Background: The clinical strategy of oral supplementation of Vitamin D (VD) as a preventive and therapeutic measure for warts needs further exploration. Methods: The clinical data of patients with skin diseases who visited the Children's Hospital affiliated with Chongqing Medical University from February 2018 to June 2024 were collected. The serum VD levels in patients with warts (common warts, flat warts, and plantar warts) and patients with other common skin diseases (atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, alopecia areata, vitiligo, and chronic urticaria) were compared. Two‐sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to investigate potential causal associations between VD and warts. Results: The average serum VD level of children with warts was 23.27 ± 7.07 ng/mL, which showed no statistically significant difference compared to children with other common skin diseases. The inverse variance weighted (IVW) method analysis indicated a positive causal relationship between VD and warts (Odds Ratio [OR] = 1.86, [95% CI: 1.19−2.92], p = 0.007). Sensitivity analysis did not show any indication of horizontal pleiotropy or heterogeneity. The MR‐PRESSO method did not identify any outliers. Conclusion: The levels of serum VD in children with warts do not significantly decrease compared to children with other common skin conditions. The evidence from the MR analysis indicates a positive causal relationship between VD and warts, suggesting caution in supplementing VD for children with warts who have normal or elevated serum VD levels. Background: Glycyrrhetinic acid-mediated brucine self-assembled nanomicelles enhance the anti-hepatitis B properties of brucine by improving its water solubility, short half-life, toxicity, and side effects. Brucine (B) is an indole alkaloid extracted from the seeds of Strychnos nux-vomica (Loganiaceae). Purpose: To assess the efficacy of the Brucine-Glycyrrhetnic acid-Polyethylene glycol-3,3'-dithiodipropionic acid-Glycerin monostearate (B-GPSG) in treating hepatitis B, its potential to protect against acute liver injury caused by d -galactosamine and its anti-hepatoma activities were studied. Research Design: The concentration of B-GPSG used in the in vivo and in vitro experiments was 0.63 mg/mL. The rats injected with d -GalN (450 mg/kg) were used as liver injury models. The rats were separated into normal, model, positive, positive control, B-PSG and B-GPSG groups. Hepatoma cells expressing HBV HepG2.2.15 were used for in vitro experiments. 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, plate cloning, Hoechst staining and flow cytometry were conducted to explore the mechanism of B-GPSG against hepatitis B. Results: Compared with the model group, the liver coefficient of B-GPSG group decreased (4.59 ± 0.17 vs 5.88 ± 0.42), the content of MDA in rat liver homogenate decreased (12.54 ± 1.81 vs 23.05 ± 2.98), the activity of SOD increased, the activity of ALT and AST in rat serum decreased. In vitro, the IC50 values of B-GPSG group decreased. B-GPSG group effectively inhibited the proliferation and migration of HepG2.2.15 cells. Conclusions: The hepatoprotective effects of B-GPSG nanomicelles, which are attributed to their GA-mediated liver targeting and synergistic actions with brucine, suggest their therapeutic potential against hepatitis B. To understand the effect of the spontaneous imbibition (SI) and waterflooding on oil recovery in the tight sandstone reservoirs, we selected three pairs of tight sandstone samples from the Ordos Basin in China to conduct the SI-plus-waterflooding and waterflooding-only experiments, and monitor the oil distribution and flow characteristics by using the low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology. One interesting observation was that oil extracted in the SI process mainly comes from macropores and micropores, which doesn't agree with the previous results wherein oil was produced from micropores, and oil was produced from the mesopores during the waterflooding after the SI process. The oil recovery factor of tight sandstone samples in the process of the SI-plus-waterflooding was more than 50%, and even more than 85%, which was greater than that in the waterflooding-only process. Moreover, we found that our tight sandstone samples behaved lower residual oil saturation, and wider oil-water two-phase co-flow region during the SI-plus-waterflooding process than that did during the waterflooding-only process. These differences in behavior appear to be linked to the fluid dynamic characteristics and capillary pressure acting on the flow fluid during the two processes. Background: Intestinal necrosis in uremic patients has been reported but is rare. Case presentation: A 56-year-old male patient who underwent long-term regular haemodialysis was admitted to the hospital due to involuntary shaking of the limbs and nonsense speech. The patient's symptoms improved after continuous blood purification under heparin anticoagulation, rehydration, sedation, and correction of electrolyte disturbances. However, the patient experienced a sudden onset of abdominal pain and a rapid decrease in blood pressure; high-dose norepinephrine were required to maintain his blood pressure. A plain abdominal radiograph performed at bedside showed intestinal dilation. Colonoscopy revealed inflammation and oedema of the entire colon, with purulent secretions and multiple areas of patchy necrosis. The cause of intestinal ischaemia was not clear. Conclusions: Although rare, previous causes of uremic colitis have been reported. As the patient developed abdominal pain before the onset of shock and the necrosis was seen on colonoscopy, we suspect that this is a case of fulminant uremic colitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research assesses the determinants impacting the behavior in rural tourism destinations regarding tourists' waste sorting (WSB), emphasizing the significance of social norms and peer networks. Survey data was gathered from 955 participants in rural tourist destinations across Henan, Shandong, and Anhui provinces. The empirical findings illuminate several crucial aspects: (1) social norms and peer networks wield a positive, catalyzing influence on tourists' WSB in rural tourism settings. (2) Peer attitudes shape tourists' WSB, and environmental cognition plays a pivotal mediating role. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive exploration of the influence of social norms and peer networks on tourists' WSB in rural tourism destinations, highlighting the unique interplay of cognitive, behavioral, and attitudinal factors in this context. The demand for the azeotropic C2ClF5/C3F8 separation continues to rise owing to the significance of ultrapure fluoride gases for the electronic industry. With a boiling point differential of 1.1 K, separating an azeotropic mixture of C2ClF5/C3F8 through sorption‐based processes under ambient conditions is a preferable alternative to the current energy‐intensive cryogenic separation method. Here, we report the highly efficient C2ClF5/C3F8 adsorption separation in quaternary alkylammonium ions modified MFI type zeolites with interlaced channels which provide a cooperative effect conferred by specific interaction sites and optimal pore size. A path‐regulatory mechanism was proposed, whereby TMA+ cations located at intersections resembling "train turnouts" force gas molecules to switch traffic channels to confined sinusoidal channels affecting the C2ClF5/C3F8 recognition sites and diffusion behavior. Molecular simulations were conducted to reveal the separation mechanism, and the breakthrough experiment validated the effectiveness of this adsorbent at 298 K outperforming conventional adsorbents for the challenging azeotropic separation. Chiral sulfoxides are valuable building blocks in asymmetric synthesis. However, the biocatalytic synthesis of chiral sulfoxides is still challenged by low product titres. Herein, we report the use of peroxygenase as a catalyst for asymmetric sulfoxidation under non‐aqueous conditions. Upon covalent immobilisation, the peroxygenase showed stability and activity under neat reaction conditions. A large variety of sulfides was converted into chiral sulfoxides in very high product concentration with moderate to satisfactory optical purity (e. g. 626 mM of (R)‐methyl phenyl sulfoxide in approx. 89 % ee in 48 h). Further polishing of the ee value via cascading methionine reductase A (MsrA) gave>99 % ee of the sulfoxide. The robustness of the enzymes and high product titer is superior to the state‐of‐the‐art methodologies. Gram‐scale synthesis has been demonstrated. The objective of this work is to investigate adsorption separation of liquid‐phase xylene isomers using ultramicroporous carbon spheres. The synthesized glucose‐based adsorbent (UMC‐xyl) enabled the challenging separation of liquid‐phase p‐xylene/m‐xylene with an adsorption selectivity of 53 as well as p‐xylene uptake of 91mg/g, outperforming a series of commercial adsorbents including the industrial benchmark KBaX. The micropore diffusion model was used to give the best fit to the adsorption kinetics of UMC‐xyl with a rate achieved higher than KBaX. The xylene isomer separation was facilitated by the narrow ultramicropore size distributed at 5.8–6.8 Å in UMC‐xyl via a synergistic kinetic and size‐sieving separation mechanism. Breakthrough experiments confirmed the effectiveness of UMC‐xyl in the dynamic selective separation of p‐xylene from xylene isomers, together with superior multiple‐cycle eluent regenerability under the synergistic effects of the "like‐dissolve‐like" principle and π–π interaction. The work opens a new direction of using porous carbon adsorbents for continuous liquid‐phase separation of challenging hydrocarbon isomers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Brassica napus is currently the principal field crop for producing materials for primary, secondary and tertiary industries. B. napus shoots at stem elongation stage are rich in anthocyanins, vitamin C and mineral elements such as selenium, calcium and zinc, and represent a new type of green vegetable. However, the high crude fiber (CF) content of B. napus shoots affects their taste, and few studies have focused on the quality traits of these vegetables. In this study, we investigated five traits related to the CF components, including neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), acid detergent lignin (ADL), hemicellulose (Hem) and cellulose (Cel), of B. napus shoots. Whole-genome resequencing at a depth of ∼20× was utilized to genotype an association panel of 202 diverse accessions, which resulted in the identification of 6,093,649 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 996,252 indels, respectively. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed for the five CF-related traits based on the phenotypic data observed in four environments. A total of 1,285 significant SNPs were detected at the threshold of -log 10 ( p ) = 5.16, and 97 significant association regions were obtained. In addition, seven candidate genes located on chromosomes A2 (one gene), A8 (three genes), A9 (two genes) and C9 (one gene) related to CF traits were identified, and ten lines containing low CF contents were selected as excellent germplasm resources for breeding. Our results contributed new insights into the genetic basis of CF traits and suggested germplasm resources for the quality improvement of B. napus shoots.

Background & Aims: The association between artificial sweeteners and various cancers has been investigated, but their relationship with respiratory system cancers remains uncertain. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a comprehensive Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis., Methods: We looked for SNPs associated with artificial sweetener intake and respiratory system cancers from the IEU OpenGWAS project, as well as SNPs related to sweet taste in artificial sweeteners from Hwang et al.'s study. Rigorous quality control procedures were implemented to select instrumental Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms that were closely linked to artificial sweetener intake. To ensure the reliability of our findings, we employed five different analytical methods, with the inverse variance weighting method being the primary approach. Additionally, we thoroughly assessed heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and sensitivity. Finally, we conducted Multivariable Mendelian Randomization (MVMR) to validate our results., Results: Intake of artificial sweetener added to cereal showed a positive association with malignant neoplasm of the lip, oral cavity, and pharynx (OR: 1027.54; 95% CI: 4.8-219994.46; P = 0.011), and the result was also confirmed by the MVMR analysis. In addition, better perceived intensity of aspartame was negatively associated with cancers in these regions (OR: 0.49; 95% CI: 0.28-0.88; P = 0.016). Intake of artificial sweetener added to coffee or tea was not related with respiratory system cancer., Conclusions: Our research offers evidence that the consumption of artificial sweeteners in cereals could increase the risk of cancers in the lip, oral cavity, and pharynx. Objective: This study aimed to establish an effective prognostic model based on triglyceride and inflammatory markers, including neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), to predict overall survival (OS) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Additionally, we aimed to explore the interaction and mediation between these biomarkers in their association with OS., Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on 259 NPC patients who had blood lipid markers, including triglyceride and total cholesterol, as well as parameters of peripheral blood cells measured before treatment. These patients were followed up for over 5 years, and randomly divided into a training set (n=155) and a validation set (n=104). The triglyceride-inflammation (TI) score was developed using the random survival forest (RSF) algorithm. Subsequently, a nomogram was created. The performance of the prognostic model was measured by the concordance index (C-index), time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). The interaction and mediation between the biomarkers were further analyzed. Bioinformatics analysis based on the GEO dataset was used to investigate the association between triglyceride metabolism and immune cell infiltration., Results: The C-index of the TI score was 0.806 in the training set, 0.759 in the validation set, and 0.808 in the entire set. The area under the curve of time-dependent ROC of TI score in predicting survival at 1, 3, and 5 years were 0.741, 0.847, and 0.871 respectively in the training set, and 0.811, 0.837, and 0.758 in the validation set, then 0.771, 0.848, and 0.862 in the entire set, suggesting that TI score had excellent performance in predicting OS in NPC patients. Patients with stage T1-T2 or M0 had significantly lower TI scores, NLR, and PLR, and higher LMR compared to those with stage T3-T3 or M1, respectively. The nomogram, which integrated age, sex, clinical stage, and TI score, demonstrated good clinical usefulness and predictive ability, as evaluated by the DCA. Significant interactions were found between triglyceride and NLR and platelet, but triglyceride did not exhibit any medicating effects in the inflammatory markers. Additionally, NPC tissues with active triglyceride synthesis exhibited high immune cell infiltration., Conclusion: The TI score based on RSF represents a potential prognostic factor for NPC patients, offering convenience and economic advantages. An undescribed bisflavonoid, named involucrasin D ( 1 ), along with two known flavonoids, 2(S)7,3',5'-trihydroxydihydroflavone ( 2 ) and sigmone ( 3 ) were isolated from the roots of Shuteria involucrata . A further chiral separation of 1 to yielded a pair of enantiomers (+)- 1 and (-)- 1 . The structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic analyses and electron circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Among them, bisflavonoid 1 and its enantiomers displayed remarkable anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of TNF- α and IL-6 in a dose-dependent manner.

Background: Early-stage colorectal cancer (CRC) patients treated with either endoscopic resection (ER) alone or combined ER with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) have unknown survival rates. A national descriptive epidemiological study was conducted to compare the long-term survival of patients with T1 stage CRC with or without the two different treatment options., Methods: Our study identified the records of patients with T1-stage CRC between 2010 and 2018 by searching the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Long-term survival was compared using Kaplan-Meier methods and Cox proportional hazard models based on patient demographic and cancer parameters., Results: After propensity score matching (PSM), 825 T1-stage CRC patients were finally enrolled in this study, with 718 patients treated with ER and 107 patients treated with ER + CRT. The overall survival (OS) and cancer specific survival (CSS) rates were similar between the two treatment options (OS: P=0.47; CSS: P=0.28). According to subgroup analysis, older patients and patients with rectal tumor locations exhibited significantly higher OS and CSS rates in the ER + CRT group than in the ER group (OS: P<0.0001; CSS: P<0.0001)., Conclusions: The findings from the SEER database showed that OS and CSS rates were similar between the ER and ER + CRT treated groups. The linear dichroism demonstrates promising applications in the fields of polarization-resolved photodetectors and polarization optical imaging. Herein, we study the optical properties of monolayer 1T'-MoS 2 based on a four-band effective k · p Hamiltonian within the framework of linear response theory. Owing to the anisotropic band structure, the k-resolved optical transition matrix elements associated with armchair(x) and zigzag(y) direction polarized light exhibit a staggered pattern. The anisotropy of the optical absorption spectrum is shown to sensitively depend on the photon energy, the light polarization and the gate voltage. A gate voltage can continuously modulate the anisotropy of the optical absorption spectra, rendering it isotropic or even reversing the initial anisotropy. This modulation leads to linear dichroism conversions across multiple wavelengths. Our findings are useful to design polarized photodetectors and sensors based on monolayer 1T'-MoS 2 . Our results are also applicable to other monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides with 1T' structure.
