Abstract Photon management strategies are crucial to improve the efficiency of perovskite thin film (PTF) solar cell. In this work, a nano-cone (NC) based 2D photonic nanostructure is designed and simulated aiming at achieve superior light trapping performance by introducing strong light scattering and interferences within perovskite active layer. Compared to the planar PTF solar cell, the NC nanostructured device with 45 degrees half apex angle obtains highest short-circuit current density, which improved over 20% from 15.00 mA/cm2 to 18.09 mA/cm2. This work offers an alternative design towards effective light trapping performance using 2D photonic nanostructure for PTF solar cell and could potentially be adopted as the nano-structuring strategy for the future perovskite solar cell industry.

Abstract Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) play an important role in various load-bearing applications. However, fabricating CMCs with both high toughness and stiffness, which are normally mutually exclusive properties, is challenging. Here, we develop an SiOC composite film reinforced with nanoscale tungsten-based particles with a structure and property gradient by integrating hybrid nanoparticle inkjet printing and selective laser sintering. Mechanical results of the resulting SiOC-WOx films exhibit a stiffness-toughness co-enhancement, including a 2-fold improvement in hardness and modulus, and a 3.8-fold better fracture toughness than the matrix material. Moreover, the films exhibit interfacial bonding strengths of up to 86.6 MPa and operate stably at 1050 °C. This performance is attributed to a gradient in the metal-to-ceramic composition and uniformly dispersed self-assembled nanoscale reinforcing particles. This nanoparticle laser sintering method could be used to prepare other materials with structure and property gradients.

PurposeTo establish various radiomics models based on conventional CT scan images and enhanced CT images, explore their value in the classification of pheochromocytoma (PHEO) and lipid-poor adrenal adenoma (LPA) and screen the most parsimonious and efficient modelMethodsThe clinical and imaging data of 332 patients (352 lesions) with PHEO or LPA confirmed by surgical pathology in the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University were retrospectively analyzed. The region of interest (ROI) on conventional and enhanced CT images was delineated using ITK-SNAP software. Different radiomics signatures were constructed from the radiomics features extracted from conventional and enhanced CT images, and a radiomics score (Rad score) was calculated. A clinical model was established using demographic features and CT findings, while radiomics nomograms were established using multiple logistic regression analysis.The predictive efficiency of different models was evaluated using the area under curve (AUC) and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The Delong test was used to evaluate whether there were statistical differences in predictive efficiency between different models.ResultsThe radiomics signature based on conventional CT images showed AUCs of 0.97 (training cohort, 95% CI: 0.95∼1.00) and 0.97 (validation cohort, 95% CI: 0.92∼1.00). The AUCs of the nomogram model based on conventional scan CT images and enhanced CT images in the training cohort and the validation cohort were 0.97 (95% CI: 0.95∼1.00) and 0.97 (95% CI: 0.94~1.00) and 0.98 (95% CI: 0.97∼1.00) and 0.97 (95% CI: 0.94∼1.00), respectively. The prediction efficiency of models based on enhanced CT images was slightly higher than that of models based on conventional CT images, but these differences were statistically insignificant(P>0.05).ConclusionsCT-based radiomics signatures and radiomics nomograms can be used to predict and identify PHEO and LPA. The model established based on conventional CT images has great identification and prediction efficiency, and it can also enable patients to avoid harm from radiation and contrast agents caused by the need for further enhancement scanning in traditional image examinations.

This paper introduces a new device concept and outlines the fabrication process of a bipolar junction transistor based on an IGZO/NiO/PbSe nanoband array heterostructure. We performed comprehensive electrical property testing and characterization analysis on the device to thoroughly assess the device's performance. The heterojunction structure efficiently amplifies the opto-electric responsivity and enhances the transmission efficiency of photogenerated carriers. Significantly, the phototransistor demonstrates a high photoresponsivity of 4000 A/W under an incident light power of 1 μW/cm2 and a wavelength of 850 nm. Hence, a solution detection system integrated with a bipolar phototransistor is designed. Through the analysis of the output signals, the system accurately determines the identity of the solute present in the solution.

The imperative for energy conservation and environmental protection has led to the development of innovative aircraft designs. This study explored a novel thrust control configuration for blended-wing-body (BWB) aircraft with distributed electric boundary-layer ingestion (BLI) propulsors, addressing the issues of sagging and altitude loss during landing. The research focused on a small-scale BWB demonstrator equipped with six BLI fans, each with a 90 mm diameter. Various thrust control configurations were evaluated to achieve significant thrust reduction while maintaining lift, including dual-layer sleeve, separate flap-type, single-stage linkage flap-type, and dual-stage linkage flap-type configurations. The separate flap-type configuration was tested through ground experiments. Control experiments were conducted under three different experimental conditions as follows: deflection of the upper cascades only, deflection of the lower cascades only, and symmetrical deflection of both cascades. For each condition, the deflection angles tested were 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°, and 60°. The thrust reductions observed for these three conditions were 0%, 37.5%, and 27.5% of the maximum thrust, respectively, without additional changes in the pitch moment. A combined thrust adjustment method maintaining a zero pitch moment demonstrated a linear thrust reduction to 20% of its initial value. The experiment concluded that the novel thrust control configuration effectively adjusted thrust without altering the BLI fans’ rotation speed, solving the coupled lift–thrust problem and enhancing BWB landing stability.

The first stereodivergent umpolung 1,5-conjugate addition reaction via synergistic Pd/Cu catalysts is reported. By dictating the absolute configuration of each chiral ligand ligated to corresponding metals, all four stereoisomers of the products are easily achieved. A series of amino acid moieties are introduced to the γ-position of the conjugated esters in high yields with excellent diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities. Rationale and objective: To investigate the MR characteristics of phlegmonous stage and abscess stage primary spinal epidural abscess. Materials and methods: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical and imaging characteristics of 27 cases of pathologically confirmed primary spinal epidural abscess. Predisposing conditions of all patients were collected. All patients underwent conventional magnetic resonance imaging, while fifteen patients also underwent post-contrast magnetic resonance imaging. Results: The initial symptoms included back pain in 25 patients, fever in 18, motor deficit in five, and sensory changes in 13. Underlying diseases included distant site of infection in seven, injection therapy in five, neoplasm in five, chronic inflammatory disease in five, diabetes mellitus in four, alcoholism in three, metabolic disorder in three, hepatopathy in three, and obesity in two. Abscess location was ventral epidural space in 15 patients (55.6%) and dorsal epidural space in 12 (44.4%). On T1-weighted image, the abscess was hypointense to the spinal cord in 23 patients (85%) and isointense in four (15%). All abscesses were hyperintense to the spinal cord on T2-weighted image. Among the 15 patients who underwent contrast-enhanced imaging, ring enhancement was present in 13 and homogeneous enhancement in two. Adjacent vertebrae body edema was present in four patients. The abscess was purely intraspinal in 25 patients (92.6%). Paraspinal extension was present in two (7.4%). Conclusion: Primary spinal epidural abscess patients have one or more predisposing conditions. Phlegmonous stage primary spinal epidural abscess appears isointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2WI and enhancement is homogeneous. Abscess stage primary spinal epidural abscess hyperintense on T2WI and hypointense on T1WI and ring enhancement. Purpose: Radiation cystitis (RC) is a complex and common complication after radiotherapy for pelvic cancer. Icariside II (ICAII) is a flavonoid compound extracted from Epimedium, a traditional Chinese medicine, with various pharmacological activities. The aim of the present study was to investigate the cysto-protective effects of ICAII in RC rats and its possible mechanisms. Materials and Methods: A rat model of induced radiation cystitis using pelvic X-ray irradiation was used, and bladder function was assessed by bladder volume and bladder leakage point pressure (LPP) after ICAII treatment. HE and Masson stains were used to assess the histopathological changes in the bladder. IL-6, TNF-α, IL-10, IL-4 and IL-1β were measured by ELISA to assess the level of inflammation. The gene-level changes in ICAII-treated RC were observed by transcriptome sequencing, and then the potential targets of action and biological mechanisms were explored by PPI, GO and KEGG enrichment analysis of the differentially expressed genes. Finally, the predicted targets of action were experimentally validated using immunohistochemistry, RT–qPCR, molecular docking and CETSA. Results: ICAII significantly increased bladder volume and the LPP, ameliorated pathological damage to bladder tissues, decreased the levels of IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β, and increased the levels of IL-10 and IL-4 in radiation-injured rats. A total of 90 differentially expressed genes were obtained by transcriptome sequencing, and PPI analysis identified H3F3C, ISG15, SPP1, and LCN2 as possible potential targets of action. GO and KEGG analyses revealed that these differentially expressed genes were mainly enriched in the pathways metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450, arachidonic acid metabolism, Staphylococcus aureus infection and chemical carcinogenesis - reactive oxygen species. Experimental validation showed that ICAII could significantly increase the expression of H3F3C and ISG15 and inhibit the expression of SPP1 and LCN2. ICAII binds well to H3F3C, ISG15, SPP1 and LCN2, with the best binding ability to H3F3C. Furthermore, ICAII inhibited the protein degradation of H3F3C in bladder epithelial cells. Conclusions: ICAII may alleviate the bladder inflammatory response and inhibit the fibrosis process of bladder tissues through the regulation of H3F3C, ISG15, SPP1, and LCN2 targets and has a protective effect on the bladder of radioinjured rats. An unprecedented 1,5‐addition/N‐1,4‐addition cascade reaction is established via palladium hydride catalysis. A variety of polysubstituted dihydropyrrole skeletons are constructed in high yield and with exclusively >20 : 1 diastereoselectivity. Our previous clinical metabolomics study illustrated that energy metabolism disorder is an underlying pathogenesis mechanism for the development of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Supplementation of nicotinamide (NAM), the precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), may restore the energy metabolism homeostasis of ALD and thus serves as potential therapeutics to treat ALD. In this bedside‐to‐bench study, the protective effect of NAM against ALD was investigated by using the NIAAA mice model (chronic‐plus‐binge ethanol), and the liver regeneration boosting capability of NAM was evaluated by the partial hepatectomy mice model. Our results showed that NAM supplements not only protected the liver from alcohol‐induced injury and improved alcohol‐induced mitochondrial structure and function change, but also boosted liver regeneration in postpartial hepatectomy mice by increasing liver NAD+ content. These findings suggested that NAM, a water‐soluble form of vitamin B3, can promote liver regeneration and improves liver function by alleviating alcohol‐induced energy metabolism disorder. The armadillo repeats (Armadillo repeats) are widely distributed in higher plants and are involved in a variety of cellular processes such as signal transduction, nuclear transport, and the response to various biotic/abiotic stresses. In this study, 54 potato ARM gene family members (StARMs) were identified at the genome-wide level of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), and they were unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes. Based on their protein structure and phylogenetic characteristics, 54 StARMs were divided into three subfamilies. Segmental duplication events play a major role in the expansion of potato StARM gene family. Collinearity analysis showed that there were 51, 17, 25, 6, and 10 orthologous gene pairs between StARMs and tomato, Arabidopsis, cabbage, rice, and maize, respectively, which evolved under purification selection. RNA-seq data analysis showed that four StARMs genes were specifically expressed in the stolon, two StARMs were specifically expressed in the root and carpel, and one StARM gene was specifically expressed in the tuber. Some StARM genes were involved in potato response to biotic/abiotic stresses. In addition, we performed RNA-seq on three different colored potato tuber tissues (skin and flesh) and analyzed the relative expression pattern of 54 StARMs genes in different colored potato tuber tissues and the StARMs in potato flesh in three different colored potatoes by qPCR. Four candidate genes that may be involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis in potato tubers were screened. This study provides a theoretical basis for further understanding the characteristics of the StARM gene family and further analyzing the function of the StARM gene in potato resistance to biotic/abiotic stresses and regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis in tubers. Wuhan, a highly urbanized and rapidly growing region within China's Yangtze Economic Zone, has historically been identified as a gap area for the critically endangered Yangtze finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis asiaeorientalis) based on daytime visual surveys. However, there has been a noticeable increase in porpoise sightings since 2020. This study employed passive acoustic monitoring to investigate porpoise distribution in Wuhan between 2020 and 2022. Generalized linear models were used to explore the relationship between shipping, hydrological patterns, light intensity, and porpoise biosonar activity. Over 603 days of effective monitoring, the daily positive rate for porpoise biosonar detection reached 43%, with feeding‐related buzz signals accounting for 55% of all porpoise biosonar signals. However, the proportion of minutes during which porpoise presence was detected was 0.18%, suggesting that while porpoises may frequent the area, their visits were brief and mainly focused on feeding. A significant temporal trend emerged, showing higher porpoise biosonar detection during winter (especially in February) and 2022. Additionally, periods without boat traffic correlated with increased porpoise activity. Hydrological conditions and light levels exhibited significant negative correlations with porpoise activity. Specifically, porpoise sonar detections were notably higher during the night, twilight, and new moon phases. It is highly conceivable that both fishing bans and COVID‐19 pandemic‐related lockdowns contributed to the heightened presence of porpoises in Wuhan. The rapid development of municipal transportation and shipping in Wuhan and resulting underwater noise pollution have emerged as a significant threat to the local porpoise population. Accordingly, it is imperative for regulatory bodies to effectively address this environmental stressor and formulate targeted protection measures to ensure the conservation of the finless porpoise. Sporadic or late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) accounts for more than 95% of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases without any family history. Although genome-wide association studies have identified associated risk genes and loci for LOAD, numerous studies suggest that many adverse environmental factors, such as social isolation, are associated with an increased risk of dementia. However, the underlying mechanisms of social isolation in AD progression remain elusive. In the current study, we found that 7 days of social isolation could trigger pattern separation impairments and presynaptic abnormalities of the mossy fibre-CA3 circuit in AD mice. We also revealed that social isolation disrupted histone acetylation and resulted in the downregulation of 2 dentate gyrus (DG)-enriched miRNAs, which simultaneously target reticulon 3 (RTN3), an endoplasmic reticulum protein that aggregates in presynaptic regions to disturb the formation of functional mossy fibre boutons (MFBs) by recruiting multiple mitochondrial and vesicle-related proteins. Interestingly, the aggregation of RTN3 also recruits the PP2A B subunits to suppress PP2A activity and induce tau hyperphosphorylation, which, in turn, further elevates RTN3 and forms a vicious cycle. Finally, using an artificial intelligence-assisted molecular docking approach, we determined that senktide, a selective agonist of neurokinin3 receptors (NK3R), could reduce the binding of RTN3 with its partners. Moreover, application of senktide in vivo effectively restored DG circuit disorders in socially isolated AD mice. Taken together, our findings not only demonstrate the epigenetic regulatory mechanism underlying mossy fibre synaptic disorders orchestrated by social isolation and tau pathology but also reveal a novel potential therapeutic strategy for AD. Objective: To perform a meta-analysis comparing the MRI features of tuberculous and pyogenic spondylitis, using histopathological results and/or blood culture as the standard reference. Materials and methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched for English-language studies on the MRI features of tuberculous and pyogenic spondylitis published between January 2010 and February 2023. Risk for bias and concerns regarding applicability were assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool. Pooled MRI features' proportions were calculated using a bivariate random-effects model. Results: Thirty-two studies met the inclusion criteria: 21 for tuberculous spondylitis, three for pyogenic spondylitis, and eight for both. Of the nine informative MRI features comparing tuberculous spondylitis to pyogenic spondylitis, involvement of ≥ 2 vertebral bodies (92% vs. 88%, P =.004), epidural extension (77% vs. 25%, P <.001), paravertebral collection (91% vs. 84%, P <.001), subligamentous spread (93% vs. 24%, P <.001), thin and regular abscess wall (94% vs. 18%, P <.001), vertebral collapse (68% vs. 24%, P <.001), and kyphosis (39% vs. 3%, P <.01) were more suggestive of tuberculous spondylitis, while disc signal change (82% vs. 95%, P <.001) and disc height loss (22% vs. 59%, P <.001) were more suggestive of pyogenic spondylitis. Conclusion: Involvement of ≥ 2 vertebral vertebral bodies, soft tissue attribution, thin and regular abscess wall, vertebral collapse, and kyphosis were MRI features more common in tuberculous spondylitis, while disc signal change and height loss were more common in pyogenic spondylitis.
