Abstract
The article focuses on the annual white paper on defense released by Japan in August 2014 which concludes that there is an increasingly severe security environment in the Asia-Pacific region and proposes reorganizing the divisions and brigades of the Ground Self Defense Forces (GSDF) and adding military capabilities. It mentions the installation of ballistic missile defense (BMD) capability on two Atago-class destroyers, how to counter cyber attacks, and the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
