Frequency measurement is one of the key techniques in high-precision data acquisition technology of broadband signals. Generally, frequency measurement not only needs to deal with a large amount of data processing but also requires a high precision, but these two aspects are sometimes difficult to reconcile. Some algorithms are overly dependent on the accuracy of the to-be-measured data, which might not be the desired option for real projects since it is almost impossible to get ideal error-free data. This article adopts a frequency measurement method based on the coordinate rotation digital computer algorithm, differential algorithm, and Kalman filter. The use of these algorithms for the frequency measurement process would not only simplify the calculation but also reduce the effect of the measurement error. This method can measure all signals that satisfy the sampling theorem and can also measure multi-channel parallel signals. The experimental results of data simulation and actual measurement on the hardware platform show that the accurate frequency measurement algorithm has a strong data processing ability, stable measurement, and steady improvement in the accuracy of measurement results, which can meet the needs of most instruments for accurate frequency measurement. Light-induced domain reversal of near-stoichiometric Mg-doped LiNbO3 crystal was investigated with a focused 532 nm continuous laser beam. The lowest electric field applied to accomplish domain nucleation is only 30 V/mm and 1/80 of the coercive field, which is safe and convenient for us to fabricate domain structures. Under this superlow applied field, the pinning effect of domain wall is so obvious that the inverted domain reveals a gear shape contrary to the hexagon in a higher applied field. We present magnetization data for polymer-mediated, self-assembled films of 4 nm FePt nanoparticles with thicknesses between one and four nanoparticle layers. As synthesized and deposited, the assemblies contain weakly magnetic material whose volume is equivalent to an outer 0.5 nm shell of the nanoparticles. During a 580 °C anneal, this material is incorporated into the magnetic domains of the nanoparticles. The fraction of nanoparticles transformed by annealing into ferromagnetic L1[sub 0] FePt, the structure essential for magnetic storage applications, is found to vary with sample thickness; samples thinner than four nanoparticle layers show no significant fraction of ferromagnetic (at 300 K) L1[sub 0] structured nanoparticles under these annealing conditions, while in films comprised of four nanoparticle layers, less than half of the particles are ferromagnetic at 300 K. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) measurement is essential in wireless communications to avoid both performance degradation and serious fault failures. In this paper, we present the design of an acquisition system for a time-domain EMI measurement receiver intended for monitoring potential EMI. The platform consists of both hardware and software systems. The hardware system is constructed using a modular design method and contains a conditioning module, a data acquisition and processing module, and a clock generation module. The software system provides an interactive interface for device operation and offers an automatic sampling/processing procedure that is developed on a slot 0 controller. An additional outstanding feature of the proposed system is its high dynamic range. We propose a novel multi-stage architecture and a data reconstruction algorithm that are combined to achieve large dynamic range acquisition. The proposed acquisition architecture breaks through the dynamic range limitations of conventional analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) on a significant scale. The implemented system is able to capture an analog waveform with a 300 MHz bandwidth and a 1 GS/s sampling rate. The experimental results show that the maximum dynamic range achieved is 96.43 dB, which is far greater than the single ADC dynamic range of 52 dB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main factors that enable capture of complex and transient signals in real-time are improved sampling rates and processing speeds. The time-interleaved architecture is an effective method that allows systems to break through the speed bottleneck of single analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and go beyond the state-of-the-art process technology limit. However, the performance of the acquisition system may be reduced because of the offset, gain, and time mismatch errors that occur in time-interleaved ADC systems. To correct these errors, this paper first proposes a self-adaptive correction algorithm and then introduces real-time solutions for this algorithm. Finally, the proposed calibration method is implemented in a digital phosphor oscilloscope. Simulations and experimental testing indicate that this system shows good real-time performance and provides a high dynamic performance with an effective number of bits of 7.3 bits and a signal-to-noise ratio of 45.5574 dB. The wideband signal transceiver module forms the core component of the radar signal target simulator and the key module in measuring the Doppler shift. In this paper, we present a design for a miniaturized wideband signal transceiver module based on a PXIe bus, with an operating frequency range of 65 MHz–3 GHz, an instantaneous measurement bandwidth of 800 MHz on a standard 3U (where 1U = 4.445 cm) board with three slots. The module adopts a zero intermediate frequency transceiver, and the baseband uses two analog to digital converters, a field programmable gate array, and two digital to analog converters as the core hardware architecture. The module combines key technologies including variable-frequency local oscillator synthesis, radio-frequency broadband signal conditioning, and high-speed high-resolution baseband signal acquisition and generation. This paper describes a novel design for the Doppler shift function. Considering the limited size and volume of the module, Doppler shift technology combining a complex signal and a real signal was adopted to achieve full band coverage with an operating frequency range of 65 MHz–3 GHz. We verified that this module could generate the Doppler shift in the frequency band from −400 Hz to 400 Hz in steps of 2 Hz and with an error of ±2 Hz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Memory depth represents an oscilloscope's capability to continuously acquire and store sampling points at the highest real-time sampling rate. Improving the memory depth is conducive to improving the system's capability to analyze waveform details, but it will slow down the response time of the system. This paper proposes a high-speed deep memory data acquisition system with a real-time sampling rate of up to 10 GSPS and a memory depth up to 1 Gpts based on ultra-high-speed parallel sampling, waveform quick positioning and zooming, and waveform 3D mapping and display. This study focuses on the use of waveform quick positioning and zooming techniques under deep memory conditions to solve the slow response time and low waveform capture rate that are the result of improving the memory depth. This paper gives the experimental results for real-time signal data acquisition. The results show that adopting waveform quick positioning and zooming techniques achieved the following aims: significantly improved system response time, rapid positioning and display waveform details available to users, fast waveform capture rate and improved oscilloscope performance. Recently, light-induced domain reversal has been developed to a promising method for domain engineering, but the depth of reversed domain is only of several tens of microns, which greatly limits its practical applications. In this Letter, we fabricated domain patterns on the -z face of 1.0 mol % Mg doped near-stoichiometric lithium niobate with the assistance of a focal 532 nm laser, and then succeeded to transcribe these domain patterns from the -z to the +z face by applying external field without laser illumination. The transcribed domains have much larger depths, can sustain more than 100 times of the transcription cycles without large deformation, and can be erased by one transcription cycle with illumination of 532 nm laser. We have produced exchange-coupled FePt nanoparticle assemblies by chemical synthesis and subsequent thermal annealing. As the interparticle distances decrease by tuning the annealing conditions, interparticle interactions change from dipolar type to exchange type, and the magnetization reversal mechanism switches from rotation controlled to domain-nucleation controlled. With increasing annealing temperature, the coercivity first increases due to improved chemical ordering, and then drops significantly, resulting from excessive interparticle exchange coupling. In this work, a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method was developed for the synthesis of transition metal dichalcogenide alloy monolayers, with a composition gradient in the radial direction. The composition gradient was achieved by controlling the substrate cooling rate during the CVD growth. The two types of alloys, namely, WS2(1−x)Se2x and MoS2(1−x)Se2x, were found to exhibit an opposite composition gradient. This is attributed to their different cohesive energies. A two-dimensional Ising model is used to explain the growth mechanism, where two ends of the composition were modeled as a magnetically ordered phase and a paramagnetic phase. Thermoelectric measurements detect the asymmetry between the density of states above and below the chemical potential in a material. They provide insights into small variations in the density of states near the chemical potential, complementing electron transport measurements. Here, we report combined resistance and thermoelectric power measurements of vanadium dioxide (VO2), a prototypical correlated electron material, under ionic-liquid (IL) gating. We show that under our gating conditions, the charge transport below the metal-to-insulator-transition (MIT) temperature remains in the thermally activated regime, while the Seebeck coefficient exhibits an apparent transition from semiconducting to metallic behavior. The contrasting behavior indicates changes in the electronic structure upon IL gating, due to the formation of oxygen defect states. The experimental results are corroborated by numerical simulations based on a model density of states incorporating a gating-induced defect band. Our study reveals thermoelectric measurements to be a convenient and sensitive probe for the role of defect states induced by IL gating in suppressing the MIT in VO2, which remains benign in charge transport measurements, and possibly for studying defect states in other materials. The main objective of this work is to comprehensively provide a fundamental understanding of the entire process of the flame-pressure wave interactions with end-gas autoignition and detonation development in a confined chamber by two-dimensional numerical simulations with a stoichiometric hydrogen/air mixture. The flame dynamics, pressure wave propagation, and its structure evolution, together with the mechanism of autoignition and detonation development in the end gas, are analyzed in detail. Six stages, including spherical flame, finger flame, flame with its skirt touching the sidewalls, flame-pressure wave interactions, end-gas autoignition induced by the flame-pressure wave interactions, and detonation development, are observed for the flame development in the confined space. The results demonstrate that the flame-pressure wave multi-interactions result in violent oscillations of the flame shape and speed. Three stages of flame shape evolution during each interaction, backward propagation of the flame front, stretch of the flame front at the boundary layer, and formation of the tulip flame, are captured. A new mechanism in terms of combined effects of the viscous boundary layer and pressure waves is provided for the formation of the tulip flame. It is also found that the velocity distributions in the boundary layer show the trend of increase first and then decrease after the pressure waves pass the fields twice in the opposite directions. The autoignition occurrence and detonation initiation at different positions and different moments in the end-gas region are analyzed. It is indicated that the nonuniform temperature distribution induced by the reflections of pressure waves and the specific pressure wave structures can be responsible for this phenomenon. Because of the exponential increase of sampling rate, time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter (TIADC) has a fast growth in the high-speed applications. However, the channel mismatch error is a serious challenge for the performance of TIADC. In this article, we address the timing skew mismatch error and propose a novel adaptive calibration method. The principle and operating process of the calibration algorithm are explained. To validate the proposed technique, we designed a four-channel TIADC-based digital oscilloscope with a sampling rate of 10 GS/s. Based on this instrumentation platform, (i) calibration algorithm was implemented by hardware; and (ii) a test platform consisting of advanced instruments and tools was setup to testify the effect and robustness of proposed algorithm. Moreover, the technical details of instrumentation are described for the first time. The experimental results show that the calibration algorithm significantly suppresses the distortions due to timing skew mismatch error. The TIADC-based instrumentation achieves spurious-free dynamic range of 52.48 dB and effective number of bits of 5.83 bit, respectively. We studied the optical properties of a composition graded WS 2 (1 − x) Se 2 x alloy monolayer. A symmetric gradual composition gradient from a Se-rich center to the relatively less Se-rich edges of an equilateral triangle shaped flake is confirmed by Raman mapping. Photoluminescence (PL) mapping shows a large 100 meV variation in the exciton energy, resulting from the composition dependent bandgap variation and carrier localization. The alloying leads to symmetry breaking and large nonlinear optical susceptibility. Second harmonic generation (SHG) mapping was carried out to study the non-linear properties and additionally to determine the lattice strain of the alloy flake. In contrast to PL and Raman mappings, SHG intensity is found to be spatially uniform. However, polarization dependent SHG reveals a unidirectional strain parallel to the (zigzag) edge of the flake, in addition to the sixfold symmetry expected from the transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) lattice. Our results suggest potential applications of composition graded TMD alloys as ultra-compact color-tunable light sources and miniaturized spectrometers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report unconventional thermoelectric power (Seebeck coefficient, S) in L10 structured FePt films. The temperature dependence of S can be well fitted by a phenomenological expression consisting of electron diffusion and magnon-drag contributions. Interestingly, the magnon drag coefficient carries an opposite sign to that of electron diffusion, revealing a dominant contribution from the elusive electron-magnon Umklapp scattering. Density-functional theory calculations identify several bands crossing the Brillouin zone boundaries, facilitating the Umklapp process. The large spin–orbit coupling in FePt results in strong mixing of majority and minority spins among some of those bands, greatly enhancing the electron-magnon scattering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For wideband receiver systems, it is challenging to compensate the in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) phase mismatch by traditional methods, especially with a time delay deviation (TDD) between the I/Q channels. Considering the above situation, this paper proposes a full-scale I/Q phase imbalance model concerning TDD. The model divides phase mismatch into two parts, i.e., the linear phase (LP) part and the nonlinear phase part, and compensates each part with the corresponding compensation module separately. The design strategy of the compensation module is innovatively transformed into a constrained nonlinear optimization problem, and a metaheuristic algorithm, the flower pollination algorithm (FPA), is utilized to be the optimizer. The results of the contrast simulation with the LP elimination method show the efficiency of the proposed method. In addition, the superiority of the FPA-based structure is verified by comparing with other metaheuristic algorithms, the artificial bee colony technique, the bat algorithm, and the differential evolution algorithm, in terms of the compensation accuracy, algorithm stability, runtime consumption, and convergence performance. Ultimately, the image rejection ratio improvement on the actual platform after compensation is measured, which validates the proposed compensation structure and the corresponding optimization method practically, and the FPA is still the best choice among the competent optimizers. We report the magnetotransport properties of self-assembled Co@CoO nanoparticle arrays at temperatures below 100 K. Resistance shows thermally activated behavior that can be fitted by the general expression of R∝ exp{(T0/T)ν}. Efros–Shklovskii variable range hopping (ν=1/2) and simple activation (hard gap, ν=1) dominate the high and low temperature region, respectively, with a strongly temperature-dependent transition regime in between. A giant positive magnetoresistance (MR) of >1400% is observed at 10 K, which decreases with increasing temperature. The positive MR and most of its features can be explained by the Zeeman splitting of the localized states that suppresses the spin dependent hopping paths in the presence of on-site Coulomb repulsion. Self-assembly of FePt and Fe[sub 3]O[sub 4] nanoparticles of different sizes led to various FePt-Fe[sub 3]O[sub 4] nanocomposites. Annealing the composite under reducing atmosphere at 650 and 700 °C induced magnetically hard FePt phase and magnetically soft Fe[sub 3]Pt phase. The FePt and Fe[sub 3]Pt phases were either linked by a common interface or coexisted within one grain as domains with sizes <10 nm. This ensures the effective exchange coupling of magnetically hard and soft phases. DC offsets in a quadrature mixing structure will affect the system performance. This paper proposes a Hilbert transform-based algorithm to blindly calibrate the DC offsets by filtering the inphase and quadrature signals with the same Hilbert filters. Compared with the traditional averaging-based method, this method consumes less time and resources. Moreover, the proposed method need not interrupt analog-to-digital converter's conversion, featuring the characteristics of high efficiency and good real-time performance. The Matlab simulation results verify the correctness of the proposed algorithm, and finally, an experimental platform is designed in detail to verify the practicability of this blind calibration algorithm. Carrier-dopant exchange interactions in Mn-doped PbS colloidal quantum dots were studied by circularly polarized magneto-photoluminescence. Mn substitutional doping leads to paramagnetic behavior down to 5 K. While undoped quantum dots show negative circular polarization, Mn doping changes its sign to positive. A circular polarization value of 40% was achieved at T = 7 K and B = 7 tesla. The results are interpreted in terms of Zeeman splitting of the band edge states in the presence of carrier-dopant exchange interactions that are qualitatively different from the s,p-d exchange interactions in II-VI systems. The hard magnetic properties of Fe3Se4 nanostructures were studied both experimentally and theoretically. Magnetic measurements showed that Fe3Se4 nanoparticles can exhibit giant coercivity exceeding 40 kOe at low temperature (10 K). This unusually large coercivity is attributed to the uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the monoclinic structure of Fe3Se4 with ordered cation vacancies. The measured anisotropy constant is 1.0 × 107 erg/cm3, consistent with the result from first-principles calculations. Ordered FePt nanodot arrays with extremely high density have been developed by physical vapor deposition using porous alumina templates as evaporation masks. Nanodot diameter of 18 nm and periodicity of 25 nm have been achieved, resulting in an areal density exceeding 1×1012 dots/in.2. Rapid thermal annealing converts the disordered fcc to L10 phase, resulting in (001)-oriented FePt nanodot arrays with perpendicular anisotropy and large coercivity, without the need of epitaxy. High anisotropy and coercivity, perpendicular easy axis orientation and extremely high density are desirable features for future magnetic data storage media applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the authors' response to their article "Inversed tunneling magnetoresistance in hybrid FePt/Fe3O4 core/shell nanoparticles systems," which appeared in a 2011 issue. The authors argue that their mechanisms for the inversion of magnetoresistance (MR) in FePt/Fe3O4 core/shell nanoparticles system are the resonant tunneling via localized states. The authors emphasize that the comparison of the inversed MR not observed for other interface combinations is irrelevant.
