Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are ideal sacrificial templates and precursors with specialized micro- and nanostructures. In this paper, bimetallic MOFs-derived Fe2O3/In2O3 composites were proposed for detecting triethylamine (TEA) gas with high sensitivity and low working temperature by a simple one-step oil bath method. The samples were analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS for structural morphology and chemical state, and their gas performance was investigated. The findings demonstrate that Fe2O3/In2O3 nanotubes exhibit remarkable sensitivity to TEA gas. The response value to 5 ppm of TEA gas is 6250 at 100 °C, which is 11.4 times higher than that of In2O3. The enhanced sensing performance can be attributed to the generation of additional chemical absorbed oxygen and the formation of heterojunctions, as evidenced by experimental and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Printed mesoscopic perovskite solar cells (PM-PSCs) are promising for industrial production and large-scale applications due to their advantageous traits of low cost, simple fabrication, and outstanding stability. Nevertheless, in the absence of a hole transport layer to extract holes and poor interfacial contact during the procedure of printing, PM-PSC structures typically suffer from low efficiency and carrier recombination. Herein, a mesoporous nanocrystal TiO2 (M-N-TiO2) derived from two-dimensional titanium metal–organic frameworks (2D Ti-MOFs) is utilized as the electron transport material. The results reveal that M-N-TiO2 exhibits superior characteristics compared to commercial TiO2 (P25), including increased porosity, larger specific surface area, and bigger diameter. Due to the enhanced contact between M-N-TiO2 and perovskite as well as the increased filling of perovskite within the mesoporous layer, a consequential improvement in perovskite crystallization is observed. This accelerates the electron extraction process and decreases the rate of carrier recombination. Simultaneously, the presence of organic molecules in M-N-TiO2 contributes to the effective passivation of perovskite defects, consequently reducing recombination losses. Owing to the synergistic effect of electron extraction promotion and recombination losses, the fabricated PM-PSC based on M-N-TiO2 delivers a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.66% with an improved FF of 74.09% compared with the P25-based device. Furthermore, long-term stability is achieved with the M-N-TiO2-based device. Sensitive and stable triethylamine (TEA) gas sensors are desirable for environmental and human safety. However, the high operating temperature of the metal-oxide-based gas sensors poses a limitation on their wide applications. Herein, we fabricate an exceptional TEA gas sensor based on the core–shell heterostructure comprising crystalline CuO and amorphous In2O3/ZnO (CuInZnO) via a facile electrodeposition method. Remarkably, the optimum gas sensor (CuInZnO-3) exhibits an outstanding gas response (∼25) toward a 10 ppm TEA at room temperature. Moreover, CuInZnO-3 shows excellent selectivity, linear response, and stability. The superior sensing performance can be mainly ascribed to the unique core–shell nanorod heterostructure with a high specific surface area, allowing the formation of p–n junctions. The amorphous nature of the In2O3/ZnO shell also enriches the active oxygen on the surface and enhances gas adsorption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Detecting 1 ppm acetone at high humidity is essential for a noninvasive diabetes diagnosis. Metal oxide gas sensors are a promising technology to achieve high sensitivity acetone monitoring. Here, we fabricated Pt-sensitized In2O3 nanotubes, and the gas-sensing performance was tested against eight gases. The fiber structure contributes to the uniform dispersion of Pt onto the In2O3. Pt-sensitized In2O3 nanotubes have lower optimal operating temperatures and higher sensitivity and selectivity than those of the In2O3 nanotubes. The 0.75 wt % Pt-In2O3 sensor has the maximum sensitivity (113) to 10 ppm acetone at 300 °C; the response and response time to 1 ppm acetone are 19.9 and 10 s, respectively. The response to 1 ppm acetone still has 9.83 at the relative humidity of 83%. It also has a low limit of detection (8.4 ppb) and good long-term stability (30 days). These results illustrate that Pt-sensitized In2O3 nanotubes have the potential for a noninvasive diabetes diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using n-type and p-type semiconductor materials to construct p–n heterostructures has proven effective for improving gas-sensing properties. In this study, we synthesized the nanocomposites of SnO2 derived from a metal–organic framework (MOF) and LaFeO3 by loading atomic silver on its surface. The response value (Ra/Rg) of the nanocomposites to 10 ppm formaldehyde reached 498 at 140 °C, but they showed almost no response to 50 ppm interference volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the response–recovery time was 105 and 27 s, respectively. The crystal structure, heterojunction structure, chemical elements, and sensitive mechanism were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetry (TG), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) elemental mapping. The characterizations revealed that the improvement of gas sensitivity was mainly due to the MOF-driven strategy, p–n heterojunction, and electron sensitization effect of Ag. This work provides a method and idea for preparing composites and shows the potential application value of LaFeO3@SnO2/Ag nanomaterials in formaldehyde gas detection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For a fixed porous framework, developing an efficient composite material with selective removal of oil and water from an oil–water mixture is of significance but challenging because of the effect of its decreased pore size and porosity and single wettability. Herein, a Janus fabric via a general strategy of surface hydrophobization, oxidation treatment, and chemical bath deposition is constructed. The obtained composite fabric consists of a hydrophilic Co-(CO3)0.5OH·0.11H2O nanoneedle/cotton fiber side and a hydrophobic cotton fiber side, which endows it with a unidirectional water transportation capability and exhibits an effective separation for both light and heavy oil–water mixtures under gravity. Especially using the water wetted composite fabric as a separation cell, the built-in lyophobic layer originating from fluid passed through the nonwetting region of wetted fabric decreases the unfavorable contact between lyophobic interface and separated liquid, and the permeation flux is enhanced by 214.5% for water and by 112.5% for oil, respectively, compared to that in the pristine fabric, whereas it has no effect on the separation efficiency of a heavy oil–water mixture. Meanwhile, the Janus composite fabric exhibits an excellent oil–water separation stability and durability and is easily recycled for long-term use. The facile Janus material synthesis strategy is available on various substrates including melamine sponge, Ni foam, cellulose paper, and other nanosheet arrays on cotton fabric. Raman and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy are highly specific and sensitive optical modalities that have been extensively investigated in diverse applications. Noise reduction is demanding in the preprocessing procedure, especially for weak Raman/SERS spectra. Existing denoising methods require manual optimization of parameters, which is time-consuming and laborious and cannot always achieve satisfactory performance. Deep learning has been increasingly applied in Raman/SERS spectral denoising but usually requires massive training data, where the true labels may not exist. Aiming at these challenges, this work presents a generic Raman spectrum denoising algorithm with self-supervised learning for accurate, rapid, and robust noise reduction. A specialized network based on U-Net is established, which first extracts high-level features and then restores key peak profiles of the spectra. A subsampling strategy is proposed to refine the raw Raman spectrum and avoid the underlying biased interference. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been validated by a broad range of spectral data, exhibiting its strong generalization ability. In the context of photosafe detection of deep-seated tumors, our method achieved signal-to-noise ratio enhancement by over 400%, which resulted in a significant increase in the limit of detection thickness from 10 to 18 cm. Our approach demonstrates superior denoising performance compared to the state-of-the-art denoising methods. The occlusion method further showed that the proposed algorithm automatically focuses on characterized peaks, enhancing the interpretability of our approach explicitly in Raman and SERS spectroscopy.

The radiation-induced skin injury (RISI) remains a great challenge for clinical wound management and care after radiotherapy, as patients will suffer from the acute radiation injury and long-term chronic inflammatory damage during the treatment. The excessive ROS in the early acute stage and prolonged inflammatory response in the late healing process always hinder therapeutic efficiency. Herein, we developed an extracellular matrix (ECM)-mimetic multifunctional glycopeptide hydrogel (oCP@As) to promote and accelerate RISI repair via a dual-modulation strategy in different healing stages. The oCP@As hydrogel not only can form an ECM-like nanofiber structure through the Schiff base reaction but also exhibits ROS scavenging and DNA double-strand break repair abilities, which can effectively reduce the acute radiation damage. Meanwhile, the introduction of oxidized chondroitin sulfate, which is the ECM polysaccharide-like component, enables regulation of the inflammatory response by adsorption of inflammatory factors, accelerating the repair of chronic inflammatory injury. The animal experiments demonstrated that oCP@As can significantly weaken RISI symptoms, promote epidermal tissue regeneration and angiogenesis, and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine expression. Therefore, this multifunctional glycopeptide hydrogel dressing can effectively attenuate RISI symptoms and promote RISI healing, showing great potential for clinical applications in radiotherapy protection and repair.

SARS-CoV-2 has still been threatening global public health with its emerging variants. Our previous work reported lead compound JZD-07 that displayed good 3CL pro inhibitory activity. Here, an in-depth structural optimization for JZD-07 was launched to obtain more desirable drug candidates for the therapy of SARS-CoV-2 infection, in which 54 novel derivatives were designed and synthesized by a structure-based drug design strategy. Among them, 24 compounds show significantly enhanced 3CL pro inhibitory potencies with IC 50 values less than 100 nM, and 11 compounds dose-dependently inhibit the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant. In particular, compound 49 has the most desirable antiviral activity with EC 50 of 0.272 ± 0.013 μM against the delta variant, which was more than 20 times stronger than JZD-07 . Oral administration of 49 could significantly reduce the lung viral copies of mice, exhibiting a more favorable therapeutic potential. Overall, this investigation presents a promising drug candidate for further development to treat SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Oxygen vacancies play an essential role in gas-sensitive materials, but the intrinsic oxides are poorly controlled and contain low oxygen vacancy concentrations. In this work, we prepared La 0.9 Fe 1- x Sn x O 3 microspheres with high sensitivity and controllability by a simple hydrothermal method, and then, we demonstrated that it has many oxygen ion defects by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance characterization. The gas sensor exhibited ultrahigh response, specific recognition of formaldehyde gas, and excellent moisture resistance. By comparing the composites with different doping ratios, it was found that the highest catalytic activity was reached when x = 0.75, and the response value of La 0.9 Fe 0.75 Sn 0.25 O 3 hollow microspheres at 200 °C reached 73-10 ppm of formaldehyde, which is 188% higher than that of intrinsic LaFeO 3 hollow microspheres. On the one hand, due to the absence of A-site La 3+ and the replacement of B-site Fe 3+ by Sn 4+ , a large number of oxygen vacancies are induced on the surface and in the interior of the materials; on the other hand, it is also related to the large specific surface area and gas channels caused by the particular structure.

Triethylamine (TEA) is a serious threat to people's health, and it is still a challenge to detect TEA at ppb level near room temperature (RT). Herein, we developed a simple, low-cost, low-temperature, and ultra-sensitive TEA sensor based on Pd-SnO 2 /In 2 O 3 composites. First, SnO 2 nanoparticles were obtained by the pyrolysis of Sn-MOF@SnO 2 precursor (MOF: metal organic framework), and Pd-SnO 2 /In 2 O 3 composites were prepared by further compounding and doping. The results show that the Pd-SnO 2 /In 2 O 3 sensor is highly sensitive to TEA gas at near RT (at 60 °C, the sensor response to 10 ppm TEA is 12,000, the response/recovery (res/rec) time is 51 s/493 s, and at 30 °C, the response value also reaches 1380, the res/rec time is 66 s/610 s), along with good selectivity, stability, and moisture resistance. Even at 10 °C operating temperature and 75% relative humidity (RH) in a low-temperature and high-humidity environment, it still maintains a high sensitivity of over 1000 to 10 ppm TEA, which shows great application potential in TEA detection. The reason for the enhanced performance of the 0.5%Pd-SnO 2 /In 2 O 3 sensor can be attributed to a large number of adsorbed oxygens on the unique structure of the material, the good charge transfer ability of the n-n-type heterojunction between SnO 2 and In 2 O 3 , the chemical sensitization and electronic sensitization of Pd nanoparticles, and the catalytic spillover effect. This work will provide a new approach for preparing sensors with good comprehensive properties, making full use of the advantages of the material structure-activity relationship.

SnO 2 has been a commonly researched gas-sensing material due to its low cost, good performance, and good stability. However, gas sensors based on pure SnO 2 usually show a low response or high working temperature. In this work, laminar SnO 2 was obtained by using a Sn-based metal organic framework(Sn-MOF)@SnO 2 as a precursor. Sn-MOF@SnO 2 is prepared at low temperatures using water and dimethylformamide as a solvent, which is simple, low cost, and easily reproducible. After sintering, Sn-MOF@SnO 2 is derived to SnO 2 with rich adsorbed oxygen, large specific surface area, and unique nanoparticle piled pores, thus showing excellent gas-sensing properties. The prepared SnO 2 has an ultrahigh response value of 10,000 to 10 ppm formaldehyde at an optimal working temperature of 120 °C, a fast response/recovery time of 33 s/142 s, and an actual detection limit of lower than 10 ppb as well as high selectivity and high stability. Density functional theory calculations show that the exposed (110) plane of oxygen-rich vacancies in laminar SnO 2 can effectively increase the coadsorption capacity of O 2 and formaldehyde molecules, thereby improving the formaldehyde gas-sensing performance of the material. The present original approach paves the way to design advanced materials with excellent gas-sensing properties as well as broad application prospects in formaldehyde monitoring.

The receptor recognition of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 relies on the "down-to-up" conformational change in the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike (S) protein. Therefore, understanding the process of this change at the molecular level facilitates the design of therapeutic agents. With the help of coarse-grained molecular dynamic simulations, we provide evidence showing that the conformational dynamics of the S protein are globally cooperative. Importantly, an allosteric path was discovered that correlates the motion of the RBD with the motion of the junction between the subdomain 1 (SD1) and the subdomain 2 (SD2) of the S protein. Building on this finding, we designed non-RBD binding modulators to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 by prohibiting the conformational change of the S protein. Their inhibition effect and function stages at inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 were evaluated experimentally. In summary, our studies establish a molecular basis for future therapeutic agent design through allosteric effects.

Raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) are accumulated during the late stage of seed development and hydrolyzed during seed germination. The process of raffinose hydrolysis during seed germination and how this process affects seed vigor remains unknown. We report here that maize alkaline α-galactosidase 1 (ZmAGA1) protein is translationally induced and is capable of hydrolyzing RFOs as well as a precursor, galactinol, during seed germination. Constitutively overexpressing ZmAGA 1 in Arabidopsis decreased both RFOs and galactinol contents of mature, desiccated, and 30 hours after imbibition (HAI) seeds, yet enhanced the seed germination percentage under either salt or somewhat osmotic-stress conditions at earlier times during the time course. However, ZmAGA 1 overexpression also decreased the seed aging tolerance of mature, desiccated seeds as compared with wild type (WT) or those overexpressing GFP . Compared to that of WT control seeds, the atsip 2 (mutant of Arabidopsis AtSIP 2 ( seed imbibition protein 2, encoding alkaline α-galactosidase)) seeds have similar RFOs and galactinol contents in mature, desiccated seeds but significantly increased the amount of these metabolites at 30 HAI. This retention of RFOs and galactinol in atsip 2 results in seeds that exhibit lowered seed germination percentage under either salt or osmotic stress conditions, and yet, increased seed aging tolerance relative to WT. Similarly, when maize seeds were imbibed in the presence of a specific α-galactosidase inhibitor (1-deoxygalactonojirimycin) as compared to those imbibed in water, greater amounts of raffinose and galactinol were detected; the seeds exhibited decreased seed germination percentages but increased seed aging tolerance. Taken together, these data suggest that both maize seed germination and seed aging tolerance can be simultaneously regulated through careful temporal manipulation of ZmAGA 1 expression.

Radiotherapy (RT) combined with chemotherapy remains a dominant therapeutic manner in clinical tumor treatment, which is irreplaceable in a short term. To seek an intrinsic connection of combined chemoradiation therapy and maximize the antitumor efficacy, we developed a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-sensitive nanomicelle drug delivery system based on a self-assembled amphiphilic polymer, hyaluronic acid- graft -poly-(propylene sulfide) (HA-PPS). A chemical radiosensitizer, doxorubicin (DOX), was encapsulated into the core of HA-PPS nanomicelles, constituting the DOX-loaded nanomicelles (HA-PPS@DOX NMs) with a spherical structure of around 205.10 ± 11.33 nm diameter with a narrow polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.135 ± 0.01. When combined with RT, the ROS-sensitive HA-PPS@DOX NMs disintegrated and released great drug cargos, which further enhanced cytotoxicity. Meanwhile, as a radiosensitizer, the released DOX sensitized cancer cells to radiotherapy, which has been confirmed by an enhanced sensitizer enhancement ratio (SER) value of 1.78 contributing to the increased cytotoxicity of concurrent chemoradiation tumor therapy, as evidenced by the improvement of half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 value) of DOX from 2.316 to 0.8235 μg/mL. Moreover, in vivo studies revealed that HA-PPS@DOX NMs exhibited prolonged circulation time and improved tumor accumulation. Particularly, the released DOX triggered by radiation strengthened radiotherapy sensitization in return. Consequently, these superiorities of HA-PPS@DOX NMs shown by the concurrent chemoradiation tumor therapy resulted in an ideal tumor inhibition rate of 70.4%, thus providing a promising ROS-sensitive nanomedicine for cancer treatment., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing financial interest., (© 2021 The Authors. Fluorinated linear organic solvents have great potential in improving the safety and lifetime of next-generation Li metal batteries. However, this group of solvents is underexplored. Here, we investigate the molecular and interfacial reactivity properties of seven partially and fully fluorinated linear carbonates designed based on conventional solvents. Using density functional theory, we find the highest occupied molecular orbital levels decrease with increasing substitution of the fluorinated functional groups, implying that fluorination, to a first approximation, improves the stability toward high voltage cathodes. On the basis of the simulated decomposition mechanisms and statistical analyses, we find that a fluorinated linear carbonate with partial fluorination at the methyl component is more accessible in terms of degradation and LiF nascence formation, leading to a potentially LiF-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). The molecular design concepts and the computational techniques presented are transferable to ester and ether systems, facilitating the navigation in a large chemical design space.

Li metal batteries (LMBs) are crucial for electrifying transportation and aviation. Engineering electrolytes to form desired solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) is one of the most promising approaches to enable stable long-lasting LMBs. Among the liquid electrolytes explored, fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) has seen great success in leading to desirable SEI properties for enabling stable cycling of LMBs. Given the many facets to desirable SEI properties, numerous descriptors and mechanisms have been proposed. To build a detailed mechanistic understanding, we analyze varying degrees of fluorination of the same prototype molecule, chosen to be ethylene carbonate (EC) to tease out the interfacial reactivity at the Li metal/electrolyte. Using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we study the effect of mono-, di-, tri-, and tetra-fluorine substitutions of EC on its reactivity with Li surface facets in the presence and absence of Li salt. We find that the formation of LiF at the early stage of SEI formation, posited as a desirable SEI component, depends on the F-abstraction mechanism rather than the number of fluorine substitution. The best illustrations of this are cis - and trans -difluoro ECs, where F-abstraction is spontaneous with the trans case, while the cis case needs to overcome a nonzero energy barrier. Using a Pearson correlation map, we find that the extent of initial chemical decomposition quantified by the associated reaction free energy is linearly correlated with the charge transferred from the Li surface and the number of covalent-like bonds formed at the surface. The effect of salt and the surface facet have a much weaker role in determining the decompositions at the immediate electrolyte/electrode interfaces. Putting all of this together, we find that tetra-FEC could act as a high-performing SEI modifier as it leads to a more homogeneous, denser LiF-containing SEI. Using this methodology, future investigations will explore -CF 3 functionalization and other backbone molecules (linear carbonates).

Raffinose, an oligosaccharide found in many seeds, plays an important role in seed vigor; however, the regulatory mechanism governing raffinose biosynthesis remains unclear. We report here that maize W22 wild type (WT) seeds, but not W22 viviparous1 ( zmvp1) mutant seeds, start accumulating galactinol and raffinose 28 days after pollination (DAP). Transcriptome analysis of the zmvp1 embryo showed that the expression of GALACTINOL SYNTHASE2 ( GOLS2) was down-regulated relative to WT. Further experiments showed that the expression of ZmGOLS2 was up-regulated by ZmABI5 but not by ZmVP1, and it was further increased by the coexpression of ZmABI5 and ZmVP1 in maize protoplasts. ZmABI5 interacted with ZmVP1, while ZmABI5, but not ZmVP1, directly binds to the ZmGOLS2 promoter. Together, all of the findings suggest that ZmVP1 interacts with ZmABI5 and regulates ZmGOLS2 expression and raffinose accumulation in maize seeds.

Inadvertent photosensitizer-activation and singlet-oxygen generation hampers clinical application of photodynamic therapies of superficial tumors or subcutaneous infections. Therefore, a reversible photoswitchable system was designed in micellar nanocarriers using ZnTPP as a photosensitizer and BDTE as a photoswitch. Singlet-oxygen generation upon irradiation didnot occur in closed-switch micelles with ZnTPP/BDTE feeding ratios >1:10. Deliberate switch closure/opening within 65-80 min was possible through thin layers of porcine tissue in vitro, increasing for thicker layers. Inadvertent opening of the switch by simulated daylight, took several tens of hours. Creating deliberate cell damage and prevention of inadvertent damage in vitro and in mice could be done at lower ZnTPP/BDTE feeding ratios (1:5) in open-switch micelles and at higher irradiation intensities than inferred from chemical clues to generate singlet-oxygen. The reduction of inadvertent photosensitizer activation in micellar nanocarriers, while maintaining the ability to kill tumor cells and infectious bacteria established here, brings photodynamic therapies closer to clinical application.

A printing process for the fabrication of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibits promising future application in the photovoltaic industry due to its low-cost and eco-friendly preparation. In mesoscopic carbon-based PSCs, however, compared to conventional ones, the hole-transport-layer-free PSCs often lead to inefficient hole extraction. Here, we used liquid metal (LM, Galinstan) as an interface modifier material in combination with a carbon electrode. Considering the high conductivity and room-temperature fluidity, it is found that LMs are superior in improving hole extraction and, more importantly, LMs tend to be reserved at the interface between ZrO 2 and carbon for enhancing the contact property. Correspondingly, the carrier transfer resistance was decreased at the carbon/perovskite interface. As optimized content, the triple mesoscopic PSCs based on mixed-cation perovskite with a power conversion efficiency of 13.51% was achieved, involving a 26% increase compared to those without LMs. This work opens new techniques for LMs in optoelectronics and printing.

Targeted drug delivery of nanomedicines offered a promising strategy to improve the tumor accumulation and reduce the side effects of chemotherapeutics. However, undesired recognition of the targeting ligands on the surface of nanocarriers by immune systems or normal tissues decreased the circulation time and reduced the targeting efficiency. Here, we developed a ligand-switchable micellar nanocarrier that can hide the targeting ligands when circulating in the bloodstream and expose them on the surface when entering the tumor microenvironments. With the ligand-switching capability, the nanocarrier achieved a 66% longer blood circulation half-life and a 23% higher tumor accumulation than the nanocarrier with targeting ligands on the surface. This targeting strategy could serve as a universal approach to improve the targeting efficiency for nanomedicines.

"Volmer-Weber" island nucleation and step-flow growth model are the classical processes of the conventional epitaxy of films. However, a growth model of van der Waals epitaxy (vdWE) of films is still not very well-documented. Here, we present an example of vdWE of AlN films on multilayer graphene (MLG)/SiC by hydride vapor phase epitaxy at a high temperature of 1100 °C and reveal the orientation relationship of AlN, MLG, and SiC as (0001)[1-100] AlN ||(0001)[1-100] MLG ||(0001)[11-20] SiC , which suggests that the vdWE heterointerface is not an usual covalent bond and no excessive strain during the growth process owing to the incommensurate in-plane lattices. Remarkably, zigzag cracks are formed because of the anisotropy of strain after the films are cooled down to room temperature, indicating that the growth model of vdWE is different from that of conventional epitaxy. It is a layer-by-layer epitaxy, and a planar substrate without a miscut angle is essential for obtaining single-crystalline films. Additionally, the films can be transferred to foreign substrates by direct mechanical exfoliation without any stressor layer. An ultraviolet photosensor device illustrates an example of III-nitride heterogeneous integration application. Our work demonstrates an excellent step toward the vdWE of varieties of compound films on 2D materials for the applications of transferrable heterogeneous integration in future.

Because of the mounting prevalence of complicated infections induced by multidrug-resistant bacteria, it is imperative to develop innovative and efficient antibacterial agents. In this work, we design a novel polymeric micelle for simultaneous decorating of silver nanoparticles and encapsulating of curcumin as a combination strategy to improve the antibacterial efficiency. In the constructed combination system, silver nanoparticles were decorated in the micellar shell because of the in situ reduction of silver ions, which were absorbed by the poly(aspartic acid) (PAsp) chains in the shell. Meanwhile, natural curcumin was encapsulated into the poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) core of the micelle through hydrophobic interaction. This strategy could prevent aggregation of silver nanoparticles and improve the water solubility of curcumin at the same time, which showed enhanced antibacterial activity toward Gram-negative P.aeruginosa and Gram-positive S.aureus compared with sliver-decorated micelle and curcumin-loaded micelle alone, due to the cooperative antibacterial effects of the silver nanoparticles and curcumin. Furthermore, the achieved combinational micelles had good biocompatibility and low hemolytic activity. Thus, our study provides a new pathway in the rational design of combination strategy for efficiently preventing the ubiquitous bacterial infections.

Chemo-photodynamic combination therapy has been received widespread attention in cancer treatment due to its excellent characteristics, such as reducing the adverse side effects of chemo-drugs and improving the therapeutic effects for various cancers. In this study, RGD and DOX was conjugated to PEG by thiol-ene addition and Schiff's base reaction, respectively, to prepare the targeted and pH-sensitive antitumor prodrug nanoparticles (RGD-PEG-DOX NPs, RGD-NPs). Subsequently, the photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6) was encapsulated into RGD-NPs, thus obtaining a simple and efficient chemo-photodynamic combination platform (RGD-PEG-DOX/Ce6 NPs, RGD-NPs/Ce6). This nanoparticle possessed high drug loading property of both the chemo-drug and photosensitizer and could simultaneously release them under the mild acidic microenvironment of cancer cells, which was expected to realize the synchronization therapy of chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Compared with free DOX and Ce6, RGD-NPs/Ce6 could significantly improve the cellular uptake capacities of DOX and Ce6, resulting in the increased contents of ROS in cancer cells and effective cytotoxicity for tumor cells (MDA-MB-231 cells and MCF-7 cells) upon a laser radiation. The in vivo experiment showed that RGD-NPs/Ce6 displayed superior tumor targeting, accumulation, and retention ability than the other groups (free DOX, free Ce6 and NPs/Ce6), and thus significantly enhancing the antitumor effect in vivo with a laser radiation. In addition, the cardiotoxicity induced by DOX was thoroughly wiped out after being loaded and delivered by the nanoparticles according to the pathological analysis. Therefore, the targeted chemo-photodynamic combination therapeutic platform may be a promising candidate for enhanced cancer therapy.

Replacement of rare and precious metal catalysts with low-cost and earth-abundant ones is currently among the major goals of sustainable chemistry. Herein, we report the synthesis of S, N dual-doped graphene-like carbon nanosheets via a simple pyrolysis of a mixture of melamine and dibenzyl sulfide as efficient metal-free electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The S, N dual-doped graphene-like carbon nanosheets show enhanced activity toward ORR as compared with mono-doped counterparts, and excellent durability in contrast to the conventional Pt/C electrocatalyst in both alkaline and acidic media. A high content of graphitic-N and pyridinic-N is necessary for ORR electrocatalysis in the graphene-like carbon nanosheets, but an appropriate amount of S atoms further contributes to the improvement of ORR activity. Superior ORR performance from the as-prepared S, N dual-doped graphene-like carbon nanosheets implies great promises in practical applications in energy devices.
