Business executive Ralph Metzler cured his job burnout by forming a business out of his old love for magic. Metzler's frustration as a department head at the Government Technology Services Inc and the subsequent merger of his Graphex business with one of his business partners prompted him to go into the personal business of magic performances. Metzler had to strive for six months with free magic presentations before going commercial. Metzler has grossed $62,000 in 1996 and projects a gross of $100,000 for 1998. He plans on expanding his performances into a cable television special and produce an interactive video.

Custer Environmental Pres. David Custer decided to give out promotional shirts embroidered the company's logo to clients. However, he discovered that existing embroidery services in Washington, DC, turned out low-quality and expensive products. He convinced his wife, Marcia, to establish her own embroidery service which became known as Chesapeake Embroidery and Design Inc.
