition functions in terms of modular transformation matrices. Solving this model at large $N$ we find the dominant integrable representations and show how large $N$ representations are related to each other by transposition of Young diagrams as a result of level rank duality. Next we consider $U(N)$ CS theory on $S^3$ and observed that in Seifert framing the dominant representation is no longer an integrable representation after a critical value of 't Hooft coupling. We show how q-Virasoro constraints can be derived for a large class of (q,t)-deformed eigenvalue matrix models by an elementary trick of inserting certain q-difference operators under the integral, in complete analogy with full-derivative insertions for beta-ensembles. From free-field point of view the models considered have zero momentum of the highest weight, which leads to an extra constraint T_{-1} Z = 0. We then show how to solve these q-Virasoro constraints recursively and comment on the possible applications for gauge theories, for instance calculation of (supersymmetric) Wilson loop averages in gauge theories on D^2 \cross S^1 and S^3., Comment: 31 page

This note aims to provide an entr\'ee to two developments in two-dimensional topological gravity -- that is, intersection theory on the moduli space of Riemann surfaces -- that have not yet become well-known among physicists. A little over a decade ago, Mirzakhani discovered \cite{M1,M2} an elegant new proof of the formulas that result from the relationship between topological gravity and matrix models of two-dimensional gravity. Here we will give a very partial introduction to that work, which hopefully will also serve as a modest tribute to the memory of a brilliant mathematical pioneer. More recently, Pandharipande, Solomon, and Tessler \cite{PST} (with further developments in \cite{Tes,BT,STa}) generalized intersection theory on moduli space to the case of Riemann surfaces with boundary, leading to generalizations of the familiar KdV and Virasoro formulas. Though the existence of such a generalization appears natural from the matrix model viewpoint -- it corresponds to adding vector degrees of freedom to the matrix model -- constructing this generalization is not straightforward. We consider the vacuum expectation values of 1/2-BPS circular Wilson loops in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory in the totally antisymmetric representation of the gauge group U(N) or SU(N). Localization and matrix model techniques provide exact, but rather formal, expressions for these expectation values. In this paper we show how to extract the leading and sub-leading behavior in a 1/N expansion with fixed 't Hooft coupling starting from these exact results. This is done by exploiting the relation between the generating function of antisymmetric Wilson loops and a finite-dimensional quantum system known as the truncated harmonic oscillator. We compute L\"uscher corrections to the effective string tension in the Pilch-Warner background, holographically dual to $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The same quantity can be calculated directly from field theory by solving the localization matrix model at large-$N$. We present a new model of quantum gravity as a theory of random geometries given explicitly in terms of a multitrace matrix model. This is a generalization of the usual discretized random surfaces of 2D quantum gravity which works away from two dimensions and captures a large class of spaces admiting a finite spectral triple. We define a new large $N$ limit for general $\text{O}(N)^{R}$ or $\text{U}(N)^{R}$ invariant tensor models, based on an enhanced large $N$ scaling of the coupling constants. The resulting large $N$ expansion is organized in terms of a half-integer associated with Feynman graphs that we call the index. This index has a natural interpretation in terms of the many matrix models embedded in the tensor model. Our new scaling can be shown to be optimal for a wide class of non-melonic interactions, which includes all the maximally single-trace terms. Our construction allows to define a new large $D$ expansion of the sum over diagrams of fixed genus in matrix models with an additional $\text{O}(D)^{r}$ global symmetry. When the interaction is the complete vertex of order $R+1$, we identify in detail the leading order graphs for $R$ a prime number. We construct the Hamiltonians and symmetry generators of Calogero-oscillator and Calogero-Coulomb models on the N-dimensional sphere within the matrix-model reduction approach. We study random torsion-free nilpotent groups generated by a pair of random words of length $\ell$ in the standard generating set of $U_n(\mathbb{Z})$. Specifically, we give asymptotic results about the step properties of the group when the lengths of the generating words are functions of $n$. We show that the threshold function for asymptotic abelianness is $\ell = c \sqrt{n}$, for which the probability approaches $e^{-2c^2}$, and also that the threshold function for having full-step, the same step as $U_n(\mathbb{Z})$, is between $c n^2$ and $c n^3$., Comment: 21 pages

Arborescent knots are the ones which can be represented in terms of double fat graphs or equivalently as tree Feynman diagrams. This is the class of knots for which the present knowledge is enough for lifting topological description to the level of effective analytical formulas. The paper describes the origin and structure of the new tables of colored knot polynomials, which will be posted at the dedicated site. Even if formal expressions are known in terms of modular transformation matrices, the computation in finite time requires additional ideas. We use the "family" approach, and apply it to arborescent knots in the Rolfsen table by developing a Feynman diagram technique associated with an auxiliary matrix model field theory. Gauge invariance in this theory helps to provide meaning to Racah matrices in the case of non-trivial multiplicities and explains the need for peculiar sign prescriptions in the calculation of [21]-colored HOMFLY polynomials., Comment: 19 pages

We review some exact results for the matrix models appearing in the localization of Chern-Simons-matter theories, focusing on the structure of non-perturbative effects and onthe M-theory expansion of ABJM theory. It is known that the large N expansion of the partition function in ABJM theory on a three-sphere is completely determined by the topological string on local Hirzebruch surface F_0. In this note, we investigate the ABJM partition function on an ellipsoid, which has a conventional deformation parameter b. Using 3d mirror symmetry, we find a remarkable relation between the ellipsoid partition function for b^2=3 (or b^2=1/3) in ABJM theory at k=1 and a matrix model for the topological string on another Calabi-Yau threefold, known as local P^2. As in the case of b=1, we can compute the full large N expansion of the partition function in this case. This is the first example of the complete large N solution in ABJM theory on the squashed sphere. Using the obtained results, we also analyze the supersymmetric Renyi entropy., Comment: 29 pages

We study a U(N) gauged matrix quantum mechanics which, in the large N limit, is closely related to the chiral WZW conformal field theory. This manifests itself in two ways. First, we construct the left-moving Kac-Moody algebra from matrix degrees of freedom. Secondly, we compute the partition function of the matrix model in terms of Schur and Kostka polynomials and show that, in the large $N$ limit, it coincides with the partition function of the WZW model. We review the BV formalism in the context of [Formula: see text]-dimensional gauge theories. For a gauge theory [Formula: see text] with an affine configuration space [Formula: see text], we describe an algorithm to construct a corresponding extended theory [Formula: see text], obtained by introducing ghost and anti-ghost fields, with [Formula: see text] a solution of the classical master equation in [Formula: see text]. This construction is the first step to define the (gauge-fixed) BRST cohomology complex associated to [Formula: see text], which encodes many interesting information on the initial gauge theory [Formula: see text]. The second part of this article is devoted to the application of this method to a matrix model endowed with a [Formula: see text]-gauge symmetry, explicitly determining the corresponding [Formula: see text] and the general solution [Formula: see text] of the classical master equation for the model.

Generalized Kontsevich Matrix Model (GKMM) with a certain given potential is the partition function of $r$-spin intersection numbers. We represent this GKMM in terms of fermions and expand it in terms of the Schur polynomials by boson-fermion correspondence, and link it with a Hurwitz partition function and a Hodge partition by operators in a $\widehat{GL}(\infty)$ group. Then, from a $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint of the partition function of $r$-spin intersection numbers, we get a $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint for the Hodge partition function. In this paper we study the double scaling limit of the multi-orientable tensor model. We prove that, contrary to the case of matrix models but similarly to the case of invariant tensor models, the double scaling series are convergent. We resum the double scaling series of the two-point function and of the leading singular part of the four-point function. We discuss the behavior of the leading singular part of arbitrary correlation functions. We show that the contribution of the four-point function and of all the higher point functions are enhanced in the double scaling limit. We finally show that all the correlation functions exhibit a singularity at the same critical value of the double scaling parameter which, combined with the convergence of the double scaling series, suggest the existence of a triple scaling limit.

We give a unified approach to localization of maximally symmetric gauge theories on spheres, including $S^6$ and $S^7$. The approach follows Pestun's method of dimensionally reducing from 10 dimensional super Yang-Mills. The resulting theories have a reduced $R$-symmetry which includes an $SU(1,1)$ subgroup, except in four dimensions where, because of conformal invariance, the full flat-space $R$-symmetry is maintained, and in seven dimensions where $SU(1,1)$ is the flat-space $R$-symmetry. For the case of $S^6$ and $S^7$ we discuss the localization of these theories and also present new results for the corresponding matrix models. The matrix models for $S^6$ and $S^7$ are qualitatively similar to the matrix models of a vector multiplet on $S^4$ and $S^5$ respectively. We demonstrate that a Hermitian matrix model can be derived from level truncated open string field theory with Chan-Paton factors. The Hermitian matrix is coupled with a scalar and a $U(N)$ vector which are responsible for the D-brane at the tachyon vacuum. Effective potential for the scalar is evaluated both in finite and large $N$. Increase of potential height is observed in both examples. In hypercube approach to correlation functions in Chern-Simons theory (knot polynomials) the central role is played by the numbers of cycles, in which the link diagram is decomposed under different resolutions. Certain functions of these numbers are further interpreted as dimensions of graded spaces, associated with hypercube vertices. Finding these functions is, however, a somewhat non-trivial problem. In arXiv:1506.07516 it was suggested to solve it with the help of the matrix model technique, in the spirit of AMM/EO topological recursion. In this paper we further elaborate on this idea and provide a vast collection of non-trivial examples, related both to ordinary and virtual links and knots. Remarkably, most powerful versions of the formalism freely convert ordinary knots/links to virtual and back -- moreover, go beyond the knot-related set of the (2,2)-valent graphs., Comment: 37 pages

We study N=1 theories on Hermitian manifolds of the form M^4=S^1xM^3 with M^3 a U(1) fibration over S^2, and their 3d N=2 reductions. These manifolds admit an Heegaard-like decomposition in solid tori D^2xT^2 and D^2xS^1. We prove that when the 4d and 3d anomalies are cancelled the matrix integrands in the Coulomb branch partition functions can be factorised in terms of 1-loop factors on D^2xT^2 and D^2xS^1 respectively. By evaluating the Coulomb branch matrix integrals we show that the 4d and 3d partition functions can be expressed as sums of products of 4d and 3d holomorphic blocks., Comment: 57 pages

We investigate the large $N$ instanton effects of partition functions in a class of $\mathcal{N}=4$ circular quiver Chern-Simons theories on a three-sphere. Our analysis is based on the supersymmetry localization and the Fermi-gas formalism. The resulting matrix model can be regarded as a two-parameter deformation of the ABJM matrix model, and has richer non-perturbative structures. Based on a systematic semi-classical analysis, we find analytic expressions of membrane instanton corrections. We study the internal structure of resonance states in a complex 2D matrix model. We show that the geometry with "exceptional points" in the complex-parameter space can be useful to discuss parameter dependence of the structures within real-parameter subspace. In the past years, there have been tremendous advances in the field of planar N=4 super Yang-Mills scattering amplitudes. At tree-level they were formulated as Grassmannian integrals and were shown to be invariant under the Yangian of the superconformal algebra psu(2,2|4). Recently, Yangian invariant deformations of these integrals were introduced as a step towards regulated loop-amplitudes. However, in most cases it is still unclear how to evaluate these deformed integrals. In this work, we propose that changing variables to oscillator representations of psu(2,2|4) turns the deformed Grassmannian integrals into certain matrix models. We exemplify our proposal by formulating Yangian invariants with oscillator representations of the non-compact algebra u(p,q) as Grassmannian integrals. These generalize the Brezin-Gross-Witten and Leutwyler-Smilga matrix models. This approach might make elaborate matrix model technology available for the evaluation of Grassmannian integrals. Matrix models are a promising candidate for a nonperturbative formulation of the superstring theory. It is possible to study how the standard model and other phenomenological models appear from the matrix model, and estimate the probability distribution of their appearance. Recent results of J.Gu and H.Jockers provide the lacking initial conditions for the evolution method in the case of the first non-trivially colored HOMFLY polynomials H_{[21]} for the family of twist knots. We describe this application of the evolution method, which finally allows one to penetrate through the wall between (anti)symmetric and non-rectangular representations for a whole family. This paper proves a matrix model for the Wishart Ensemble with general covariance and general dimension parameter beta. In so doing, we introduce a new and elegant definition of Jack polynomials.

I suggest the possibility of a new string in ten dimensions. Evidence for this string is presented both from orientifold physics and from K-theory, along with a mystery concerning the M-theory description. Motivated by this possibility, some novel aspects of decoupling limits in heterotic/type I theories are described; specifically, the decoupled theory on type I $D$-strings is argued to be three-dimensional rather than two-dimensional. We construct Virasoro algebra of differential operators for the Jones-Rosso matrix model. These operators generate various relations between Wilson loops. We introduce and study the Hermitian matrix model with potential V(x)=x^2/2-stx/(1-tx), which enumerates the number of linear chord diagrams of fixed genus with specified numbers of backbones generated by s and chords generated by t. For the one-cut solution, the partition function, correlators and free energies are convergent for small t and all s as a perturbation of the Gaussian potential, which arises for st=0. This perturbation is computed using the formalism of the topological recursion. The corresponding enumeration of chord diagrams gives at once the number of RNA complexes of a given topology as well as the number of cells in Riemann's moduli spaces for bordered surfaces. Using pole decompositions as starting points, the one parameter (-1 =< c < 1) nonlocal and nonlinear Zhdanov-Trubnikov (ZT) equation for the steady shapes of premixed gaseous flames is studied in the large-wrinkle limit. The singular integral equations for pole densities are closely related to those satisfied by the spectral density in the O(n) matrix model, with n = -2(1 + c)/(1 - c). They can be solved via the introduction of complex resolvents and the use of complex analysis. We retrieve results obtained recently for -1 =< c =< 0, and we explain and cure their pathologies when they are continued naively to 0 < c < 1. Moreover, for any -1 =< c < 1, we derive closed-form expressions for the shapes of steady isolated flame crests, and then bicoalesced periodic fronts. It has long been conjectured that certain supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theories provide us with nonperturbative formulations of the string/M-theory. Although the supersymmetry (SUSY) on lattice is notoriously difficult in general, for a class of theories important for the string/M-theory various lattice and non-lattice methods, which enable us to study them on computers, have been proposed by now. In this talk, firstly I explain how SYM and string/M-theory are related. Then I explain why the lattice SUSY is difficult in general, and how the difficulties are solved in theories related to string/M-theory. Then I review the status of the simulations. It is explained that some stringy effects are correctly incorporated in SYM. Furthermore, concrete values can be obtained from the SYM side, even when a direct calculation on the string theory side is impossible by the state-of-the-art techniques. We address the question of why particular laws were selected for the universe, by proposing a mechanism for laws to evolve. Normally in physical theories, timeless laws act on time-evolving states. We propose that this is an approximation, good on time scales shorter than cosmological scales, beyond which laws and states are merged into a single entity that evolves in time. Furthermore the approximate distinction between laws and states, when it does emerge, is dependent on the initial conditions. We investigate the matrix-model origin of the spherical sector of the rational Calogero model and its constants of motion. We develop a diagrammatic technique which allows us to find explicit expressions of the constants of motion and calculate their Poisson brackets. In this way we obtain all functionally independent constants of motion to any given order in the momenta. We extend previous work on N=2 Chern-Simons theories coupled to a single adjoint chiral superfield using localization techniques and the F-maximization principle. We provide tests of a series of proposed 3D Seiberg dualities and a new class of tests of the conjectured F-theorem. In addition, a proposal is made for a modification of the F-maximization principle that takes into account the effects of decoupling fields. Finally, we formulate and provide evidence for a new general non-perturbative constraint on spontaneous supersymmetry breaking in three dimensions based on Q-deformed S^3 partition functions. We discuss the Penner-type matrix model which has been proposed to explain the AGT relation between the 2-dimensional Liouville theory and 4-dimensional N=2 superconformal gauge theories. In our previous communication we have obtained the spectral curve of the matrix model and showed that it agrees with that derived from M-theory. We have also discussed the decoupling limit of massive flavors and proposed new matrix models which describe Seiberg-Witten theory with flavors N_f=2,3. In this article we explicitly evaluate the free energy of these matrix models and show that they in fact reproduce the amplitudes of Seiberg-Witten theory., Comment: 19 pages, 1 figure

The AGT relation identifies the Nekrasov functions for various N=2 SUSY gauge theories with the 2d conformal blocks, which possess explicit Dotsenko-Fateev matrix model (beta-ensemble) representations the latter being polylinear combinations of Selberg integrals. The "pure gauge" limit of these matrix models is, however, a non-trivial multiscaling large-N limit, which requires a separate investigation. We show that in this pure gauge limit the Selberg integrals turn into averages in a Brezin-Gross-Witten (BGW) model. Thus, the Nekrasov function for pure SU(2) theory acquires a form very much reminiscent of the AMM decomposition formula for some model X into a pair of the BGW models. At the same time, X, which still has to be found, is the pure gauge limit of the elliptic Selberg integral. Presumably, it is again a BGW model, only in the Dijkgraaf-Vafa double cut phase., Comment: 21 pages

We use localization techniques to compute the expectation values of supersymmetric Wilson loops in Chern-Simons theories with matter. We find the path-integral reduces to a non-Gaussian matrix model. The Wilson loops we consider preserve a single complex supersymmetry, and exist in any N=2 theory, though the localization requires superconformal symmetry. We present explicit results for the cases of pure Chern-Simons theory with gauge group U(N), showing agreement with the known results, and ABJM, showing agreement with perturbative calculations.
