Abstract

Large language models (LLMs) have significantly advanced natural language processing tasks, yet they are susceptible to generating inaccurate or unreliable responses, a phenomenon known as hallucination. In critical domains such as health and medicine, these hallucinations can pose serious risks. This paper introduces HALO, a novel framework designed to enhance the accuracy and reliability of medical question-answering (QA) systems by focusing on the detection and mitigation of hallucinations. Our approach generates multiple variations of a given query using LLMs and retrieves relevant information from external open knowledge bases to enrich the context. We utilize maximum marginal relevance scoring to prioritize the retrieved context, which is then provided to LLMs for answer generation, thereby reducing the risk of hallucinations. The integration of LangChain further streamlines this process, resulting in a notable and robust increase in the accuracy of both open-source and commercial LLMs, such as Llama-3.1 (from 44% to 65%) and ChatGPT (from 56% to 70%). This framework underscores the critical importance of addressing hallucinations in medical QA systems, ultimately improving clinical decision-making and patient care. 2. TREB: a BERT attempt for imputing tabular data imputation

Abstract

TREB, a novel tabular imputation framework utilizing BERT, introduces a groundbreaking approach for handling missing values in tabular data. Unlike traditional methods that often overlook the specific demands of imputation, TREB leverages the robust capabilities of BERT to address this critical task. While many BERT-based approaches for tabular data have emerged, they frequently under-utilize the language model's full potential. To rectify this, TREB employs a BERT-based model fine-tuned specifically for the task of imputing real-valued continuous numbers in tabular datasets. The paper comprehensively addresses the unique challenges posed by tabular data imputation, emphasizing the importance of context-based interconnections. The effectiveness of TREB is validated through rigorous evaluation using the California Housing dataset. The results demonstrate its ability to preserve feature interrelationships and accurately impute missing values. 3. Generating 3D House Wireframes with Semantics

Abstract

We present a new approach for generating 3D house wireframes with semantic enrichment using an autoregressive model. Unlike conventional generative models that independently process vertices, edges, and faces, our approach employs a unified wire-based representation for improved coherence in learning 3D wireframe structures. By re-ordering wire sequences based on semantic meanings, we facilitate seamless semantic integration during sequence generation. Our two-phase technique merges a graph-based autoencoder with a transformer-based decoder to learn latent geometric tokens and generate semantic-aware wireframes. Through iterative prediction and decoding during inference, our model produces detailed wireframes that can be easily segmented into distinct components, such as walls, roofs, and rooms, reflecting the semantic essence of the shape. Empirical results on a comprehensive house dataset validate the superior accuracy, novelty, and semantic fidelity of our model compared to existing generative models. 11. Partitioning of high-penetration renewable energy power systems for parallel restoration

Abstract

To expedite the restoration of high-penetration new energy power systems following outages， a partitioning method for parallel restoration is proposed. This method takes into account the characteristics of new energy output. Multi-time-step series scenarios are generated by comprehensively considering spatiotemporal correlation of the output of new energy power supply. An expected multi-time-step series scenario of new energy power supply， considering occurrence probability of each series scenario， is constructed. Based on the expected multi-time-step series scenario of the new energy power supply， the available power of each charged domain is determined， and each charged domain is partitioned accordingly. In cases where there is overlap in partitioning， adjustments are made for objects to be restored in the overlapping areas. Factors considered include time inertia constants， ramp rate， adjustment rate， expected additional generation capacity， and the restoration value of the de-energized branches. Finally， using the IEEE118-bus system as a basis， it is demonstrated that the proposed partitioning method for parallel restoration can accelerate the grid restoration and reduce the power outage losses.

Abstract

Litter input is a critical link between the circulation and flows of energy and matter in forest ecosystems. Drought events impact litter inputs, affecting forest ecosystems’ nutrient and energy cycles. To investigate the response of litter production to extreme drought, explore their recovery mechanism, and the difference between whole year, concurrent drought, non-drought period, rainy season, and dry season. We studied an extreme drought event in a subtropical evergreen broadleaved forest in the Ailao Mountain in 2009–2010. We used 10 years (2005–2014) of monthly litter production and climate data, including monthly average precipitation (MAP), soil water content (SWC), and monthly average temperature (MAT). The observation period was separated into pre-drought (2005–2008), during-drought (2009–2010), and post-drought (2011–2014) periods. Abstract

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit 2 (EIF2S2), a subunit of the heterotrimeric G protein EIF2, is involved in the initiation of translation. Our findings demonstrate that the depletion of Eif2s2 in premeiotic germ cells causes oocyte arrest at the pachytene and early diplotene stages at 1 day postpartum (dpp) and 5 dpp, respectively, and eventually leads to oocyte apoptosis and failure of primordial follicle formation. Further studies reveal that Eif2s2 deletion downregulates homologous recombination‐related and mitochondrial fission‐related protein levels, and upregulates the integrated stress response‐related proteins and mRNA levels. Consistently, Eif2s2 deletion significantly decreases the expression of dictyate genes and compromises mitochondrial function, characterized by elongated shapes, decreased ATP levels and mtDNA copy number, along with an excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial superoxide. Furthermore, DNA damage response and proapoptotic protein levels increase, while anti‐apoptotic protein levels decrease in Eif2s2‐deleted mice. An increase in oocytes with positive cleaved‐Caspase‐3 and TUNEL signals, alongside reduced Lamin B1 intensity, further indicates oocyte apoptosis. Collectively, Eif2s2 deletion in premeiotic germ cells causes oocyte meiotic arrest at the early diplotene stage by impairing homologous recombination, and eventually leads to oocyte apoptosis mainly through the downregulation of mitochondrial fission‐related proteins, ROS accumulation and subsequent DNA damage. 50. Study on solution combustion synthesis and electrochemical performance of V2O5–Cu as cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

Abstract

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are widely regarded as a highly potential alternative power source, chiefly owing to the superior safety characteristics. Vanadium-based compounds, especially V2O5 cathode materials, have been widely studied due to the advantages of suitable working voltage windows and highly reversible redox reactions. Nevertheless, the inadequate conductivity of V2O5 and its intrinsic structural instability have hindered its utility in AZIBs. This study introduces a straightforward one-step solution combustion method for synthesizing copper-ion-doped V2O5, aimed at enhancing its structural robustness and electrochemical efficacy. The modified material resulted in expanded interlayer spacing, increased ionic diffusion rate, higher concentration of low-valence vanadium and oxygen vacancies, consequently enhancing electron mobility and facilitating electrochemical reactions. This enhancement led to an increased discharge specific capacity of the material. When V2O5–Cu is employed as the cathode material in aqueous zinc-ion batteries, it achieves a discharge specific capacity of up to 300 mAh g−1 at a current density of 4 A g−1.
