The paper alluded to in the title contains the following striking result: Let $I$ be the unit interval and $\Delta$ the Cantor set. If $X$ is a quasi Banach space containing no copy of $c_0$ which is isomorphic to a closed subspace of a space with a basis and $C(I, X)$ is linearly homeomorphic to $C(\Delta, X)$, then $X$ is locally convex, i.e., a Banach space. It is shown that Kalton result is sharp by exhibiting non locally convex quasi Banach spaces X with a basis for which $C(I, X)$ and $C(\Delta, X)$ are isomorphic. Our examples are rather specific and actually in all cases X is isomorphic to $C(\Delta, X)$ if $K$ is a metric compactum of finite covering dimension., Comment: 4 pages

We show that bounded self-contracted curves are rectifiable in metric spaces with weak lower curvature bound in a sense we introduce in this article. This class of spaces is wide and includes, for example, finite-dimensional Alexandrov spaces of curvature bounded below and Berwald spaces of nonnegative flag curvature. (To be more precise, our condition is regarded as a strengthened doubling condition and holds also for a certain class of metric spaces with upper curvature bound.) We also provide the non-embeddability of large snowflakes into (balls in) metric spaces in the same class. We follow the strategy of the last author's previous paper based on the small rough angle condition, where spaces with upper curvature bound are considered. In this short note we show that non-negative Ricci curvature is not preserved under Ricci flow for closed manifolds of dimensions four and above, strengthening a previous result of Knopf in \cite{K} for complete non-compact manifolds of bounded curvature. This brings down to four dimensions a similar result B\"ohm and Wilking have for dimensions twelve and above, \cite{BW}. Moreover, the manifolds constructed here are \Kahler manifolds and relate to a question raised by Xiuxiong Chen in \cite{XC}, \cite{XCL}., Comment: New version with added references and corrected typos

In 1973, Diestel published his seminal paper `Grothendieck spaces and vector measures' that drew a connection between Grothendieck spaces (Banach spaces for which weak- and weak*-sequential convergences in the dual space coincide) and vector measures. This connection was developed in his book with J. Uhl Jr. `Vector measures'. Additionally, Diestel's paper included a section with several open problems about the structural properties of Grothendieck spaces, and only half of them have been solved to this day. The present paper aims at synthetically presenting the state of the art at subjectively selected corners of the theory of Banach spaces with the Grothendieck property, describing the main examples of spaces with this property, recording the solutions to Diestel's problems, providing generalisations/extensions or new proofs of various results concerning Grothendieck spaces, and adding to the list further problems that we believe are of relevance and may reinvigorate a better-structured development of the theory., Comment: 55 pp., accepted for publication in Japanese Journal of Mathematics

We prove strengthenings of the Birkhoff Ergodic Theorem for weakly mixing and strongly mixing measure preserving systems. We show that our pointwise theorem for weakly mixing systems is strictly stronger than the Wiener-Wintner Theorem. We also show that our pointwise Theorems for weakly mixing and strongly mixing systems characterize weakly mixing systems and strongly mixing systems respectively. The methods of this paper also allow one to prove an enhanced pointwise ergodic theorem for other levels of the ergodic hierarchy such as ergodicity and mild mixing but not K-mixing. Several results in the existing literature establish Euclidean density theorems of the following strong type. These results claim that every set of positive upper Banach density in the Euclidean space of an appropriate dimension contains isometric copies of all sufficiently large elements of a prescribed family of finite point configurations. So far, all results of this type discussed linear isotropic dilates of a fixed point configuration. In this paper we initiate the study of analogous density theorems for families of point configurations generated by anisotropic dilations, i.e., families with power-type dependence on a single parameter interpreted as their size. More specifically, here we prove nonisotropic power-type generalizations of a result by Bourgain on vertices of a simplex, a result by Lyall and Magyar on vertices of a rectangular box, and a result on distance trees, which is a particular case of the treatise of distance graphs by Lyall and Magyar. Another source of motivation for this paper is providing additional evidence for the versatility of the approach stemming from the work of Cook, Magyar, and Pramanik and its modification used recently by Durcik and the present author. In this paper we investigate the property (HLUR), a generalisation of (LUR) property of a Banach space. A Banach space having the property (HLUR) is called an HLUR space. We characterise (HLUR) property with the help of known geometric properties and study various properties of HLUR spaces. We show that for any finite dimensional Banach space, the property (HLUR) coincides with anti-Daugavet property of the space. We also show some applications of HLUR spaces in connection with farthest points of sets., Comment: There is a mistake in a proof in page no. 12. This is the reason for the withdrawal of the paper. We prove that ascending HNN extensions of free groups are word-hyperbolic if and only if they have no Baumslag-Solitar subgroups. This extends the theorem of Brinkmann that free-by-cyclic groups are word-hyperbolic if and only if they have no free abelian subgroups of rank 2. The paper is split into two independent parts: 1) We study the dynamics of injective nonsurjective endomorphisms of free groups. We prove a canonical structure theorem that initializes the development of improved relative train tracks for endomorphisms; this structure theorem is of independent interest since it makes many open questions about injective endomorphisms tractable. 2) As an application of the structure theorem, we are able to (relatively) combine Brinkmann's theorem with our previous work and obtain the main result stated above. We study in detail the so-called Chow-weight homology of Voevodsky motivic complexes and relate it to motivic homology. We generalize earlier results and prove that the vanishing of higher motivic homology groups of a motif $M$ implies similar vanishing for its Chow-weight homology along with effectivity properties of the higher terms of its weight complex $t(M)$ and of higher Deligne weight quotients of its cohomology. Applying this statement to motives with compact support we obtain a similar relation between the vanishing of Chow groups and the cohomology with compact support of varieties. Moreover, we prove that if higher motivic homology groups of a geometric motif or a variety over a universal domain are torsion (in a certain "range") then the exponents of these groups are uniformly bounded. To prove our main results we study Voevodsky slices of motives. Since the slice functors do not respect the compactness of motives, the results of the previous Chow-weight homology paper are not sufficient for our purposes; this is our main reason to extend them to ($w_{Chow}$-bounded below) motivic complexes., Comment: This a new paper on Chow-weight homology; thus it is closely related to extending the decomposition of the diagonal theory to Voevodsky motives. This paper is devoted to a simple proof of the generalized Leibniz rule in bounded domains. The operators under consideration are the so-called spectral Laplacian and the restricted Laplacian. Equations involving such operators have lately been considered by Constantin and Ignatova in the framework of the SQG equation [P. Constantin and M. Ignatova, Critical SQG in bounded domains, Ann. PDE 2 2016, 2, Article ID 8] in bounded domains, and by two of the authors [Q.-H. Nguyen and J. L. Vázquez, Porous medium equation with nonlocal pressure in a bounded domain, Comm. Partial Differential Equations 43 2018, 10, 1502–1539] in the framework of the porous medium with nonlocal pressure in bounded domains. We will use the estimates in this work in a forthcoming paper on the study of porous medium equations with pressure given by Riesz-type potentials.

A new transparent proof of the well known good compactification theorem for the complex torus $(\Bbb C^*)^n$ is presented. This theorem provides a powerful tool in enumerative geometry for subvarieties in the complex torus. The paper also contains an algorithm constructing a good compactification for a subvariety in $(\Bbb C^*)^n$ explicitly defined by a system of equations. A new theorem on a torodoidal like compactification is stated. A transparent proof of this generalization of the good compactification theorem which is similar to proofs and constructions from this paper will be presented in a forthcoming publication., Comment: 19 pages

The singular set of a viscosity solution to a Hamilton-Jacobi equation is known to propagate, from any noncritical singular point, along singular characteristics which are curves satisfying certain differential inclusions. In the literature, different notions of singular characteristics were introduced. However, a general uniqueness criterion for singular characteristics, not restricted to mechanical systems or problems in one space dimension, is missing at the moment. In this paper, we prove that, for a Tonelli Hamiltonian on $\mathbb{R}^2$, two different notions of singular characteristics coincide up to a bi-Lipschitz reparameterization. As a significant consequence, we obtain a uniqueness result for the class of singular characteristics that was introduced by Khanin and Sobolevski in the paper [On dynamics of Lagrangian trajectories for Hamilton-Jacobi equations. In this paper we develop combinatorial techniques for the case of string algebras with the aim to give a characterization of string complexes with infinite minimal projective resolution. These complexes will be called \textit{periodic string complexes}. As a consequence of this characterization, we give two important applications. The first one, is a sufficient condition for a string algebra to have infinite global dimension. In the second one, we exhibit a class of indecomposable objects in the derived category for a special case of string algebras. This paper is dedicated to the study of smashing weight structures (one may say that these are weight structures "coherent with arbitrary coproducts"), and the application of their properties to $t$-structures. In particular, we prove that hearts of compactly generated $t$-structures are Grothendieck abelian; this statement strengthens earlier results of several other authors. The central theorem of the paper is as follows: any perfect set of objects of a triangulated category generates a weight structure; we say that weight structures obtained this way are perfectly generated. An important family of perfectly generated weight structures are the ones adjacent to compactly generated $t$-structures; they give injective cogenerators for the hearts of the latter. We also establish the following not so explicit result: any smashing weight structure on a well generated triangulated category (this class of categories contains compactly generated ones) is perfectly generated; actually, we prove more than that. Moreover, we give a classification of compactly generated torsion theories (these generalize both weight structures and $t$-structures) that extends the corresponding result of D. Pospisil D. and J. \v{S}\v{t}ovi\v{c}ek to arbitrary smashing triangulated categories., Comment: Some information on perfectly generated weight structures and on the relations between hearts of adjacent weight and t-structures was added. I. M. Milin proposed, in his 1971 paper, a system of inequalities for the logarithmic coefficients of normalized univalent functions on the unit disk of the complex plane. This is known as the Lebedev-Milin conjecture and implies the Robertson conjecture which in turn implies the Bieberbach conjecture. In 1984, Louis de Branges settled the long-standing Bieberbach conjecture by showing the Lebedev-Milin conjecture. Recently, O.~Roth proved an interesting sharp inequality for the logarithmic coefficients based on the proof by de Branges. In this paper, following Roth's ideas, we will show more general sharp inequalities with convex sequences as weight functions and then establish several consequences of them. We also consider the inequality with the help of de Branges system of linear ODE for non-convex sequences where the proof is partly assisted by computer. In this paper, we construct and study a semigroup associated to an action of a countable discrete group on a compact Hausdorff space that can be regarded as a higher dimensional generalization of the type semigroup. We study when this semigroup is almost unperforated. This leads to a new characterization of dynamical comparison and thus answers a question of Kerr and Schafhauser. In addition, this paper suggests a definition of comparison for dynamical systems in which neither the acting group is necessarily amenable nor the action is minimal.

Building on previous papers by Anantharaman-Delaroche (AD) we introduce and study the notion of AD-amenability for partial actions and Fell bundles over discrete groups. We prove that the cross-sectional C*-algebra of a Fell bundle is nuclear if and only if the underlying unit fibre is nuclear and the Fell bundle is AD-amenable. If a partial action is globalisable, then it is AD-amenable if and only if its globalisation is AD-amenable. Moreover, we prove that AD-amenability is preserved by (weak) equivalence of Fell bundles and, using a very recent idea of Ozawa and Suzuki, we show that AD-amenabity is equivalent to an approximation property introduced by Exel., Comment: Substantial modifications. This paper introduces a new family of solids, which we call \textit{polycons}, which generalise the sphericon in a natural way. The static properties of the polycons are derived, and their rolling behaviour is described and compared to that of other developable rollers such as the oloid and particular polysphericons. Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic. If $M$ is a finite dimensional $G$-module that is projective over the Frobenius kernel of $G$, then its character is divisible by the character of the Steinberg module. In this paper we study such quotients, showing that if $M$ is an indecomposable tilting module, then the multiplicities of the orbit sums appearing in its "Steinberg quotient" are well behaved., Comment: further explanation is given relating this paper to existing literature, final section has also been revised completely, more typos have been corrected and other minor errors

In recent joint works of the present author with M.Prasolov and V.Shastin a new technique for distinguishing Legendrian knots has been developed. In this paper the technique is extended further to provide a tool for distinguishing transverse knots. It is shown that the equivalence problem for transverse knots with trivial orientation-preserving symmetry group is algorithmically solvable. In a future paper the triviality condition for the orientation-preserving symmetry group will be dropped., Comment: 17 pages, 17 figures

In the paper we present new examples of unexpected varieties. The research on unexpected varieties started with a paper of Cook II, Harbourne, Migliore and Nagel and was continued in the paper of Harbourne, Migliore, Nagel and Teitler. Here we present three ways of producing unexpected varieties that expand on what was previously known. In the paper of Harbourne, Migliore, Nagel and Teitler, cones on varieties of codimension 2 were used to produce unexpected hypersurfaces. Here we show that cones on positive dimensional varieties of codimension 2 or more almost always give unexpected hypersurfaces. For non-cones, almost all previous work has been for unexpected hypersurfaces coming from finite sets of points. Here we construct unexpected surfaces coming from lines in $\mathbb{P}^3$, and we generalize the construction using birational transformations to obtain unexpected hypersurfaces in higher dimensions., Comment: 15 pages

In this paper, we generalize the push-forward (Gysin) formulas for flag bundles in the ordinary cohomology theory, which are due to Darondeau-Pragacz, to the complex cobordism theory. What can be said about the subalgebras of the polynomial ring, with minimal or maximal Hilbert function? This question was discussed in a recent paper by M. Boij and A. Conca. In this paper we study the subalgebras generated in degree two with minimal Hilbert function. The problem to determine the generators of these algebras transfers into a combinatorial problem on counting maximal north-east lattice paths inside a shifted Ferrers diagram. We conjecture that the subalgebras generated in degree two with minimal Hilbert function are generated by an initial Lex or RevLex segment., Comment: To appear in Mathematica Scandinavica

In this paper we analyze Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on a finite cover $G$ of an adelic split simply-laced group. Let $\pi$ be a minimal or next-to-minimal automorphic representation of $G$. We prove that any $\eta\in \pi$ is completely determined by its Whittaker coefficients with respect to (possibly degenerate) characters of the unipotent radical of a fixed Borel subgroup, analogously to the Piatetski-Shapiro--Shalika formula for cusp forms on $GL_n$. We also derive explicit formulas expressing the form, as well as all its maximal parabolic Fourier coefficient in terms of these Whittaker coefficients. A consequence of our results is the non-existence of cusp forms in the minimal and next-to-minimal automorphic spectrum. A linear equation with coefficients in $\mathbb{F}_q$ is common if the number of monochromatic solutions in any two-coloring of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is asymptotically (as $n \to \infty$) at least the number expected in a random two-coloring. The linear equation is Sidorenko if the number of solutions in any dense subset of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is asymptotically at least the number expected in a random set of the same density. In this paper, we characterize those linear equations which are common, and those which are Sidorenko. The main novelty is a construction based on choosing random Fourier coefficients that shows that certain linear equations do not have these properties. In his recent Proceedings of the AMS paper, “Gossez’s skew linear map and its pathological maximally monotone multifunctions”, Stephen Simons proved that the closure of the range of the sum of the Gossez operator and a multiple of the duality map is not convex whenever the scalar is between 0 0 and 4 4 . The problem of the convexity of that range when the scalar is equal to 4 4 was explicitly stated. In this paper, we answer this question in the negative for any scalar greater than or equal to 4 4 . We derive this result from an abstract framework that allows us to also obtain a corresponding result for the Fitzpatrick-Phelps integral operator.

A $q$-analogue of $r$-Whitney numbers of the second kind, denoted by $W_{m,r}[n,k]_q$, is defined by means of a triangular recurrence relation. In this paper, several fundamental properties for the $q$-analogue are established including other forms of recurrence relations, explicit formulas and generating functions. In this short paper, we show that the solution set of a combination of equilibrium problems is not necessary contained in the intersection of a finite family of solution sets of equilibrium problems. As a corollary, we deduce that statements in recent papers given by S. Suwannaut, A. Kangtunyakarn (Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2013, 2014; Thai Journal of Maths. 2016), W. Khuangsatung, A. Kangtunyakarn (Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2014), and A.A. Khan, W. Cholamjiak, and K.R. Kazmi (Comput. Appl. Maths. 2018) are not correct., Comment: submitted (unpublished)

A strong submeasure on a compact metric space X is a sub-linear and bounded operator on the space of continuous functions on X. A strong submeasure is positive if it is non-decreasing. By Hahn-Banach theorem, a positive strong submeasure is the supremum of a non-empty collection of measures whose masses are uniformly bounded from above. There are many natural examples of continuous maps of the forms $f:U\rightarrow X$, where $X$ is a compact metric space and $U\subset X$ is an open dense subsets, where $f$ cannot extend to a reasonable function on $X$. We can mention cases such as: transcendental maps of $\mathbb{C}$, meromorphic maps on compact complex varieties, or continuous self-maps $f:U\rightarrow U$ of a dense open subset $U\subset X$ where $X$ is a compact metric space. To the maps mentioned in the previous paragraph, the use of measures is not sufficient to establish the basic properties of ergodic theory, such as the existence of invariant measures or a reasonable definition of measure theoretic entropy and topological entropy. In this paper, we show that strong submeasures can be used to completely resolve the issue and establish these basic properties. The same idea can also be applied to improve on \'etale topological entropy, previously defined by the author. The Ichino–Ikeda conjecture, and its generalization to unitary groups by N. Harris, gives explicit formulas for central critical values of a large class of Rankin–Selberg tensor products. The latter conjecture has been proved in full generality and applies to L-values of the form L(12,BC(π)× BC(π′)), where π and π′ are cohomological automorphic representations of unitary groups U(V) and U(V′), respectively. Here V and V′ are hermitian spaces over a CM field, V of dimension n, V′ of codimension 1 in V, and BC denotes the twisted base change to GL(n)× GL(n−1). This paper contains the first steps toward constructing a p-adic interpolation of the normalized square roots of these L-values, generalizing the construction in my paper with Tilouine on triple product L-functions. It will be assumed that the CM field is imaginary quadratic, π is a holomorphic representation and π′ varies in an ordinary Hida family (of antiholomorphic forms). The construction of the measure attached to π uses recent work of Eischen, Fintzen, Mantovan, and Varma.

In this paper, we present a further generalization of the bi-periodic Fibonacci quaternions and octonions. We give the generating function, the Binet formula, and some basic properties of these quaternions and octonions. The results of this paper not only give a generalization of the bi-periodic Fibonacci quaternions and octonions, but also include new results such as the matrix representation and the norm value of the generalized bi-periodic Fibonacci sequence. © 2019 Novi Sad Journal of Mathematics. In this paper we completely classify the homogeneous two-spheres, especially, the minimal homogeneous ones in the quaternionic projective space $\textbf{HP}^n$. This paper is the first in a series which aims at: (a) giving a proof that the associator relations between multizeta values imply the double shuffle and regularization (DSR) ones, alternative to that of the second-named author's 2010 paper; (b) enhancing Racinet's construction of a torsor structure over the Q-scheme of DSR relations to an explicit bitorsor structure. In this paper, we revisit Racinet's original DSR formalism, whose main character is an algebra coproduct, called the harmonic coproduct, and we introduce a variant which is a module coproduct; we explain the `de Rham' nature of this formalism and construct a `Betti' counterpart of it; we show how both formalisms can be interpreted in terms of geometry, following the ideas of Deligne and Terasoma's unfinished 2005 preprint; we use Bar-Natan's interpretation of associators as functors from the category of parenthesized braids to that of chord diagrams to show that any associator relates the Betti and de Rham geometric objects, both in the `algebraic' and in the `module' setups; we derive that any associator relates the Betti and de Rham algebra coproducts, as well as their module counterparts. A central question in General Relativity (GR) is how to determine whether singularities are geometrical properties of spacetime, or simply anomalies of a coordinate system used to parameterize the spacetime. In particular, it is an open problem whether there always exist coordinate transformations which smooth a gravitational metric to optimal regularity, two full derivatives above the curvature tensor, or whether regularity singularities exist. We resolve this open problem above a threshold level of smoothness by proving in this paper that the existence of such coordinate transformations is equivalent to solving a system of nonlinear elliptic equations in the unknown Jacobian and transformed connection, both viewed as matrix valued differential forms. We name these the Regularity Transformation equations, or RT-equations. In a companion paper we prove existence of solutions to the RT-equations for connections $\Gamma\in W^{m,p},$ curvature ${\rm Riem}(\Gamma) \in W^{m,p}$, assuming $m\geq1$, $p>n$. Taken together, these results imply that there always exist coordinate transformations which smooth arbitrary connections to optimal regularity, (one derivative more regular than the curvature), and there are no regularity singularities, above the threshold $m\geq1$, $p>n$. In the present paper, which is a direct sequel of our paper [12] joint with Roozbeh Hazrat, we prove unrelativised version of the standard commutator formula in the setting of Chevalley groups. Namely, let $\Phi$ be a reduced irreducible root system of rank $\ge 2$, let $R$ be a commutative ring and let $I,J$ be two ideals of $R$. We consider subgroups of the Chevalley group $G(\Phi,R)$ of type $\Phi$ over $R$. The unrelativised elementary subgroup $E(\Phi,I)$ of level $I$ is generated (as a group) by the elementary unipotents $x_{\alpha}(\xi)$, $\alpha\in\Phi$, $\xi\in I$, of level $I$. Obviously, in general $E(\Phi,I)$ has no chances to be normal in $E(\Phi,R)$, its normal closure in the absolute elementary subgroup $E(\Phi,R)$ is denoted by $E(\Phi,R,I)$. The main results of [12] implied that the commutator $\big[E(\Phi,I),E(\Phi,J)]$ is in fact normal in $E(\Phi,R)$. In the present paper we prove an unexpected result that in fact $\big[E(\Phi,I),E(\Phi,J)]=\big[E(\Phi,R,I),E(\Phi,R,J)\big]$. It follows that the standard commutator formula also holds in the unrelativised form, namely $\big[E(\Phi,I),C(\Phi,R,J)]=\big[E(\Phi,I),E(\Phi,J)\big]$, where $C(\Phi,R,I)$ is the full congruence subgroup of level $I$. In this paper, we give lower bounds for the homology of the fibers of a map to a manifold. Using new sheaf theoretic methods, we show that these lower bounds persist over whole open sets of the manifold, and that they are stable under perturbations of the map. In this paper, we study a three-dimensional Ricci-degenerate Riemannian manifold $$(M^3,g)$$ that admits a smooth nontrivial solution f to the equation 1 $$\begin{aligned} \nabla df=\psi Rc+\phi g, \end{aligned}$$ where $$\psi ,\phi $$ are given smooth functions of f, Rc is the Ricci tensor of g. Spaces of this type include various interesting classes, namely gradient Ricci solitons, m-quasi Einstein metrics, (vacuum) static spaces, V-static spaces, and critical point metrics. The m-quasi Einstein metrics and vacuum static spaces were previously studied in Jordan (Gen Relativ Gravit 41(9):2191–2280, 2009) and Kim and Shin (Math Nachr 292(8): 1727–1750, 2019), respectively. In this paper, we refine them and develop a general approach for the solutions of (1). We specify the shape of the metric g satisfying (1) when $$\nabla f$$ is not a Ricci-eigen vector. Then we focus on the remaining three classes, namely gradient Ricci solitons, V-static spaces, and critical point metrics. Furthermore, we present classifications of local three-dimensional Ricci-degenerate spaces of these three classes by explicitly describing the metric g and the potential function f.

In a prior paper, the author generalized the classical factor theorem of Sinai to actions of arbitrary countably infinite groups. In the present paper, we use this theorem and the techniques of its proof in order to study connections between positive entropy phenomena and the Koopman representation. Following the line of work initiated by Hayes for sofic entropy, we show in a certain precise manner that all positive entropy must come from portions of the Koopman representation that embed into the left-regular representation. By combining this result with the generalized factor theorem of the previous paper, we conclude that for actions having completely positive outer entropy, the Koopman representation must be isomorphic to the countable direct sum of the left-regular representation. This generalizes a theorem of Dooley--Golodets for countable amenable groups. As a final consequence, we observe that actions with completely positive outer entropy must be mixing, and when the group is non-amenable they must be strongly ergodic and have spectral gap. We also prove generalizations of these results that apply relative to sub-$\sigma$-algebras and apply to non-free actions.

Let $R$ and $S$ be polynomial rings of positive dimensions over a field $k$. Let $I\subseteq R, J\subseteq S$ be non-zero homogeneous ideals none of which contains a linear form. Denote by $F$ the fiber product of $I$ and $J$ in $T=R\otimes_k S$. We compute homological invariants of the powers of $F$ using the data of $I$ and $J$. Under the assumption that either $\text{char}~ k=0$ or $I$ and $J$ are monomial ideals, we provide explicit formulas for the depth and regularity of powers of $F$. In particular, we establish for all $s\ge 2$ the intriguing formula $\text{depth}(T/F^s)=0$. If moreover each of the ideals $I$ and $J$ is generated in a single degree, we show that for all $s\ge 1$, $\text{reg}~ F^s=\max_{i\in [1,s]}\{\text{reg}~ I^i+s-i,\text{reg}~ J^i+s-i\}$. Finally, we prove that the linearity defect of $F$ is the maximum of the linearity defects of $I$ and $J$, extending previous work of Conca and R\"omer. We define a class of singularity on arbitrary pairs of a normal variety and an effective $\mathbb{R}$-divisor on it, which we call pseudo-lc in this paper. This is a generalization of the usual lc singularity of pairs and log canonical singularity of normal varieties introduced by de Fernex and Hacon. By giving examples of pseudo-lc pairs which are not lc or log canonical in the sense of de Fernex--Hacon's paper, we show that pseudo-lc singularity is a strictly extended notion of those singularities. We prove that pseudo-lc pairs admit a small lc modification. When a closed Finsler manifold admits continuous isometric actions, estimating the number of orbits of prime closed geodesics seems a more reasonable substitution for estimating the number of prime closed geodesics. To generalize the works of H. Duan, Y. Long, H.B. Rademacher, W. Wang and others on the existence of two prime closed geodesics to the equivariant situation, we purpose the question if a closed Finsler manifold has only one orbit of prime closed geodesic if and only if it is a compact rank-one Riemannian symmetric space. In this paper, we study this problem in homogeneous Finsler geometry, and get a positive answer when the dimension is even or the metric is reversible. We guess the rank inequality and algebraic techniques in this paper may continue to play an important role for discussing our question in the non-homogeneous situation., Comment: 29 pages

We show that Stolarsky's invariance principle, known for point distributions on the Euclidean spheres, can be extended to the real, complex, and quaternionic projective spaces and the octonionic projective plane. In this paper, we derive the explicit expressions of two Markov semi-groups constructed by P. Biane in \cite{Bia1} from the restriction of a particular positive definite function on the complex unimodular group $Sl(2,\mathbb{C})$ to two commutative subalgebras of its universal $C^{\star}$-algebra. Our computations use Euclidean Fourier analysis together with the generating function of Laguerre polynomials with index $-1$, and yield absolutely-convergent double series representations of the semi-group densities. In the last part of the paper, we discuss the coincidence, noticed by Biane as well, occurring between the heat kernel on the Heisenberg group and the semi-group corresponding to the intersection of the principal and the complementary series. We establish a Dahlberg-type perturbation theorem for second order divergence form elliptic operators with complex coefficients. In our previous paper, we showed the following result: If ${\mathcal L}_0=\mbox{div} A^0(x)\nabla+B^0(x)\cdot\nabla$ is a $p$-elliptic operator satisfying certain Carleson condition on $\nabla A$ and $B$ then the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the operator ${\mathcal L}_0$ is solvable in the upper half-space ${\mathbb R}^n_+$. In this paper we prove that the $L^p$ solvability is stable under small perturbations of ${\mathcal L}_0$. That is if ${\mathcal L}_1$ is another divergence form elliptic operator with complex coefficients and the coefficients of the operators ${\mathcal L}_0$ and ${\mathcal L}_1$ are sufficiently close in the sense of Carleson measures (considering the differences of coefficients), then the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the operator ${\mathcal L}_1$ is solvable for the same value of $p$. As a corollary we obtain a new result on $L^p$ solvability of the Dirichlet problem for operators of the form ${\mathcal L}=\mbox{div} A(x)\nabla+B(x)\cdot\nabla$ where the matrix $A$ satisfies weaker Carleson condition than in our earlier paper; in particular the coefficients of $A$ need no longer be differentiable and instead satisfy a Carleson condition that controls the oscillation of the matrix $A$ over Whitney boxes. This paper provides a systematic study of fundamental combinatorial properties of one-dimensional, two-sided infinite simple Toeplitz subshifts. Explicit formulas for the complexity function, the palindrome complexity function and the repetitivity function are proven. Moreover, a complete description of the de Bruijn graphs of the subshifts is given. Finally, the Boshernitzan condition is characterised in terms of combinatorial quantities, based on a recent result of Liu and Qu. Particular simple characterisations are provided for simple Toeplitz subshifts that correspond to the orbital Schreier graphs of the family of Grigorchuk's groups, a class of subshifts that serves as main example throughout the paper., Comment: Minor corrections in the proofs of Proposition 3.4 and 5.4; results unchanged. Associated with each finite subgroup $\Gamma $ of ${\textrm {SL}}_2({\mathbb {C}})$ there is a family of noncommutative algebras $O_\tau (\Gamma )$ quantizing ${\mathbb {C}}^2/\!\!/\Gamma $. Let $G_\Gamma $ be the group of $\Gamma $-equivariant automorphisms of $O_\tau $. In [16], one of the authors defined and studied a natural action of $G_\Gamma $ on certain quiver varieties associated with $\Gamma $. He established a $G_\Gamma $-equivariant bijective correspondence between quiver varieties and the space of isomorphism classes of $O_\tau $-ideals. In this paper we prove that the action of $G_\Gamma $ on the quiver variety is transitive when $\Gamma $ is a cyclic group. This generalizes an earlier result due to Berest and Wilson who showed the transitivity of the automorphism group of the 1st Weyl algebra on the Calogero–Moser spaces. Our result has two important implications. First, it confirms the Bocklandt–Le Bruyn conjecture for cyclic quiver varieties. Second, it will be used to give a complete classification of algebras Morita equivalent to $O_\tau (\Gamma ),$ thus answering the question of Hodges. At the end of the introduction we explain why the result of this paper does not extend when $\Gamma $ is not cyclic.

While there has been considerable interest in the problem of finding elliptic curves of high rank over $\mathbb{Q}$, very few parametrized families of elliptic curves of generic rank $\geq 8$ have been published. In this paper we use solutions of certain symmetric diophantine systems to construct several parametrized families of elliptic curves with their generic ranks ranging from at least 8 to at least 12. Specific numerical values of the parameters yield elliptic curves with quite large coefficients and we could therefore determine the precise rank only in a few cases where the rank of the elliptic curve $\leq 13$. It is, however, expected that the parametrized families of elliptic curves obtained in this paper would yield examples of elliptic curves with much higher rank., Comment: 25 pages

Given a finite collection of $C^1$ vector fields on a $C^2$ manifold which span the tangent space at every point, we consider the question of when there is locally a coordinate system in which these vector fields are real analytic. We give necessary and sufficient, coordinate-free conditions for the existence of such a coordinate system. Moreover, we present a quantitative study of these coordinate charts. This is the third part in a three-part series of papers. The first part, joint with Stovall, lay the groundwork for the coordinate system we use in this paper and showed how such coordinate charts can be viewed as scaling maps for sub-Riemannian geometry.
