We characterize functions of finite energy in the plane in terms of their traces on the lines that make up "graph paper" with squares of side length $mn$ for all $n$, and certain $\12-$order Sobolev norms on the graph paper lines. We also obtain analogous results for functions of finite energy on two classical fractals: the Sierpinski gasket and the Sierpinski carpet.

In this short paper I consider relation between measurements, numbers and p-adic mathematical physics. p-Adic numbers are not result of measurements, but nevertheless they play significant role in description of some systems and phenomena. We illustrate their ability for applications referring to some sectors of p-adic mathematical physics and related topics, in particular, to string theory and the genetic code., Comment: 13 pages

In this short note we show that non-negative Ricci curvature is not preserved under Ricci flow for closed manifolds of dimensions four and above, strengthening a previous result of Knopf in \cite{K} for complete non-compact manifolds of bounded curvature. This brings down to four dimensions a similar result B\"ohm and Wilking have for dimensions twelve and above, \cite{BW}. In 1981, Foias, Guillop\'e and Temam proved a priori estimates for arbitrary-order space derivatives of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. Such bounds are instructive in the numerical investigation of intermittency often observed in simulations, e.g., numerical study of vorticity moments by Donzis et al. (2013) revealed depletion of nonlinearity that may be responsible for smoothness of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. We employ an original method to derive analogous estimates for space derivatives of three-dimensional space-periodic weak solutions to the evolutionary equations of diffusive magnetohydrodynamics. Construction relies on space analyticity of the solutions at almost all times. An auxiliary problem is introduced, and a Sobolev norm of its solutions bounds from below the size in $C^3$ of the region of space analyticity of the solutions to the original problem. We recover the exponents obtained earlier for the hydrodynamic problem. The same approach is also followed here to derive and prove similar a priori bounds for arbitrary-order space derivatives of the first-order time derivative of the weak MHD solutions. A nonlinear Markov chain is a discrete time stochastic process whose transitions depend on both the current state and the current distribution of the process. The nonlinear Markov chain over an infinite state space can be identified by a continuous mapping (the so-called nonlinear Markov operator) defined on a set of all probability distributions (which is a simplex). In the present paper, we consider a continuous analogue of the mentioned mapping acting on L 1 -spaces. Main aim of the current paper is to investigate projective surjectivity of quadratic stochastic operators (QSO) acting on the set of all probability measures. To prove the main result, we study the surjectivity of infinite dimensional nonlinear Markov operators and apply them to the projective surjectivity of the considered QSO. Furthermore, the obtained results are applied to the existence of the positive solution of some Hammerstein integral equations.

Several results in the existing literature establish Euclidean density theorems of the following strong type. These results claim that every set of positive upper Banach density in the Euclidean space of an appropriate dimension contains isometric copies of all sufficiently large elements of a prescribed family of finite point configurations. So far, all results of this type discussed linear isotropic dilates of a fixed point configuration. In this paper we initiate the study of analogous density theorems for families of point configurations generated by anisotropic dilations, i.e., families with power-type dependence on a single parameter interpreted as their size. More specifically, here we prove nonisotropic power-type generalizations of a result by Bourgain on vertices of a simplex, a result by Lyall and Magyar on vertices of a rectangular box, and a result on distance trees, which is a particular case of the treatise of distance graphs by Lyall and Magyar. Another source of motivation for this paper is providing additional evidence for the versatility of the approach stemming from the work of Cook, Magyar, and Pramanik and its modification used recently by Durcik and the present author. We consider a class of tempered subordinators, namely a class of subordinators with one-dimensional marginal tempered distributions which belong to a family studied in [3]. The main contribution in this paper is a non-central moderate deviations result. More precisely we mean a class of large deviation principles that fill the gap between the (trivial) weak convergence of some non-Gaussian identically distributed random variables to their common law, and the convergence of some other related random variables to a constant. Some other minor results concern large deviations for the inverse of the tempered subordinators considered in this paper; actually, in some results, these inverse processes appear as random time-changes of other independent processes.

We prove that ascending HNN extensions of free groups are word-hyperbolic if and only if they have no Baumslag-Solitar subgroups. This extends the theorem of Brinkmann that free-by-cyclic groups are word-hyperbolic if and only if they have no free abelian subgroups of rank 2. The paper is split into two independent parts: 1) We study the dynamics of injective nonsurjective endomorphisms of free groups. We prove a canonical structure theorem that initializes the development of improved relative train tracks for endomorphisms; this structure theorem is of independent interest since it makes many open questions about injective endomorphisms tractable. 2) As an application of the structure theorem, we are able to (relatively) combine Brinkmann's theorem with our previous work and obtain the main result stated above. We study in detail the so-called Chow-weight homology of Voevodsky motivic complexes and relate it to motivic homology. We generalize earlier results and prove that the vanishing of higher motivic homology groups of a motif $M$ implies similar vanishing for its Chow-weight homology along with effectivity properties of the higher terms of its weight complex $t(M)$ and of higher Deligne weight quotients of its cohomology. Applying this statement to motives with compact support we obtain a similar relation between the vanishing of Chow groups and the cohomology with compact support of varieties. Moreover, we prove that if higher motivic homology groups of a geometric motif or a variety over a universal domain are torsion (in a certain "range") then the exponents of these groups are uniformly bounded. To prove our main results we study Voevodsky slices of motives. Since the slice functors do not respect the compactness of motives, the results of the previous Chow-weight homology paper are not sufficient for our purposes; this is our main reason to extend them to ($w_{Chow}$-bounded below) motivic complexes., Comment: This a new paper on Chow-weight homology; thus it is closely related to extending the decomposition of the diagonal theory to Voevodsky motives. In this paper, using computations done through the LiE software, we compare the tensor product of irreducible selfdual representations of the special linear group with those of classical groups to formulate some conjectures relating the two. In the process a few other phenomenon present themselves which we record as questions. More precisely, under the natural correspondence of irreducible finite dimensional selfdual representations of ${\rm SL}_{2n}({\mathbb C})$ with those of ${\rm Spin}_{2n+1}({\mathbb C})$, it is easy to see that if the tensor product of three irreducible representations of ${\rm Spin}_{2n+1}({\rm C})$ contains the trivial representation, then so does the tensor product of the corresponding representations of ${\rm SL}_{2n}({\rm C})$. The paper formulates a conjecture in the reverse direction. We also deal with the pair $({\rm SL}_{2n+1}({\rm C}), {\rm Sp}_{2n}({\rm C}))$., Comment: Revised version!

This is the first of two papers which attempt to comprehensively analyse superdeterministic hidden-variables models of Bell correlations. We first give an overview of superdeterminism and discuss various criticisms of it raised in the literature. We argue that the most common criticism, the violation of `free-will', is incorrect. We take up Bell's intuitive criticism that these models are `conspiratorial'. To develop this further, we introduce nonequilibrium extensions of superdeterministic models. We show that the measurement statistics of these extended models depend on the physical system used to determine the measurement settings. This suggests a fine-tuning in order to eliminate this dependence from experimental observation. We also study the signalling properties of these extended models. We show that although they generally violate the formal no-signalling constraints, this violation cannot be equated to an actual signal. We therefore suggest that the so-called no-signalling constraints be more appropriately named the marginal-independence constraints. We discuss the mechanism by which marginal-independence is violated in superdeterministic models. Lastly, we consider a hypothetical scenario where two experimenters use the apparent-signalling of a superdeterministic model to communicate with each other. This scenario suggests another conspiratorial feature peculiar to superdeterminism. These suggestions are quantitatively developed in the second paper., Comment: Post-print version

We consider the cases where there is equality in Courant’s nodal domain theorem for the Laplacian with a Robin boundary condition on the square. In our previous two papers, we treated the cases where the Robin parameter h > 0 is large, small respectively. In this paper we investigate the case where h < 0.

In this paper we consider interpolation problem connected with series by integer shifts of Gaussians. Known approaches for these problems met numerical difficulties. Due to it another method is considered based on finite-rank approximations by linear systems. The main result for this approach is to establish correctness of the finite-rank linear system under consideration. And the main result of the paper is to prove correctness of the finite-rank linear system approximation. For that an explicit formula for the main determinant of the linear system is derived to demonstrate that it is non-zero., Comment: 12 pages

In this paper, we construct and study a semigroup associated to an action of a countable discrete group on a compact Hausdorff space that can be regarded as a higher dimensional generalization of the type semigroup. We study when this semigroup is almost unperforated. This leads to a new characterization of dynamical comparison and thus answers a question of Kerr and Schafhauser. In addition, this paper suggests a definition of comparison for dynamical systems in which neither the acting group is necessarily amenable nor the action is minimal.

Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic. If $M$ is a finite dimensional $G$-module that is projective over the Frobenius kernel of $G$, then its character is divisible by the character of the Steinberg module. We continue our study, initiated in our earlier paper, of Riemann surfaces with constant curvature and isolated conic singularities. Using the machinery developed in that earlier paper of extended configuration families of simple divisors, we study the existence and deformation theory for spherical conic metrics with some or all of the cone angles greater than $2\pi$. Deformations are obstructed precisely when the number $2$ lies in the spectrum of the Friedrichs extension of the Laplacian. Our main result is that, in this case, it is possible to find a smooth local moduli space of solutions by allowing the cone points to split. Nielsen realization problem for the mapping class group $\text{Mod}(S_g)$ asks whether the natural projection $p_g: \text{Homeo}_+(S_g)\to \text{Mod}(S_g)$ has a section. While all the previous results use torsion elements in an essential way, in this paper, we focus on the much more difficult problem of realization of torsion-free subgroups of $\text{Mod}(S_g)$. In this paper, we generalize the push-forward (Gysin) formulas for flag bundles in the ordinary cohomology theory, which are due to Darondeau-Pragacz, to the complex cobordism theory. In this paper we analyze Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on a finite cover $G$ of an adelic split simply-laced group. Let $\pi$ be a minimal or next-to-minimal automorphic representation of $G$. We prove that any $\eta\in \pi$ is completely determined by its Whittaker coefficients with respect to (possibly degenerate) characters of the unipotent radical of a fixed Borel subgroup, analogously to the Piatetski-Shapiro--Shalika formula for cusp forms on $GL_n$. We also derive explicit formulas expressing the form, as well as all its maximal parabolic Fourier coefficient in terms of these Whittaker coefficients. A consequence of our results is the non-existence of cusp forms in the minimal and next-to-minimal automorphic spectrum. A linear equation with coefficients in $\mathbb{F}_q$ is common if the number of monochromatic solutions in any two-coloring of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is asymptotically (as $n \to \infty$) at least the number expected in a random two-coloring. The linear equation is Sidorenko if the number of solutions in any dense subset of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is asymptotically at least the number expected in a random set of the same density. In this paper, we characterize those linear equations which are common, and those which are Sidorenko. The main novelty is a construction based on choosing random Fourier coefficients that shows that certain linear equations do not have these properties. The Ichino–Ikeda conjecture, and its generalization to unitary groups by N. Harris, gives explicit formulas for central critical values of a large class of Rankin–Selberg tensor products. The latter conjecture has been proved in full generality and applies to L-values of the form L(12,BC(π)× BC(π′)), where π and π′ are cohomological automorphic representations of unitary groups U(V) and U(V′), respectively. Here V and V′ are hermitian spaces over a CM field, V of dimension n, V′ of codimension 1 in V, and BC denotes the twisted base change to GL(n)× GL(n−1). This paper contains the first steps toward constructing a p-adic interpolation of the normalized square roots of these L-values, generalizing the construction in my paper with Tilouine on triple product L-functions. It will be assumed that the CM field is imaginary quadratic, π is a holomorphic representation and π′ varies in an ordinary Hida family (of antiholomorphic forms). The construction of the measure attached to π uses recent work of Eischen, Fintzen, Mantovan, and Varma.

In this paper, we present a further generalization of the bi-periodic Fibonacci quaternions and octonions. We give the generating function, the Binet formula, and some basic properties of these quaternions and octonions. The results of this paper not only give a generalization of the bi-periodic Fibonacci quaternions and octonions, but also include new results such as the matrix representation and the norm value of the generalized bi-periodic Fibonacci sequence. © 2019 Novi Sad Journal of Mathematics. A central question in General Relativity (GR) is how to determine whether singularities are geometrical properties of spacetime, or simply anomalies of a coordinate system used to parameterize the spacetime. In particular, it is an open problem whether there always exist coordinate transformations which smooth a gravitational metric to optimal regularity, two full derivatives above the curvature tensor, or whether regularity singularities exist. We resolve this open problem above a threshold level of smoothness by proving in this paper that the existence of such coordinate transformations is equivalent to solving a system of nonlinear elliptic equations in the unknown Jacobian and transformed connection, both viewed as matrix valued differential forms. We name these the Regularity Transformation equations, or RT-equations. In a companion paper we prove existence of solutions to the RT-equations for connections $\Gamma\in W^{m,p},$ curvature ${\rm Riem}(\Gamma) \in W^{m,p}$, assuming $m\geq1$, $p>n$. Taken together, these results imply that there always exist coordinate transformations which smooth arbitrary connections to optimal regularity, (one derivative more regular than the curvature), and there are no regularity singularities, above the threshold $m\geq1$, $p>n$. In the present paper, which is a direct sequel of our paper [12] joint with Roozbeh Hazrat, we prove unrelativised version of the standard commutator formula in the setting of Chevalley groups. Namely, let $\Phi$ be a reduced irreducible root system of rank $\ge 2$, let $R$ be a commutative ring and let $I,J$ be two ideals of $R$. We consider subgroups of the Chevalley group $G(\Phi,R)$ of type $\Phi$ over $R$. The unrelativised elementary subgroup $E(\Phi,I)$ of level $I$ is generated (as a group) by the elementary unipotents $x_{\alpha}(\xi)$, $\alpha\in\Phi$, $\xi\in I$, of level $I$. Obviously, in general $E(\Phi,I)$ has no chances to be normal in $E(\Phi,R)$, its normal closure in the absolute elementary subgroup $E(\Phi,R)$ is denoted by $E(\Phi,R,I)$. The main results of [12] implied that the commutator $\big[E(\Phi,I),E(\Phi,J)]$ is in fact normal in $E(\Phi,R)$. In the present paper we prove an unexpected result that in fact $\big[E(\Phi,I),E(\Phi,J)]=\big[E(\Phi,R,I),E(\Phi,R,J)\big]$. It follows that the standard commutator formula also holds in the unrelativised form, namely $\big[E(\Phi,I),C(\Phi,R,J)]=\big[E(\Phi,I),E(\Phi,J)\big]$, where $C(\Phi,R,I)$ is the full congruence subgroup of level $I$. In this paper, we give lower bounds for the homology of the fibers of a map to a manifold. Using new sheaf theoretic methods, we show that these lower bounds persist over whole open sets of the manifold, and that they are stable under perturbations of the map. In a prior paper, the author generalized the classical factor theorem of Sinai to actions of arbitrary countably infinite groups. In the present paper, we use this theorem and the techniques of its proof in order to study connections between positive entropy phenomena and the Koopman representation. Following the line of work initiated by Hayes for sofic entropy, we show in a certain precise manner that all positive entropy must come from portions of the Koopman representation that embed into the left-regular representation. By combining this result with the generalized factor theorem of the previous paper, we conclude that for actions having completely positive outer entropy, the Koopman representation must be isomorphic to the countable direct sum of the left-regular representation. This generalizes a theorem of Dooley--Golodets for countable amenable groups. As a final consequence, we observe that actions with completely positive outer entropy must be mixing, and when the group is non-amenable they must be strongly ergodic and have spectral gap. We also prove generalizations of these results that apply relative to sub-$\sigma$-algebras and apply to non-free actions.

In this paper, we study convergence of coupled dynamical systems on convergent sequences of graphs to a continuum limit. We show that the solutions of the initial value problem for the dynamical system on a convergent graph sequence tend to that for the nonlocal diffusion equation on a unit interval, as the graph size tends to infinity. We improve our earlier results in [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., 21 (2014), pp. 781--803] and extend them to a larger class of graphs, which includes directed and undirected, sparse and dense, random and deterministic graphs. There are three main ingredients of our approach. First, we employ a flexible framework for incorporating random graphs into the models of interacting dynamical systems, which fits seamlessly with the derivation of the continuum limit. Next, we prove the averaging principle for approximating a dynamical system on a random graph by its deterministic (averaged) counterpart. The proof covers systems on sparse graphs and yields almost sure convergence on time intervals of order $\log n,$ where $n$ is the number of vertices. Finally, a Galerkin scheme is developed to show convergence of the averaged model to the continuum limit. In this paper, we investigate sharp damping estimates for a class of one dimensional oscillatory integral operators with real-analytic phases. By establishing endpoint estimates for suitably damped oscillatory integral operators, we are able to give a new proof of the sharp $L^p$ estimates which have been proved by Xiao in Endpoint estimates for one-dimensional oscillatory integral operators, \emph{Advances in Mathematics}, \textbf{316}, 255-291 (2017). We establish a Dahlberg-type perturbation theorem for second order divergence form elliptic operators with complex coefficients. In our previous paper, we showed the following result: If ${\mathcal L}_0=\mbox{div} A^0(x)\nabla+B^0(x)\cdot\nabla$ is a $p$-elliptic operator satisfying certain Carleson condition on $\nabla A$ and $B$ then the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the operator ${\mathcal L}_0$ is solvable in the upper half-space ${\mathbb R}^n_+$. In this paper we prove that the $L^p$ solvability is stable under small perturbations of ${\mathcal L}_0$. That is if ${\mathcal L}_1$ is another divergence form elliptic operator with complex coefficients and the coefficients of the operators ${\mathcal L}_0$ and ${\mathcal L}_1$ are sufficiently close in the sense of Carleson measures (considering the differences of coefficients), then the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the operator ${\mathcal L}_1$ is solvable for the same value of $p$. As a corollary we obtain a new result on $L^p$ solvability of the Dirichlet problem for operators of the form ${\mathcal L}=\mbox{div} A(x)\nabla+B(x)\cdot\nabla$ where the matrix $A$ satisfies weaker Carleson condition than in our earlier paper; in particular the coefficients of $A$ need no longer be differentiable and instead satisfy a Carleson condition that controls the oscillation of the matrix $A$ over Whitney boxes. This paper provides a systematic study of fundamental combinatorial properties of one-dimensional, two-sided infinite simple Toeplitz subshifts. Explicit formulas for the complexity function, the palindrome complexity function and the repetitivity function are proven. Moreover, a complete description of the de Bruijn graphs of the subshifts is given. Finally, the Boshernitzan condition is characterised in terms of combinatorial quantities, based on a recent result of Liu and Qu. Particular simple characterisations are provided for simple Toeplitz subshifts that correspond to the orbital Schreier graphs of the family of Grigorchuk's groups, a class of subshifts that serves as main example throughout the paper., Comment: Minor corrections in the proofs of Proposition 3.4 and 5.4; results unchanged. Associated with each finite subgroup $\Gamma $ of ${\textrm {SL}}_2({\mathbb {C}})$ there is a family of noncommutative algebras $O_\tau (\Gamma )$ quantizing ${\mathbb {C}}^2/\!\!/\Gamma $. Let $G_\Gamma $ be the group of $\Gamma $-equivariant automorphisms of $O_\tau $. In [16], one of the authors defined and studied a natural action of $G_\Gamma $ on certain quiver varieties associated with $\Gamma $. He established a $G_\Gamma $-equivariant bijective correspondence between quiver varieties and the space of isomorphism classes of $O_\tau $-ideals. In this paper we prove that the action of $G_\Gamma $ on the quiver variety is transitive when $\Gamma $ is a cyclic group. This generalizes an earlier result due to Berest and Wilson who showed the transitivity of the automorphism group of the 1st Weyl algebra on the Calogero–Moser spaces. Our result has two important implications. First, it confirms the Bocklandt–Le Bruyn conjecture for cyclic quiver varieties. Second, it will be used to give a complete classification of algebras Morita equivalent to $O_\tau (\Gamma ),$ thus answering the question of Hodges. At the end of the introduction we explain why the result of this paper does not extend when $\Gamma $ is not cyclic.

This decomposition enables us to classify such $n$-tuples up to unitary equivalence. We show that the joint listing of a unitary equivalence class of a representation of each of the $2^n$ non-commutative tori that are naturally associated with the structure constants is a classifying invariant. In this paper, we study the $H^s$-stability of the log-log blowup regime (which has been completely described in a series of recent works by Merle and Raphael) for the focusing mass-critical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations $i\partial_tu+\Delta u+|u|^\frac4du=0$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d\geq3$. Let $(M,\theta)$ be a compact strictly pseudoconvex pseudohermitian manifold which is CR embedded into a complex space. In an earlier paper, Lin and the authors gave several sharp upper bounds for the first positive eigenvalue $\lambda_1$ of the Kohn-Laplacian $\Box_b$ on $(M,\theta)$. In the present paper, we give a sharp upper bound for $\lambda_1$, generalizing and extending some previous results. As a corollary, we obtain a Reilly-type estimate when $M$ is embedded into the standard sphere. In another direction, using a Lichnerowicz-type estimate by Chanillo, Chiu, and Yang and an explicit formula for the Webster scalar curvature, we give a lower bound for $\lambda_1$ when the pseudohermitian structure $\theta$ is volume-normalized., Comment: 11 pages

Jim Propp recently introduced a variant of chip-firing on a line where the chips are given distinct integer labels. Hopkins, McConville, and Propp showed that this process is confluent from some (but not all) initial configurations of chips. We recast their set-up in terms of root systems: labeled chip-firing can be seen as a root-firing process which allows the moves $\lambda \to \lambda + \alpha$ for $\alpha\in \Phi^{+}$ whenever $\langle\lambda,\alpha^\vee\rangle = 0$, where $\Phi^{+}$ is the set of positive roots of a root system of Type A and $\lambda$ is a weight of this root system. We are thus motivated to study the exact same root-firing process for an arbitrary root system. Actually, this central root-firing process is the subject of a sequel to this paper. In the present paper, we instead study the interval root-firing processes determined by $\lambda \to \lambda + \alpha$ for $\alpha\in \Phi^{+}$ whenever $\langle\lambda,\alpha^\vee\rangle \in [-k-1,k-1]$ or $\langle\lambda,\alpha^\vee\rangle \in [-k,k-1]$, for any $k \geq 0$. We prove that these interval-firing processes are always confluent, from any initial weight. We also show that there is a natural way to consistently label the stable points of these interval-firing processes across all values of $k$ so that the number of weights with given stabilization is a polynomial in $k$. Let $(R,\frak m)$ be a commutative noetherian local ring. In this paper, we prove that if $\frak m$ is decomposable, then for any finitely generated $R$-module $M$ of infinite projective dimension $\frak m$ is a direct summand of (a direct sum of) syzygies of $M$. Applying this result to the case where $\frak m$ is quasi-decomposable, we obtain several classfications of subcategories, including a complete classification of the thick subcategories of the singularity category of $R$., Comment: 18 pages. In the recent paper [Yan, Z.: Existence of homogeneous geodesics on homogeneous Finsler spaces of odd dimension, Monatsh. Math. 182,1, 165–171 (2017)], it was claimed that any homogeneous Finsler space of odd dimension admits a homogeneous geodesic through any point. However, the proof contains a serious gap. The situation is a bit delicate, because the statement is correct. In the present paper, the incorrect part in this proof is indicated. Further, it is shown that homogeneous geodesics in homogeneous Finsler spaces can be studied by another method developed in earlier works by the author for homogeneous affine manifolds. This method is adapted for Finsler geometry and the statement is proved correctly.

The paper provides a description of the sheaves of K\"ahler differentials of the arc space and jet schemes of an arbitrary scheme where these sheaves are computed directly from the sheaf of differentials of the given scheme. In a series of papers [Pan0], [Pan1], [Pan2], [Pan3] we give a detailed and better structured proof of the Grothendieck--Serre's conjecture for semi-local regular rings containing a finite field. The outline of the proof is the same as in [P1],[P2],[P3]. If the semi-local regular ring contains an infinite field, then the conjecture is proved in [FP]. Thus the conjecture is true for regular local rings containing a field. The present paper is the one [Pan1] in that new series. Theorem 1.1 is one of the main result of the paper. It is also one of the key steps in the proof of the Grothendieck--Serre's conjecture for semi-local regular rings containing a field (see [Pan3]). Let $G$ be a simple and simply connected algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic $p>0$. Assume that $p$ is good for the root system of $G$ and that the covering map $G_{sc} \rightarrow G$ is separable. In previous work we proved the existence of a (not necessarily unique) Springer isomorphism for $G$ that behaved like the exponential map on the resticted nullcone of $G$. In the present paper we give a formal definition of these maps, which we call `generalized exponential maps.' We provide an explicit and uniform construction of such maps for all root systems, demonstrate their existence over $\mathbb{Z}_{(p)}$, and give a complete parameterization of all such maps. One application is that this gives a uniform approach to dealing with the "saturation problem" for a unipotent element $u$ in $G$, providing a new proof of the known result that $u$ lies inside a subgroup of $C_G(u)$ that is isomorphic to a truncated Witt group. We also develop a number of other explicit and new computations for $\mathfrak{g}$ and for $G$. This paper grew out of an attempt to answer a series of questions posed to us by P. We extend the classical Fuller index, and use this to prove that for a certain general class of vector fields $X$ on a compact smooth manifold, if a homotopy of smooth non-singular vector fields starting at $X$ has no sky catastrophes as defined by the paper, then the time 1 limit of the homotopy has periodic orbits. This class of vector fields includes the Hopf vector field on $S ^{2k+1} $. A sky catastrophe, is a kind of bifurcation originally discovered by Fuller. This answers a natural question that existed since the time of Fuller's foundational papers. The cohesion-tension theory expounds the crude sap ascent thanks to the negative pressure generated by evaporation of water from leaves. Nevertheless, trees pose multiple challenges and seem to live in unphysical conditions: the negative pressure increases cavitation; it is possible to obtain a water equilibrium between connected parts where one is at a positive pressure and the other one is at negative pressure; no theory is able to satisfactorily account for the refilling of vessels after embolism events. A theoretical form of our paper in the Journal of Theoretical Biology is proposed together with new results: a continuum mechanics model of the disjoining pressure concept refers to the Derjaguin School of physical chemistry. A comparison between liquid behaviour both in tight-filled microtubes and in liquid thin-films is offered when the pressure is negative in liquid bulks and is positive in liquid thin-films and vapour bulks. In embolized xylem microtubes, when the air-vapour pocket pressure is greater than the air-vapour bulk pressure, a refilling flow occurs between the air-vapour domains to empty the air-vapour pockets although the liquid-bulk pressure remains negative. The model has a limit of validity taking the maximal size of trees into account. These results drop inkling that the disjoining pressure is an efficient tool to study biological liquids in contact with substrates at a nanoscale range., Comment: The paper is a review and overlap of my different papers about the watering of trees as a mathematical development of my paper in The Journal of Theoretical Biology. In this paper, we extend Lotay-Wei's Shi-type estimate from Laplacian flow to more general flows of G$_2$ structures including the modified Laplacian co-flow. Then we prove a version of $\kappa$-non-collapsing theorem. In this paper we study curvature types of immersed surfaces in three-dimensional (normed or) Minkowski spaces. By endowing the surface with a normal vector field, which is a transversal vector field given by the ambient Birkhoff orthogonality, we get an analogue of the Gauss map. Then we can define concepts of principal, Gaussian, and mean curvatures in terms of the eigenvalues of the differential of this map. Considering planar sections containing the normal field, we also define normal curvatures at each point of the surface, and with respect to each tangent direction. We investigate the relations between these curvature types. Further on we prove that, under an additional hypothesis, a compact, connected surface without boundary whose Minkowski Gaussian curvature is constant must be a Minkowski sphere. Since existing literature on the subject of our paper is widely scattered, in the introductory part also a survey of related results is given.

We investigate the large $n$ asymptotics of the $n$-th eigenvalue for a class of unbounded self-adjoint operators defined by infinite Jacobi matrices with discrete spectrum. In the case of the quantum Rabi model we obtain the first three terms of the asymptotics which determine the parameters of the model. It is an important problem in differential geometry to find non-naturally reductive homogeneous Einstein metrics on homogeneous manifolds. In this paper, we consider this problem for some coset spaces of compact simple Lie groups. A new method to construct invariant non-naturally reductive Einstein metrics on normal homogeneous Einstein manifolds is presented. In particular, we show that on the standard homogeneous Einstein manifolds, except for some special cases, there exist plenty of such metrics. A further interesting result of this paper is that on some compact semisimple Lie groups, there exist a large number of left invariant non-naturally reductive Einstein metrics which are not product metrics., Comment: 29 pages

In this paper we consider the Prym map for double coverings of curves of genus $g$ ramified at $r>0$ points. That is, the map associating to a double ramified covering its Prym variety. The generic Torelli theorem states that the Prym map is generically injective as soon as the dimension of the space of coverings is less or equal to the dimension of the space of polarized abelian varieties. We prove the generic injectivity of the Prym map in the cases of double coverings of curves with: (a) $g=2$, $r=6$, and (b) $g= 5$, $r=2$. In the first case the proof is constructive and can be extended to the range $r\ge \max \{6,\frac 23(g+2) \}$. For (b) we study the fibre along the locus of the intermediate Jacobians of cubic threefolds to conclude the generic injectivity. This completes the work of Marcucci and Pirola who proved this theorem for all the other cases, except for the bielliptic case $g=1$ (solved later by Marcucci and the first author), and the case $g=3, r=4$ considered previously by Nagaraj and Ramanan, and also by Bardelli, Ciliberto and Verra where the degree of the map is $3$. In this survey paper, we give an overview of our recent works on the study of the $W$-entropy for the heat equation associated with the Witten Laplacian on super-Ricci flows and the Langevin deformation on Wasserstein space over Riemannian manifolds. Inspired by Perelman's seminal work on the entropy formula for the Ricci flow, we prove the $W$-entropy formula for the heat equation associated with the Witten Laplacian on $n$-dimensional complete Riemannian manifolds with the $CD(K, m)$-condition, and the $W$-entropy formula for the heat equation associated with the time dependent Witten Laplacian on $n$-dimensional compact manifolds equipped with a $(K, m)$-super Ricci flow, where $K\in \mathbb{R}$ and $m\in [n, \infty]$. Furthermore, we prove an analogue of the $W$-entropy formula for the geodesic flow on the Wasserstein space over Riemannian manifolds. Our result recaptures an important result due to Lott and Villani on the displacement convexity of the Boltzmann-Shannon entropy on Riemannian manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature. To better understand the similarity between above two $W$-entropy formulas, we introduce the Langevin deformation of geometric flows on the cotangent bundle over the Wasserstein space and prove an extension of the $W$-entropy formula for the Langevin deformation. Finally, we make a discussion on the $W$-entropy for the Ricci flow from the point of view of statistical mechanics and probability theory., Comment: Survey paper. In the first part of this paper, we consider, in the context of an arbitrary hyperplane arrangement, the map between compactly supported cohomology to the usual cohomology of a local system. A formula (i.e., an explicit algebraic de Rham representative) for a generalized version of this map is obtained. These results are applied in the second part to invariant theory: Schechtman and Varchenko connect invariant theoretic objects to the cohomology of local systems on complements of hyperplane arrangements. The first part of this paper is then used, following and completing arguments of Looijenga, to determine the image of invariants in cohomology. In suitable cases (e.g., corresponding to positive integral levels), the space of invariants is shown to acquire a mixed Hodge structure over a cyclotomic field. We investigate the Hodge filtration on the space of invariants, and characterize the subspace of conformal blocks in Hodge theoretic terms., Comment: 37 pages, comments are welcome
