Abstract

The synthesis of the asymmetric compartmental ligand H2LA, which has an N3O2 Schiff base and an O2O3 crown-like coordination site, has been carried out. H2LA was synthesized by reacting 1,5-diamino-3-azamethylpentane with 3-3'-(3-oxapentane-1,5-diyldioxy)bis(2-hydroxybenzaldehyde). The mononuclear lanthanide complexes have similar crystal structures composed of a coordination polyhedron with a distorted monocapped square antiprism. The NMR spectra are consistent with the maintenance in solution of the coordination features found in solid state.
