Solar-driven high-efficiency conversion of CO 2 with water vapor into high-value-added alcohols is a promising approach for reducing CO 2 emissions and achieving carbon neutrality. However, the rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers and low CO 2 adsorption capacity of photocatalysts are usually the factors that limit their applicability. Herein, a series of low-cost Z-scheme heterostructures Cu 2 O/PCN-250- x are constructed by in situ growth of ultrasmall Cu 2 O nanoparticles on PCN-250. A systematic investigation revealed that there is a strong interaction between Cu 2 O nanoparticles and PCN-250. The resulting Cu 2 O/PCN-250-2 exhibits excellent photogenerated carrier separation efficiency and CO 2 adsorption capacity, which dramatically promote the conversion of CO 2 into alcohols. Notably, the total yield of 268 μmol g cat -1 for the production of CH 3 OH and CH 3 H 2 OH is superior to that of isolated PCN-250 and Cu 2 O. This study provides a new perspective for the design of a Cu 2 O nanoparticle/metal-organic framework Z-scheme heterojunction for the reduction of CO 2 to alcohols with water vapor.

Recently, two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) have exhibited emergent electronic and optical properties due to their peculiar phonons and excitons, which lay the foundation for the development of photoelectronic devices. The dielectric environment plays an important role in the interlayer coupling of vdWHs. Here, we studied the interlayer and extra-layer dielectric effects on phonon and exciton properties in WS 2 /MoS 2 and MoS 2 /WS 2 vdWHs by Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The ultralow frequency (ULF) Raman modes are insensitive to atomic arrangement at the interface between 1LW and 1LM and dielectric environments of neighboring materials, and the layer breathing mode (LBM) frequency follows that of WS 2 . The shift of high-frequency (HF) Raman modes is attributable to interlayer dielectric screening and charge transfer effects. Furthermore, the energy of interlayer coupling exciton peak I is insensitive to atomic arrangement at the interface between 1LW and 1LM and its energy follows that of MoS 2 , but the slight intensity difference in inversion vdWHs means that the substrate's dielectric properties may induce doping on the bottom layer. This paper provides fundamental understanding of phonon and exciton properties of such artificially formed vdWHs structures, which is important for new insights into manipulating the performances of potential devices.

A metal-free Cs 2 CO 3 -promoted hydrothiolation of alkynes with aryl thioureas for stereoselective synthesis of ( Z )-vinyl sulfides has been reported. Vinyl thioethers were obtained without a metal catalyst in good yields via anti-Markovnikov and cis addition. The protocol features a broad substrate scope of the starting materials, high atom economy, good yields, and exclusive stereoselectivity, showing potential synthetic value for the synthesis of a diversity of ( Z )-vinyl thioethers.

Neuromorphic visual sensory and memory systems, which can perceive, process, and memorize optical information, represent core technology for artificial intelligence and robotics with autonomous navigation. An optoelectronic synapse with an elegant integration of biometric optical sensing and synaptic learning functions can be a fundamental element for the hardware-implementation of such systems. Here, we report a class of ferroelectric field-effect memristive transistors made of a two-dimensional WS 2 semiconductor atop a ferroelectric PbZr 0.2 Ti 0.8 O 3 (PZT) thin film for optoelectronic synaptic devices. The WS 2 channel exhibits voltage- and light-controllable memristive switching, dependent on the optically and electrically tunable ferroelectric domain patterns in the underlying PZT layer. These devices consequently show the emulation of optically driven synaptic functionalities including both short- and long-term plasticity as well as the implementation of brainlike learning rules. Integration of these rich synaptic functionalities into one single artificial optoelectronic device could allow the development of future neuromorphic electronics capable of optical information sensing and learning.

The light control of nonvolatile nanoscale memories could represent a fundamental step toward novel optoelectronic devices with memory and logic functionalities. However, most of the proposed devices exhibit insufficient control in terms of the reversibility, data retention, photosensitivity, limited-photoactive area, and so forth. Here, in a proof-of-concept work, we demonstrate the use of the tip-enhanced bulk photovoltaic (BPV) effect to realize programmable nanoscopic writing of nonphotoactive electronic devices by light control. We show that electronic properties of solid-state memory devices can be reversibly and location-precisely manipulated in the nanoscale using the BPV effect in combination with the nanoscale contact connection, that is, atomic force microscopy (AFM) probe technique in this work. More than 10 5 % reversible switching of tunneling electroresistance of ferroelectric tunnel junctions is exclusively achieved by light control. Using the same light-controlled AFM probe technique, we also present precise nanoscopic and multiple-state writing of LaAlO 3 /SrTiO 3 two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG)-based field-effect transistors. The tip-enhanced BPV effect can offer a novel avenue for reversible and multistate light control of a wide range of electronic memory devices in the nanoscale and may lead to more sophisticated functionalities in optoelectronic applications.

Ammoniated aerosols are important for urban air quality, but emissions of the key precursor NH 3 are not well quantified. Mobile laboratory observations are used to characterize fleet-integrated NH 3 emissions in six cities in the U.S. and China. Vehicle NH 3 :CO 2 emission ratios in the U.S. are similar between cities (0.33-0.40 ppbv/ppmv, 15% uncertainty) despite differences in fleet composition, climate, and fuel composition. While Beijing, China has a comparable emission ratio (0.36 ppbv/ppmv) to the U.S. cities, less developed Chinese cities show higher emission ratios (0.44 and 0.55 ppbv/ppmv). If the vehicle CO 2 inventories are accurate, NH 3 emissions from U.S. vehicles (0.26 ± 0.07 Tg/yr) are more than twice those of the National Emission Inventory (0.12 Tg/yr), while Chinese NH 3 vehicle emissions (0.09 ± 0.02 Tg/yr) are similar to a bottom-up inventory. Vehicle NH 3 emissions are greater than agricultural emissions in counties containing near half of the U.S. population and require reconsideration in urban air quality models due to their colocation with other aerosol precursors and the uncertainties regarding NH 3 losses from upwind agricultural sources. Ammonia emissions in developing cities are especially important because of their high emission ratios and rapid motorizations.

A putative class III endochitinase (ChiIII) was reported previously to be expressed dominantly in fruiting bodies of Coprinopsis cinerea, and its expression levels increased with the maturation of the fruiting bodies. This paper further reports that ChiIII is a novel chitinase with exo- and endoactivities. When the substrate was (GlcNAc)3-5, ChiIII exhibited exoactivity, releasing GlcNAc processively from the reducing end of (GlcNAc)3-5; when the substrate was (GlcNAc)6-7, the activity of ChiIII shifted to an endoacting enzyme, randomly splitting chitin oligosaccharides to various shorter oligosaccharides. This shift in the mode of action of ChiIII may be related to its stronger hydrolytic capacity to degrade chitin in fungal cell walls. The predicted structure of ChiIII shows that it lacks the α+β domain insertion; however, its substrate binding cleft seems to be deeper than that of common endochitinases but shallower and more open than that of common exochitinases, which may be related to its exo- and endohydrolytic activities.

A highly sensitive method for the determination of arprocarb (AC), carbofuran (CF), isoprocarb (IC), and fenobucarb (FC) is proposed. The method is based on alkaline hydrolysis of the four carbamate pesticides, and the resultant hydrolysis products are reacted with 4-aminoantipyrene (AP) to give four red color products. The colored compounds are enriched and separated by cloud point extraction (CPE) method, and the coacervate phase containing the compounds is determined with a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system in the visible region. AC, CF, IC, and FC were determined on the basis of a linear correlation between the signals of the colored compounds and the concentrations of the pesticides. The method is applied to determine the four pesticides in corn samples; the limits of detection are 2.0 x 10(-4) mg L(-1) for AC, CF, and IC and 5.0 x 10(-4) mg L(-1) for FC, with recoveries ranging between 84.8 and 93.0%, at spiking levels of 5 x 10(-3), 2 x 10(-2), and 0.2 mg kg(-1), respectively.
