The Viennese physician Mor¿z Gauster came to Carniola as an assistant physidan during the great cholera pidemic of 1855 and remained here until the beginning of the 1870s. Working as the district physidan in Kamnik, he was an active member of the Society of Physicians in Carniola. He wrote a number of the Society's expert opinions and was the author of at least two published studies; the first on the reorganization of the provindal maternity hospital and the second on the reform of the Austrian healthcare organization. He was also the editor of Carniola's chief medical report for the years 1861 and 1862, and for a period of time he was actively involved in politics and in public issues. Particularly significant for the social history of medicine are his health care statistics charts, compiled for the province of Carniola in 1859 and preserved as manuscripts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rasp's book of forms was intended for transcripts of deeds that were to be used as samples for the later drawing up of similar documents. It was named after two members of the Carniolan noble family Rasp and included a number of German and Latin documents as well as 14 texts in Slovene. The Slovene texts may be divided into five categories of administrative texts and two of these categories, i. e. proclamation of excommunication and an oath in relation to reasons against entering into marriage, have up to now never been documented in the Slovene language. Thus, the book Cs such is a treasury of the Slovene administrative texts of the 17th and the first half of the 18th centuries since Slovene administrative records fir that particular period are very rare. The book dearly demonstrates narrow choice of the categories of the administrative texts that at the time were created in Slovene and were almost exclusively meant for public oral use such as taking oaths and making public announcements. As to their linguistic and alphabetic characteristics, the texts display disunity typical for the time of their creation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
