In this study, we present a new equation of state for electrolyte solutions, integrating the statistical associating fluid theory for variable range interactions utilizing the generic Mie form and binding Debye–Hückel theories. This equation of state underscores the pivotal role of ion–ion association in determining the properties of electrolyte solutions. We propose a unified framework that simultaneously examines the thermodynamic properties of electrolyte solutions and their electrical conductivity, given the profound impact of ion pairing on this transport property. Using this equation of state, we predict the liquid density, mean ionic activity coefficient, and osmotic coefficient for binary NaCl, Na2SO4, and MgSO4 aqueous solutions at 298.15 K. Additionally, we evaluate the molar conductivity of these systems by considering the fraction of free ions derived from our equation of state in conjunction with two advanced electrical conductivity models. Our results reveal that, while ion–ion association has a minimal influence on the modification of the predicted properties of sodium chloride solutions, their impact on sodium and magnesium sulfate solutions is considerably more noticeable. This article explores the structuring sodium tungstate with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) in water and characterizing the resulting products post-destabilization with hydrochloric acid and calcination. Utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), fluorescence spectroscopy with a pyrene probe, conductivity, and pH analyses, the study elucidates the system's structure and interactions. SDS serves as a structuring agent for tungstate anions in water, with sulphate anions interacting with tungsten d-orbitals. The presence of SDS significantly influences final structures after calcination. Higher precursor/structuring agent ratios result in higher proportion of tungsten oxide, alongside Na 2 W 2 O 7 and Na 2 W 4 O 13. Varying calcination temperatures yield different crystal structures and morphologies, including flower petals and roses at 500 °C and nanorods at 700 °C. Here, we compare the development of tolerance to the conventional opioid fentanyl with a novel pH‐sensitive μ‐opioid receptor (MOR) agonist, (±)‐N‐(3‐fluoro‐1‐phenethylpiperidine‐4‐yl)‐N‐phenyl propionamide (NFEPP) that is active only in acidic inflammatory microenvironments.An opioid tolerance model was developed in male C57BL/6 mice, with and without dextran sulphate sodium colitis, using increasing doses of either fentanyl or NFEPP over 5 days. Visceral nociception was assessed in vivo by measuring visceromotor responses (VMRs) to noxious colorectal distensions and in vitro measuring colonic afferent nerve activity of mesenteric nerves and performing patch‐clamp recordings from isolated dorsal root ganglia neurons. Somatic thermal nociception was tested using a tail immersion assay. Cardiorespiratory effects were analysed by pulse oximeter experiments.VMRs and tail immersion tests demonstrated tolerance to fentanyl, but not to NFEPP in colitis mice. Cross‐tolerance also occurred to fentanyl, but not to NFEPP. The MOR agonist DAMGO inhibited colonic afferent nerve activity in colitis mice exposed to chronic NFEPP, but not those from fentanyl‐treated mice. Similarly, in patch‐clamp recordings from isolated dorsal root ganglia neurons, DAMGO inhibited neurons from NFEPP‐, but not fentanyl‐treated mice.NFEPP did not exhibit tolerance in an inflammatory pain model, unlike fentanyl. The balanced gut microbiota in intestinal mucus layer plays an instrumental role in the health of the host. However, the mechanisms by which the host regulates microbial communities in the mucus layer remain largely unknown. Here, we discovered that the host regulates bacterial colonization in the gut mucus layer by producing a protein called Chitinase 3-like protein 1 (Chi3l1). Intestinal epithelial cells are stimulated by the gut microbiota to express Chi3l1. Once expressed, Chi3l1 is secreted into the mucus layer where it interacts with the gut microbiota, specifically through a component of bacterial cell walls called peptidoglycan. This interaction between Chi3l1 and bacteria is beneficial for the colonization of bacteria in the mucus, particularly for Gram-positive bacteria like Lactobacillus. Moreover, a deficiency of Chi3l1 leads to an imbalance in the gut microbiota, which exacerbates colitis induced by dextran sodium sulfate. By performing fecal microbiota transplantation from Villin-cre mice or replenishing Lactobacillus in IECΔChil1 mice, we were able to restore their colitis to the same level as that of Villin-cre mice. In summary, this study shows a 'scaffold model' for microbiota homeostasis by interaction between intestinal Chi3l1 and bacteria cell wall interaction, and it also highlights that an unbalanced gut microbiota in the intestinal mucus contributes to the development of colitis. Ulcerative colitis (UC) belongs to chronic inflammatory disease with a relapsing characterization. Conventional oral drugs of UC are restricted in clinical by premature degradation in the gastrointestinal tract, modest efficacy, and adverse effects. CX5461 can treat autoimmune disease, immunological rejection, and vascular inflammation. However, low solubility, intravenous administration, and non-inflammatory targeting limited its clinical application. Herein, this work aims to develop Sophora Flavescens-derived exosomes-like nanovesicles carrying CX5461 (SFELNVs@CX5461) for efficient CX5461 oral delivery for UC therapy. We identified SFELNVs as nano-diameter (80 nm) with negative zeta potential (-32mV). Cellular uptake has shown that SFELNVs were targeted uptake by macrophages, thus increasing drug concentration. Additionally, oral SFELNVs@CX5461 exhibited good safety and stability, as well as inflammation-targeting ability in the gastrointestinal tract of dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis mice. In vivo, oral administration of SFELNVs and CX5461 could relieve mice colitis. More importantly, combined SFELNVs and CX5461 alleviated mice colitis by inhibiting pro-inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) expression and promoting M2 macrophage polarization. Furthermore, SFELNVs promoted M2 polarization by miR4371c using miRNA sequencing. Carbon dots (CDs) are versatile, easy to fabricate, chemically stable, and ecofriendly materials. This work presents the impact of different post-treatments, such as centrifugation and filtration, on the photoluminescence (PL) and particle-size distribution of electrochemically synthesized CDs. Because organic envelope surfactants have been reported to influence PL, bare CDs were compared with CDs modified with amphiphilic and nonamphiphilic surfactants. The CD colloidal solution exhibited stabilization in the case of bare CDs and CDs modified with amphiphilic sodium dodecyl sulphate or non-amphiphilic surfactant sodium citrate, as indicated by the zeta potential. The experimental results also revealed a minor influence of the organic envelope on the absorbance or PL spectrum, whereas filtration of the colloid solution had a significant impact, revealing an effect not previously observed. The change in the absorbance spectrum was attributed to sp3 hybridization due to increased disorder and surface states during the filtration process. Absorbance deconvolution also disclosed two energy substates not mentioned elsewhere. The PL spectra of the filtered CD solutions revealed that the emission peaks shifted according to the incident wavelength, and the centrifuged CDs synthesized with the sodium citrate surfactant lacked PL due to the absence of sp3 states. Practical Application Oral administration of probiotics has demonstrated substantial potential in alleviating colitis. However, most of the ingested microorganisms struggle to survive the harsh conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, leading to decreased efficacy. In the present study, using double emulsification (W1/O/W2) and complex coacervation methods, we developed a gelatin/carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)‐based probiotic microcapsule and analyzed the efficacy of encapsulated probiotics in preventing dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)‐induced colitis in mice. Our results reveal that nearly 90% of the encapsulated probiotics remained viable after 30‐day storage at 4°C and approximately 38.1% of viable bacteria (4.0 × 108 cfu/g) survived after 4‐h simulated gastrointestinal digestion. In a DSS‐induced colitis model, pretreatment with probiotics exerted significant protective effects, with the bacterial microcapsule‐treated group having superior outcomes to those of the bacterial suspension plus empty carrier group. Probiotic treatments, especially those administered in the encapsulated form, significantly increased fecal short‐chain fatty acid contents, and altered the intestinal microbial composition. The family Muribaculaceae, dominant bacteria in the mouse gut, may be the key microorganism involved in the BM regulation process. Our study presents an alternative approach to treating colitis using probiotics.The encapsuled probiotic showed remarkable storage stability at 4°C, maintained good vitality after simulated digestion, and gained superior outcomes in preventing colitis. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) take on pivotal and complex roles in the tumor microenvironment (TME); however, their heterogeneity in the TME remains incompletely understood. ETS proto-oncogene 1 (ETS1) is a transcription factor that is mainly expressed in lymphocytes. However, its expression and immunoregulatory role in colorectal cancer (CRC)-associated macrophages remain unclear. In the study, the expression levels of ETS1 in CD68+ macrophages in the CRC microenvironment were significantly higher than those in matched paracarcinoma tissues. Importantly, ETS1 increased the levels of chemokines C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 (CXCL10) in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated THP-1 cells. It also boosted the migration and invasion of CRC cells during the in vitro co-culture. In the ETS1 conditional knockout mouse model, ETS1 deficiency in macrophages ameliorated the histological changes in DSS-induced ulcerative colitis mouse models and prolonged the survival in an azomethane/dextran sodium sulfate (AOM/DSS)-induced CRC model. ETS1 deficiency in macrophages substantially inhibited tumor formation, reduced F4/80+TIM4+ macrophages in the mesenteric lymph nodes, and decreased CCL2 and CXCL10 protein levels in tumor tissues. Moreover, ETS1 deficiency in macrophages effectively prevented liver metastasis of CRC and reduced the infiltration of TAMs into the metastasis sites. Subsequent studies have indicated that ETS1 upregulated the expression of T-cell immunoglobulin mucin receptor 4 in macrophages through the signal transducer and activator of the transcription 1 signaling pathway activated by the autocrine action of CCL2/CXCL10. Collectively, ETS1 deficiency in macrophages potentiates antitumor immune responses by repressing CCL2 and CXCL10 expression, shedding light on potential therapeutic strategies for CRC. Since concrete is exposed to chemical, mechanical, or physical deteriorating effects simultaneously or successively under environmental conditions, this study focused on the durability of geopolymer concretes containing ground blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and fly ash (FA) under the effects of sulfate and salt after elevated temperatures. For this aim, five FA‐based geopolymer concrete mixtures with different GGBFS contents were produced and cured at 90°C for 72 h. First, the produced samples were exposed to 200, 400, 600, and 800°C for 2 h. Then, the samples were put into 5% sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solutions for 30 days. The impacts of elevated temperature + Na2SO4 and elevated temperature + NaCl on geopolymer concrete were investigated by compressive strength, mass loss, visual examination, capillary water absorption, x‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). As a result, although cracking or strength decreases in concrete have been observed after only elevated temperatures, it has exhibited significant resistance to the integrated deterioration influences, has not disintegrated, and maintained its integrity under appropriate mix design and curing conditions. Shortly, the results demonstrated the ability of geopolymer concrete subjected to elevated temperatures with acceptable strength and durability under chemical effects, even if left for a short time. Characterization of crystallization processes in situ is of great importance to furthering knowledge of how nucleation and growth processes direct the assembly of organic and inorganic materials in solution and, critically, understanding the influence that these processes have on the final physico‐chemical properties of the resulting solid form. With careful specification and design, as demonstrated here, it is now possible to bring combined X‐ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, coupled to a range of fully integrated segmented and continuous flow platforms, to the laboratory environment for in situ data acquisition for timescales of the order of seconds. The facility used here (Flow‐Xl) houses a diffractometer with a micro‐focus Cu Kα rotating anode X‐ray source and a 2D hybrid photon‐counting detector, together with a Raman spectrometer with 532 and 785 nm lasers. An overview of the diffractometer and spectrometer setup is given, and current sample environments for flow crystallization are described. Commissioning experiments highlight the sensitivity of the two instruments for time‐resolved in situ data collection of samples in flow. Finally, an example case study to monitor the batch crystallization of sodium sulfate from aqueous solution, by tracking both the solute and solution phase species as a function of time, highlights the applicability of such measurements in determining the kinetics associated with crystallization processes. This work illustrates that the Flow‐Xl facility provides high‐resolution time‐resolved in situ structural phase information through diffraction data together with molecular‐scale solution data through spectroscopy, which allows crystallization mechanisms and their associated kinetics to be analysed in a laboratory setting. The removal of caesium radionuclides from an aqueous solution by flotation using rice straw (RS) agricultural waste as a low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbent in the presence of potassium ferrocyanide (KFC) was investigated. The influence of many adsorption parameters and flotation was evaluated on the removal efficiency of 137Cs. The adsorption results demonstrated that the concerned radionuclide was efficiently removed in the presence of 2 × 10−4 mol/L KFC using 10 g/L RS at pH ≥ 7. The double exponential kinetic model and the Freundlich model were the best models for fitting the adsorption kinetic and isotherm data, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of RS, calculated from the Langmuir model, was 280.405 mg/g. after being transferred to the flotation cell, 137Cs loaded onto ferrocyanide-modified rice straw (FMRS) was successfully floated at pH 7 using 3 × 10−4 mol/L cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant in the presence of 4% ethanol. Removal percentages of 56% and > 99.5% were achieved for 137Cs-loaded FMRS within 5 min using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and CTAB, respectively. The results obtained in this investigation indicate the efficiency of the suggested strategy and hence its applicability for the removal of 137Cs+ from radioactive liquid wastes. Background: The intake of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) may increase the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to explore the potential effects and mechanisms of resistant starch (RS) in HFCS-induced colon tumorigenesis. Methods: The azoxymethane/dextran sodium sulfate (AOM/DSS) and ApcMin/+ mice models were used to investigate the roles of HFCS and RS in CRC in vivo. An immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining analysis was used to detect the expression of proliferation-related proteins in tissues. 16S rRNA sequencing for microbial community, gas chromatography for short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and mass spectrometry analysis for glycolysis products in the intestines were performed. Furthermore, lactic acid assay kit was used to detect the glycolysis levels in vitro. Results: RS suppressed HFCS-induced colon tumorigenesis through reshaping the microbial community. Mechanistically, the alteration of the microbial community after RS supplement increased the levels of intestinal SCFAs, especially butyrate, leading to the suppression of glycolysis and CRC cell proliferation by downregulating HK2. Conclusions: Our study identified RS as a candidate of protective factors in CRC and may provide a potential target for HFCS-related CRC treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Delivering therapeutic agents efficiently to inflamed regions remains an intractable challenge following myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MI/RI) due to the transient nature of the enhanced permeability and retention effect, which disappears after 24 h. Leveraging the inflammation-homing and plasticity properties of circulating monocytes (MN) as hitchhiking carriers and further inducing their polarization into anti-inflammatory phenotype macrophages upon reaching the inflamed sites is beneficial for MI/RI therapy. Herein, DSS/PB@BSP nanoparticles capable of clearing reactive oxygen species and inhibiting inflammation were developed by employing hollow Prussian blue nanoparticles (PB) as carriers to encapsulate betamethasone sodium phosphate (BSP) and further modified with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), a targeting ligand for the scavenger receptor on MN. This formulation was internalized into MN as living cell drug depots, reprogramming them into anti-inflammation type macrophages to inhibit inflammation. In vitro assessments revealed the successful construction of the nanoparticle. In a murine MI/RI model, circulating MN laden with these nanoparticles significantly enhanced drug delivery and accumulation at the cardiac injury site, exhibiting favorable therapeutic ability and promoting M2-biased differentiation. Our study provides an effective approach with minimally invasion and biosecurity that makes this nanoplatform as a promising candidate for immunotherapy and clinical translation in the treatment of MI/RI. Tomato peel by-products contain high levels of lycopene, which has traditionally been extracted using organic solvents. This research focuses on the optimisation of a sustainable method to obtain a lycopene-rich extract using the biodegradable anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). A Plackett–Burman experimental design was used to investigate the effect of seven factors on the extraction of carotenoids from tomato peels using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS volume and concentration, homogenisation intensity and time, sonication phase, extraction time and ultracentrifugation intensity). Based on the responses of total carotenoid extraction, the SDS volume, the use of ultrasound and the extraction time significantly influenced the extraction yield and were selected for optimisation using a Box–Wilson experimental design. The final green extraction protocol (1 g sample + 11.9 ml SDS 0.3%, homogenisation at 13,500 rpm for 2 min, ultrasound phase, agitation for 8.2 h and ultracentrifugation) was selected after quantification of total carotenoids by UV–VIS and HPLC-DAD. Finally, we used nuclear magnetic resonance to demonstrate a high lycopene purity in the carotenoid extract obtained. Furthermore, using transmission electron microscopy, we observed the presence of intact chromoplasts in the extract, protecting the carotenoids from the exposure to external agents. Thus, this work reports an optimised method for the sustainable extraction of carotenoids and demonstrates the viability of the degradable solvent SDS for the extraction of liposoluble bioactive compounds, like carotenoids and mainly lycopene. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a debilitating chronic disease marked by persistent inflammation and intestinal fibrosis. Despite the availability of various treatments, many patients fail to achieve long-term remission, underscoring a significant unmet therapeutic need. BMS-477118, a reversible inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4), has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in preclinical and clinical studies with minimal adverse effects compared to other antidiabetic agents. However, the potential benefits of BMS-477118 in chronic UC have not yet been explored. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of BMS-477118 in rats subjected to chronic dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) administration. Our findings indicate that BMS-477118 activates the interconnected positive feedback loop involving AMPK, SIRT1, and FOXO3a, improving histological appearance in injured rat colons. BMS-477118 also reduced fibrotic changes associated with the chronic nature of the animal model, alleviated macroscopic damage and disease severity, and improved the colon weight-to-length ratio. Additionally, BMS-477118 prevented DSS-induced weight loss and enhanced tight junction proteins. These effects, in conjunction with reduced oxidative stress and its potential anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and autophagy-inducing properties, fostered prolonged survival in rats with chronic UC. To conclude, BMS-477118 has the potential to activate the AMPK/SIRT1/FOXO3a signaling pathway in inflamed colons. These results suggest that the AMPK/SIRT1/FOXO3a pathway could be a new therapeutic target for UC. Further research is mandatory to explore the therapeutic possibilities of this pathway. Additionally, continued studies on the therapeutic potential of BMS-477118 and other DPP4 inhibitors are promising for creating new treatments for various conditions, including UC in diabetic patients. In this study, the anticancer effect of doenjang according to the type of salt was investigated. Three samples were prepared: doenjang made with purified salt, doenjang made with generally manufactured solar salt, and doenjang made with washed and dehydrated solar salt (WDSD). In mice in which colon cancer was induced with azoxymethane/dextran sodium sulfate, doenjang made with solar salt, especially doenjang made with washed and dehydrated solar salt, was found to have a much higher colon cancer inhibition effect. WDSD significantly promoted the mRNA expression of apoptosis-related factors such as Bcl-2–associated X protein (Bax) and caspase 9 and the cell cycle arrest-related factors p53 and p21, and conversely significantly reduced the mRNA expression of apoptosis inhibitors such as B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) (p < 0.05). Additionally, metabolites were investigated to determine which substances in WDSD exhibit this anticancer effect. As a result, the contents of isoflavone and soyasaponin B in the form of aglycons such as genistein, daidzein, and glycitein, which are known to have anticancer and anti-inflammatory properties, were found to be significantly high. Therefore, the results confirmed that doenjang prepared with washed and dehydrated solar salt has superior anticancer potential against colon cancer, and that various active ingredients contribute to the improvement of this functionality. Introduction: This research aims to explore the molecular composition, antioxidant capabilities, and antibacterial effects of the essential oils from Tetraclinis articulateata and Juniperus phoenicea. Methods: Essential oils were extracted using hydrodistillation. Gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry was used to determine the chemical makeup of essential oils. Two methods are used to assess the antioxidant activity of essential oils: the reduction of iron (ferric reducing antioxidant power or frap) and the trapping of the free radical 2,2-Diphenyl-1Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The antimicrobial potential of essential oils was assessed using the diffusion method on a solid-state disk in comparison to nine bacterial and seven fungal souches. Results and Discussion: The essential oil yields from Tetraclinis articulata and Juniperus phoenicea are 0.46% ± 0.02% and 0.83% ± 0.05%, respectively. According to CG/SM's chromatographic analyses, the predominant constituent in the essential oil of J. Phoenicea is α-pinene (59.51%), while the main constituents in the essential oil of T. Articulata? are Bornyle acetate (18.91%) and camphor (28.48%). The assessment of antioxidant activities reveals intriguing antioxidant qualities in the essential oils of the species under investigation. T. Articulata essential oils yield the greatest results in the DPPH and FRAP tests, with CI50 values of around 266.9 ± 5.4 μg/mL and EC50 values of 433.16 ± 4.13 μg/mL, respectively. Except for Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus BLACT, and Pseudomonas aeroginosa, the two essential oils have demonstrated significant bactericidal activity against all bacterial and fungal souches (MIC <2 mg/mL et MBC <3.5 mg/mL). The inhibiting effect of these oils on bacterial and fungal development raises potential application areas in the food,cosmetic,and pharmaceutical industries. In addition, the current study investigated the potential antifungal, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities of the essential oils from Juniperus phoenicea and Tetraclinis articulate plants via the Glide molecular docking methodology, and most of these constituents were observed to be potent therapeutic agents. Sintering dust is a typical refractory secondary iron resource. A technology‐based utilization of sintering dust as iron carbide by applying chlorination, carburization, and magnetic separation is proposed. Under optimized conditions, an electric furnace burden comprised of 83.51% Fe and 6.52% C and with a corresponding iron recovery rate of 81.21% is prepared. Meanwhile, 96.97% Pb can be removed by chlorination and magnetic separation. Furthermore, the separation mechanism is revealed using scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray powder diffraction, and optical microscopy. The results show that sodium sulfate can promote the carburizing efficiency of sintering dust, strengthen the growth of iron carbide particles, and improve the embedding relationship between iron carbide and gangue minerals, which significantly promotes the separation efficiency. Background: Curcumin has been reported to have activity for prevention and therapy of CRC, yet its underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Recently, emerging evidence suggests that the gut microbiota and its metabolites contribute to the causation and progression of Colorectal cancer (CRC). In this study, we aimed to investigate if curcumin affects the tumorigenesis of CRC by modulating gut microbiota and its metabolites. Methods: Forty male C57BL/6JGpt mice were randomly divided into four groups: negative control (NC), curcumin control, CRC model, and curcumin treatment (CRC-Cur) groups. CRC mouse model was induced by using azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), and the mice in CRC model and curcumin treatment groups received oral PBS or curcumin (150 mg/kg/day), respectively. Additionally, fecal samples were collected. 16 S rRNA sequencing and Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)-based untargeted metabolomics were used to observe the changes of intestinal flora and intestinal metabolites. Results: Curcumin treatment restored colon length and structural morphology, and significantly inhibited tumor formation in AOM/DSS-induced CRC model mice. The 16S rRNA sequencing analysis indicated that the diversity and richness of core and total species of intestinal microflora in the CRC group were significantly lower than those in the NC group, which were substantially restored in the curcumin treatment group. Curcumin reduced harmful bacteria, including Ileibacterium, Monoglobus and Desulfovibrio, which were elevated in CRC model mice. Moreover, curcumin increased the abundance of Clostridia_UCG-014, Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, which were decreased in CRC model mice. In addition, 13 different metabolites were identified. Compared to the NC group, ethosuximide, xanthosine, and 17-beta-estradiol 3-sulfate-17-(beta-D-glucuronide) were elevated in the CRC model group, whereas curcumin treatment significantly reduced their levels. Conversely, glutamylleucine, gamma-Glutamylleucine, liquiritin, ubenimex, 5'-deoxy-5'-fluorouridine, 7,8-Dihydropteroic acid, neobyakangelicol, libenzapril, xenognosin A, and 7,4'-dihydroxy-8-methylflavan were decreased in the CRC group but notably upregulated by curcumin. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome (KEGG) pathway analysis revealed enrichment in seven pathways, including folate biosynthesis (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The gut microecological balance was disrupted in AOM/DSS-induced CRC mice, accompanied by metabolite dysbiosis. Curcumin restored the equilibrium of the microbiota and regulated metabolites, highly indicating that curcumin may alleviate the development of AOM/DSS induced colorectal cancer in mice by regulating intestinal flora homeostasis and intestinal metabolites. Colitis‐associated colon cancer (CAC) arises from prolonged inflammation of the inner colon lining. An alternative approach to treating or preventing CAC involves the use of natural products such as Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen or M. zapota, which has been studied for its medicinal and pharmacological properties. Previous research has demonstrated the anticancer effects of M. zapota leaf aqueous extract (MZLAE) on colon cancer cells. However, no animal study has investigated the effects of MZLAE on CAC. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the potential anti‐inflammatory effects of MZLAE on CAC in mice. In the present study, CAC was induced using azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sodium sulphate (DSS). The mice were randomly assigned into five groups: (a) normal, (b) AOM/DSS, (c) AOM/DSS + 50 mg/kg MZLAE, (d) AOM/DSS + 100 mg/kg MZLAE, and (e) AOM/DSS + 200 mg/kg MZLAE. Various parameters including disease activity index (DAI), colon length and weight, reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide, superoxide dismutase (SOD), histopathological assessment, and proinflammatory cytokines expression were analysed. The results indicated that MZLAE improved DAI scores, colon length, colon histological dysplasia and inflammation scores, and SOD level, while also reducing ROS production and expression of proinflammatory cytokines (tumour necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐ α) and interleukin 6 (IL‐6)). Abstract\nPLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARYInflammation induces tumor formation and plays a crucial role in tumor progression and prognosis. KCNK6, by regulating K(+) efflux to reduce NLRP3 Inflammasome-induced lung injury, relaxes the aorta. This study aims to elucidate the effects and biological mechanism of KCNK6 in inflammation-associated carcinogenesis, which may be essential for colon homeostasis and the defense system. To induce colitis, mice were given 3.0% Dextran Sodium Sulfate (DSS) in their drinking water for 7 days. The Azoxymethane (AOM) +DSS method was used to induce colon cancer in the mice model. Bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) from Kcnk6-/- mice, AW264.7 cells, and human colon cancer HCT116 and Caco2 cells were used as in vitro models. The loss of Kcnk6 prevented spontaneous colitis and restored mucosal integrity and homeostatic molecules. Additionally, the loss of Kcnk6 reduced the severity of AOM/DSS-induced carcinogenesis. Kcnk6 promoted cell viability and proliferation in HCT-116 or Caco-2 cells. The loss of Kcnk6 inhibited the levels of inflammatory factors in BMDM cells. Kcnk6 accelerated potassium channel activity, inducing NLRP3 inflammasome activation. METTL3-mediated m6A modification increased Kcnk6 stability in a YTHDF2-dependent manner. Histone lactylation activated the transcription of YTHDF2/Kcnk6. Our study revealed the important role of Kcnk6 in inflammation-associated carcinogenesis progression. The m6A methyltransferase METTL3 and histone lactylation increased Kcnk6 stability in a YTHDF2-dependent manner, providing a potential strategy for inflammation-associated carcinogenesis or colorectal cancer therapy.Our study revealed the important role of Kcnk6 senescence in inflammation associated carcinogenesis progression. Purpose: To report antegrade transvenous obliteration, with or without concurrent portosystemic shunt creation, for the treatment of hemorrhagic rectal varices. Materials and methods: Eight patients, including five (62.5%) females and three (37.5%) males, with mean age of 55.8 ± 13.8 years (range: 30–70 years), underwent transjugular-approach antegrade transvenous obliteration of rectal varices, with or without portosystemic shunt creation. Demographic data, procedural details, technical success of variceal obliteration, clinical success, adverse events, and follow-up outcomes were retrospectively recorded. Clinical success was defined as resolution of rectal hemorrhage. Results: Portal venous access was achieved via a transjugular intrahepatic approach in all patients. The inferior mesenteric vein was selected, and foamy sclerosant (1:2:3 mixture by volume of ethiodized oil: sodium tetradecyl sulfate: air) was injected into the rectal varices with antegrade balloon occlusion in seven (87.5%) and without balloon occlusion in one (12.5%). Five of eight (62.5%) patients underwent concomitant transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation (mean diameter 8.4 ± 0.9-mm) immediately following transvenous obliteration. Technical success of variceal obliteration was achieved in all patients. There were no immediate post-procedural adverse events. There were no reported occurrences of rectal ischemia, perforation, or stricture following obliteration. Two (40%) of the patients who underwent concomitant TIPS creation developed hepatic encephalopathy within 30 days of the procedure, which was medically managed. Clinical resolution of hemorrhage was achieved in all patients with no recurrent rectal variceal hemorrhage during mean follow-up of 666 ± 396 days (range: 14 − 1,224 days). Several studies have proved that leguminous lectins are often explored as a potential anti-cancer agent owing to their substantial anti-cancer properties which include inhibition of cell adhesion, proliferation and colony formation. This group of carbohydrate-binding proteins is seen to cause agglutination and an increase in cancer cell cytotoxicity. The study aims to isolate and purify the lectin present in Entada rheedii, a tropical legume and analyse its significance as a potential antiproliferative agent against human colorectal cancer cells. Previously published work confirmed the lactose, galactose and cellobiose specificity of the lectin, and this lectin was isolated, purified and separated by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Cytotoxic assay was performed to investigate the extent of its strength as an antiproliferative protein. The purified lectin agglutinates processed chicken RBCs with a maximum hemagglutination Unit of 32. The lectin was observed to be stable when stored at 0-4°C. The antiproliferative activity of lectin from Entada rheedii was confirmed against human colorectal carcinoma cells HCT 116 with IC50 values of 188.72 μg/mL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The phase composition of the powder synthesized from aqueous solutions of sodium silicate Na2SiO3 and iron sulfate FeSO4 at the molar ratio Fe/Si = 2, as determined by x-ray diffraction (XRD) data, included hydrated sodium iron sulfate Na2Fe(SO4)2 · 4H2O and an x-ray amorphous product based on hydrated iron and silicon oxides. The phase composition of the powder obtained by fourfold washing of the synthesized powder in distilled water was represented by an x-ray amorphous product. Following firing in the air at temperatures ranging from 400 to 1200°C, hematite (Fe2O3) and cristobalite (SiO2) were identified in powder samples and the corresponding ceramics. Following firing at 900°C in graphite powder bedding, the phase composition of ceramic samples included magnetite (Fe3O4), laihunite (Fe4.74(SiO4)3), and fayalite (Fe2SiO4). The powder prepared from the product isolated from the mother liquor included hydrated sodium iron sulfate, Na2Fe(SO4)2 · 4H2O, and sodium iron sulfate hydroxide hydrate (metasideronatrite), Na4Fe2(SO4)4(OH)2 · 3H2O. Following heat treatment at 400°C, sodium iron sulfate (Na3Fe(SO4)3) was identified as the predominant phase in the powder. Powders resulting from the interaction of aqueous solutions of sodium silicate and iron sulfate can be used in the manufacture of high-temperature dyes and materials with magnetic properties, the creation of analogs of lunar or Martian regolith, as well as the development of functional (cathode) materials for Na-ion batteries. A method to determine aceclofenac, ketorolac, and sulindac in human urine samples using microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) has been developed in this study. The optimization of MEEKC conditions was carried out by changing the microemulsion compositions including the buffer pH, borate salt concentration, surfactant concentration, co-surfactant concentration, organic modifier concentration, and oil droplet concentration. The optimum separation of selected drugs was obtained with a composition of microemulsion containing 10 mM borate buffer pH 9, 0.5% sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), 6.6% n-butanol, 6.0% acetonitrile, and 0.8% ethyl acetate. Excellent linearity was obtained in the range concentration of 25 to 200 ppm with r2 > 0.999. Limits of detection (LOD, S/N = 3) and limits of quantification (LOQ, S/N = 10) were 2.72 to 4.75 and 9.08 to 15.85 ppm, respectively. The solid-phase extraction (SPE) method using C-18 as an adsorbent and the solid phase micro-tip extraction (SPMTE) method using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as an adsorbent were used to clean-up and pre-concentrate the urine samples prior to the MEEKC analysis. The best recoveries of the selected drugs in the spiked urine sample were 91 to 103% with RSD of 1.26 to 4.03% (n = 3) using the SPE-MEEKC method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Unbalanced gut microbiota is considered to cause dysfunction of the gut barrier function. Lactobacillus johnsonii MG, isolated from mouse feces as gut associating lactobacilli, enhanced gut barrier function in Caco‐2 cells via interaction with JAM‐2 in tight junctions. In this study, the anti‐inflammatory effects of L. johnsonii MG were investigated in a colitis mouse model developed by treating mice with 3% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) for 9 days. Results: MG treatment of colitis mice resulted in fast recovery of the body weight and showed significant improvement in the disease activity index and histopathological scores. The histomorphological score increased by DSS treatment was significantly improved in the MG‐treated group. In the intestine, the expression of Ocln, Zo1, Itga6, Lama3, and Jam2 genes, which are involved in tight junction functions, were significantly upregulated in MG‐treated colitis mice. In the microflora analysis, the abundance of Ruminococcaceae, Bacteroides, and Lachnospiraceae were reduced in DSS‐treated mice and recovered by MG treatment. Conclusion: We reported the potential of L. johnsonii MG in the regeneration of crypts and integrity of matrix proteins in the gut of mice with colitis through its association with tight junctions. Synergistic effects of the synthetic calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H)/polycarboxylate (PCE) and Na2SO4 on hydration properties and microstructure of cement-lithium slag (LS) composite binder were analyzed. Results showed that C-S-Hs-PCE and Na2SO4 exhibited a synergistic effect on hydration acceleration of LS-cement binder. Na2SO4 increased alkalinity of interstitial solution and promoted dissolution of LS. Dissolved Al and Si from LS powder reacted with dissolved SO42− from Na2SO4 to produce extra hydrates, and C-S-Hs-PCE accelerated pozzolanic reaction as well as hydration reaction via nucleation effect collaborated with dispersing effect. C-S-Hs-PCE accelerated reaction process of Na2SO4 via nucleation effect, and activation effect of Na2SO4 provided more newly-formed hydrates to act as nucleation seeds or crystal skeleton for the hydration of new phases. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic non-specific intestinal inflammatory disease that affects millions of people worldwide, and current treatment methods have certain limitations. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic potential and mechanism of action of lemairamin (Wgx-50) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We used dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-treated zebrafish as an inflammatory bowel disease model, and observed the effect of Wgx-50 on DSS-induced colitis inflammation. The results of the study showed that Wgx-50 could reduce the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by DSS and inhibit the recruitment of neutrophils to the site of intestinal injury. Further experiments revealed that Wgx-50 exerted its anti-inflammatory effect by regulating the activation of the Akt pathway. An experiment was conducted to identify the factors that cause reduced production of cows fed a diet with high content of corn distillers grains with solubles (DDGS). We hypothesized that the factors could be high sulfur (S) content in DDGS, which may directly (S toxicity) or indirectly (DCAD) cause reduced production. We also hypothesized that high PUFA in DDGS could be another major factor. In a randomized complete block design, 60 lactating cows (15 primiparous and 45 multiparous; average ± SD at the beginning of the trial: milk yield, 44.0 ± 6.9 kg/d; DIM, 123 ± 50; BW, 672 ± 82 kg) were blocked, and cows in each block were randomly assigned to 1 of the following treatments: SBM (4.7% fatty acids [FA], 0.22% S, and 178 mEq/kg DM of DCAD), a diet containing soybean meal as the main protein source; DG, with SBM replacing mainly soybean byproducts and supplemental fat with distillers grains at 30% dietary DM (4.7% FA, 0.44% S, and 42 mEq/kg DM of DCAD); SBM+S, SBM with sodium bisulfate for additional dietary S (4.8% FA, 0.37% S, and 198 mEq/kg DM of DCAD); SBM+CO, SBM with corn oil (4.7% FA, 0.23%, and 165 mEq/kg DM of DCAD); and DG+DCAD, DG with increased DCAD (4.7% FA, 0.40% S, and 330 mEq/kg DM of DCAD). Due to the limited number of tiestalls, blocks 1 to 6 started the experiment first as phase 1, and the rest of the blocks, as phase 2, started the experiment after phase 1. All cows were fed the SBM diet for 10 d as a covariate period followed by the experimental period for 35 d. Data were analyzed using PROC MIXED of SAS (Version 9.4, SAS Institute Inc.); block and phase were random effects; and treatments, repeated week, and interaction were fixed effects. We found an interaction of week by treatment for DMI. Although milk yield did not change, milk fat concentration tended to decrease (2.78% vs. 3.34%) for DG compared with SBM. Dry matter, OM, NDF, and CP digestibilities were lower when cows were fed the DG diet compared with SBM. Additionally, cows fed DG had lower blood concentrations of HCO 3 −, base excess, and total (t)CO 2 compared with SBM. The SBM+S diet did not affect production, nutrient digestibility, or blood parameters compared with SBM. The SBM+CO diet decreased milk fat concentration and yield compared with SBM. The DG+DCAD diet tended to increase milk fat yield and concentration (1.24 vs. 1.47 kg/d; 2.78% vs. 3.37%) and increased ECM (40.9 vs. 45.1 kg/d) compared with DG but did not improve nutrient digestibility. However, blood HCO 3 −, base excess, and tCO 2 were greater for DG+DCAD compared with DG. In conclusion, the indirect role of S−, altering DCAD, along with the high PUFA content in DDGS, appear to be the factors causing reduced production responses to a high DDGS diet. Amelioration of hypercholesterolemia is essential for the treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Sodium sulphate is the effective component of mirabilite, which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of various diseases. In the present study, C57BL/6 mice were fed with a high-cholesterol diet (HCD) for 7 weeks and were treated with sodium sulphate in the last three of those weeks. Sodium sulphate significantly reduced the total cholesterol level and the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio in the serum of mice fed the HCD. In addition, cytochrome P450 7a1 and 39a1 were significantly upregulated in the livers of mice treated with sodium sulphate. Furthermore, tribbles pseudokinase 3 expression was significantly increased in the livers of mice fed the HCD, but was significantly reduced by sodium sulphate treatment. In terms of the insulin signaling pathway, the ratio of phosphorylated AKT to total AKT in the livers of mice fed the HCD was significantly lower compared with that of control mice fed a normal diet, but was significantly increased by sodium sulphate treatment. Sodium sulphate treatment also reduced the levels of fibroblast growth factor (FGF)15 in the ileum and inhibited the FGF15/FGF receptor 4-Klotho β/c-Jun N-terminal kinase/c-Jun signaling pathway in the livers of mice fed the HCD. In addition, sodium sulphate changed the compo- sition of the gut microbiota of mice fed the HCD. In light of its complicated makeup and fluctuating states of ice and salt crystals, it is challenging to forecast the strength of sodium sulfate saline sand. To examine the strength and deformation properties of sodium sulfate saline sand with various salt levels, many indoor triaxial shear tests were conducted at −2°C, −5°C, −8°C, and 25°C. The strength of sodium sulfate saline sand was found to be affected by temperature and the salt content, and the probable corresponding processes were then demonstrated. The introduction of the linear comparison composite (LCC) approach and homogenization theory led to the development of an upscaling strength model for sodium sulfate sand. Each phase's mechanical characteristics and the interactions between different components were taken into consideration. The triaxial tests of both unfrozen and frozen saline sand served as a basis for the developed strength prediction model's validation. [Display omitted] Hydrophilic cationic drugs such as mitoxantrone hydrochloride (MTO) pose a significant delivery challenge to the development of nanodrug systems. Herein, we report the use of a hydrophobic ion-pairing strategy to enhance the nano-assembly of MTO. We employed biocompatible sodium cholesteryl sulfate (SCS) as a modification module to form stable ion pairs with MTO, which balanced the intermolecular forces and facilitated nano-assembly. PEGylated MTO-SCS nanoassemblies (pMS NAs) were prepared via nanoprecipitation. We systematically evaluated the effect of the ratio of the drug module (MTO) to the modification module (SCS) on the nanoassemblies. The increased lipophilicity of MTO-SCS ion pair could significantly improve the encapsulation efficiency (∼97 %) and cellular uptake efficiency of MTO. The pMS NAs showed prolonged blood circulation, maintained the same level of tumor antiproliferative activity, and exhibited reduced toxicity compared with the free MTO solution. It is noteworthy that the stability, cellular uptake, cytotoxicity, and in vivo pharmacokinetic behavior of the pMS NAs increased in proportion to the molar ratio of SCS to MTO. This study presents a self-assembly strategy mediated by ion pairing to overcome the challenges commonly associated with the poor assembly ability of hydrophilic cationic drugs. Recovery of rare earth elements (REEs) from spent NdFeB magnets is important to meet the increasing demand for magnets and high-tech applications. In general, pretreatments of spent NdFeB magnets are necessary to recover REEs such as Nd, Pr, and Ce from the magnets. In this work, a simple process was proposed to recover REEs without any pretreatment of NdFeB magnets by using precipitation of REE(III) double salt. The correlations among several variables on the precipitation of REE(III) double salt were investigated by using synthetic solutions such as the molar ratio of Na(I) and sulfuric acid to Nd(III), the concentration of Nd(III) and Fe(III). The REES and iron present in NdFeB magnets were completely dissolved in 2 M H2SO4 solution at room temperature. The dissolved REE(III) ions were then directly separated by precipitation of double salt when Na2SO4 was added at 80°C. After REEs precipitation, the addition of iron powder to the filtrate at room temperature reduced Fe(III) to Fe(II) and removed a small amount of Cu(II) and Co(II) by cementation. Then Fe(II) and Na2SO4 were separated by precipitation of Fe(OH)2 when solution pH was adjusted to 8. The conditions for the precipitation of Nd(III) double salt were thermodynamically verified. Mass balance of continuous experiments indicated that it was possible to recover REEs and iron with high purity by the proposed process in this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our newly developed menthyl esters of valine and isoleucine exhibit anti‐inflammatory properties beyond those of the well‐known menthol in macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and in a mouse model of colitis induced by sodium dextran sulfate. Unlike menthol, which acts primarily through the cold‐sensitive TRPM8 channel, these menthyl esters displayed unique mechanisms that operate independently of this receptor. They readily penetrated target cells and efficiently suppressed LPS‐stimulated tumour necrosis factor‐alpha (Tnf) expression mediated by liver X receptor (LXR), a key nuclear receptor that regulates intracellular cholesterol and lipid balance. The menthyl esters showed affinity for LXR and enhanced the transcriptional activity through their non‐competitive and potentially synergistic agonistic effect. This effect can be attributed to the crucial involvement of SCD1, an enzyme regulated by LXR, which is central to lipid metabolism and plays a key role in the anti‐inflammatory response. In addition, we discovered that the menthyl esters showed remarkable efficacy in suppressing adipogenesis in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes at the mitotic clonal expansion stage in an LXR‐independent manner as well as in mice subjected to diet‐induced obesity. Based on the Thermal Decomposition of Xishan coal Experiments and ReaxFF MD Simulations, the study investigated the processes and product changes in the thermal decomposition of coal and the pyrolysis of coal with Na2SO4. The results indicate that the initial temperature of thermal decomposition of Xishan coal is around 300 °C in experiments and approximately 1600 K in molecular simulations. The addition of Na2SO4 advances the initial pyrolysis temperature and promotes the generation of total number and types of products. Xishan coal pyrolysis generates a large number of small molecular gases and free radicals, and the addition of Na2SO4 promotes the generation of CO, CH4, and H2S, as well as the accumulation of a significant number of free radicals. Free Na mainly affects the evolution of N elements, promoting the formation of N into amino groups, and Na easily combines with sulfur-containing intermediates. Through the extraction of sulfur-containing intermediates and the analysis of the influence of free radicals, it was found that S elements Xishan coal ultimately forms H2S. This study microscopically confirms that in the coal with Na2SO4 system, H2S originates from the hybridised sulfur atoms in the carbon chain and free ${\rm SO}_4^{2-}$ SO 4 2 − . The structural, optical and acoustical properties of a polymer composite of sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) doped polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) were studied. The simple chemical route method was utilized for the preparation of the polymer composite by varying the concentration of Na ions in the PVP. The pure 3% PVP solution was mixed with five different concentrations of Na2SO4 solutions in the ratio of 80:20. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra of PVP/Na2SO4 (1.0% of Na2SO4 in 3.0% of PVP) confirmed the crystalline nature of the PVP/Na2SO4 polymer composite. The identification of several chemical functional groups contained in the PVP/Na2SO4 was demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The FTIR showed the excellent interaction between the polymer (PVP) and the dopant Na2SO4. Optical studies were performed by utilizing a UV-visible absorbance spectrophotometer. The UV-VIS spectroscopy results indicated that absorption increased in an asymmetric manner and the absorption peak showed a red shift with increasing Na ions concentration in the host PVP. The optical band gaps (direct and indirect) were found to decrease with increase in Na ions concentration in the polymer due to increase in the density of localized states in the band-gap. The activation and Urbach energies were evaluated from the conductivity measurements and the absorption coefficient, respectively. Several acoustical parameters, viz. ultrasonic velocity, density, viscosity, adiabatic compressibility, intermolecular free length, acoustic impedance, and surface tension, were also computed. The ultrasonic velocity, acoustic impedance, density, viscosity, and surface tension of the polymer solutions were found to increase while the adiabatic compressibility and intermolecular free length decreased with the addition of increasing amounts of Na ions in PVP. Yellow tea (YT), a slightly fermented tea with a unique yellowing process and mellow taste, is becoming widely popular. Currently, the YT includes bud yellow tea (BYT), small-leaf yellow tea (SYT), and large-leaf yellow tea (LYT) based on maturity of raw materials. Previous studies have shown that YT has outstanding potential in preventing metabolic syndrome. However, the distinct effects and mechanisms of different types of YT on ulcerative colitis (UC) are still unclear. This study investigated the effects and mechanisms of continuous or intermittent intervention of three yellow tea water extracts (YTEs) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis in CD-1 mice. The results showed that YTE intervention significantly improves the syndrome of DSS-induced UC in mice. Mechanistic studies reveal that YTEs increase the expression levels of tight junction (TJ) proteins and reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the colon by inactivating TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3. YTE treatment protected intestinal barrier integrity and reduced serum lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels. Interestingly, our results indicate that large-leaf yellow tea (LYT) has a better alleviating effect than BYT and SYT. YTE intervention before DSS administration has a certain degree of preventive effect on ulcerative colitis, while continuous YTE intervention after DSS induction has a significant reversing effect on the damage caused by DSS. Esomeprazole (ESO) is one of the proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that is commonly used to treat extreme acidity and gastrointestinal irritation. Since it is used at a high rate, it is now classified as a pollutant of emerging concern (CEC). ESO gravely jeopardizes the health of living beings because it persists in water and wastewater sources even after standard treatment. Studies on the effective removal of PPIs, especially ESO, are scarce. In the current study, esomeprazole is disintegrated in water using electrochemical oxidation (EO). Titanium cathode with sodium sulfate electrolyte and carbon coated titanium (C/Ti) anode were used to apply EO. Through optimization studies utilizing COD measurement, it was discovered that 93% of the COD could be removed at pH 3, 60 mM sodium sulfate concentration, 300 min treatment period, and 115 mA cm−2 current density. Whereas TOC research revealed only 44% mineralization, HPLC‐PDA experiments revealed 100% ESO transformation. High resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) studies were used to propose a degradation mechanism and pathway. The primary processes of degradation included desulfurization, thioperoxole group formation, sulfinyl benzimidazole group breakage, and demethylation. Salt crystallization is a particularly relevant issue in the conservation of limestones used in Cultural Heritage sites. In this study, various facies of limestones were characterized through porosimetric and mechanical tests. The samples were subjected to experiments to determine their resistance to salt crystallization by verifying the number of cycles at which 50% of them began to lose weight. This number of experimental cycles was compared with the result calculated by the analytical procedure of a chemomechanical model found in the literature. Geopolymer foam concrete (GFC), an emerging thermal insulation material known for its environmentally friendly and low-carbon attributes, has gained prominence for its use in bolstering building energy efficiency. A critical challenge in GFC production is foam destabilization by the alkaline environment in which foam is supersaturated with salt. In this study, GFC was prepared by using triterpene saponin (TS), sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as blowing agents, with fly ash as the precursor and calcium carbide slag (CA) combined with Glauber's salt (GS, Na2SO4 ≥ 99%) as the activator. The effect of GFC on mechanical properties was analyzed by examining its fluidity, pore structure, dry density, and compressive strength. The results show that TS has a stable liquid film capable of adapting to the adverse effects of salt supersaturation and alkaline environments. TS is highly stable in the GFC matrix, and so the corresponding pore size is small, and the connectivity is low in the hardened GFC. In addition, the hydration products of GFC exhibit different morphologies depending on the surfactant used. Acridinium esters, due to their capability for chemiluminescence (CL), are employed as indicators and labels in biomedical diagnostics and other fields. In this work, the influence of ionic surfactants, hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride and bromide (CTAC and CTAB, cationic) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS, anionic) on the CL parameters and mechanism of representative emitter, 10-methyl-9-[(2-methylphenoxy)carbonyl]acridinium trifluoromethanesulphonate (2MeX) in a H2O2/NaOH environment, is studied. Our investigations revealed that the type of surfactant and its form in solution have an impact on the CL kinetic constants and integral efficiencies, while changes in those emission properties resulting from the type of ion (Cl− vs. Br−) are negligible. The major changes were recorded for systems containing surfactants at concentrations higher than the critical micelle concentration. The cationic surfactants (CTAC, CTAB) cause a substantial increase in CL emission kinetics and a moderate increase in its integral efficiency. At the same time, the opposite effect is observed in the case of SDS. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that changes in emission parameters are likely due to differences in the binding strength of 2MeX substrate with surfactant molecules, which is higher for SDS than for CTAC. The results can help in rational designing of optimal acridinium CL systems and demonstrate their usefulness in distinguishing the pre- and post-micellar environment and the charge of surfactants. In the present work, the volumetric and conductometric studies to find the interactions between amino acids DL-Valine and DL-Serine with cationic and anionic surfactants, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) in aqueous solutions at different temperatures and atmospheric pressure were carried out. The effect of pre- and post-micellar concentrations of surfactants on the physicochemical properties was also studied. The densities measured experimentally were used to calculate the thermodynamic parameters such as the apparent molar volumes, ϕv, partial molar volumes, , transfer volumes, (tr), and partial molar expansibilities, at temperatures from 288.15 to 303.15 K while the conductivity data obtained at different temperatures from 293.15 to 318.15 K were used to obtain the molar conductivities () as well as limiting molar conductivities () from specific conductivities (κ) which reflect the interaction prevailing within the studied systems. In addition, the UV-visible absorption spectroscopy at 298.15 K has also been performed in the presence of fluorescein to study the interaction within above mentioned systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The deformulation stage of original drug products, which includes the quantification of critical excipients, is crucial for the successful development of generic drug products of solid dosage form. Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) belongs to the group of critical excipients due to its influence on the bioavailability of drugs, such as metformin. The purpose of this work is to carry out a feasibility study in order to develop a simple, economical, and robust analytical method for the quantification of SLS in metformin-containing tablets after their dissolution in water. Firstly, SLS is extracted with chloroform in acidic conditions, followed by the addition of methylene blue (MB) in order to form a SLS-MB ion pair, which is then measured photometrically at a wavelength of 651 nm. Additionally, interference from matrix components (excipients and APIs) was assessed, and it was found that metformin also forms a blue complex; therefore, this specific extraction method was developed. Other matrix components did not interfere with SLS determination. This method shows a well-estimated precision of 3.3% and accuracy of 5%, a calibration linearity of R2 = 0.99990, and a working range of 0.38 µg/mL to 10 µg/mL of SLS in water. The midpoint of the calibration graph corresponds to the concentration of SLS obtained by dissolving a single tablet in 1 L of water. This study addressed primarily the characterisation and quantification of titanium dioxide (TiO2) (nano)particles (NPs) in a large variety of commercial foodstuffs. The samples were purchased from local markets in Spain before the ban of TiO2 food additive (E171) in the EU. The analyses were carried out by single particle inductively coupled plasma-tandem mass spectrometry (spICP-MS/MS) in mass shift mode (oxidation of 48Ti to 48Ti16O (m/z = 64)) and using a highly efficient sample introduction system (APEX™ Ω). This novel analytical approach allowed accurate characterisation of a large panel of TiO2 NPs sizes ranging from ∼12 to ∼800 nm without isobaric interferences from 48Ca isotope, which is highly abundant in most of the analysed foodstuffs. TiO2 NPs were extracted from foodstuffs using sodium dodecyl sulphate (0.1%, w/v) and diluted with ultra-pure water to reach ∼ 1000 particles signals per acquisition. All the analysed samples contained TiO2 NPs with concentrations ranging from 1010 to 1014 particles kg−1, but with significant low recoveries compared to the total Ti determination. A selection of samples was also analysed using a similar spICP-MS/MS approach with a conventional sample introduction system. The comparison of results highlighted the improvement of the limit of detection in size (12 nm) by the APEX™ Ω system, providing nanoparticulate fractions ranging from ∼4% (cheddar sauce) up to ∼87% (chewing gum), which is among the highest nanoparticulate fractions reported in literature using a spICP-MS approach. In addition, two commercially available E171 additives were analysed using the previous approaches and other techniques in different European laboratories with the aim of methods inter-comparison. This study provides occurrence data related to TiO2 NPs in common commercial foodstuffs but it also demonstrates the potential of the novel analytical approach based on APEX™-ICP-MS/MS to characterise nano-size TiO2 particles in complex matrices such as foodstuffs.
