One of the simplest examples of a robust heteroclinic cycle involves three saddle equilibria: each one is unstable to the next in turn, and connections from one to the next occur within invariant subspaces. Such a situation can be described by a third-order ordinary differential equation (ODE), and typical trajectories approach each equilibrium point in turn, spending progressively longer to cycle around the three points but never stopping. This cycle has been invoked as a model of cyclic competition between populations adopting three strategies, characterised as Rock, Paper and Scissors. When spatial distribution and mobility of the populations is taken into account, waves of Rock can invade regions of Scissors, only to be invaded by Paper in turn. The dynamics is described by a set of partial differential equations (PDEs) that has travelling wave (in one dimension) and spiral (in two dimensions) solutions. In this paper, we explore how the robust heteroclinic cycle in the ODE manifests itself in the PDEs. Taking the wavespeed as a parameter, and moving into a travelling frame, the PDEs reduce to a sixth-order set of ODEs, in which travelling waves are created in a Hopf bifurcation and are destroyed in three different heteroclinic bifurcations, depending on parameters, as the travelling wave approaches the heteroclinic cycle. We explore the three different heteroclinic bifurcations, none of which have been observed in the context of robust heteroclinic cycles previously. Funder: John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation; doi: https://doi.org/10.13039/100005851, In this work we study the global solvability of the primitive equations for the atmosphere coupled to moisture dynamics with phase changes for warm clouds, where water is present in the form of water vapor and in the liquid state as cloud water and rain water. This moisture model contains closures for the phase changes condensation and evaporation, as well as the processes of auto conversion of cloud water into rainwater and the collection of cloud water by the falling rain droplets. It has been used by Klein and Majda in [17] and corresponds to a basic form of the bulk microphysics closure in the spirit of Kessler [16] and Grabowski and Smolarkiewicz [12]. The moisture balances are strongly coupled to the thermodynamic equation via the latent heat associated to the phase changes. In [14] we assumed the velocity field to be given and proved rigorously the global existence and uniqueness of uniformly bounded solutions of the moisture balances coupled to the thermodynamic equation. In this paper we present the solvability of a full moist atmospheric flow model, where the moisture model is coupled to the primitive equations of atmospherical dynamics governing the velocity field. For the derivation of a priori estimates for the velocity field we thereby use the ideas of Cao and Titi [6], who succeeded in proving the global solvability of the primitive equations.

In this short note we show that non-negative Ricci curvature is not preserved under Ricci flow for closed manifolds of dimensions four and above, strengthening a previous result of Knopf in \cite{K} for complete non-compact manifolds of bounded curvature. This brings down to four dimensions a similar result B\"ohm and Wilking have for dimensions twelve and above, \cite{BW}. We consider 2- or 3-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations defined on a bounded domain $\Omega$, with no-slip boundary conditions and subject to an external force, assumed to cause instability. We then seek to uniformly stabilize such N-S system, in the vicinity of an unstable equilibrium solution, in critical $L^q$-based Sobolev and Besov spaces, by finite dimensional feedback controls. These spaces are `close' to $L^3(\Omega)$ for $d=3$. This functional setting is significant. In fact, in the case of the uncontrolled N-S dynamics, extensive research efforts have recently lead to the space $L^3(\mathbb{R}^3)$ as being a critical space for the issue of well-posedness in the full space. Thus, our present work manages to solve the stated uniform stabilization problem for the controlled N-S dynamics in a correspondingly related function space setting. In this paper, the feedback controls are localized on an arbitrarily small open interior subdomain $\omega$ of $\Omega$. In addition to providing a solution of the uniform stabilization problem in such critical function space setting, this paper manages also to much improve and simplify, at both the conceptual and computational level, the solution given in the more restrictive Hilbert space setting in the literature. Moreover, such treatment sets the foundation for the authors' final goal in a subsequent paper. In 1981, Foias, Guillop\'e and Temam proved a priori estimates for arbitrary-order space derivatives of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. Such bounds are instructive in the numerical investigation of intermittency often observed in simulations, e.g., numerical study of vorticity moments by Donzis et al. (2013) revealed depletion of nonlinearity that may be responsible for smoothness of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. We employ an original method to derive analogous estimates for space derivatives of three-dimensional space-periodic weak solutions to the evolutionary equations of diffusive magnetohydrodynamics. Construction relies on space analyticity of the solutions at almost all times. An auxiliary problem is introduced, and a Sobolev norm of its solutions bounds from below the size in $C^3$ of the region of space analyticity of the solutions to the original problem. We recover the exponents obtained earlier for the hydrodynamic problem. The same approach is also followed here to derive and prove similar a priori bounds for arbitrary-order space derivatives of the first-order time derivative of the weak MHD solutions. This paper deals with the polynomial linear system solving with errors (PLSwE) problem. Specifically, we focus on the evaluation-interpolation technique for solving polynomial linear systems and we assume that errors can occur in the evaluation step. In this framework, the number of evaluations needed to recover the solution of the linear system is crucial since it affects the number of computations. It depends on the parameters of the linear system (degrees, size) and on a bound on the number of errors. Our work is part of a series of papers about PLSwE aiming to reduce this number of evaluations. We proved in [Guerrini et al., Proc. ISIT'19] that if errors are randomly distributed, the bound of the number of evaluations can be lowered for large error rate. In this paper, following the approach of [Kaltofen et al., Proc. ISSAC'17], we improve the results of [Guerrini et al., Proc. ISIT'19] in two directions. First, we propose a new bound of the number of evaluations, lowering the dependency on the parameters of the linear system, based on work of [Cabay, Proc. SYMSAC'71]. Second, we introduce an early termination strategy in order to handle the unnecessary increase of the number of evaluations due to overestimation of the parameters of the system and on the bound on the number of errors.

Transcription and translation retrieve and operationalize gene encoded information in cells. These processes are not instantaneous and incur significant delays. In this paper we study Goodwin models of both inducible and repressible operons with state-dependent delays. The paper provides justification and derivation of the model, detailed analysis of the appropriate setting of the corresponding dynamical system, and extensive numerical analysis of its dynamics. Comparison with constant delay models shows significant differences in dynamics that include existence of stable periodic orbits in inducible systems and multistability in repressible systems. A combination of parameter space exploration, numerics, analysis of steady state linearization and bifurcation theory indicates the likely presence of Shilnikov-type homoclinic bifurcations in the repressible operon model.

In this paper we study evolutive first order Mean Field Games in the Heisenberg group; each agent can move in the whole space but it has to follow "horizontal" trajectories which are given in terms of the vector fields generating the group and the kinetic part of the cost depends only on the horizontal velocity. The Hamiltonian is not coercive in the gradient term and the coefficients of the first order term in the continuity equation may have a quadratic growth at infinity. The main results of this paper are two: the former is to establish the existence of a weak solution to the Mean Field Game systems while the latter is to represent this solution following the Lagrangian formulation of the Mean Field Games. In this paper, the steady creeping flow equations of a second grade fluid in cartesian coordinates are considered; the equations involve a small parameter related to the dimensionless non--Newtonian coefficient. According to a recently introduced approach, the first order approximate Lie symmetries of the equations are computed, some classes of approximately invariant solutions are explicitly determined, and a boundary value problem is analyzed. In this paper we investigate the property (HLUR), a generalisation of (LUR) property of a Banach space. A Banach space having the property (HLUR) is called an HLUR space. We characterise (HLUR) property with the help of known geometric properties and study various properties of HLUR spaces. We show that for any finite dimensional Banach space, the property (HLUR) coincides with anti-Daugavet property of the space. We study numerical integration for a weighted Korobov space of analytic periodic functions for which the Fourier coefficients decay exponentially fast. In particular, we are interested in how the error depends on the dimension d . Many recent papers deal with this problem or similar problems and provide matching necessary and sufficient conditions for various notions of tractability. In most cases even simple algorithms are known which allow to achieve these notions of tractability. However, there is a gap in the literature: while for the notion of exponential-weak tractability one knows matching necessary and sufficient conditions, so far no explicit algorithm has been known which yields the desired result. In this paper we close this gap and prove that Korobov lattice rules are suitable algorithms in order to achieve exponential-weak tractability for integration in weighted Korobov spaces of analytic periodic functions.

This paper is devoted to the study of perturbations of a matrix pencil, structured or unstructured, such that a perturbed pencil will reproduce a given deflating pair while maintaining the invariance of the complementary deflating pair. If the latter is unknown, it is referred to as no spillover updating. The specific structures considered in this paper include symmetric, Hermitian, $\star$-even, $\star$-odd and $\star$-skew-Hamiltonian/Hamiltonian pencils. This study is motivated by the well-known Finite Element Model Updating Problem in structural dynamics, where the given deflating pair represents a set of given eigenpairs and the complementary deflating pair represents the remaining larger set of eigenpairs. Analytical expressions of structure preserving no spillover updating are determined for deflating pairs of structured matrix pencils. Besides, parametric representations of all possible unstructured perturbations are obtained when the complementary deflating pair of a given unstructured pencil is known. In addition, parametric expressions are obtained for structured updating with certain desirable structures which relate to existing results on structure preservation of a symmetric positive definite or semi definite matrix pencil., Comment: 23 pages

This paper studies the asymptotic behavior of coexistence steady-states of the Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto model as both cross-diffusion coefficients tend to infinity at the same rate. In the case when either one of two cross-diffusion coefficients tends to infinity, Lou and Ni [18] derived a couple of limiting systems, which characterize the asymptotic behavior of coexistence steady-states. Recently, a formal observation by Kan-on [10] implied the existence of a limiting system including the nonstationary problem as both cross-diffusion coefficients tend to infinity at the same rate. This paper gives a rigorous proof of his observation as far as the stationary problem. As a key ingredient of the proof, we establish a uniform L ∞ estimate for all steady-states. Thanks to this a priori estimate, we show that the asymptotic profile of coexistence steady-states can be characterized by a solution of the limiting system.

This paper studies two classes of variational problems introduced in Bressan and Sun (On the optimal shape of tree roots and branches. arXiv:1803.01042), related to the optimal shapes of tree roots and branches. Given a measure $$\mu $$ describing the distribution of leaves, a sunlight functional $${\mathcal {S}}(\mu )$$ computes the total amount of light captured by the leaves. For a measure $$\mu $$ describing the distribution of root hair cells, a harvest functional $${\mathcal {H}}(\mu )$$ computes the total amount of water and nutrients gathered by the roots. In both cases, we seek a measure $$\mu $$ that maximizes these functionals subject to a ramified transportation cost, for transporting nutrients from the roots to the trunk or from the trunk to the leaves. Compared with Bressan and Sun, here we do not impose any a priori bound on the total mass of the optimal measure $$\mu $$, and more careful a priori estimates are thus required. In the unconstrained optimization problem for branches, we prove that an optimal measure exists, with bounded support and bounded total mass. In the unconstrained problem for tree roots, we prove that an optimal measure exists, with bounded support but possibly unbounded total mass. The last section of the paper analyzes how the size of the optimal tree depends on the parameters defining the various functionals.

In his PhD thesis, Goosen combined the string-net and the generators-and-relations formalisms for arbitrary once-extended 3-dimensional TQFTs. In this paper we work this out in detail for the simplest non-trivial example, where the underlying spherical fusion category is the category of $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$-graded vector spaces. This allows us to give an elementary string-net description of the linear maps associated to 3-dimensional bordisms. The string-net formalism also simplifies the description of the mapping class group action in the resulting TQFT. This paper aims to develop a system-theoretic approach to ordinary differential equations which deterministically describe dynamics of prevalence of epidemics. The equations are treated as interconnections in which component systems are connected by signals. The notions of integral input-to-state stability (iISS) and input-to-state stability (ISS) have been effective in addressing nonlinearities globally without domain restrictions in analysis and design of control systems. They provide useful tools of module-based methods integrating characteristics of component systems. This paper expresses fundamental properties of models of infectious diseases and vaccination through the language of iISS and ISS of components and whole systems. The systematic treatment is expected to facilitate development of effective schemes of controlling the disease spread via non-conventional Lyapunov functions.

This paper demonstrates input-to-state stability (ISS) of the SIR model of infectious diseases with respect to the disease-free equilibrium and the endemic equilibrium. Lyapunov functions are constructed to verify that both equilibria are individually robust with respect to perturbation of newborn/immigration rate which determines the eventual state of populations in epidemics. The construction and analysis are geometric and global in the space of the populations. In addition to the establishment of ISS, this paper shows how explicitly the constructed level sets reflect the flow of trajectories. Essential obstacles and keys for the construction of Lyapunov functions are elucidated. The proposed Lyapunov functions which have strictly negative derivative allow us to not only establish ISS, but also get rid of the use of LaSalle's invariance principle and popular simplifying assumptions.

International audience; We present a new notion of solution for mean field games master equations. This notion allows us to work with solutions which are merely continuous. We prove first results of uniqueness and stability for such solutions. It turns out that this notion is helpful to characterize the value function of mean field games of optimal stopping or impulse control and this is the topic of the second half of this paper. The notion of solution we introduce is only useful in the monotone case. We focus in this paper in the finite state space case.

In the study of equilibrium solutions for partial differential equations there are so many equilibria that one cannot hope to find them all. Therefore one usually concentrates on finding individual branches of equilibrium solutions. On the one hand, a rigorous theoretical understanding of these branches is ideal but not generally tractable. On the other hand, numerical bifurcation searches are useful but not guaranteed to give an accurate structure, in that they could miss a portion of a branch or find a spurious branch where none exists. In a series of recent papers, we have aimed for a third option. Namely, we have developed a method of computer-assisted proofs to prove both existence and isolation of branches of equilibrium solutions. In the current paper, we extend these techniques to the Ohta-Kawasaki model for the dynamics of diblock copolymers in dimensions one, two, and three, by giving a detailed description of the analytical underpinnings of the method. Although the paper concentrates on applying the method to the Ohta-Kawasaki model, the functional analytic approach and techniques can be generalized to other parabolic partial differential equations.

International audience; We study an equation structured by age and a phenotypic trait describing the growth process of a population subject to aging, competition between individuals, and mutations. This leads to a renewal equation which occurs in many evolutionary biology problems. We aim to describe precisely the asymp-totic behavior of the solution, to infer properties that illustrate the concentration and adaptive dynamics of such a population. This work is a continuation of [38] where the case without mutations is considered. When mutations are taken into account, it is necessary to control the corrector which is the main novelty of the present paper. Our approach consists in defining, by the Hopf transform, a Hamilton-Jacobi equation with an effective Hamiltonian as in homogenization problems. Its solution carries the singular part of the limiting density (typically Dirac masses) and the corrector defines the weights. The main new result of this paper is to prove that the corrector is uniformly bounded, using only the global Lipschitz and semi-convexity estimates for the viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We also establish the limiting equation satisfied by the corrector. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example where such bounds can be proved in such a context.

In the preceding paper, introducing a cutoff, the present author gave a proof of the statement that the transition to a superconducting state is a second-order phase transition in the BCS-Bogoliubov model of superconductivity on the basis of fixed-point theorems, and solved the long-standing problem of the second-order phase transition from the viewpoint of operator theory. In this paper we study the temperature dependence of the specific heat and the critical magnetic field in the model from the viewpoint of operator theory. We first show some properties of the solution to the BCS-Bogoliubov gap equation with respect to the temperature, and give the exact and explicit expression for the gap in the specific heat divided by the specific heat. We then show that it does not depend on superconductors and is a universal constant. We denote the local ``little" Lipschitz constant of a function $f: {{\mathbb R}}\to { {\mathbb R}}$ by $ {\mathrm{lip}}f$. In this paper we settle the following question: For which sets $E {\subset} { {\mathbb R}}$ is it possible to find a continuous function $f$ such that $ {\mathrm{lip}}f=\mathbf{1} _E$? In an earlier paper we introduced the concept of strongly one-sided dense sets. Our main result characterizes $ {\mathrm{lip}}1$ sets as countable unions of closed sets which are strongly one-sided dense. We also show that a stronger statement is not true i.e. there are strongly one-sided dense $F _\sigma$ sets which are not $ {\mathrm{lip}}1$.

In this paper, we investigate the ruin probabilities of non-homogeneous risk models. By employing martingale method, the Lundberg-type inequalities of ruin probabilities of non-homogeneous renewal risk models are obtained under weak assumptions. In addition, for the periodic and quasi-periodic risk models the adjustment coefficients of the Lundberg-type inequalities are obtained. Finally, examples are presented to show that estimations obtained in this paper are more accurate and the ruin probability in non-homogeneous risk models may be fast decreasing which is impossible for the case of homogeneity.

The problem features a positive signal-dependent motility function γ ( ⋅ ) which may vanish as v becomes unbounded. In this paper, we first modify the comparison approach developed recently in Fujie and Jiang (2020); Fujie and Jiang (2021) to derive the upper bounds of v under the slightly weakened above assumptions on γ ( ⋅ ) . Then by introducing a suitable approximation scheme which is compatible with the comparison method, we establish the global existence of weak solutions in any spatial dimension via compactness argument. Our weak solution has higher regularity than those obtained in previous literature (Burger et al., 2020; Desvillettes et al., 2019; Tao and Winkler, 2017).

An augmented metric space is a metric space $(X, d_X)$ equipped with a function $f_X: X \to \mathbb{R}$. This type of data arises commonly in practice, e.g, a point cloud $X$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ where each point $x\in X$ has a density function value $f_X(x)$ associated to it. An augmented metric space $(X, d_X, f_X)$ naturally gives rise to a 2-parameter filtration $\mathcal{K}$. However, the resulting 2-parameter persistent homology $\mathrm{H}_{\bullet}(\mathcal{K})$ could still be of wild representation type, and may not have simple indecomposables. In this paper, motivated by the elder-rule for the zeroth homology of 1-parameter filtration, we propose a barcode-like summary, called the elder-rule-staircode, as a way to encode $\mathrm{H}_0(\mathcal{K})$. Specifically, if $n = |X|$, the elder-rule-staircode consists of $n$ number of staircase-like blocks in the plane. We show that if $\mathrm{H}_0(\mathcal{K})$ is interval decomposable, then the barcode of $\mathrm{H}_0(\mathcal{K})$ is equal to the elder-rule-staircode. Furthermore, regardless of the interval decomposability, the fibered barcode, the dimension function (a.k.a. the Hilbert function), and the graded Betti numbers of $\mathrm{H}_0(\mathcal{K})$ can all be efficiently computed once the elder-rule-staircode is given. Finally, we develop and implement an efficient algorithm to compute the elder-rule-staircode in $O(n^2\log n)$ time, which can be improved to $O(n^2\alpha(n))$ if $X$ is from a fixed dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$, where $\alpha(n)$ is the inverse Ackermann function., Comment: A few important questions considered in the previous version have been settled; see Example 4.12 and Section 4.3 in particular. This paper provides a unified mathematical analysis of a family of non-local diffuse interface models for tumor growth describing evolutions driven by long-range interactions. These integro-partial differential equations model cell-to-cell adhesion by a non-local term and may be seen as non-local variants of the corresponding local model proposed by H. Garcke et al. (2016). The model in consideration couples a non-local Cahn-Hilliard equation for the tumor phase variable with a reaction-diffusion equation for the nutrient concentration, and takes into account also significant mechanisms such as chemotaxis and active transport. The system depends on two relaxation parameters: a viscosity coefficient and parabolic-regularization coefficient on the chemical potential. The first part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of the system with both regularizations. Here, a rich spectrum of results is presented. Weak well-posedness is first addressed, also including singular potentials. Then, under suitable conditions, existence of strong solutions enjoying the separation property is proved. This allows also to obtain a refined stability estimate with respect to the data, including both chemotaxis and active transport. The second part of the paper is devoted to the study of the asymptotic behavior of the system as the relaxation parameters vanish. The asymptotics are analyzed when the parameters approach zero both separately and jointly, and exact error estimates are obtained. In this paper we consider interpolation problem connected with series by integer shifts of Gaussians. Known approaches for these problems met numerical difficulties. Due to it another method is considered based on finite-rank approximations by linear systems. The main result for this approach is to establish correctness of the finite-rank linear system under consideration. And the main result of the paper is to prove correctness of the finite-rank linear system approximation. In this paper, we develop an in-depth analysis of non-reversible Markov chains on denumerable state space from a similarity orbit perspective. In particular, we study the class of Markov chains whose transition kernel is in the similarity orbit of a normal transition kernel, such as the one of birth-death chains or reversible Markov chains. We start by identifying a set of sufficient conditions for a Markov chain to belong to the similarity orbit of a birth-death one. As by-products, we obtain a spectral representation in terms of non-self-adjoint resolutions of identity in the sense of Dunford [21] and offer a detailed analysis on the convergence rate, separation cutoff and ${\rm{L}}^2$-cutoff of this class of non-reversible Markov chains. We also look into the problem of estimating the integral functionals from discrete observations for this class. In the last part of this paper, we investigate a particular similarity orbit of reversible Markov kernels, that we call the pure birth orbit, and analyze various possibly non-reversible variants of classical birth-death processes in this orbit., Comment: 29 pages. This paper is a fundamental study of the Real $2$-representation theory of $2$-groups. It also contains many new results in the ordinary (non-Real) case. Our framework relies on a $2$-equivariant Morita bicategory, where a novel construction of induction is introduced. We identify the Grothendieck ring of Real $2$-representations as a Real variant of the Burnside ring of the fundamental group of the $2$-group and study the Real categorical character theory. Combining the theory of fractional calculus and evolution families, the fixed point theorem with respect to convex-power condensing operator and a new estimation technique of the measure of noncompactness, we obtained the existence of mild solutions under the situation that the nonlinear function satisfy some appropriate local growth condition and a noncompactness measure condition. Our results generalize and improve some previous results on this topic, since the condition of uniformly continuity of the nonlinearity is not required, and also the strong restriction on the constants in the condition of noncompactness measure is completely deleted. As samples of applications, we consider the initial value problem to a class of time fractional non-autonomous partial differential equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition at the end of this paper.

This paper considers hyperbolic wave equations with non-local in time conditions involving integrals with respect to time. It is shown that regularity of the solution can be achieved for complexified problem with integral conditions involving harmonic complex exponential weights. The paper establishes existence, uniqueness, and a regularity of the solutions.

In this paper, we construct and study a semigroup associated to an action of a countable discrete group on a compact Hausdorff space that can be regarded as a higher dimensional generalization of the type semigroup. We study when this semigroup is almost unperforated. This leads to a new characterization of dynamical comparison and thus answers a question of Kerr and Schafhauser. In addition, this paper suggests a definition of comparison for dynamical systems in which neither the acting group is necessarily amenable nor the action is minimal.

Focusing on stochastic systems arising in mean-field models, the systems under consideration belong to the class of switching diffusions, in which continuous dynamics and discrete events coexist and interact. The discrete events are modeled by a continuous-time Markov chain. Different from the usual switching diffusions, the systems include mean-field interactions. Our effort is devoted to obtaining laws of large numbers for the underlying systems. One of the distinct features of the paper is the limit of the empirical measures is not deterministic but a random measure depending on the history of the Markovian switching process. A main difficulty is that the standard martingale approach cannot be used to characterize the limit because of the coupling due to the random switching process. In this paper, in contrast to the classical approach, the limit is characterized as the conditional distribution (given the history of the switching process) of the solution to a stochastic McKean-Vlasov differential equation with Markovian switching., Comment: 34 pages

In this paper, we obtain inequalities for some integrals involving the modified Lommel function of the first kind $t_{\mu,\nu}(x)$. In most cases, these inequalities are tight in certain limits. We also deduce a tight double inequality, involving the modified Lommel function $t_{\mu,\nu}(x)$, for a generalized hypergeometric function. In this paper we investigate a categorical aspect of $n$-trivial extension of a ring by a family of modules. Namely, we introduce the right (resp., left) $n$-trivial extension of a category by a family of endofunctors. Among other results, projective, injective and flat objects of this category are characterized. We end the paper with two applications. This paper is devoted to the question of constructing a higher order Faber spline basis for the sampling discretization of functions with higher regularity than Lipschitz. The basis constructed in this paper has similar properties as the piecewise linear classical Faber–Schauder basis (Faber, 1908) except for the compactness of the support. Although the new basis functions are supported on the real line they are very well localized (exponentially decaying) and the main parts are concentrated on a segment. This construction gives a complete answer to Problem 3.13 in Triebel’s monograph (Triebel, 2012) by extending the classical Faber basis to higher orders. Roughly, the crucial idea to obtain a higher order Faber spline basis is to apply Taylor’s remainder formula to the dual Chui–Wang wavelets. As a first step we explicitly determine these dual wavelets which may be of independent interest. Using this new basis we provide sampling characterizations for Besov and Triebel–Lizorkin spaces and overcome the smoothness restriction coming from the classical piecewise linear Faber–Schauder system. This basis is unconditional and coefficient functionals are computed from discrete function values similar as for the Faber–Schauder situation.

In this paper, we study transfer functions corresponding to parametric linear systems whose coefficients are block matrices. Thus, these transfer functions constitute Laurent polynomials whose coefficients are square matrices. We assume that block matrices defining the parametric linear systems are solutions of an integrable hierarchy called by us, the block matrices version of the finite discrete KP hierarchy, which is introduced and studied with certain detail in this paper. We see that the linear system defined of the simplest solution of the integrable system is controllable and observable. Then, as a consequence of this fact, it is possible to verify that any solution of the integrable hierarchy, obtained by the dressing method of the simplest solution, defines a parametric linear system which is also controllable and observable.

This paper studies convex stochastic dynamic team problems with finite and infinite time horizons under decentralized information structures. First, we introduce two notions called exchangeable teams and symmetric information structures. We show that in convex exchangeable team problems an optimal policy exhibits a symmetry structure. We give a characterization for such symmetrically optimal teams for a general class of convex dynamic team problems under a mild conditional independence condition. In addition, through concentration of measure arguments, we establish the convergence of optimal policies for teams with $N$ decision makers to the corresponding optimal policies for symmetric mean-field teams with infinitely many decision makers. As a by-product, we present an existence result for convex mean-field teams, where the main contribution of our paper is with respect to the information structure in the system when compared with the related results in the literature that have either assumed a classical information structure or a static information structure. We also apply these results to the important special case of Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) team problems, where while for partially nested LQG team problems with finite time horizons it is known that the optimal policies are linear, for infinite horizon problems the linearity of optimal policies has not been established in full generality. We also study average cost finite and infinite horizon dynamic team problems with a symmetric partially nested information structure and obtain globally optimal solutions where we establish linearity of optimal policies., Comment: The paper is to appear in the SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization (SICON)

In an earlier paper (A. N. Kochubei, {\it Pacif. J. Math.} 269 (2014), 355--369), the author considered a restriction of Vladimirov's fractional differentiation operator $D^\alpha$, $\alpha >0$, to radial functions on a non-Archimedean field. In particular, it was found to possess such a right inverse $I^\alpha$ that the change of an unknown function $u=I^\alpha v$ reduces the Cauchy problem for a linear equation with $D^\alpha$ (for radial functions) to an integral equation whose properties resemble those of classical Volterra equations. In other words, we found, in the framework of non-Archimedean pseudo-differential operators, a counterpart of ordinary differential equations. This paper is concerned with well-posedness of the Cahn-Hilliard equation subject to a class of new dynamic boundary conditions. The system was recently derived in Liu-Wu (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 233 (2019), 167-247) via an energetic variational approach and it naturally fulfills three physical constraints such as mass conservation, energy dissipation and force balance. The target problem examined in this paper can be viewed as a transmission problem that consists of Cahn-Hilliard type equations both in the bulk and on the boundary. In our approach, we are able to deal with a general class of potentials with double-well structure, including the physically relevant logarithmic potential and the non-smooth double-obstacle potential. Existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence of global weak solutions are established. The proof is based on a novel time-discretization scheme for the approximation of the continuous problem. Besides, a regularity result is shown with the aim of obtaining a strong solution to the system.

Model order reduction (MOR) techniques are often used to reduce the order of spatially-discretized (stochastic) partial differential equations and hence reduce computational complexity. A particular class of MOR techniques is balancing related methods which rely on simultaneously diagonalizing the system Gramians. This has been extensively studied for deterministic linear systems. The balancing procedure has already been extended to bilinear equations [1], an important subclass of nonlinear systems. The choice of Gramians in [1] is referred to be the standard approach. In [18], a balancing related MOR scheme for bilinear systems called singular perturbation approximation (SPA) has been described that relies on the standard choice of Gramians. However, no error bound for this method could be proved. In this paper, we extend the setting used in [18] by considering a stochastic system with bilinear drift and linear diffusion term. Moreover, we propose a modified reduced order model and choose a different reachability Gramian. Based on this new approach, an $L^2$-error bound is proved for SPA which is the main result of this paper. This paper deals with dynamical optimal transport metrics defined by spatial discretisation of the Benamou--Benamou formula for the Kantorovich metric $W_2$. Such metrics appear naturally in discretisations of $W_2$-gradient flow formulations for dissipative PDE. However, it has recently been shown that these metrics do not in general converge to $W_2$, unless strong geometric constraints are imposed on the discrete mesh. In this paper we prove that, in a $1$-dimensional periodic setting, discrete transport metrics converge to a limiting transport metric with a non-trivial effective mobility. This mobility depends sensitively on the geometry of the mesh and on the non-local mobility at the discrete level. This paper provides a framework for deriving a new set of necessary conditions for adverse control problems among two players. The distinguish feature of such problems is that the first player has a priori knowledge on the second player strategy. A subclass of adverse control problems is the one of minimax control problems, which frequently arise in robust dynamic optimization. The conditions derived in this manuscript are expressed in terms of relaxed derivatives: the dual variables and the related functions are limits of computable sequences, obtained by considering a regularized version of the original problem and applying well known necessary condition.
