The article is an analytical and synthetic study on a recently discovered archivalia -- decoratively made card for the Ljubljana bishop Jernej Vidmar (1860), on the context of card's origin, and photograph of Kranj embedded in card's frontal cover. Image on glass is a quality example from the early experimental period of the history of photography on Slovenian territory as well as the oldest photographic vista. It opens up an introductory chapter of this photography genre and the issue of its authorship, technique, and provenance. Since its visual and technical characteristics are reminiscent of the hyalotypes of our first photographer and photography inventor Janez Puhar, it was a subject of thorough researches and comparisons to his works. Anonymous vista and Puhar's photographs are detailed on several aspects in this article: from historical and cultural historical, restoration and conservation, and scientific aspects (computerised laboratory examinations). Research findings are painting it in the light of specific circumstances in the area and in the period of its creation, and interrelationships between participating actors, initiators of this valuable product.
