The article focuses on the study on the level of women who dropped out of math-intensive careers due to family obligations, conducted Stephen J. Ceci and Wendy M . Williams at the Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The study explores the devotion of women to their families rather than to careers, as compared to men. Findings determine that a number of women give up their math careers including engineering to devote time to families. It has also found out that less than 10 percent of women composed the top 1 percent of math ability, a decline on the previous 33 percent professorships women comprised in math-intensive fields. The authors believe that the demands of parenting and care-giving may explain the reason why women drop out of math and physical sciences.
