Abstract

WOS:000405661700041; International audience; We report on the design of a femtosecond laser-driven electron source for ultrafast coherent transmission electron microscopy. The proposed architecture allows introducing an ultrafast laser beam inside the cold field emission source of a commercial TEM, aligning and focusing the laser spot on the apex of the nanoemitter. The modifications of the gun assembly do not deteriorate the performances of the electron source in conventional DC mode and allow easy switching between the conventional and ultrafast laser-driven emission modes. We describe here this ultrafast electron source and discuss its properties. Published by AIP Publishing.

2. Enhanced absorption of solar light in Ge/Si core-sheath nanowires compared to Si/Ge core-sheath and Si1−xGex nanowires: A theoretical study

Abstract

Coaxial core-sheath semiconductor nanowires exhibit an improved light absorption efficiency, rendering them promising building blocks in photovoltaic devices. In the present theoretical work, we focus on the optical properties of Si/Ge and Ge/Si core-sheath nanowires, compared to Si1− x Ge x alloy variants (without coated shell) of the same composition in Si and Ge. Using the analytical Lorenz-Mie theory, we compute both the absorption and scattering efficiencies, with a particular attention devoted to the shell thickness influence. The leaky modes resonances, associated to the optical response enhancement, are investigated and compared for all core/sheath and alloy variants. The optical resonances are found to keep almost the same spectral positions regardless the nanowire structure. More interestingly, core-sheath nanowires absorb more efficiently visible to near-infrared light than Si1− x Ge x alloys. Finally, the integrated solar absorption J solar , which is a figure of merit proportional to the photocurrent generated in a nanowire, is more efficient in the case of Ge/Si core-sheath nanowires than in the two other structures.

Abstract

cited By 10; International audience; The 2D optical field intensity distribution in sub-micron, ultrathin, and crystalline gold platelets is investigated by two-photon luminescence (TPL) microscopy. In particular, the evolution of the TPL maps as the particle morphology undergoes a transition from triangular to hexagonal reveals that the signatures of the high-order surface plasmon states sustained by the platelets follows the same C3v to C6v symmetry redistribution. Experimental observations are precisely accounted for by theoretical simulations based on the Green dyadic method.
