A one-dimensional energy well model for the calculation of the coercivity of magneto-optic materials was presented. The model was based on domain wall motion and was extended to take the influence of energy barriers into account. It was shown that when the applied field was gradually increased, the wall is moved nearer to the energy barrier until the critical barrier is exceeded.

The complete moving Preisach-derived hysteresis model for magnetization was characterized. The results showed that the derivative of the major remanent loop was not a symmetrical function of the applied magnetic field. In addition, the complete moving hysteresis model is capable of computing an asymmetrical variation with a symmetrical Preisach function. The asymmetry was attributed to the effects of reversible magnetization.
