The results of investigation of the surface of a copper substrate modified by titanium ions are presented. Using TEM it has been established that a two-level micro- and nanoporous nanocrystalline structure is formed due to simultaneous ion etching, heating, radiation-stimulated diffusion in the surface layer of the metal substrate. When bombarded with titanium ions the phases of the equilibrium diagram of the Cu-Ti were formed with a characteristic dimension of the elements of the intermetallic “net” structure of 1–4 μm in size. This article discusses the emergence - from first principles - of collectivity and clustering in light and intermediate-mass nuclei, up to the calcium region, with implications for reproducing enhanced E2 transitions in deformed nuclei, and for further understanding the formation of alpha clustering. Structure calculations use nucleon-nucleon chiral potentials and are based on the ab initio symmetry-adapted no-core shell model (SA-NCSM) that expands the reach of the no-core shell-model theory to heavier nuclei and enables the description of spatially enhanced nuclear configurations. This is achieved by using a physically relevant symmetry-adapted basis, which exploits approximate symmetries that, we find, dominate the nuclear dynamics. Important implications that have deepened our understanding of emergent phenomena in nuclei, such as enhanced collectivity, giant resonances, pairing, and clustering, are discussed for Be, C, O, Ne, and Ti isotopes. We investigated the natTi(d,x)48V reaction cross-sections by using a stacked-foil activation technique in combination with HPGe γ-ray spectrometry at the AVF cyclotron facility of the RIKEN RI Beam Factory, Wako, Japan. An overall good agreement is found between the measured data and the literature ones, whereas partial agreement is obtained with the theoretical data extracted from the TENDL-2011 library provided by the TALYS model calculations. Measured cross-sections of natTi(d,x)48V reactions find significance in monitoring of deuteron beam parameters from threshold to 50 MeV. Furthermore, IAEA recommended cross-sections of natTi(d,x)48V reaction has been verified here, and found a very good agreement. Additionally, measured cross-sections of the natTi(d,x)48V reactions find significance in various practical applications including nuclear medicine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As an attractive radionuclide for positron emission tomography, this study explores the extraction and reactivity of 45Ti produced via the 45Sc(p,n)45Ti reaction on a GE PETtrace. Using a small hydroxamate column, we have demonstrated an overall recovery of >50% of 45Ti in ∼1 mL of 1M oxalic acid. Conditions for reacting with desferal were also explored, with effective specific activities up to 38 GBq/μmol obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions are mediated by the στ operator. Owing to its simplicity and also its spin-isospin nature, GT transitions play key roles in the studies of nuclear structure as well as astro-nuclear processes. In violent neutrino-induced reactions at the core-collapse stage of type II supernovae, Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions starting from stable as well as unstable pf-shell nuclei play important roles. We study GT transitions starting from 47Ti in a high-resolution (3He,t) charge-exchange reactions at 0° and at an intermediate incident energy of 140 MeV/nucleon at Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Osaka. Individual GT transitions up to high excitations were observed. Assuming the isospin symmetry for the strengths of Tz = ±3/2→±1/2 analogous GT transitions, we can deduce the detailed strength distribution starting from mirror unstable nucleus 47Mn.
