Combining resource dependence theory and institutional theory, we investigate whether ' and how ' friendship (or sister or twinning) city relationships affect Chinese firms' outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) location choices. Based on a dataset containing 3,689 parent firms from 223 Chinese cities investing in 118 countries over an 11-year period that represents the start of the current wave of Chinese OFDI, we find evidence that the probability of a host country's being chosen as an OFDI location is higher when the Chinese firm's home city has friendship city relations with the host country. The effects associated with the formation of, and increases in, friendship cities relationships are dynamic, with the former enduring for up to six years and the latter for up to four years. We also find evidence of spillover effects associated with friendship city relationships. The expected probability of a host country's being chosen as the OFDI location is higher when neighboring cities to the Chinese firm's home have friendship city relationships with the host country. The OFDI location-promoting effect from these relationships is greater for within-province neighboring cities than for those in other provinces. Different from the existing literature, this study examines both direct and indirect impact of employee learning orientation on job performance. Particularly, we establish and test a conceptual framework based on conservation of resource theory and positive psychology, treating employee resilience as a mediator for the learning orientation ?C job performance relationship in a less creative but more stressful working environment. Using a sample of 1501 employees from 14 banks in China, we find that learning orientation not only directly and positively influences job performance, but also indirectly does so via employee resilience as a mediator. This paper aims to identify the interactive mechanisms between government corruption, foreign invested firm (FIF) resources, bribery strategy, and performance in least developed countries (LDCs). An analytical framework is built in line with institutional theory, institutional anomie theory and resource-based views, and tested using the World Bank Enterprise Surveys data. Our findings indicate that, while developing country FIFs experience a positive corruption-performance relationship via bribery, developed country FIFs achieve good performance through refusing bribery. Internationally-recognized quality certification acts as an important firm resource to assist FIFs in generating a positive corruption-performance nexus.
