This volume is the result of an international effort to create a comprehensive approach to the management of visual disabilities in children. The expertise of contributors from Great Britain, Europe, the United States, and Canada is used. The editors have recognized that children with visual impairments present one of the greatest challenges to health and education professionals, as well as to the family and its interaction with society. Current educational issues and technical innovations are lucidly discussed, as is the need for the management of children with visual impairments by a team requiring cooperation between health professionals, teachers, social workers, and the family. Each chapter includes a bibliography with pertinent references. Specific case studies that give a more personal view of the many problems children with visual disabilities face are presented throughout the book.
