Abstract: The article discusses a study related to the association of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and albuminuria with clinical risk. Chronic Kidney Disease Prognosis Consortium (CKD-PC) consists of cohortsfrom general, high-risk and CKD populations with baseline information on eGFR and albuminuria. The study suggested that low eGFR and high albuminuria were associated with mortality and end stage renal disease (ESRD) regardless of age. It also informs that kidney measures used for defining and staging CKD are strong predictors of clinical risk.

Abstract: The article discusses a study of the risk implications of estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) using the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation as compared with the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation, in populations with a broad range of demographic and clinical characteristics. The researchers performed a meta-analysis of data from 1.1 million adults between March 2011 and March 2012 and computed the estimated GFR from serum creatinine standardized to isotope dilution mass spectrometry. They found that mean estimated GRF was greater when calculated using the CKD-EPI equation than by the MDRD Study equation.
