Abstract

A study conducted between 1987 and 1990 indicates that evidence of acute cerebral infarction can be detected on computed tomography (CT) scans performed within five hours after a stroke. In the study, non-contrast CTs followed by either cerebral angiography or carotid ultrasound were performed on 50 subjects within five hours after stroke onset. Acute infarction was evident in the first CTs of 28 patients and in the angiograms of 23 of 38 patients.
