A participatory approach in physiology teaching was suggested to enable students understand the advantages and disadvantages of peer review systems. Peer review systems were often used in the review of scientific literature and laboratory investigations. Each peer review participant was given a review sheet to be filled up and the criteria used in the review were grammar and spelling, critical thinking, content and overall evaluation of the research. The method provided the students with an experiential learning experience and enabled them to appreciate the work of their colleagues.
