Purpose: We investigated the effects of classroom-based physical activity (CBPA) interventions on academic performance and assessed the impact of different CBPA elements on academic performance. Methods: Relevant experimental studies in four databases were searched from their inception to September 2022. Random effects models were used to compute standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 13 studies were included. CBPA interventions could improve academic performance in children and adolescents (SMD = 0.17, p =.02). For the CBPA elements, low frequency (no more than three times per week; SMD = 0.19, p =.01), moderate intensity (SMD = 0.19, p =.01), long time (more than 20 min in each intervention; SMD = 0.14, p =.05), integrated physical activity (SMD = 0.18, p =.04), no more than 400 metabolic equivalents of energy-min/week (SMD = 0.33, p =.001), and more than 8-week interventions (SMD = 0.19, p =.04) tended to improve academic performance. Conclusions: CBPA may improve academic performance in children and adolescents. CBPA elements also have an impact on academic performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Emerging studies have examined the effectiveness of combined exercise and cognitive intervention (combined intervention) on the cognitive function of older adults with MCI, but the conclusions remain disputed. Our study aimed to comprehensively examine the efficacy of the combined intervention on cognitive and physical function in older adults with MCI. PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and PsycINFO were retrieved to identify the relevant articles. Twelve eligible studies were included, and the results showed that combined intervention significantly improved global cognition SMD = 0.26, 95% CI [0.14-0.39], p<0.0001), executive function (SMD = 0.40, 95% CI [0.25-0.56], p < 0.00001), memory (SMD = 0.30, 95% CI [0.22-0.39], p <0.00001), and gait performance (SMD = 0.32, 95% CI [0.03-0.62], P = 0.03) compared to the control group. Combined intervention significantly improved executive function compared to single exercise intervention while not showing a statistically significant difference compared to single cognitive intervention. Moreover, no significant difference was observed between simultaneously and sequentially combined intervention. The finding indicated that combined intervention is efficacious in improving global cognition and selectively enhancing cognitive domains and physical function in older adults with MCI. Cisplatin is a widely used chemotherapeutic drug that can induce ovarian damage. Icariin (ICA), a natural antioxidant derived from Epimedium brevicornum Maxim., has been found to protect against organ injury. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether ICA can exert an ovarian-protective effect on cisplatin induced premature ovarian failure (POF) and the underlying mechanism involved. The preventive effect of ICA was evaluated using body weight, the oestrous cycle, ovarian histological analysis, and follicle counting. ICA treatment increased body weight, ovarian weight, and the number of follicles and improved the oestrous cycle in POF mice. ICA reduced cisplatin-induced oxidative damage and upregulated the protein expression levels of Nrf2, GPX4 and HO-1. Moreover, ICA reduced the expression levels of Bax and γH2AX and inhibited ovarian apoptosis. In addition, ICA activated the Nrf2 pathway in vitro and reversed changes in the viability of cisplatin-induced KGN cells, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, lipid peroxidation, and apoptosis, and these effects were abrogated when Nrf2 was knocked down or inhibited. Molecular docking confirmed that ICA promotes the release of Nrf2 by competing with Nrf2 for binding to Keap1. The inhibitory effects of ICA on cisplatin-induced oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and apoptosis may be mediated by its modulatory effects on the Nrf2 pathway, providing a novel perspective on the potential mechanisms by which ICA prevents POF. Rolling bearings are essential parts for manufacturing machines. Vast quantities of features are often extracted from measured signals to comprehensively reflect the conditions of bearings, which may cause high dimensionality, information redundancy, and time consumption. In addition, it is extremely difficult, expensive, and time-consuming to collect samples with label information during the bearing fault diagnosis in real-world scenarios. In this study, a novel bearing defect diagnosis method for small sample size is proposed based on modified local joint sparse marginal embedding (MLJSME) and Wasserstein generative adversarial networks (WGANs). MLJSME can effectively extract intrinsic sparse discriminant features of high-dimensional dataset by preserving both global and local structures. Graph embedding and Gaussian kernel function are adopted to preserve the locality structure of dataset. The global structure and discriminate information are preserved by maximum margin criterion which can also avoid small sample-size problem. Moreover, joint sparsity is applied to preserve the sparse property and improve the robustness to noise and outliers. An abundance of artificial samples can be obtained with WGAN and a few labeled samples. Firstly, a high-dimensional feature dataset consisting of time-domain and frequency-domain features is extracted from original vibration signals, then MLJSME is utilized to extract sensitive low-dimensional features, and a small number of low-dimensional features are fed into WGAN to generate a large number of artificial samples that used to train the classifier, and the bearing fault types can be finally identified. This paper proposes a method that combines window functions with compressed sensing for the detection of ultra-high harmonics in the frequency range of 2–150 kHz. By analyzing the sparsity of the signal, the Bruckmann window function, which is most suitable for the compressed sensing reconstruction process and the characteristics of ultra-high harmonics, is selected. Simulations indicate that, compared to existing methods, the proposed algorithm based on the fusion of the Bruckmann window and compressed sensing achieves a sparser post-observation signal with reduced fluctuations. The robustness and anti-interference capabilities are enhanced, while the harmonic detection accuracy and signal reconstruction performance are significantly improved. The reconstruction error reaches 4.15 × 10−6, the mean squared error percentage (MSE) reaches 4.13 × 10−6, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is as high as 97.69 dB, marking an increase of 54.11%. This study provides a new theoretical and methodological approach for the analysis and processing of ultra-high harmonics caused by a high proportion of power electronic devices. Bifunctional phthalonitrile‐benzoxazine (PNBZ) usually suffers from slow‐curing characteristics. Recently, we unexpectedly observed a waste liquid containing PNBZ solution and excess ethylenediamine (EDA) had turned into a gel at room temperature. Since the report on the PNBZ gelling phenomenon below 150°C was rare, this accidental finding manifested the possible formation of PNBZ gel at low temperatures. By varying the EDA molar ratio, PNBZ gels with different microstructures were successfully realized at the low temperature of 50°C. Through the differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analyse (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared technique, the driving force behind the gel formation was found to be the low‐temperature copolymerization between the amino group of EDA and the BZ ring of PNBZ, resulting in the amine‐containing intermediate. PNBZ gel was thermally unstable, but was mechanically robust. The current method was also universal to realize polymer or composite gels for a class of slow‐curing PNBZ resin (i.e., allyl‐containing PNBZ gel and its carbon nanotube‐filled composite gel). This study not only expands our understanding of the low‐temperature polymerization behavior of PNBZ but also provides a versatile strategy for low‐temperature preparation of PNBZ‐based gels. Objectives: Duodenal adenocarcinoma (DAC) is a rare tumor that is often accompanied by liver metastasis in advanced stages. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between clinicopathological characteristics and survival in DAC patients with liver metastasis, and to explore appropriate treatment options. Methods: 482 DAC patients with liver metastasis were retrospectively identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database (2011– 2020). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to explore the clinicopathological factors related to survival. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to identify the independent risk factors associated with survival. Results: The 1-year overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) rates for the entire cohort were 25.4% and 28.3%, and the 5-year OS and CSS rates were 2.4% and 2.9% respectively. Univariable analysis and multivariate analysis identified chemotherapy and surgery as the independent risk factors for OS and CSS. Patients who underwent chemotherapy and surgery had better CSS and OS rates, whereas radiotherapy failed to improve outcomes. Conclusion: We identified several prognostic factors of DAC with liver metastasis. Chemotherapy and surgery can prolong the survival of DAC patients with liver metastasis, which lays the foundation for identifying the optimal treatment strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Annexin (ANN) is calcium (Ca2+)-dependent and phospholipid binding protein family, which is involved in plant growth and development and response to various stresses. However, little known about ANN genes were identified from crape myrtle, an ornamental horticultural plant widely cultivated in the world. Results: Here, 9 LiANN genes were identified from Lagerstroemia indica, and their characterizations and functions were investigated in L. indica for the first time. The LiANN genes were divided into 2 subfamilies. The gene structure, chromosomal location, and collinearity relationship were also explored. In addition, the GO annotation analysis of these LiANNs indicated that they are enriched in molecular functions, cellular components, and biological processes. Moreover, transcription factors (TFs) prediction analysis revealed that bHLH, MYB, NAC, and other TFs can interact with the LiANN promoters. Interestingly, the LiANN2/4/6–9 were demonstrated to play critical roles in the branching architecture of crape myrtle. Furthermore, the LiANN2/6/8/9 were differentially expressed under salt treatment, and a series of TFs regulating LiANN2/6/8/9 expression were predicted to play essential roles in salt resistance.
