:This article analyzes certain works making up the series Folhas (2015) by the Brazilian artist Adriana Varejão will be analyzed. The analysis starts from the notion of survival(s), understood in two senses: on the one hand, as a recursive temporality, which does not respond to a linear and progressive structure, and which, therefore, does not merely advance forward, nor is exhausted, but remains latent. On the other hand, the idea of survival is considered in dialogue with studies that address the current ecological crisis. Where the world seems to have been completely lost or is projected to be lost, the notion of survival(s) has a unique connotation: global warming, destruction of nature, loss of biodiversity are some of the factors that, combined with a demographic and civilizational crisis would lead to the time we live in resulting in a present without a future. In this sense, survival(s), the temporal modality proposed here, might be useful to attend to and redefine other non-human temporalities linked to the layers of the earth, to organic and non-organic matter, as well as to other living beings; to alter, or desynchronize the human temporal experience in order to synchronize it with a different temporality through which it is possible to think, imagine, suppose and invite areas, regions, affective territories crossed by contradictions and tensions to emerge. That is, to propose hospitable alternatives, expanded and expansive forms for being in the world that are affective rather than essentialist. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic performance of amino-acid PET in high-grade gliomas (HGG) patients at the time of temozolomide (TMZ) treatment discontinuation, after the Stupp protocol. Methods: The analysis included consecutive HGG patients with dynamic [18F]FDOPA PET imaging within 3 months of the end of TMZ therapy, post-Stupp protocol. Static and dynamic PET parameters, responses to RANO criteria for MRI and clinical and histo-molecular factors were correlated to progression-free (PFS). Results: Thirty-two patients (59.4 [54.0;67.6] years old, 13 (41%) women) were included. Static PET parameters peak tumor-to-background ratio and metabolic tumor volume (respective thresholds of 1.9 and 1.5 mL) showed the best 84% accuracies for predicting PFS at 6 months (p = 0.02). These static PET parameters were also independent predictor of PFS in multivariate analysis (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: In HGG patients having undergone a Stupp protocol, the absence of significant PET uptake after TMZ constitutes a favorable prognostic factor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the increase in research on suicide bereavement, the effectiveness of peer-support group programs in promoting the grief process and mental health of suicide loss survivors remains unclear. The goal of our study was to determine the effectiveness of peer-support group programs for suicide loss survivors. A systematic review (PROSPERO ID: CRD42022307591) of articles published from January 2000 to December 2021 was applied in the databases PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and SciELO. Articles written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese with full text availability were included in this review to perform a narrative synthesis of the results and a bias analysis. 12 qualitative and two quantitative studies, were selected. No evidence of efficacy in reducing suicidal behavior was found. Qualitative studies highlighted that these types of groups provide social support, enabling individuals to cope with grief and mitigating psychological discomfort. In conclusion, from evidence-based medicine, results on peer-support groups for suicide loss survivors has a low level of certainty and an insufficient grade of recommendation. Nevertheless, qualitative studies indicate the potential benefits of these programs. The prevailing use of qualitative methodologies accounts for a participatory and subjective epistemology, typical of community programs such as peer-support programs. Finally, both quantitative and qualitative perspectives are necessary for the integration and validation of mutual support groups for suicide survivors in public mental health services. Taking its cue from the loss (more precisely, the disappearance) of a close friend and sometime collaborator, and drawing on my long‐term fieldwork on an experimental arts festival held annually in the Orkney Islands, this essay reflects on the challenges of documenting uncertain or intermittent presence, as well as the possibilities the latter affords for unsettling and expanding received conceptions of identity, place, and belonging, especially in a political moment in which these are being defined in increasingly narrow and exclusionary terms. Bringing ethnography and autoethnography into dialogue with literature, visual arts, and oral storytelling, it suggests that anthropology can most effectively respond to the challenges of the present by acknowledging that it is, inescapably, a creative as much as a descriptive practice.
