Cyclic Extrusion and Compression (CEC) is one of the techniques of Implementing Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) to polycrystalline materials in order to refine the grain size ranging from submicrometer to nanometer level resulting in improved mechanical properties of the material. In this work the influence of Cyclic Extrusion and Compression (CEC) on compressive behavior of Aluminum Alloy AA6060 is studied. The results shows that there is a significant improvement in the compressive yield strength of CEC processed samples compared to sample without CEC processed. It is also noticed that the elastic property increases from 68 MPa to 87 MPa, percentage of reduction in length gets reduces from 79 % to 56% and the compressive yield strength value increases from 210 MPa to 350 MPa at the end of 3rd cycle of CEC process. This present research deals with the fabrication of Al 2014 reinforced with boron carbide and short copper basalt fiber based hybrid metal matrix composite through stir casting process and evaluate corrosion behavior in sea water by weight loss method. The microstructure of this composite was examined and observed uniform distribution of reinforced particles in the matrix. The corrosion characteristics of Al 2014 / B4C/short basalt fiber based hybrid composites were experimentally assessed. The corrosion test was carried out at sea water solution for different exposure time. The results indicated that corrosion rate of metal matrix composites was decreased with increasing the wt% of reinforcements under the corrosive atmosphere irrespective of exposure time and sea water and also result depicted that the effect of Boron carbide on Al 2014/Short copper coated basalt fiber shows good corrosion resistance as compared to the effect of Basalt fiber. Corroded surfaces of the composite specimen were analyzed using weight loss method to predicting the corrosion properties for different exposure time. This corrosion analysis can be utilized to replace the conventional marine application materials with aluminium Hybrid metal matrix composites having better corrosion characteristics. In the current study, Al7005 matrix alloy and S-glass + Fly-ash hybrid MMCswith different weight fractions (Al7005 +1% S-Glass+2% Fly-ash (A1), Al7005 +1% S-Glass+4% Fly-ash (A2), Al7005 +1% S-Glass+6% Fly-ash (A3) ) were fabricated thru stir casting, later extruded and studied for their microstructure, mechanical and wear properties of these hybrid MMCs were evaluated and compared with as-cast alloy before and after extrusion. The microstructure of the hybrid MMCs shows a relatively uniform distribution of S-glass and Fly-ash in the Al matrix. The mechanical and tribological properties of composites improved with increasing the weight percentage of S-glass and Fly-ash. Fractographic surface morphology was studied using SEM. Al7005 +1% S-Glass+6% Fly-ash (A3) hybrid extruded MMCs displayed superior results i.e. mechanical and wear properties compared to A1 and A2 hybrid MMCs. The current work highlights the significant features of the casting technique and characterization of S-glass and Fly-ash reinforced hybrid Al7005 MMCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
