Conductive hydrogel-based ionic skins have attracted immense attention due to their great application prospects in wearable electronic devices. However, simultaneously achieving a combination of a single hydrogel system and excellent comprehensive performance (i.e., mechanical durability, electrical sensitivity, broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, and biocompatibility) remains a challenge. Thus, a novel poly(ionic liquid) hydrogel consisting of poly(acrylamide- co -lauryl methacrylate- co -methyl-uracil-imidazolium chloride- co -2-acryloylamino-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid) (AAm-LMA-MUI-AMPS) was prepared by a micellar copolymerization method. Herein, MUI serves as a supramolecular crosslinker and conductive and bacteriostatic components. Owing to the multiple supramolecular crosslinks and hydrophobic association in the network, the hydrogel exhibits excellent mechanical properties (624 kPa of breaking stress and 1243 kPa of compression stress), skin-like modulus (46.2 kPa), stretchability (1803%), and mechanical durability (200 cycles under 500% strain can be completely recovered). Moreover, with the coordinated combination of each monomer, the hydrogel exhibits the unique advantage of high conductivity (up to 59.34 mS/cm). Hence, the hydrogel was further assembled as an ionic skin sensor, which exhibited a gauge factor (GF) of 10.74 and 7.27 with and without LiCl over a broad strain range (1-1000%), respectively. Furthermore, the hydrogel sensor could monitor human movement in different strain ranges, including body movement and vocal cord vibration. In addition, the antibacterial activity and biocompatibility of the hydrogel sensor were investigated. These findings present a new strategy for the design of new-generation wearable devices with multiple functions.

Nowadays, the simultaneous inhibition of two or more pathways plays an increasingly important role in cancer treatment due to the complex and diverse pathogenesis of cancer, and the combination of the cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6) inhibitor and PIM1 inhibitor was found to generate synergistic effects in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatment. Therefore, we discovered a novel lead 1 targeting CDK6/PIM1 via pharmacophore-based and structure-based virtual screening, synthesized five different series of new derivates, and obtained a potent and balanced dual CDK6/PIM1 inhibitor 51 , which showed high kinase selectivity. Meanwhile, 51 displayed an excellent safety profile and great pharmacokinetic properties. Furthermore, 51 displayed stronger potency in reducing the burden of AML than palbociclib and SMI-4a in vivo . In summary, we offered a new direction for AML treatment and provided a great lead compound for AML preclinical studies.

The International Symposium on Lipid Science and Health (ISLSH) has been organized annually by the Oil Crops Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (OCRI-CAAS) since 2016. The purpose of the symposium was to bring together the leading lipid science and health researchers throughout the world to discuss the current state of knowledge as well as research needs with respect to chemistry and beneficial health properties of lipids. The Fifth International Symposium on Lipid Science and Health was held on October 2020 in Wuhan, Hubei, China. Speakers from China, the United States, Australia, Finland, and other countries delivered wonderful presentations. The presentations covered such diverse topics as lipid profiling and characterization, lipid preparation and modification, lipid improvement and regulation, and lipid nutrition and health. As a record of the symposium proceedings, this special issue comprises a selection of 27 papers from oral presentations and poster contributions and is prefaced by this introduction.

Cellulose-based composite macrogels made by cellulose fiber/cellulose nanofiber (CCNM) were used as an intestine delivery vehicle for probiotics. Cellulose nanofiber (CNF) was prepared by a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical (TEMPO)-mediated oxidation system, and the carboxyl groups in CNF acted as pore size and pH responsibility regulators in CCNMs to regulate the probiotics loading and controlled release property. The macrogel presented a porosity of 92.68% with a CNF content of 90%, and the corresponding released viable Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) was up to 2.68 × 10 8 cfu/mL. The porous structure and high porosity benefited L. plantarum cells to infiltrate into the core of macrogels. In addition, the macrogels made with high contents of CNF showed sustainable release of L. plantarum cells and delivered enough viable cells to the desired region of intestine tracts. The porous cellulose macrogels prepared by a green and environmental friendly method show potential in the application of fabricating targeted delivery vehicles of bioactive agents.
