The article discusses the various neuroscience studies using bats on the hippocampal place cells or neurons that fire based on where an animal is located in its environment. Also cited are the presence of said cells in mammalian species like bats, humans, and mice, how the individual place cells in the brain's CA1 fire in multiple, irregularly spaced locations, and the multiscale coding mechanism in bats.
