● Development of a novel multi-indicator partition optimization method of nitrogen nutrient management.● Calculation of multi-indicator environmental thresholds for ammonia volatilization, nitrogen surplus and soil carrying capacity in various regions within the basin.● Recommendation of various regional spatial optimization methods to enhance nutrient management in crop–livestock systems.Although China has achieved great advancements toward national food security, the country is still confronted with a range of challenges, including natural resource stress, imbalanced diets and environmental pollution. Optimized management of crop–livestock systems is the key measure to realize agricultural green transformation. However, optimized management of crop–livestock systems that use multi-objective zoning is lacking. This study employed a multi-objective zoning management approach to comprehensively analyze four indicators: ammonia volatilization, nitrogen surplus, soil carrying capacity and ecological red line area. With its significant ecological integrity and a strong emphasis on sustainability, the Baiyangdian Basin serves as a unique and suitable test case for conducting analyses on multi-objective nutrient optimization management, with the aim to facilitate the agricultural green transformation. This study finds that less than 8% of the area in the Baiyangdian Basin meet the acceptable environmental indicator standard, whereas around 50% of the area that had both nitrogen surplus and ammonia volatilization exceeded the threshold. Implementation of unified management, that is, the same management technique across the study areas, could result in an increase of areas meeting environmental indicator thresholds to 21.1%. This project developed a novel multi-indicator partition optimization method, in which distinct measures are tailored for different areas to satisfy multiple environmental indicators. Implementation of this method, could potentially bring more than 50% area below the threshold, and areas with ammonia emissions and nitrogen surplus could be reduced to 15.8%. The multi-indicators partition optimization method represents a more advanced and efficiency-oriented management approach when compared to unified management. This approach could be regarded as the best available option to help China achieve agricultural transformation to improve efficient production and reduce environmental pollution. It is recommended that current policies aimed at nutrient management toward sustainable agricultural development should shift toward the application of multi-indicators partition optimization.

● Relationships between agricultural green development (AGD) and 10 UN SDGs are presented.● Historical changes and characteristics of AGD in China are analyzed.● Knowledge gaps in AGD indicators in China are identified.While agricultural green development (AGD) is highly recognized and has become a national strategy in China, it is imperative to bridge the knowledge gaps between AGD and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to evaluate the contribution of AGD to meeting the SDGs. The first aim of this study was to compare the AGD goals and indicators with those of the SDGs so as to identify their relationship. The next aim was to examine the historical evolution of AGD indicators and analyze the gaps between the current status of various indicators and their benchmarks. Limiting factors were identified in China’s transition toward AGD. These findings reveal that the indicators of AGD align with those of the SDGs, but have greater specificity to the context in China and are more quantifiable. There has been a significant increase per capita calorie and protein intakes in China, as well as a notable rise in agricultural output per unit of arable land and rural incomes from 1980 to the 2010s. However, these achievements have been accompanied by a high resource use and environmental pollution, highlighting the need for a more sustainable, environmentally responsible agriculture in China.

Ni-based coordination compounds, during the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), self-reconstruct to produce NiOOH, which are the real active sites. Thus, encouraging the self-reconstruction of pre-catalysts to generate more NiOOH species has emerged as an effective strategy for enhancing the activity. In this research, we utilized three coordination compounds, Ni(N(CN)2)2, Ni(NCN), and Ni(HNCN)2, to examine the effect of three distinct ligands (–N(CN)2–, –HNCN–, and –NCN–) on the local electronic structure of coordinated Ni, aiming to promote the degree of self-reconstruction during the OER. XPS studies and in situ Raman spectroscopy revealed a significant relationship between the electron-donating properties of coordinated Ni and the self-reconstruction abilities of the pre-catalysts. Notably, Ni coordinated with –N(CN)2– exhibits a high tendency to donate electrons, leading to facile reconstruction of Ni(N(CN)2)2 into Ni(OOH)–(N(CN)2). As a result, Ni(OOH)–(N(CN)2) displays high OER activity (264 mV @ 10 mA cm−2 and Tafel slope of 40.80 mV dec−1) in comparison to Ni(OOH)–(NCN) (290 mV @ 10 mA cm−2 and Tafel slope of 55.63 mV dec−1) and Ni(OOH)–(HNCN) (307 mV @ 10 mA cm−2 and Tafel slope of 77.70 mV dec−1). Developing high‐performance aviation fuel is highly desired for the rapid development of supersonic aircraft. Herein, selective deep hydrogenation of polycyclic aromatics to a high‐density fuel is developed over a Ru‐based catalyst. The influences of strong Ru‐support interaction on tailoring the reaction pathways of acenaphthene hydrogenation were investigated using different oxide supports (SiO2, CeO2, TiO2). Ru/CeO2 and Ru/TiO2 with strong SMSI possess abundant electron‐deficient Ruδ+ species which exhibit a good ability to promote H2 dissociation and increase the isomerization rate of saturated aromatic compounds. Due to the enhanced adsorption of aromatic molecules, Ru/CeO2 (1.30 μmol min−1 g−1) exhibits superior catalytic activity in comparison to Ru/TiO2 (1.25 μmol min−1 g−1) during acenaphthene hydrosaturation, while Ru/TiO2 exhibits the highest isomerization reaction rate (7.60×10−2 μmol min−1 g−1) because of its excellent hydrogen spillover ability and high content of Ruδ+ species. The best catalytic activity with 96 % selectivity of ccc‐perhydroacenaphthene was achieved on Ru/TiO2, and an isomerization mechanism of perhydroacenaphthene isomers was proposed. Solar‐driven conversion of renewable biomass resources into high‐density hydrocarbon fuels can effectively realize biomass valorization and renewable energy conversion. In this work, an efficient self‐sensitized [2 + 2] photocycloaddition process is explored to develop highly strained fuel with high yield using norbornene and biomass‐derived cyclohexenone as feedstocks. The enhancement mechanism is revealed by phosphorescent measurement and theoretical calculation, and a reasonable reaction path for self‐sensitized [2 + 2] co‐cycloaddition is proposed. When using methanol as solvent, the apparent activation energy of co‐cycloaddition is 21.37 W/mol, which is lower than that of self‐cycloaddition (31.57 W/mol). Importantly, the jet‐fuel‐range highly strained fuel has high density (0.986 g/cm3) and high volumetric net heat of combustion (41.14 MJ/L), which are 5.34% and 4.39% higher than those of JP‐10, respectively. The replacement of the oxygen evolution reaction with a higher valuable oxidation process can overcome the sluggish kinetics to promote renewable hydrogen production, simultaneously achieving energy storage and environmental protection. However, the effective integration of two redox half-reactions in one photocatalytic reaction system is still a challenge. Here the p-diethynylbenzene and dibenzothiophene sulfone copolymer (PEB-DBT) is well-designed to couple with α-Fe2O3via a palladium-catalyzed Sonogashira cross-linking reaction, forming a heterojunction with strong interfacial interaction. In particular, there is a different preferred charge transfer path of PEB-DBT/α-Fe2O3via modulating the work function difference in various solutions. The results suggest that the Z-scheme electron transfer pathway is predominant in triethanolamine (TEOA) and ofloxacin (OFL) solutions, instead of the type-II heterojunction that forms in H2O or methylene blue (MB). The Z-scheme PEB-DBT/α-Fe2O3 heterojunction has excellent performance in the hydrogen evolution half-reaction and OFL degradation, which is about 2.7 times and 3.3 times higher than that of pure PEB-DBT, respectively. Finally, it successfully achieved simultaneous photocatalytic H2 evolution and OFL degradation under visible light. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lignin is the main component of lignocellulose and the largest source of aromatic substances on the earth. Biofuel and bio‐chemicals derived from lignin can reduce the use of petroleum products. Current advances in lignin catalysis conversion have facilitated many of progress, but understanding the principles of catalyst design is critical to moving the field forward. In this review, the factors affecting the catalysts (including the type of active metal, metal particle size, acidity, pore size, the nature of the oxide supports, and the synergistic effect of the metals) are systematically reviewed based on the three most commonly used supports (carbon, oxides, and zeolites) in lignin hydrogenolysis. The catalytic performance (selectivity and yield of products) is evaluated, and the emerging catalytic mechanisms are introduced to better understand the catalyst design guidelines. Finally, based on the progress of existing studies, future directions for catalyst design in the field of lignin depolymerization are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
