In this short note we show that non-negative Ricci curvature is not preserved under Ricci flow for closed manifolds of dimensions four and above, strengthening a previous result of Knopf in \cite{K} for complete non-compact manifolds of bounded curvature. This brings down to four dimensions a similar result B\"ohm and Wilking have for dimensions twelve and above, \cite{BW}. Moreover, the manifolds constructed here are \Kahler manifolds and relate to a question raised by Xiuxiong Chen in \cite{XC}, \cite{XCL}., Comment: New version with added references and corrected typos

In 1981, Foias, Guillop\'e and Temam proved a priori estimates for arbitrary-order space derivatives of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. Such bounds are instructive in the numerical investigation of intermittency often observed in simulations, e.g., numerical study of vorticity moments by Donzis et al. (2013) revealed depletion of nonlinearity that may be responsible for smoothness of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. We employ an original method to derive analogous estimates for space derivatives of three-dimensional space-periodic weak solutions to the evolutionary equations of diffusive magnetohydrodynamics. Construction relies on space analyticity of the solutions at almost all times. An auxiliary problem is introduced, and a Sobolev norm of its solutions bounds from below the size in $C^3$ of the region of space analyticity of the solutions to the original problem. We recover the exponents obtained earlier for the hydrodynamic problem. The same approach is also followed here to derive and prove similar a priori bounds for arbitrary-order space derivatives of the first-order time derivative of the weak MHD solutions. In this paper we consider interpolation problem connected with series by integer shifts of Gaussians. Known approaches for these problems met numerical difficulties. Due to it another method is considered based on finite-rank approximations by linear systems. The main result for this approach is to establish correctness of the finite-rank linear system under consideration. And the main result of the paper is to prove correctness of the finite-rank linear system approximation. For that an explicit formula for the main determinant of the linear system is derived to demonstrate that it is non-zero., Comment: 12 pages

In this paper, we construct and study a semigroup associated to an action of a countable discrete group on a compact Hausdorff space that can be regarded as a higher dimensional generalization of the type semigroup. We study when this semigroup is almost unperforated. This leads to a new characterization of dynamical comparison and thus answers a question of Kerr and Schafhauser. In addition, this paper suggests a definition of comparison for dynamical systems in which neither the acting group is necessarily amenable nor the action is minimal.

In this paper, we study convergence of coupled dynamical systems on convergent sequences of graphs to a continuum limit. We show that the solutions of the initial value problem for the dynamical system on a convergent graph sequence tend to that for the nonlocal diffusion equation on a unit interval, as the graph size tends to infinity. We improve our earlier results in [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., 21 (2014), pp. 781--803] and extend them to a larger class of graphs, which includes directed and undirected, sparse and dense, random and deterministic graphs. There are three main ingredients of our approach. First, we employ a flexible framework for incorporating random graphs into the models of interacting dynamical systems, which fits seamlessly with the derivation of the continuum limit. Next, we prove the averaging principle for approximating a dynamical system on a random graph by its deterministic (averaged) counterpart. The proof covers systems on sparse graphs and yields almost sure convergence on time intervals of order $\log n,$ where $n$ is the number of vertices. Finally, a Galerkin scheme is developed to show convergence of the averaged model to the continuum limit. In this paper, we investigate sharp damping estimates for a class of one dimensional oscillatory integral operators with real-analytic phases. By establishing endpoint estimates for suitably damped oscillatory integral operators, we are able to give a new proof of the sharp $L^p$ estimates which have been proved by Xiao in Endpoint estimates for one-dimensional oscillatory integral operators, \emph{Advances in Mathematics}, \textbf{316}, 255-291 (2017). We establish a Dahlberg-type perturbation theorem for second order divergence form elliptic operators with complex coefficients. In our previous paper, we showed the following result: If ${\mathcal L}_0=\mbox{div} A^0(x)\nabla+B^0(x)\cdot\nabla$ is a $p$-elliptic operator satisfying certain Carleson condition on $\nabla A$ and $B$ then the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the operator ${\mathcal L}_0$ is solvable in the upper half-space ${\mathbb R}^n_+$. In this paper we prove that the $L^p$ solvability is stable under small perturbations of ${\mathcal L}_0$. That is if ${\mathcal L}_1$ is another divergence form elliptic operator with complex coefficients and the coefficients of the operators ${\mathcal L}_0$ and ${\mathcal L}_1$ are sufficiently close in the sense of Carleson measures (considering the differences of coefficients), then the $L^p$ Dirichlet problem for the operator ${\mathcal L}_1$ is solvable for the same value of $p$. As a corollary we obtain a new result on $L^p$ solvability of the Dirichlet problem for operators of the form ${\mathcal L}=\mbox{div} A(x)\nabla+B(x)\cdot\nabla$ where the matrix $A$ satisfies weaker Carleson condition than in our earlier paper; in particular the coefficients of $A$ need no longer be differentiable and instead satisfy a Carleson condition that controls the oscillation of the matrix $A$ over Whitney boxes. This paper provides a systematic study of fundamental combinatorial properties of one-dimensional, two-sided infinite simple Toeplitz subshifts. Explicit formulas for the complexity function, the palindrome complexity function and the repetitivity function are proven. Moreover, a complete description of the de Bruijn graphs of the subshifts is given. Finally, the Boshernitzan condition is characterised in terms of combinatorial quantities, based on a recent result of Liu and Qu. Particular simple characterisations are provided for simple Toeplitz subshifts that correspond to the orbital Schreier graphs of the family of Grigorchuk's groups, a class of subshifts that serves as main example throughout the paper., Comment: Minor corrections in the proofs of Proposition 3.4 and 5.4; results unchanged. In this paper, we study the $H^s$-stability of the log-log blowup regime (which has been completely described in a series of recent works by Merle and Raphael) for the focusing mass-critical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations $i\partial_tu+\Delta u+|u|^\frac4du=0$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d\geq3$. We aim to extend the result in [Colliander and Raphael, Rough blowup solutions to the $L^2$ critical NLS, Math. Let $(M,\theta)$ be a compact strictly pseudoconvex pseudohermitian manifold which is CR embedded into a complex space. In an earlier paper, Lin and the authors gave several sharp upper bounds for the first positive eigenvalue $\lambda_1$ of the Kohn-Laplacian $\Box_b$ on $(M,\theta)$. In the present paper, we give a sharp upper bound for $\lambda_1$, generalizing and extending some previous results. As a corollary, we obtain a Reilly-type estimate when $M$ is embedded into the standard sphere. In another direction, using a Lichnerowicz-type estimate by Chanillo, Chiu, and Yang and an explicit formula for the Webster scalar curvature, we give a lower bound for $\lambda_1$ when the pseudohermitian structure $\theta$ is volume-normalized., Comment: 11 pages

It is an important problem in differential geometry to find non-naturally reductive homogeneous Einstein metrics on homogeneous manifolds. In this paper, we consider this problem for some coset spaces of compact simple Lie groups. A new method to construct invariant non-naturally reductive Einstein metrics on normal homogeneous Einstein manifolds is presented. In particular, we show that on the standard homogeneous Einstein manifolds, except for some special cases, there exist plenty of such metrics. A further interesting result of this paper is that on some compact semisimple Lie groups, there exist a large number of left invariant non-naturally reductive Einstein metrics which are not product metrics., Comment: 29 pages

In this paper we consider the Prym map for double coverings of curves of genus $g$ ramified at $r>0$ points. That is, the map associating to a double ramified covering its Prym variety. The generic Torelli theorem states that the Prym map is generically injective as soon as the dimension of the space of coverings is less or equal to the dimension of the space of polarized abelian varieties. We prove the generic injectivity of the Prym map in the cases of double coverings of curves with: (a) $g=2$, $r=6$, and (b) $g= 5$, $r=2$. In the first case the proof is constructive and can be extended to the range $r\ge \max \{6,\frac 23(g+2) \}$. For (b) we study the fibre along the locus of the intermediate Jacobians of cubic threefolds to conclude the generic injectivity. This completes the work of Marcucci and Pirola who proved this theorem for all the other cases, except for the bielliptic case $g=1$ (solved later by Marcucci and the first author), and the case $g=3, r=4$ considered previously by Nagaraj and Ramanan, and also by Bardelli, Ciliberto and Verra where the degree of the map is $3$. In analogy with the study of representations of $GL_{2n}(F)$ distinguished by $Sp_{2n}(F)$, where $F$ is a local field, in this paper we study representations of $U_{2n}(F)$ distinguished by $Sp_{2n}(F)$. (Only quasi-split unitary groups are considered in this paper since they are the only ones which contain $Sp_{2n}(F)$.) We prove that there are no cuspidal representations of $U_{2n}(F)$ distinguished by $Sp_{2n}(F)$ for $F$ a non-archimedean local field. We also prove the corresponding global theorem that there are no cuspidal representations of $U_{2n}({\mathbb A}_k)$ with nonzero period integral on $Sp_{2n}(k) \backslash Sp_{2n}({\mathbb A}_k)$ for $k$ any number field or a function field. We completely classify representations of quasi-split unitary group in four variables over local and global fields with nontrivial symplectic periods using methods of theta correspondence. We construct virtual cycles on moduli spaces of perturbed gauged Witten equation over a fixed smooth r -spin curve, under the framework of [TX15]. Together with the wall-crossing formula proved in the companion paper [TX19], it completes the construction of the correlation function for the gauged linear sigma model announced in [TX16] as well as the proof of its invariance., Comment: The original version is split into two parts as requested by the journal. In this paper we consider a new kind of inequality related to fractional integration, motivated by Gressman's paper. Based on it we investigate its multilinear analogue inequalities. Combining with the Gressman's work on multilinear integral, we establish this new kind of geometric inequalities with bilinear form and multilinear form in more general settings. Moreover, in some cases we also find the best constants and optimisers for these geometric inequalities on Euclidean spaces with Lebesgue measure settings with $L^p$ bounds.

In his seminal paper, half a century ago, Hyman Bass established commutator formulas for a (stable) general linear group, which were the key step in defining the group K 1. Namely, he proved that for an associative ring A with identity, $$ E(A)=\left[E(A),E(A)\right]=\left[\mathrm{GL}(A),\mathrm{GL}(A)\right], $$ where GL(A) is the stable general linear group and E(A) is its elementary subgroup. Since then, various commutator formulas have been studied in stable and non-stable settings for classical groups, algebraic groups, and their analogs, and mostly in relation to subnormal subgroups of these groups. The basic classical theorems and methods developed for their proofs are associated with the names of the heroes of classical algebraic K-theory: Bak, Quillen, Milnor, Suslin, Swan, Vaserstein, and others. One of the dominant techniques in establishing commutator type results is localization. In the present paper, some recent applications of localization methods to the study (higher/relative) commutators in the groups of points of algebraic and algebraic-like groups, such as general linear groups GL(n,A), unitary groups GU(2n,A, Λ), and Chevalley groups G(Φ,A), are described. Some auxiliary results and corollaries of the main results are also stated. The paper provides a general overview of the subject and covers the current activities. It contains complete proofs borrowed from our previous papers and expositions of several main results to give the reader a self-contained source.

In this paper we establish the $C^{1,\beta}$ regularity of the regular part of the free boundary in the Signorini problem for elliptic operators with variable Lipschitz coefficients. This work is a continuation of the recent paper [GSVG14], where two of us established the interior optimal regularity of the solution. We study intertwining operator algebras introduced and constructed by Huang. In the case that the intertwining operator algebras involve intertwining operators among irreducible modules for their vertex operator subalgebras, a number of results on intertwining operator algebras were given in [H9] but some of the proofs were postponed to an unpublished monograph. In this paper, we give the proofs of these results in [H9] and we formulate and prove results for general intertwining operator algebras without assuming that the modules involved are irreducible. In particular, we construct fusing and braiding isomorphisms for general intertwining operator algebras and prove that they satisfy the genus-zero Moore-Seiberg equations. We show that the Jacobi identity for intertwining operator algebras is equivalent to generalized rationality, commutativity and associativity properties of intertwining operator algebras. We introduce the locality for intertwining operator algebras and show that the Jacobi identity is equivalent to the locality, assuming that other axioms hold. Moreover, we establish that any two of the three properties, associativity, commutativity and skew-symmetry, imply the other (except that when deriving skew-symmetry from associativity and commutativity, more conditions are needed). This is the first in a series of papers dedicated to the study of Poisson manifolds of compact types (PMCTs). This notion encompasses several classes of Poisson manifolds defined via properties of their symplectic integrations. In this first paper we establish some fundamental properties of PMCTs, which already show that they are the analogues of compact symplectic manifolds, thus placing them in a prominent position among all Poisson manifolds. For instance, their Poisson cohomology behaves very much like the de Rham cohomology of compact symplectic manifolds (Hodge decomposition, non-degenerate Poincar\'e duality pairing, etc.) and the Moser trick can be adapted to PMCTs. More important, we find unexpected connections between PMCTs and Symplectic Topology: PMCTs are related with the theory of Lagrangian fibrations and we exhibit a construction of a nontrivial PMCT related to a classical question on the topology of the orbits of a free symplectic circle action. In subsequent papers, we will establish deep connections between PMCTs and integral affine geometry, Hamiltonian $G$-spaces, foliation theory, Lie theory and symplectic gerbes., Comment: Some notations and conventions were changed to agree with PMCT 2. We present an abstract multiscale analysis scheme for matrix functions $(H_{\varepsilon}(m,n))_{m,n\in \mathfrak{T}}$, where $\mathfrak{T}$ is an Abelian group equipped with a distance $|\cdot|$. This is an extension of the scheme developed by Damanik and Goldstein for the special case $\mathfrak{T} = \mathbb{Z}^\nu$. Our main motivation for working out this extension comes from an application to matrix functions which are dual to certain Hill operators. These operators take the form $H_{\tilde\omega}=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2} + \varepsilon U(\tilde\omega x)$, where $U$ is a real smooth function on the torus $\mathbb{T}^\nu$, $\tilde\omega\in \mathbb{R}^\nu$ is a vector with rational components, and $\varepsilon$ is a small parameter. The group in this particular case is the quotient $\mathfrak{T} = \mathbb{Z}^\nu/\{m\in\mathbb{Z}^\nu:m\tilde\omega=0\}$. We show that the general theory indeed applies to this special case, provided that the rational frequency vector $\tilde\omega$ obeys a suitable Diophantine condition in a large box of modes. Despite the fact that in this setting the orbits $k + m\omega$, $k \in \mathbb{R}$, $m\in\mathbb{Z}^\nu$ are not dense, the dual eigenfunctions are exponentially localized and the eigenvalues of the operators can be described as $E(k+m\omega)$ with $E(k)$ being a "nice" monotonic function of the impulse $k \ge 0$. This enables us to derive a description of the Floquet solutions and the band-gap structure of the spectrum, which we will use in a companion paper to develop a complete inverse spectral theory for the Sturm-Liouville equation with small quasi-periodic potential via periodic approximation of the frequency. The analysis of the gaps in the range of the function $E(k)$ plays a crucial role in this approach., Comment: 53 pages. Let L be the even unimodular lattice of signature (2,10), In the paper [FS] we considered the subgroup O(L)^+ of index two in the orthogonal group. It acts biholomorphically on a ten dimensional tube domain H_{10}. We found a 715 dimensional space of modular forms with respect to the principal congruence subgroup of level two O^+(L)[2]. It defines an everywhere regular birational embedding of the related modular variety into the 714 dimensional projective space. In this paper, we prove that this space of orthogonal modular forms is related to a space of theta series. The main tool is a modular embedding of H_{10} into the Siegel half space of degree 16. As a consequence the modular forms in the 715 dimensional space can be obtained as restrictions of the simplest among all theta series.

A spacetime is a connected 4-dimensional semi-Riemannian manifold endowed with a metric $g$ with signature $(- + + +)$. The geometry of a spacetime is described by the metric tensor $g$ and the Ricci tensor $S$ of type $(0, 2)$ whereas the energy momentum tensor of type $(0,2)$ describes the physical contents of the spacetime. Einstein's field equations relate $g$, $S$ and the energy momentum tensor and describe the geometry and physical contents of the spacetime. By solving Einstein's field equations for empty spacetime (i.e. $S = 0$) for a non-static spacetime metric, one can obtain the interior black hole solution, known as the interior black hole spacetime which infers that a remarkable change occurs in the nature of the spacetime, namely, the external spatial radial and temporal coordinates exchange their characters to temporal and spatial coordinates, respectively, and hence the interior black hole spacetime is a non-static one as the metric coefficients are time dependent. For the sake of mathematical generalizations, in the literature, there are many rigorous geometric structures constructed by imposing the restrictions to the curvature tensor of the space involving first order and second order covariant differentials of the curvature tensor. Hence a natural question arises that which geometric structures are admitted by the interior black hole metric. The main aim of this paper is to provide the answer of this question so that the geometric structures admitting by such a metric can be interpreted physically., Comment: The paper contains 33 pages

We prove duality results for residual intersections that unify and complete results of van Straten, Huneke–Ulrich and Ulrich, and settle conjectures of van Straten and Warmt. Suppose that I is an ideal of codimension g in a Gorenstein ring, and J ⊂ I {J\subset I} is an ideal with s = g + t {s=g+t} generators such that K := J : I {K:=J:I} has codimension s. Let I ¯ {{\overline{I}}} be the image of I in R ¯ := R / K {{\overline{R}}:=R/K} . In the first part of the paper we prove, among other things, that under suitable hypotheses on I, the truncated Rees ring R ¯ ⊕ I ¯ ⊕ ⋯ ⊕ I ¯ t + 1 {{\overline{R}}\oplus{\overline{I}}\oplus\cdots\oplus{\overline{I}}{}^{t+1}} is a Gorenstein ring, and that the modules I ¯ u {{\overline{I}}{}^{u}} and I ¯ t + 1 - u {{\overline{I}}{}^{t+1-u}} are dual to one another via the multiplication pairing into I ¯ ≅ t + 1 ω R ¯ {{{\overline{I}}{}^{t+1}}\cong{\omega_{\overline{R}}}} . In the second part of the paper we study the analogue of residue theory, and prove that, when R / K {R/K} is a finite-dimensional algebra over a field of characteristic 0 and certain other hypotheses are satisfied, the socle of I t + 1 / J ⁢ I t ≅ ω R / K {I^{t+1}/JI^{t}\cong{\omega_{R/K}}} is generated by a Jacobian determinant.

This paper is a sequel to [BKR], where we studied the derived affine scheme DRep_n(A) of the classical representation scheme Rep_n(A) for an associative k-algebra A. In [BKR], we have constructed canonical trace maps Tr_n(A): HC(A) -> H[DRep_n(A)]^GL extending the usual characters of representations to higher cyclic homology. This raises a question whether a well known theorem of Procesi [P] holds in the derived setting: namely, is the algebra homomorphism Sym[Tr_n(A)]: Sym[HC(A)] -> H[DRep_n(A)]^GL defined by Tr_n(A) surjective ? In the present paper, we answer this question for augmented algebras. Given such an algebra, we construct a canonical dense DG subalgebra DRep_\infty(A)^Tr of the topological DG algebra DRep_\infty(A)^{GL_\infty}. It turns out that on passing to the inverse limit (as n -> \infty), the family of maps Sym[Tr_n(A)] "stabilizes" to an isomorphism Sym[\bar{HC}(A)] = H[DRep_\infty(A)^Tr]. The derived version of Procesi's theorem does therefore hold in the limit. However, for a fixed (finite) n, there exist homological obstructions to the surjectivity of Sym[Tr_n(A)], and we show on simple examples that these obstructions do not vanish in general. We compare our result with the classical theorem of Loday-Quillen and Tsygan on stable homology of matrix Lie algebras. We show that the relative Chevalley-Eilenberg complex C(gl_\infty(A), gl_\infty(k); k) equipped with the natural coalgebra structure is Koszul dual to the DG algebra DRep_\infty(A)^Tr. We also extend our main results to bigraded DG algebras, in which case we show that DRep_{\infty}(A)^Tr = DRep_{\infty}(A)^GL_{\infty}. As an application, we compute the (bigraded) Euler characteristics of DRep_\infty(A)^GL_{\infty} and \bar{HC}(A) and derive some interesting combinatorial identities., 34 pages. The theory of integral, or Fourier-Mukai, transforms between derived categories of sheaves is a well established tool in noncommutative algebraic geometry. General "representation theorems" identify all reasonable linear functors between categories of perfect complexes (or their "large" version, quasi-coherent sheaves) on schemes and stacks over some fixed base with integral kernels in the form of sheaves (of the same nature) on the fiber product. However, for many applications in mirror symmetry and geometric representation theory one is interested instead in the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves (or its "large" version, ind-coherent sheaves), which differs from perfect complexes (and quasi-coherent sheaves) once the underlying variety is singular. In this paper, we give general representation theorems for linear functors between categories of coherent sheaves over a base in terms of integral kernels on the fiber product. Namely, we identify coherent kernels with functors taking perfect complexes to coherent sheaves, and kernels which are coherent relative to the source with functors taking all coherent sheaves to coherent sheaves. The proofs rely on key aspects of the "functional analysis" of derived categories, namely the distinction between small and large categories and its measurement using $t$-structures. These are used in particular to correct the failure of integral transforms on Ind-coherent sheaves to correspond to such sheaves on a fiber product. The results are applied in a companion paper to the representation theory of the affine Hecke category, identifying affine character sheaves with the spectral geometric Langlands category in genus one., Comment: 36 pages

This paper concerns the link between the dynamical behaviour of a dynamical system and the dynamical behaviour of its numerical simulations. Here, we model numerical truncation as a spatial discretization of the system. Some previous works on well chosen examples show that the dynamical behaviours of dynamical systems and of their discretizations can be quite different. In this paper we are interested in generic homeomorphisms of compact manifolds. So our aim is to tackle the following question: can the dynamical properties of a generic homeomorphism be detected on the spatial discretizations of this homeomorphism? We study both conservative and dissipative homeomorphisms (i.e. with or without the assumption that the homeomorphism preserves a given measure). We will prove that the dynamics of a single discretization of a generic conservative homeomorphism does not depend on the homeomorphism itself, but rather on the grid used for the discretization. Therefore, dynamical properties of a given generic conservative homeomorphism cannot be detected using a single discretization. Nevertheless, we will also prove that some dynamical features of a generic conservative homeomorphism (such as the set of the periods of all periodic points) can be read on a sequence of finer and finer discretizations. The dissipative case is somehow opposite: we will see that the dynamics of a generic dissipative homeomorphism is well-approximated by the dynamics of any fine enough discretization of this homeomorphism., Comment: 43 pages

This is the second of four papers that study algebraic and analytic structures associated with the Lerch zeta function. In this paper we analytically continue it as a function of three complex variables. We that it is well defined as a multivalued function on the manifold M equal to C^3 with the hyperplanes corresponding to integer values of the two variables a and c removed. We show that it becomes single valued on the maximal abelian cover of M. This is the third of three papers that refine and extend portions of our earlier preprint, "The depth of a knot tunnel." Together, they rework the entire preprint. In this paper, we use the theory of tunnel number 1 knots that we introduced in "The tree of knot tunnels" to strengthen the Tunnel Leveling Theorem of H. Goda, M. Scharlemann, and A. Thompson. This yields considerable information about bridge numbers of tunnel number 1 knots. In particular, we calculate the minimum bridge number of a knot as a function of the maximum depth invariant d of its tunnels. The growth of this value is on the order of (1+\sqrt{2})^d. We also find the maximum bridge number as a function of the number of cabling constructions needed to produce the tunnel, showing in particular that the maximum bridge number of a knot produced by n cabling constructions is the (n+2)nd Fibonacci number. In this paper we prove the following renewal-type limit theorem. Given an irrational $\alpha$ in (0,1) and R>0, let $q_{n_R}$ be the first denominator of the convergents of $\alpha$ which exceeds R. The main result in the paper is that the ratio $q_{n_R}/R$ has a limiting distribution as R tends to infinity. In this paper we provide a criteria for geometric finiteness of Kleinian groups in general dimension. We formulate the concept of conformal finiteness for Kleinian groups in space of dimension higher than two, which generalizes the notion of analytic finiteness in dimension two. Then we extend the argument in the paper of Bishop and Jones to show that conformal finiteness implies geometric finiteness unless the set of limit points is of Hausdorff dimension n. Furthermore we show that, for a given Kleinian group $\Gamma$, conformal finiteness is equivalent to the existence of a metric of finite geometry on the Kleinian manifold $\Omega(\Gamma)/\Gamma$., Comment: 18 pages, 1 figure

Let G be a torsion free discrete group and let \bar{Q} denote the field of algebraic numbers in C. We prove that \bar{Q}[G] fulfills the Atiyah conjecture if G lies in a certain class of groups D, which contains in particular all groups which are residually torsion free elementary amenable or which are residually free. This result implies that there are no non-trivial zero-divisors in C[G]. The statement relies on new approximation results for L2-Betti numbers over \bar{Q}[G], which are the core of the work done in this paper. Another set of results in the paper is concerned with certain number theoretic properties of eigenvalues for the combinatorial Laplacian on L2-cochains on any normal covering space of a finite CW complex. We establish the absence of eigenvalues that are transcendental numbers, whenever the covering transformation group is either amenable or in the Linnell class \mathcal{C}. We also establish the absence of eigenvalues that are Liouville transcendental numbers whenever the covering transformation group is either residually finite or more generally in a certain large bootstrap class \mathcal{G}. Please take the errata to Schick: "L2-determinant class and approximation of L2-Betti numbers" into account, which are added at the end of the file, rectifying some unproved statements about "amenable extension". It is still not known whether a solution to the incompressible Euler equation, endowed with a smooth initial value, can blow-up in finite time. In [{\em Comm. Math. Phys.}, 378:557--568, 2020] it has been shown that, if it exists, such a solution becomes linearly unstable close to the blow-up time. In this paper, we show that the same phenomenon holds even in the more rigid axisymmetric case. To obtain this result, we first prove a blow-up criterion involving only the toroidal component of the vorticity. The instability of blow-up profiles is also investigated., Comment: 14 pages

In this paper, we prove the existence of weak solutions for the stationary compressible Navier-Stokes equations with an anisotropic and nonlocal viscous stress tensor in a periodic domain T 3 . This gives an answer to an open problem which is important for applications for instance in geophysics or in microfluidics. When dealing with weak solutions for such non-linear PDE system, the most delicate aspect is the stability analysis: Given a sequence of weak solutions for some well-chosen approximated systems, show that this sequence converges to a solution for the initial system. One of the key ingredients in the proof of stability is the adaptation of a new identity discovered by the authors [Annales IHP Analyse Non Lineaire, to appear 2020] which was developped to study the quasi-stationary anisotropic compressible Brinkman system. This identity is used in order to recover strong convergence properties for the sequence of velocities and recover a posteriori strong convergence for the sequence of densities.

In this paper, we classify the three-dimensional partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms whose stable, unstable, and central distributions $E^s$ , $E^u$ , and $E^c$ are smooth, such that $E^s\oplus E^u$ is a contact distribution, and whose non-wandering set equals the whole manifold. We prove that up to a finite quotient or a finite power, they are smoothly conjugated either to a time-map of an algebraic contact-Anosov flow, or to an affine partially hyperbolic automorphism of a nil- ${\mathrm {Heis}}{(3)}$ -manifold. The rigid geometric structure induced by the invariant distributions plays a fundamental part in the proof.

In this paper, we study various forms of the Hardy inequality for Dunkl operators, including the classical inequality, [Formula: see text] inequalities, an improved Hardy inequality, as well as the Rellich inequality and a special case of the Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequality. As a consequence, one-dimensional many-particle Hardy inequalities for generalized root systems are proved, which in the particular case of root systems [Formula: see text] improve some well-known results.

In this paper we study a Fermi–Ulam model where a pingpong ball bounces elastically against a periodically oscillating platform in a gravity field. We assume that the platform motion $f(t)$ is 1-periodic and piecewise $C^3$ with a singularity, $\dot {f}(0+)\ne \dot {f}(1-)$ . If the second derivative $\ddot {f}(t)$ of the platform motion is either always positive or always less than $-g$ , where g is the gravitational constant, then the escaping orbits constitute a null set and the system is recurrent. However, under these assumptions, escaping orbits co-exist with bounded orbits at arbitrarily high energy levels.

Let $\varphi:X\to X$ be a homeomorphism of a compact metric space $X$. For any continuous function $F:X\to \mathbb{R}$ there is a one-parameter group $\alpha^{F}$ of automorphisms on the crossed product $C^*$-algebra $C(X)\rtimes_{\varphi}\mathbb{Z}$ defined such that $\alpha^{F}_{t}(fU)=fUe^{-itF}$ when $f \in C(X)$ and $U$ is the canonical unitary in the construction of the crossed product. In this paper we study the KMS states for these flows by developing an intimate relation to the ergodic theory of non-singular transformations and show that the structure of KMS-states can be very rich and complicated. Our results are complete concerning the set of possible inverse temperatures; in particular, we show that when $C(X) \rtimes_{\phi} \mathbb Z$ is simple this set is either $\{0\}$ or the whole line $\mathbb R$., Comment: v2: minor changes and beginning of section 4 rewritten. We obtain approximation bounds for products of quasimodes for the Laplace–Beltrami operator on compact Riemannian manifolds of all dimensions without boundary. We approximate the products of quasimodes uv by a low-degree vector space B n {B_{n}} , and we prove that the size of the space dim ⁡ ( B n ) {\dim(B_{n})} is small. In this paper, we first study bilinear quasimode estimates of all dimensions d = 2 , 3 {d=2,3} , d = 4 , 5 {d=4,5} and d ≥ 6 {d\geq 6} , respectively, to make the highest frequency disappear from the right-hand side. Furthermore, the result of the case λ = μ {\lambda=\mu} of bilinear quasimode estimates improves L 4 {L^{4}} quasimodes estimates of Sogge and Zelditch in [C. D. Sogge and S. Zelditch, A note on L p L^{p} -norms of quasi-modes, Some Topics in Harmonic Analysis and Applications, Adv. Lect. Math. (ALM) 34, International Press, Somerville 2016, 385–397] when d ≥ 8 {d\geq 8} . And on this basis, we give approximation bounds in H - 1 {H^{-1}} -norm. We also prove approximation bounds for the products of quasimodes in L 2 {L^{2}} -norm using the results of L p {L^{p}} -estimates for quasimodes in [M. Blair, Y. Sire and C. D. Let $M$ be a closed, oriented, and connected Riemannian $n$-manifold, for $n\ge 2$, which is not a rational homology sphere. We show that, for a non-constant and non-injective uniformly quasiregular self-map $f\colon M\to M$, the topological entropy $h(f)$ is $\log \mathrm{deg}( f )$. In this paper, we extend considerably the global existence results of entropy-weak solutions related to compressible Navier-Stokes system with density dependent viscosities obtained, independently (using different strategies), by Vasseur-Yu [Inventiones mathematicae (2016) and arXiv:1501.06803 (2015)] and by Li-Xin [arXiv:1504.06826 (2015)].More precisely we are able to consider a physical symmetric viscous stress tensor $\sigma=2\mu(\rho)\,{\mathbb{D}}(u)+\bigl(\lambda(\rho){\rm div}u -P(\rho)\bigr)\, {\rm Id}$ where ${\mathbb D}(u) = [\nabla u + \nabla^T u]/2$ with a shear and bulk viscosities (respectively $\mu(\rho)$ and $\lambda(\rho)$) satisfying the BD relation $\lambda(\rho)=2(\mu'(\rho)\rho - \mu(\rho))$ and a pressure law $P(\rho)=a\rho^\gamma$ (with $a>0$ a given constant) for any adiabatic constant $\gamma>1$. The nonlinear shear viscosity $\mu(\rho)$ satisfies some lower and upper bounds for low and high densities (our mathematical result includes the case $\mu(\rho)= \mu\rho^\alpha$ with $2/3 < \alpha < 4$ and $\mu>0$ constant). This provides an answer to a longstanding mathematical question on compressible Navier-Stokes equations with density dependent viscosities as mentioned for instance by F. Rousset in the Bourbaki 69\`eme ann\'ee, 2016--2017, no 1135.
