Abstract

The article presents a study that analyzed the extent to which depression mediates the relationship between obesity and asthma in adults. Questionnaires include the Back Depression Inventory (BDI)-II and the Asthma Control Questionnaire while body mass index (BMI) was based on self-reported height and weight. It concludes that depression and high BMI are associated with worse asthma control and recommends further studies on the role of depressive symptoms in weight and asthma control.

Abstract

The article focuses on sex differences in the psychological distress and psychiatric disorders in COPD patients. A cross-sectional study assessed the prevalence of anxiety and mood disorders, quality of life and psychological distress in 62 women and 54 men with COPD. The study reveal that psychiatric disorders are nearly two times higher in COPD women than in men and are at least three times higher in COPD patients compare to the general population.
