We continue to explore the relationship between globular cluster total number, $N_{\rm GC}$, and central black hole mass, $M_\bullet$, in spiral galaxies. We present here results for the Sab galaxies NGC 3368, NGC 4736 (M 94) and NGC 4826 (M 64), and the Sm galaxy NGC 4395. The globular cluster (GC) candidate selection is based on the ($u^*$ - $i^\prime$) versus ($i^\prime$ - $K_s$) color-color diagram, and $i^\prime$-band shape parameters. We determine the $M_\bullet$ versus $N_{\rm GC}$ correlation for these spirals, plus NGC 4258, NGC 253, M 104, M 81, M 31, and the Milky Way. We also redetermine the correlation for the elliptical sample in Harris, Poole, & Harris (2014), with updated galaxy types from Sahu et al. 2019b. Additionally, we derive total stellar galaxy mass, $M_\ast$, from its two-slope correlation with $N_{\rm GC}$ (Hudson, Harris, & Harris 2014), and fit $M_\bullet$ versus $M_\ast$ for both spirals and ellipticals. We obtain log $M_\bullet \propto$ (1.01 $\pm$ 0.13) log $N_{\rm GC}$ for ellipticals, and log $M_\bullet \propto$ (1.64 $\pm$ 0.24) log $N_{\rm GC}$ for late type galaxies (LTG). The linear $M_\bullet$ versus $N_{\rm GC}$ correlation in ellipticals could be due to statistical convergence through mergers, but not the much steeper correlation for LTG. However, in the $M_\bullet$ versus total stellar mass ($M_\ast$) parameter space, with $M_\ast$ derived from its correlation with $N_{\rm GC}$, $M_\bullet \propto$ (1.48 $\pm$ 0.18) log $M_\ast$ for ellipticals, and $M_\bullet \propto$ (1.21 $\pm$ 0.16) log $M_\ast$ for LTG. The nature and origin of the molecular gas component located in the circumstellar vicinity of $\eta$ Carinae are still far from being completely understood. Here, we present Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) CO(3$-$2) observations with a high angular resolution ($\sim$0.15$''$), and a great sensitivity that are employed to reveal the origin of this component in $\eta$ Carinae. These observations reveal much higher velocity ($-$300 to $+$270 km s$^{-1}$) blue and redshifted molecular thermal emission than previously reported, which we associate with the lobes of the Homunculus Nebula, and that delineates very well the innermost contours of the red- and blue-shifted lobes likely due by limb brightening. The inner contour of the redshifted emission was proposed to be a {\it disrupted torus}, but here we revealed that it is at least part of the molecular emission originated from the lobes and/or the expanding equatorial skirt. On the other hand, closer to systemic velocities ($\pm$100 km s$^{-1}$), the CO molecular gas traces an inner butterfly-shaped structure that is also revealed at NIR and MIR wavelengths as the region in which the shielded dust resides. We present a large-scale survey of the central molecular zone (CMZ) of our Galaxy, as well as a monitoring program of Sgr A*, with the AzTEC/Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) in the 1.1 mm continuum. Our 1.1 mm map covers the main body of the CMZ over a field of $1.6 \times 1.1$ deg$^2$ with an angular resolution of $10.5''$ and a depth of 15 mJy/beam. To account for the intensity loss due to the background removal process, we combine this map with lower resolution CSO/Bolocam and \textit{Planck}/HFI data to produce an effective full intensity 1.1 mm continuum map. With this map and existing \textit{Herschel} surveys, we have carried out a comprehensive analysis of the spectral energy distribution (SED) of dust in the CMZ. A key component of this analysis is the implementation of a model-based deconvolution approach, incorporating the Point Spread Functions (PSFs) of the different instruments, and hence recovering a significant amount of spatial information on angular scales larger than $10.5''$. The monitoring of Sgr A* was carried out as part of a worldwide, multi-wavelength campaign when the so-called G2 object was undergoing the pericenter passage around the massive black hole (MBH). Our preliminary results include 1) high-resolution maps of column density, temperature and dust spectral index across the CMZ; 2) a 1.1~mm light curve of Sgr A* showing an outburst of $140\%$ maximum amplitude on 9th May, 2014 but otherwise only stochastic variations of $10\%$ and no systematic long-term change, consistent with other observations., Comment: Accepted for publication by MNRAS

We present 3 mm ALMA continuum and line observations at resolutions of 6.5 au and 13 au respectively, toward the Class 0 system IRAS 16293-2422 A. The continuum observations reveal two compact sources towards IRAS 16293-2422 A, coinciding with compact ionized gas emission previously observed at radio wavelengths (A1 and A2), confirming the long-known radio sources as protostellar. The emission towards A2 is resolved and traces a dust disk with a FWHM size of ~12 au, while the emission towards A1 sets a limit to the FWHM size of the dust disk of ~4 au. We also detect spatially resolved molecular kinematic tracers near the protostellar disks. Several lines of the J=5-4 rotational transition of HNCO, NH2CHO and t-HCOOH are detected, with which we derived individual line-of-sight velocities. Using these together with the CS (J=2-1), we fit Keplerian profiles towards the individual compact sources and derive masses of the central protostars. The kinematic analysis indicates that A1 and A2 are a bound binary system. Using this new context for the previous 30 years of VLA observations, we fit orbital parameters to the relative motion between A1 and A2 and find the combined protostellar mass derived from the orbit is consistent with the masses derived from the gas kinematics. Aims:We take advantage of the second data release of the Gaia space mission and the state-of-the-art astrometry delivered from very long baseline interferometry observations to revisit the structure and kinematics of the nearby Taurus star-forming region. Methods: We apply a hierarchical clustering algorithm for partitioning the stars in our sample into groups (i.e., clusters) that are associated with the various molecular clouds of the complex, and derive the distance and spatial velocity of individual stars and their corresponding molecular clouds. Results: We show that the molecular clouds are located at different distances and confirm the existence of important depth effects in this region reported in previous studies. For example, we find that the L 1495 molecular cloud is located at $d=129.9^{+0.4}_{-0.3}$ pc, while the filamentary structure connected to it (in the plane of the sky) is at $d=160.0^{+1.2}_{-1.2}$ pc. We report B 215 and L 1558 as the closest ($d=128.5^{+1.6}_{-1.6}$ pc) and most remote ($d=198.1^{+2.5}_{-2.5}$ pc) substructures of the complex, respectively. The median inter-cloud distance is 25 pc and the relative motion of the subgroups is on the order of a few km/s. We find no clear evidence for expansion (or contraction) of the Taurus complex, but signs of the potential effects of a global rotation. Finally, we compare the radial velocity of the stars with the velocity of the underlying $^{13}$CO molecular gas and report a mean difference of $0.04\pm0.12$ km/s (with r.m.s. of 0.63 km/s) confirming that the stars and the gas are tightly coupled., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

We present measurements of the properties of the central radio source in M87 using Event Horizon Telescope data obtained during the 2017 campaign. We develop and fit geometric crescent models (asymmetric rings with interior brightness depressions) using two independent sampling algorithms that consider distinct representations of the visibility data. We show that the crescent family of models is statistically preferred over other comparably complex geometric models that we explore. We calibrate the geometric model parameters using general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) models of the emission region and estimate physical properties of the source. We further fit images generated from GRMHD models directly to the data. We compare the derived emission region and black hole parameters from these analyses with those recovered from reconstructed images. There is a remarkable consistency among all methods and data sets. We find that >50% of the total flux at arcsecond scales comes from near the horizon, and that the emission is dramatically suppressed interior to this region by a factor >10, providing direct evidence of the predicted shadow of a black hole. With the publication of Gaia DR2, 1.3 billion stars now have public parallax and proper motion measurements. In this contribution, we compare the results for sources that have both optical and radio measurements, focusing on circumstellar masers. For these large, variable and bright AGB stars, the VLBI astrometry results can be more robust. Moreover, there are a number of applications where VLBI astrometry provides unique data for studying stellar populations and Galactic structure. The BeSSel project not only provides parallax and proper motions at much larger distances than Gaia can reach, but it also uniquely samples the spiral arms of the Galaxy. The evolved stars in the BAaDE sample can potentially constrain the dynamics and stellar content of the inner bulge and bar of the Milky Way, not reachable in the optical., Comment: 6 pages, accepted for the Proceedings of the 14th European VLBI Network Symposium & Users Meeting (typo in Authors' name, reference mixed up)

New VLA detections of the variable radio continuum source VLA J181335.1$-$174957, associated with the energetic X-ray pulsar PSR~J1813$-$1749 and the TeV source HESS J1813-178, are presented. The radio source has a right circular polarization of $\sim50\%$, and a negative spectral index of $-1.3\pm0.1$, which show that it is non-thermal. The radio pulses of the pulsar are not detected from additional Effelsberg observations at 1.4~GHz made within one week of a VLA detection. This result would appear to support the idea that the continuum radio emission detected with the VLA does not trace the time-averaged emission pulses, as had previously been suggested. We discuss other possible origins for the radio source, such as a pulsar wind, magnetospheric emission, and a low-mass star companion. However, observations made at higher frequencies by Camilo et al. (in preparation) show that the VLA source is in fact the time-averaged pulsed emission and that the detection of the pulses had not been achieved because this is the most scattered pulsar known., Comment: 10 pages, 3 Figures, 2 tables. We present a series of sixteen Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) high angular resolution observations of a cluster of suspected low-mass young stars in the Monoceros R2 region. Four compact and highly variable radio sources are detected; three of them in only one epoch, the fourth one a total of seven times. This latter source is seen in the direction to the previously known \UCHII\ region VLA~1, and has radio properties that resemble those of magnetically active stars; we shall call it VLA~1$^\star$. We model its displacement on the celestial sphere as a combination of proper motion and trigonometric parallax. The fit obtained using a uniform proper motion yields a parallax $\varpi$ = 1.10 $\pm$ 0.18 mas, but with a fairly high post-fit dispersion. If acceleration terms (probably due to an undetected companion) are included, the quality of the fit improves dramatically, and the best estimate of the parallax becomes $\varpi$ = 1.12 $\pm$ 0.05 mas. The magnitude of the fitted acceleration suggest an orbital period of order a decade. The measured parallax corresponds to a distance $d$ = 893$^{+44}_{-40}$ pc, in very good agreement with previous, indirect, determinations., Comment: Accepted for publishing in ApJ. 12 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables

We present an interferometric survey of the 44 GHz class I methanol maser transition toward a sample of 69 sources consisting of High Mass Protostellar Object candidates and Ultracompact (UC) H II regions. We found a 38% detection rate (16 of 42) in the HMPO candidates and a 54% detection rate (13 of 24) for the regions with ionized gas. This result indicates that class I methanol maser emission is more common toward more evolved young stellar objects of our sample. Comparing with similar interferometric data sets, our observations show narrower linewidths, likely due to our higher spatial resolution. Based on a comparison between molecular outflow tracers and the maser positions, we find several cases where the masers appear to be located at the outflow interface with the surrounding core. Unlike previous surveys, we also find several cases where the masers appear to be located close to the base of the molecular outflow, although we can not discard projection effects. This and other surveys of class I methanol masers not only suggest that these masers may trace shocks at different stages, but may even trace shocks arising from a number of different phenomena occurring in star-forming regions: young/old outflows, cloud-cloud collisions, expanding H II regions, among others., Comment: Accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement

The radio emission from Sgr A$^\ast$ is thought to be powered by accretion onto a supermassive black hole of $\sim\! 4\times10^6~ \rm{M}_\odot$ at the Galactic Center. At millimeter wavelengths, Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations can directly resolve the bright innermost accretion region of Sgr A$^\ast$. Motivated by the addition of many sensitive, long baselines in the north-south direction, we developed a full VLBI capability at the Large Millimeter Telescope Alfonso Serrano (LMT). We successfully detected Sgr A$^\ast$ at 3.5~mm with an array consisting of 6 Very Long Baseline Array telescopes and the LMT. We model the source as an elliptical Gaussian brightness distribution and estimate the scattered size and orientation of the source from closure amplitude and self-calibration analysis, obtaining consistent results between methods and epochs. We then use the known scattering kernel to determine the intrinsic two dimensional source size at 3.5 mm: $(147\pm7~\mu\rm{as}) \times (120\pm12~\mu\rm{as})$, at position angle $88^\circ\pm7^\circ$ east of north. Finally, we detect non-zero closure phases on some baseline triangles, but we show that these are consistent with being introduced by refractive scattering in the interstellar medium and do not require intrinsic source asymmetry to explain., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

AB Aur is a Herbig Ae star with a transitional disk. Transitional disks present substantial dust clearing in their inner regions, most probably because of the formation of one or more planets, although other explanations are still viable. In transitional objects, accretion is found to be about an order of magnitude smaller than in classical full disks. Since accretion is believed to be correlated with outflow activity, centimeter free-free jets are expected to be present in association with these systems, at weaker levels than in classical protoplanetary (full) systems. We present new observations of the centimeter radio emission associated with the inner regions of AB Aur and conclude that the morphology, orientation, spectral index and lack of temporal variability of the centimeter source imply the presence of a collimated, ionized outflow. The radio luminosity of this radio jet is, however, about 20 times smaller than that expected for a classical system of similar bolometric luminosity. We conclude that centimeter continuum emission is present in association with stars with transitional disks, but at levels than are becoming detectable only with the upgraded radio arrays. On the other hand, assuming that the jet velocity is 300 km s$^{-1}$, we find that the ratio of mass loss rate to accretion rate in AB Aur is $\sim$0.1, similar to that found for less evolved systems., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, accepted in The Astrophysical Journal Letters

We present sensitive, high angular resolution ($\sim$ 0.2 arcsec) submillimeter continuum and line observations of IRAS 16293-2422B made with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). The 0.45 mm continuum observations reveal a single and very compact source associated with IRAS 16293-2422B. This submillimeter source has a deconvolved angular size of about 400 {\it milli-arcseconds} (50 AU), and does not show any inner structure inside of this diameter. The H$^{13}$CN, HC$^{15}$N, and CH$_{3}$OH line emission regions are about twice as large as the continuum emission and reveal a pronounced inner depression or "hole" with a size comparable to that estimated for the submillimeter continuum. We suggest that the presence of this inner depression and the fact that we do not see inner structure (or a flat structure) in the continuum is produced by very optically thick dust located in the innermost parts of IRAS 16293-2422B. All three lines also show pronounced inverse P-Cygni profiles with infall and dispersion velocities larger than those recently reported from observations at lower frequencies, suggesting that we are detecting faster, and more turbulent gas located closer to the central object. Finally, we report a small east-west velocity gradient in IRAS 16293-2422B that suggests that its disk plane is likely located very close to the plane of the sky., Comment: Accepted to ApJL

Aims: Very Long Baseline Interferometry yields physical constraints on the compact radio emission of young stellar objects. At the same time, such measurements can be used for precise astrometric measurements of parallaxes and proper motions. Here, we aimed to make the first detections of very compact radio emission from class I protostars in the Corona Australis star-forming region. Methods: We have used the Long Baseline Array (LBA) to observe the protostars IRS 5 and IRS 7 in the Corona Australis star-forming region in three separate epochs Results: We report the first firm radio detection of a class I protostar using very long baseline interferometry. We have detected the previously known non-thermal source IRS 5b, part of a binary system. IRS 5a and IRS 5N were undetected, as were all sources in the IRS 7 region. Conclusions: These results underline the unusual nature of IRS 5b as a genuine protostar with confirmed non-thermal radio emission. Also, these observations highlight the potential of the LBA as a tool to provide precision astrometric measurements of individual young stellar objects in southern star-forming regions that are not accessible to the Very Long Baseline Array in the northern hemisphere., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted in Astronomy & Astrophysics

We present observations of three Class 0/I protostars (L1157-mm, CB230 IRS1, and L1165-SMM1) using the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and observations of two (L1165-SMM1 and CB230 IRS1) with the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA). The VLA observations were taken at wavelengths of $\lambda = 7.3$ mm, 1.4 cm, 3.3 cm, 4.0 cm, and 6.5 cm with a best resolution of $\sim$0\farcs06 (18 AU) at 7.3 mm. The L1165-SMM1 CARMA observations were taken at $\lambda = 1.3$ mm with a best resolution of $\sim0\farcs3$ (100 AU), and the CB230 IRS1 observations were taken at $\lambda = 3.4$ mm with a best resolution of $\sim$3\arcsec\ (900 AU). We find that L1165-SMM1 and CB230 IRS1 have probable binary companions at separations of $\sim$0\farcs3 (100 AU) from detections of secondary peaks at multiple wavelengths. The position angles of these companions are nearly orthogonal to the direction of the observed bipolar outflows, consistent with the expected protostellar disk orientations. We suggest that these companions may have formed from disk fragmentation; turbulent fragmentation would not preferentially arrange the binary companions to be orthogonal to the outflow direction. For L1165-SMM1, both the 7.3 mm and 1.3 mm emission show evidence of a large (R $>$ 100 AU) disk. For the L1165-SMM1 primary protostar and the CB230 IRS1 secondary protostar, the 7.3 mm emission is resolved into structures consistent with $\sim20$ AU radius disks. We present an astrometry study of the radio source VLA 1 at the core of the HH 111 outflow using new data (2007) as well as archival observations (1992-1996). All data were taken at 3.6 cm with the Very Large Array in its most extended (A) configuration. The source VLA 1 has undergone a dramatic morphological change, showing a one-sided knot ejection in the 2007 epoch. We also report on the detection of a 3.6 cm compact continuum source (VLA 3) located at (-10.6",98.7") from VLA 1. No significant absolute proper motions were found for VLA 1 and VLA 3 and the upper limits are consistent with those found for (embedded) radio sources in the Orion Nebula. We favor the interpretation that in the continuum at 3.6 cm we are observing two nearly perpendicular jets. HH 111 presents a new case of one-sided jet ejection in a young stellar object. We present ALMA and VLA observations of the molecular and ionized gas at 0.1-0.3 arcsec resolution in the Class 0 protostellar system IRAS 16293-2422. These data clarify the origins of the protostellar outflows from the deeply embedded sources in this complex region. Source A2 is confirmed to be at the origin of the well known large scale north-east--south-west flow. The most recent VLA observations reveal a new ejection from that protostar, demonstrating that it drives an episodic jet. The central compact part of the other known large scale flow in the system, oriented roughly east-west, is well delineated by the CO(6-5) emission imaged with ALMA and is confirmed to be driven from within component A. Finally, a one-sided blueshifted bubble-like outflow structure is detected here for the first time from source B to the north-west of the system. Its very short dynamical timescale (~ 200 yr), low velocity, and moderate collimation support the idea that source B is the youngest object in the system, and possibly one of the youngest protostars known., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS; minor cosmetic changes

(ABRIDGED) We present multi-epoch Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations of V773 Tau A, the 51-day binary subsystem in the multiple young stellar system V773 Tau. Combined with previous interferometric and radial velocity measurements, these new data enable us to improve the characterization of the physical orbit of the A subsystem. In particular, we infer updated dynamical masses for the primary and the secondary components of 1.55 pm 0.11 Msun, and 1.293 pm 0.068 Msun, respectively, and an updated orbital parallax distance to the system of 135.7 pm 3.2 pc, all consistent with previous estimates. Using the improved orbit, we can calculate the absolute coordinates of the barycenter of V773 Tau A at each epoch of our VLBA observations, and fit for its trigonometric parallax and proper motion. This provides a direct measurement of the distance to the system almost entirely independent of the orbit modeling. The best fit yields a distance of 129.9 pm 3.2 pc, in good agreement (i.e. within 1 sigma) with the distance estimate based on the orbital fit. Taking the mean value of the orbital and trigonometric parallaxes, we conclude that V773 Tau is located at d =132.8 pm 2.3 pc. The accuracy of this determination is nearly one order of magnitude better than that of previous estimates. In projection, V773 Tau and two other young stars (Hubble 4 and HDE 283572) recently observed with the VLBA are located toward the dark cloud Lynds 1495, in the central region of Taurus. These three stars appear to have similar trigonometric parallaxes, radial velocities, and proper motions, and we argue that the weighted mean and dispersion of their distances (d = 131.4 pc and sigma_d = 2.4 pc) provide a good estimate of the distance to and depth of Lynds 1495 and its associated stellar population., Comment: Accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal

Using the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), we have observed the radio continuum emission from the young stellar object HW 9 in the Cepheus A star-forming region at ten epochs between 2007 February and 2009 November. Due to its strong radio variability, the source was detected at only four of the ten epochs. From these observations, the trigonometric parallax of HW 9 was determined to be $\pi$ = 1.43 $\pm$ 0.07 mas, in excellent agreement with a recent independent VLBA determination of the trigonometric parallax of a methanol maser associated with the nearby young stellar source HW 2 ($\pi$ = 1.43 $\pm$ 0.08 mas). This concordance in results, obtained in one case from continuum and in the other from line observations, confirms the reliability of Very Long Baseline Array trigonometric parallax measurements. By combining the two results, we constrain the distance to Cepheus A to be 700$_{-28}^{+31}$ pc, an uncertainty of 3.5%., Comment: Accepted for publication in the ApJ

We present optical and IR integrated colours and SBF magnitudes, computed from stellar population synthesis models that include emission from the dusty envelopes surrounding TP-AGB stars undergoing mass-loss. We explore the effects of varying the mass-loss rate by one order of magnitude around the fiducial value, modifying accordingly both the stellar parameters and the output spectra of the TP-AGB stars plus their dusty envelopes. The models are single burst, and range in age from a few Myr to 14 Gyr, and in metallicity between $Z$ = 0.0001 and $Z$ = 0.07; they combine new calculations for the evolution of stars in the TP-AGB phase, with star plus envelope SEDs produced with the radiative transfer code DUSTY. We compare these models to optical and near-IR data of single AGB stars and Magellanic star clusters. This comparison validates the current understanding of the role of mass-loss in determining stellar parameters and spectra in the TP-AGB. However, neither broad-band colours nor SBF measurements in the optical or the near-IR can discern global changes in the mass-loss rate of a stellar population. We predict that mid-IR SBF measurements can pick out such changes, and actually resolve whether a relation between metallicity and mass-loss exists., Comment: 31 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We report observations of the dust cloud L1204 with the Onsala 25-m telescope in the 6 cm (1$_{11}-1_{10}$) transition of \htco. The observed region includes the S140 H${\alpha}$ arc. This spectral line is seen here in absorption against the cosmic microwave background, indicating the presence of widespread warm molecular gas at intermediate densities. Overall, the distributions of H$_2$CO and CO (taken from the literature) are fairly similar, though significant differences exist at small scales. Most notably, while the CO peak is nearly coincident with the S140 H${\alpha}$ arc, the maximum H$_2$CO absorption is clearly separated from it by a full 10$'$ beam ($\sim$ 3 pc). We argue that these differences result from differing abundances and excitation requirements. The CO(1-0) line is more optically thick and more biased towards warm gas than the H$_2$CO 6 cm line. On the other hand, formaldehyde is more easily photodissociated and is, therefore, a poorer tracer of the molecular gas located immediately behind Photon Dominated Regions., Comment: 9 pages 6 figures ApJ:accepted

We present observations of IRAS 16293-2422 using the Submillimeter Array (SMA) at 300 GHz, and the Very Large Array (VLA) at frequencies from 1.5 to 43 GHz. This source was already known to be a binary system with components A and B separated by ~5". The new SMA data now separate source A into two submm continuum components, denoted Aa and Ab. The strongest of these, Aa, peaks between the cm radio sources A1 and A2. Archival VLA data show proper motion of sources A and B of 17 mas/yr, associated with motion of the rho Ophiuchi cloud. We also find relative motion between A1 and A2 which excludes the possibility that they are gravitationally bound. A2 remains stationary relative to source B, and we identify it as the protostar driving the NE-SW CO outflow. A1 is shock-ionized gas where a precessing jet interacts with dense gas. This jet probably drives the E-W CO outflow. The origin of this jet must be located close to A2, and may be the submm source Aa. Thus source A is now shown to comprise three components within 1". Source B, however, is single, exhibits optically-thick dust emission even at 8 GHz, has a high luminosity, and yet shows no sign of outflow, indicating it is probably very young. The SMA spectrum of IRAS 16293-2422 reports the first astronomical identification of many lines at 300 and 310 GHz. The species detected are typical of hot cores, and are mainly associated with source A. We suggest the shock at A1 may explain the enhanced abundances measured, especially of sulphur-bearing molecules. We use the high brightness temperature of the submm dust emission from source B to demonstrate the unambiguous detection of infall by observing redshifted SO (7_7-6_6) absorption against the dust disk., Comment: 60 pages, 22 figures, accepted for publication by ApJ

A detailed hydrodynamical model of the gas flow in the triaxial gravitational potential of the bulge of the Andromeda galaxy (M31) has recently been proposed by Berman (2001) astro-ph/0103209, and shown to provide excellent agreement with the CO emission line velocities observed along its major axis. In the present paper, we confirm the validity of that model by showing that it can also reproduce the CO velocities observed off the major axis - a much more robust test. The CO observations, however, tend to span a wider range of velocities than a direct application of the original model of Berman would suggest. This situation can be improved significantly if the molecular disk is made thicker, a requirement already encountered in dynamical simulations of other spiral galaxies, and typically attributed to a broadening of the molecular layer in galactic fountain-like processes. In the central regions of M31, however, it is unclear whether there actually is a thick molecular disk, or whether broadening the molecular layer is merely an artificial theoretical means of accounting for some disk warping.
