Assistentes de Voz Inteligentes (AVI) estao se tornando cada vez mais populares em todo o mundo, provendo facil interacao para realizacao de servicos e acessos a dispositivos. No entanto, o treinamento desses assistentes de voz pode estar limitado a falas padronizadas gerando o risco de desestimular a adocao desta tecnologia inclusiva por grupos com caracteristicas de fala distintas da padrao. A eventual diferenca de qualidade de desempenho dos assistentes em virtude das formas especificas da fala de diferentes grupos de pessoas nos paises em desenvolvimento pode ser considerado um vies, bem como um fator que discriminara principalmente os grupos mais vulneraveis e, consequentemente, aumentara a lacuna digital nestes paises. Neste trabalho, apresentamos um estudo de caso que analisa a presenca de vies na interacao por voz com os assistentes, ou seja, uma diferenca na qualidade do desempenho dadas caracteristicas especificas de fala dos usuarios. Avaliamos o comportamento do Google Assistente e da Siri para grupos de pessoas distribuidas por genero e regiao do pais, avaliando duas caracteristicas da linguagem: a cacoepia e a disfluencia. Resultados preliminares indicam que a cacoepia e a disfluencia estao relacionadas com a regiao de origem do falante e tem impacto no desempenho dos assistentes de voz.

Voice-based assistants are becoming increasingly widespread all over the world. However, the performance of these assistants in the interaction with users of languages and accents of developing countries is not clear yet. Eventual bias against specific language or accent of different groups of people in developing countries is maybe a factor to increase the digital gap in these countries. Our research aims at analysing the presence of bias in the interaction via audio. We carried out experiments to verify the quality of the recognition of phrases spoken by different groups of people. We evaluated the behaviour of Google Assistant and Siri for groups of people formed according to gender and regions that have different accents. Preliminary results indicate that accent and mispronunciation due to regional differences are not being properly considered by the assistants we have analyzed.

Systems Evaluation through user narratives has been a recent evaluation technique and has seen valuable results on a usability and user experience about the system. In previous work, we have researched as a user writes detailed comments about the system itself where it is online and use us to evaluate the system. However, the process of collecting and sorting user posts has become a laborious process. In this way, this article presents the UUX-Posts - A tool for extracting and classifying posts about the uses of a certain system by its users. This work contributes to UUX tests, which aim to identify Usability and UX problems by analyzing user opinions (by text).

There is an increase of use of psychophysiological sensors to measure user's emotions. However, the evaluation after the user experience (not in real-time) can not represent her/his emotion, as these sensors can do. The purpose of this article is to present a framework to evaluate the hedonic user experience in real time, considering the user's emotion using psychophysiological measures. The proposed approach can be used by HCI professionals and intelligent systems, interested by information generated to "understand" the user experience and make decisions based on this information.

Aiming to re-evaluate the actions of the Brazilian academic community to meet the challenges proposed in 2012 in the GrandIHC-BR, a discussion panel were proposed in 2017. This paper, part of the panel, presents a reassessment of the main contributions made by the Brazilian community to the advancement of the GranDIHC-BR Challenge 3. This challenge highlights the development of new devices through emerging technologies such as ubiquitous systems, multiple devices, and tangible user interfaces. We list and comment on papers published in the Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems, since 2012, about these topics. Two artifacts of the Organizational Semiotics were used to support the identification of stakeholders and problems and possible solutions for the advancement of the Challenge 3. Finally, the main advances and suggestions for the continuity of researches are presented.

User experience (UX) has received increased attention in last years, in a reality of mobile applications and internet of things. In order to increase competitiveness, companies have been invested in understand user's emotions during the experience. However, this is still a challenge for HCI researchers. This article presents an investigation, as a part of a major research, based on 14 studies, about use of psychophysiological measures in HCI research. We found 1) that psychophysiological measures are still difficult to apply, once sensors are still invasive and difficult to understand and use; 2) each psychophysiological measure represents various emotions, and each emotion is measured by various psychophysiological measures; and 3) it is necessary to explore and discover more solutions to user's emotion measurement. This scenario shows an opportunity for UX evaluation methods, once a future work considers the use of psychophysiological measures.

This paper defines requirements for entering text in interactive digital TV, based on theories of shared attention, in order to prototype a remote control that makes user interaction more natural. Physical prototyping of this newly created device features movement recognition and sensory feedback as modalities of interaction. In usability tests, data was collected on users' performance and satisfaction, as well as data on their cognitive load (attention) and state of meditation (relaxation) captured through an Electroencephalogram device. The results showed that the prototyped solution, analyzed for a sample of 18 users, increased performance in typing long texts in 26.5%, raised satisfaction scores by 15% and relaxation scores by 29.4%, and maintained the users' cognitive load compared to use of an infrared remote control.

Gamification has become a popular strategy to increase the engagement and participation of users in social systems. Despite the popularity that now reigns, we identified that gamification can not be treated simply as award points and provide badgets for users. Care must be taken, since the choice of the game mechanics must consider the profile of the user as a player. If such considerations are not made properly, the desired goals by the developer cannot be obtained. In other words, one needs to understand the relationship between the developer's goals, the game mechanics and the profile of users (players). The lack of computational tools to support the developer to consider how these three aspects relate to and impact, led us to propose GameWork. It is a Service-oriented Architecture to support gamification in general, especially to help monitoring the system and the players behaviors with respect to the incentives provided. This article describes GameWork and an example of its implementation in a commercial social network.

Social Network Sites have grown considerably in recent years. Studies have revealed that users write in Social Systems about services, opinions or facts concerning personal life. However, no studies have been found regarding the following question: Do users write about the system in use? How? Is it valid to evaluate the users experience in Social Network Sites through their written texts? A methodology to search for postings of users on Twitter was used, composed of filters which combine patterns which may be related to the use of the system. The results have shown evidence that some messages posted in these types of systems are about the system in use. As a contribution, we presented some characteristics of the messages of the users of social networking sites in order to facilitate the understanding of its usage experience.

The progress of information technology has made objects continuously acquire new resources and communication skills, therefore we have to change the way we interact with them. As the mainstream media of the twentieth century, television has also followed this trend. TV is changing from a passive medium, from which the viewer only receives information, into an active media, with which there is interaction facilitated by the option of choice, participation and even creating new content. However, the experience of interactive television is often barred by the problems inherent to dealing with the remote control. Especially, when it comes to a task, that is too complex to be done with a standard remote control: the task of putting data in text format into the TV. This paper presents an ongoing research that addresses the input of text data in digital television proposing an attention-aware system.

This paper proposes a software architecture for the development of collaborative maps applied to the model of the Brazilian Digital Television System (SBTVD), called MAPS-TV. We describe the modules of MAPS-TV, how they interact, and how we extend the content representation model used by TV-Anytime to allow this interaction. For the purpose of validating our proposal, we also demonstrate how MAPS-TV facilitated the creation of collaborative maps -- related to urban problems -- to be used in the SBTVD, with no need for participation of software developers in the process.

It is a consensus that during design phase stakeholders should have a deep understanding about usage of the new technology as supposed to be appropriate to the target users -- it is the case of Digital TV in this study context. This requirement addresses one primary research question: how stakeholders, who live in contexts extremely different from the users' context, can design and implant Digital TV for diversity? Our aim is to describe the assessments and consensus related to users' needs for cross-cultural stakeholders with limited prior knowledge of users' context. A socio-technical analysis was done identifying technical-contextual-social factors based on an organizational semiotic framework. The results lead to useful insights that can guide managers of multi-national driven projects to define better integration strategies

This paper aims to present an approach for the creation of pre-patterns from experience of use in creating content for digital television. We conducted an experience of use for the development and application of pre-patterns in the interaction design. This paper presents the main contributions to the description of pre-patterns for the context of creating content for DTV, and an analysis of the implications of these for the design of interaction.

This article describes about studies of Digital Television (DTV) and mobility. The advance and the dissemination of the mobile devices to access the DTV services occur quickly, so it is necessary to have a system to manage the content of these services in different platforms and to apply standards for the usability, in order to offer better accessibility to the users.

This paper presents a proposal to perform usability institutionalization in software development organizations, focusing on the association of existing practices in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) with CMMI practices and organization needs. In this work, we intend to demonstrate (to usability professionals), that usability practices can be associated with some existing organizational practices, in an appropriate and collaborative manner. We also intend to demonstrate (this time, to the whole organization), that these practices can help to improve the quality of their products and, consequently, the maturity of the development process of the organization.

In this paper we describe a multi-criteria approach in which the execution of its steps integrated to a Software Development Process (SDP) allow the generation of the User Interface (UI) Definition Plan, which is an artifact used for UI design of software. This approach applies techniques from Operational Research (OR), and from Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), considering diverse criteria (functional and non functional requirements) that have an impact on the interaction design and using usability patterns, respectively. In this text, its main goal was to identify the order of attractiveness of a list of usability patterns for a certain interactive task of Digital TV (DTV) applications, thus allowing the selection of the most appropriate pattern in this new communication resource.

This workshop is a discussion platform to unfold the design of future interactive television (iTV) scenarios characterized by pervasive communications in contexts of entertainment, work and government, with special attention to the social character of the usage of these media and the implications for interface design. In particular, it will focus on the use of handhelds and other advanced interfaces (e.g. Interactive Public Displays, spectacles) to extend the iTV social experience outside the home boundaries and to enhance users' communication in diverse contexts. The workshop will look at how innovative ethno-methodologies, collaborative design approaches and advanced evaluation techniques can lead to the creation and representation of feasible and relevant future communications scenarios that are characterized by a strong collaboration and interaction between users such as mobile iTV. Workshop organizers will also open up a debate around how to identify suitable applications for the above scenarios as well as related new forms of content and novel interaction models that support social use.
