Near-infrared (NIR) glass-converted light-emitting diodes (gc-LEDs) are newly emergent broadband light sources for miniaturizing optical systems like spectrometers. While lots of effort has been spent on materials doped with rare-earth and transition-metal ions, the achievement of these materials with broadband NIR emission and desired wavelength region remains a long-standing challenge, especially operating in the spectral region between 700 and 1100 nm. Herein, a broadband NIR LEDs based on Te cluster-doped silicate glass is developed. Through adjustment of melting atmosphere and network topology of the glass matrix, active NIR Te cluster centers can be generated and stabilized in silicate glass and show a broad emission at 980 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 300 nm under blue light excitation. The photoluminescence of the glass matches well with the absorption of several primary chemical bonds in food and biological tissue. In demonstration experiments, the NIR absorption of different biological tissue by NIR light from our glass is measured, suggesting that the super-broad NIR luminescence of Te-doped silicate glass has potential applications as light sources for nondestructive analysis. The non-scanning radiometer with short-wavelength (SW: 0.2–5.0 μm) and total-wavelength (TW: 0.2–50.0 μm) channels is the primary payload of the Integrated Earth–Moon Radiation Observation System (IEMROS), which is designed to provide comprehensive Earth radiation measurements and lunar calibrations at the L1 Lagrange point of the Earth–Moon system from a global perspective. This manuscript introduces a radiometer preflight calibration methodology, which involves background removal and is validated using accurate and traceable reference sources. Simulated Earth view tests are performed to evaluate repeatability, linearity, and gain coefficients over the operating range. Both channels demonstrate repeatability uncertainties better than 0.34%, indicating consistent and reliable measuring performance. Comparative polynomial regression analysis confirms significant linear response characteristics with two-channel nonlinearity less than 0.20%. Gain coefficients are efficiently determined using a two-point calibration approach. Uncertainty analysis reveals an absolute radiometric calibration accuracy of 0.97% for the SW channel and 0.92% for the TW channel, underscoring the non-scanning radiometer's capability to provide dependable global Earth radiation budget data crucial to environmental and climate studies. Background: This study compared the cost-effectiveness of open (ODP), laparoscopic (LDP), and robotic (RDP) distal pancreatectomy (DP). Methods: Studies reporting the costs of DP were included in a literature search until August 2023. Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted, and surface under cumulative ranking area (SUCRA) values, mean difference (MD), odds ratio (OR), and 95% credible intervals (CrIs) were calculated for outcomes of interest. Cluster analysis was performed to examine the similarity and classification of DP approaches into homogeneous clusters. A decision model-based cost–utility analysis was conducted for the cost-effectiveness analysis of DP strategies. Results: Twenty-six studies with 29,164 patients were included in the analysis. Among the three groups, LDP had the lowest overall costs, while ODP had the highest overall costs (LDP vs. ODP: MD − 3521.36, 95% CrI − 6172.91 to − 1228.59). RDP had the highest procedural costs (ODP vs. RDP: MD − 4311.15, 95% CrI − 6005.40 to − 2599.16; LDP vs. RDP: MD − 3772.25, 95% CrI − 4989.50 to − 2535.16), but incurred the lowest hospitalization costs. Both LDP (MD − 3663.82, 95% CrI − 6906.52 to − 747.69) and RDP (MD − 6678.42, 95% CrI − 11,434.30 to − 2972.89) had significantly reduced hospitalization costs compared to ODP. LDP and RDP demonstrated a superior profile regarding costs–morbidity, costs–mortality, costs–efficacy, and costs–utility compared to ODP. Compared to ODP, LDP and RDP cost $3110 and $817 less per patient, resulting in 0.03 and 0.05 additional quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), respectively, with positive incremental net monetary benefit (NMB). RDP costs $2293 more than LDP with a negative incremental NMB but generates 0.02 additional QALYs with improved postoperative morbidity and spleen preservation. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis suggests that LDP and RDP are more cost-effective options compared to ODP at various willingness-to-pay thresholds. Purpose: This study evaluated the accuracy of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) calculator in predicting outcomes after hepatectomy for colorectal cancer (CRC) liver metastasis in a Southeast Asian population. Methods: Predicted and actual outcomes were compared for 166 patients undergoing hepatectomy for CRC liver metastasis identified between 2017 and 2022, using receiver operating characteristic curves with area under the curve (AUC) and Brier score. Results: The ACS-NSQIP calculator accurately predicted most postoperative complications (AUC > 0.70), except for surgical site infection (AUC = 0.678, Brier score = 0.045). It also exhibited satisfactory performance for readmission (AUC = 0.818, Brier score = 0.011), reoperation (AUC = 0.945, Brier score = 0.002), and length of stay (LOS, AUC = 0.909). The predicted LOS was close to the actual LOS (5.9 vs. 5.0 days, P = 0.985). Conclusion: The ACS-NSQIP calculator demonstrated generally accurate predictions for 30-day postoperative outcomes after hepatectomy for CRC liver metastasis in our patient population. With the surge in astronomical data volume, modern astronomical research faces significant challenges in data storage, processing, and access. The I/O bottleneck issue in astronomical data processing is particularly prominent, limiting the efficiency of data processing. To address this issue, this paper proposes a tiered storage algorithm based on the access characteristics of astronomical data. The C4.5 decision tree algorithm is employed as the foundation to implement an astronomical data access correlation algorithm. Additionally, a data copy migration strategy is designed based on tiered storage technology to achieve efficient data access. Preprocessing tests were conducted on 418GB NSRT (Nanshan Radio Telescope) formaldehyde spectral line data, showcasing that tiered storage can potentially reduce data processing time by up to 38.15%. Similarly, utilizing 802.2 GB data from FAST (Five- hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope) observations for pulsar search data processing tests, the tiered storage approach demonstrated a maximum reduction of 29.00% in data processing time. In concurrent testing of data processing workflows, the proposed astronomical data heat correlation algorithm in this paper achieved an average reduction of 17.78% in data processing time compared to centralized storage. Furthermore, in comparison to traditional heat algorithms, it reduced data processing time by 5.15%. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is positively correlated with the associativity between the algorithm and the processed data. The tiered storage algorithm based on the characteristics of astronomical data proposed in this paper is poised to provide algorithmic references for large-scale data processing in the field of astronomy in the future. Background: Multimorbidity, body pain, sleep disturbance, and depression are major clinical and public health challenges. This paper aimed to examine the associations of multimorbidity with body pain, sleep duration, and depression; and whether the associations varied by socioeconomic status. Methods: Data was derived from four waves of the nationally representative China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including participants aged 45 years and older in 2011. 12 physical non-communicable diseases and 1 mental chronic disease were used to measure multimorbidity. Educational attainment and annual per-capita household consumption expenditure were employed as proxies for socioeconomic status. Results: Of the 16,931 participants aged 45 + years old, the proportion of people with multimorbidity was 37.87% at baseline. The number of multimorbidity increased with older age and higher socioeconomic status. Multimorbidity was associated with more body pain (incidence rate ratio (IRR) = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.45–1.61), and decreased sleep duration (β = -0.26, 95% CI = -0.36–-0.15). Furthermore, multimorbidity was associated with increased depression risks (odds ratio (OR) = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.44–1.64, adjusted for sociodemographic variables), with the mediating effects of the number of body pain and sleep duration. The associations between multimorbidity and depression persisted among different socioeconomic groups. Conclusions: Multimorbidity was associated with increased body pain, decreased sleep duration, and further led to increased depression risks. Broadband near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy based on glass-converted light-emitting diodes (gc-LEDs) has been of great interest to multifunctional applications ranging from night vision to chemical industry, stimulating the demand for exploring broadband NIR gc-LEDs with sufficient efficiency stability and aging resistance. Herein, an all-inorganic broadband NIR LEDs based on Te cluster-doped germanate glass is developed. Via adjustment of melting atmosphere and network topology of the glass matrix, active NIR Te cluster centers can be generated and stabilized in germanate glass and show a broad emission at 770 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 260 nm under blue light excitation. By combining the Te-doped glass with a commercial blue LED chip, a high-performance NIR gc-LEDs is fabricated with an NIR output power of 14.21 mW@10.1% under a driving current of 400 mA. Particularly, the fabricated NIR-LED device exhibits high efficient stability with a relatively low-efficiency drop of 0.0023 %mA−1, and excellent aging resistance while retaining an electroluminescence intensity up 90 % of their initial value after aging for 480 h under harsh conditions, which is comparable to the commercial phosphors. Chirality, with its intrinsic symmetry‐breaking feature, is frequently utilized in the creation of acentric crystalline functional materials that exhibit intriguing optoelectronic properties. On the other hand, the development of chiral crystals from achiral molecules offers a solution that bypasses the need for enantiopure motifs, presenting a promising alternative and thereby expanding the possibilities of the self‐assembly toolkit. Nevertheless, the rational design of achiral molecules that prefer spontaneous symmetry breaking during crystallization has so far been obscure. In this study, we present a series of six achiral molecules, demonstrating that when these conformationally flexible molecules adopt a cis‐conformation and engage in multiple non‐covalent interactions along a helical path, they collectively self‐assemble into chiral superstructures consisting of single‐handed supramolecular columns. When these homochiral supramolecular columns align in parallel, they form polar crystals that exhibit intense luminescence upon grinding or scraping. We therefore demonstrate our molecular design strategy could significantly increase the likelihood of symmetry breaking in achiral molecular synthons during self‐assembly, offering a facile access to novel chiral crystalline materials with unique optoelectronic properties. Preventive maintenance (PM) is commonly adopted in practice to improve a system's health condition and reduce the risk of unexpected failures. When a PM action is poorly performed, however, it is likely to have adverse effects on system reliability. We observe this phenomenon when evaluating the effectiveness of a PM program for a fleet of service vehicles based on their four-year operating data. This phenomenon is also commonly reported in the maintenance of vehicles and aircraft. Motivated by this observation, we propose a statistical model for repairable systems by taking potential PM adverse effects into account. In the formulation, the baseline failure process without PM effects is modeled by a nonhomogeneous Poisson process. When a PM action is performed, its effect on the failure process is modeled as a multiplicative random effect on the system rate of occurrence of failures. Statistical inference under the proposed model is discussed, and we further develop goodness-of-fit test procedures to validate the adequacy of this model. This research investigates the impact of deuteration on the operational lifetime of blue organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). Our study focuses on the kinetic isotope effect (KIE) and how it enhances device lifetime. Specifically, we examine the effects of deuteration on OLEDs with emitters based on common polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by deuterating anthracene‐based host materials. Our findings show that the deuterated analogues with incremental deuterium substitutions exhibit similar electroluminescence (EL) performances but progressively prolonged device lifetimes as a function of deuteration, indicating a cumulative enhancement effect. We observed a twofold increase in device lifetime with partial deuterium substitutions, while highly deuterated hosts realized up to a fourfold improvement. Furthermore, we found that device degradation is initiated from the interface of the hole transport layer (HTL) and emitting layer (ETL), and deuteration can mitigate the degraded reactions in the devices, thereby improving operational stability. These results provide insight into how deuteration can increase the operational lifetime of OLEDs, which has important implications for developing more efficient and durable OLED materials. Background: Oral health is a major global public health problem, but its risk factors have not been fully identified. The limited evidence suggests that AL may affect oral health conditions, but most of these studies focus only on middle‐aged western populations. Objectives: To examine whether allostatic load is associated with oral health conditions later in life among middle‐aged and older adults in China and there there is a correlation in both middle‐aged and older people. Materials and methods: Data were collected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study 2011–2018 (N = 10 890) and were analysed using logistic regressions for the overall sample and subsamples by age. Results: Results showed that higher inflammation load significantly increased the odds of edentulism (OR = 1.358, 95% CI = 1.020–1.809, p <.05). Higher metabolic load significantly increased the odds of denture use (OR = 1.375, 95% CI = 1.154–1.640, p < 0.001) and difficulty in chewing solid foods (OR = 1.100, 95% CI = 1.035–1.169, p <.01). These associations were manifested in older adults over 60 years of age, while in the middle‐aged subsample, the associations were not significant. Conclusion: The findings suggested that higher allostatic load was associated with poorer oral health conditions later in life. It is critical to lower allostatic load and improve oral health conditions, especially for older adults over 60 years of age. A sensitive and specific multiplex microfluidic-LAMP (MMLAMP) method was developed for rapid detection of VP in shrimp, targeting two hemolysin genes (tlh and trh) and a VP regulatory factor (toxR) of VP, using a combination of centrifugal microfluidic chips and LAMP. Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VP) is an essential foodborne bacterium who can cause gastroenteritis. However, current detection methods generally still have the difficulty for quickly screening VP strains and accurately detecting VP. In this work, a sensitive and specific multiplex microfluidic-LAMP (MMLAMP) method was constructed to rapidly detect VP using a centrifugal microfluidic chip combined with LAMP. The system enables simultaneous detection of two hemolysin genes (tlh and trh) and one VP regulatory factor (toxR) in a single chip improving the accuracy for detecting VP. The MMLAMP system detected 2.42 × 104 copies/μL of the plasmid (tlh -pUC57), 4.44 × 103 copies/μL of the plasmid (trh -pUC57) and 4.86 × 104 copies/μL of the plasmid (toxR -pUC57) in less than 35 min, respectively. Meanwhile, MMLAMP system was successfully applied for VP detection in artificially contaminated samples, the LOD is 220 CFU/g, which is 10 times lower than that of qPCR within the same detection time. The system also demonstrated 100 % specificity and good precision (C.V. < 5 %) in detecting the three targets of the VP, providing a new approach for point-of-care testing (POCT) of VP. • Percutaneous intervention is important in tumor-related diagnosis and therapy. • Using bevel-tipped flexible needle can generate curved trajectories to avoid obstacles and important organs. • A model was proposed for describing the bending of the needle. Percutaneous insertion is one of the most common minimally invasive procedures. Compared with traditional straight rigid needles, bevel-tipped flexible needle can generate curved trajectories to avoid obstacles and sensitive organs. However, the nonlinear large deflection problem challenges the bending prediction of the needle, which dramatically influences the surgical success rate. This paper analyzed the mechanism of needle-tissue interaction, and established a mechanics-based model of the needle bending during an insertion. And then, a discretization of the bending model was adopted to accurately predict the large bending of the needle in soft tissue. Insertion experiments were conducted to validate the bending prediction model. The results showed that the large needle bending was predicted with the mean/RMSE/maximumu error of 0.42 mm / 0.26 mm / 1.08 mm, which was clinically acceptable. Paenibacillus polymyxa (P. polymyxa) is a member of the genus Paenibacillus , which is a rod-shaped, spore-forming gram-positive bacterium. P. polymyxa is a source of many metabolically active substances, including polypeptides, volatile organic compounds, phytohormone, hydrolytic enzymes, exopolysaccharide (EPS), etc. Due to the wide range of compounds that it produces, P. polymyxa has been extensively studied as a plant growth promoting bacterium which provides a direct benefit to plants through the improvement of N fixation from the atmosphere and enhancement of the solubilization of phosphorus and the uptake of iron in the soil, and phytohormones production. Among the metabolites from P. polymyxa , EPS exhibits many activities, for example, antioxidant, immunomodulating, anti-tumor and many others. EPS has various applications in food, agriculture, environmental protection. Particularly, in the field of sustainable agriculture, P. polymyxa EPS can be served as a biofilm to colonize microbes, and also can act as a nutrient sink on the roots of plants in the rhizosphere. Therefore, this paper would provide a comprehensive review of the advancements of diverse aspects of EPS from P. polymyxa, including the production, extraction, structure, biosynthesis, bioactivity and applications, etc. It would provide a direction for future research on P. polymyxa EPS. The particle damper (PD) filled with granular material exhibits hysteretic behavior under dynamic excitation, meaning that its response depends not only on the current excitation but also on its excitation history. The hysteresis loops of a PD vary with the excitation frequency due to its nonlinear nature. To model the particle damping hysteresis, this study proposes using neural networks (NN), which have a powerful ability to recognize such nonlinear relationships. However, NNs suffer from a long-standing issue called spectra bias, which means they tend to learn low-frequency components first and struggle to recognize high-frequency components. This is a problem for modeling PDs, which may involve high-frequency features in the target function. To address this issue, the recently developed theory of neural tangent kernel (NTK) revealed why NNs are perplexed by the spectra bias. Based on this theory, Fourier features embedding is proposed to expedite the learning of NNs on high-frequency features to extricate NNs from the shackle of spectra bias. After implementing the Fourier features embedding, an investigation on the use of transfer learning (TL), incorporated with the physics-informed neural network (PINN), is conducted to improve the proposed model's performance. The concatenation of Fourier features embedding and TL formulates the proposed method, the Fourier features-embedded, transfer learning-incorporated physics-informed neural network (ff -TLPINN). The established surrogate model of the PD's hysteretic response force under steady-state excitation covers a wide frequency range of 100–2000 Hz. The proposed model is validated using a dataset generated from the sweep-sinusoidal excitation and is shown to be more effective than a plain NN model. The study's findings demonstrate the potential of using NNs to model the hysteresis of PDs and the effectiveness of using Fourier features embedding and TL to overcome the issue of spectra bias and improve the model's performance. Underwater superoleophobic (UWSO) materials have garnered significant attention in separating oil/water mixtures. But, the majority of these materials are made from non-degradable and non-renewable raw materials, polluting the environment and wasting scarce resources while using them. Against this backdrop, this study aimed to fabricate an environmental-friendly UWSO textile using biobased materials. To achieve this, hydrogel consisting of chitosan (CS) and poly(tannic acid) (PTA) were formed and coated on cotton fabric (CTF) via dip-coating followed by oxidative polymerization. CS&PTA hydrogel endowed the CTF with a rough surface and high surface energy, leading to an UWSO CTF with an underwater oil contact angle as high as 166.84°. The CS&PTA/CTF had excellent separation capability toward various oil/water mixtures, showing separation efficiency above 99.84 % and water flux higher than 23, 999 L m−2 h−1. Moreover, CS&PTA/CTF possessed excellent mechanical and environmental stability with underwater superoleophobicity unchanged after sandpaper friction, ultrasonication, organic solvents, NaCl (m/v, 30 %) solution, and acid/base solution immersion, due to the strong interaction between the hydrogel and cotton fabric generated by the mussel-inspired adhesion owing to the presence of PTA. Few studies have examined young people’s attitudes toward death escape acceptance and its relationship to mindfulness. This study addressed this issue and examined the mediating role of emotion regulation. In Study 1, 61 undergraduate students aged 19–22 years participated in a mindfulness intervention program, and the results showed that increasing young people’s levels of mindfulness could improve their attitudes toward death escape acceptance. The Study 2, which recruited 440 young people aged 18–26 years to complete a cross-sectional survey, replicated the main effect and showed that young people’s difficulty in emotion regulation fully mediated the coping effect of mindfulness. These findings suggest that individuals with high levels of mindfulness may have low levels of difficulty in emotion regulation and in turn promote healthy attitudes toward death escape acceptance. Objective. Recently, deep learning techniques have found extensive application in accurate and automated segmentation of tumor regions. However, owing to the variety of tumor shapes, complex types, and unpredictability of spatial distribution, tumor segmentation still faces major challenges. Taking cues from the deep supervision and adversarial learning, we have devised a cascade-based methodology incorporating multi-scale adversarial learning and difficult-region supervision learning in this study to tackle these challenges. Approach. Overall, the method adheres to a coarse-to-fine strategy, first roughly locating the target region, and then refining the target object with multi-stage cascaded binary segmentation which converts complex multi-class segmentation problems into multiple simpler binary segmentation problems. In addition, a multi-scale adversarial learning difficult supervised UNet (MSALDS-UNet) is proposed as our model for fine-segmentation, which applies multiple discriminators along the decoding path of the segmentation network to implement multi-scale adversarial learning, thereby enhancing the accuracy of network segmentation. Meanwhile, in MSALDS-UNet, we introduce a difficult region supervision loss to effectively utilize structural information for segmenting difficult-to-distinguish areas, such as blurry boundary areas. A thorough validation of three independent public databases (KiTS21, MSD's Brain and Pancreas datasets) shows that our model achieves satisfactory results for tumor segmentation in terms of key evaluation metrics including dice similarity coefficient, Jaccard similarity coefficient, and HD95. Significance. This paper introduces a cascade approach that combines multi-scale adversarial learning and difficult supervision to achieve precise tumor segmentation. The light‐weight, high‐strength polyether‐ether‐ketone (PEEK) shows great potential for weight‐sensitive, load‐bearing applications. The adoption of PEEK in those applications has been accelerated by the recently emerged three‐dimensional printing (3D‐printing) technique. However, achieving high strength in the 3D‐printed PEEK is still challenging. In this study, the mechanical strength of the 3D‐printed PEEK is jointly reinforced with high‐loading carbon fibers (CFs) and annealing treatment. The PEEK‐CF composite filaments containing three different CF contents, ranging between 5 and 15 wt%, are first prepared in‐house and subsequently printed into specimens. Both the tensile and flexural tests show that the composite containing 10 wt% CF exhibits the highest strength, reaching 114.7 and 139.2 MPa, respectively, the tensile strength of which amounts to a 35% increase from the unfilled counterpart. The annealing treatment on the printed samples further increases the strength of the composite both at room temperature and high‐temperature. After annealing, the tensile strength of the 3D‐printed PEEK‐CF composite reaches 131.5 MPa at room temperature and over 60 MPa at 200°C. The results from this study can spur new insights into design advanced polymer composites with outstanding mechanical properties. The orexin system is closely related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Orexin-A aggravates cognitive dysfunction and increases amyloid β (Aβ) deposition in AD model mice, but studies of different dual orexin receptor (OXR) antagonists in AD have shown inconsistent results. Our previous study revealed that OX1R blockade aggravates cognitive deficits and pathological progression in 3xTg-AD mice, but the effects of OX2R and its potential mechanism in AD have not been reported. In the present study, OX2R was blocked by oral administration of the selective OX2R antagonist MK-1064, and the effects of OX2R blockade on cognitive dysfunction and neuropsychiatric symptoms in 3xTg-AD mice were evaluated via behavioral tests. Then, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and ELISA were used to detect Aβ deposition, tau phosphorylation, and neuroinflammation, and electrophysiological and wheel-running activity recording were recorded to observe hippocampal synaptic plasticity and circadian rhythm. The results showed that OX2R blockade ameliorated cognitive dysfunction, improved LTP depression, increased the expression of PSD-95, alleviated anxiety- and depression-like behaviors and circadian rhythm disturbances in 3xTg-AD mice, and reduced Aβ pathology, tau phosphorylation, and neuroinflammation in the brains of 3xTg-AD mice. These results indicated that chronic OX2R blockade exerts neuroprotective effects in 3xTg-AD mice by reducing AD pathology at least partly through improving circadian rhythm disturbance and the sleep-wake cycle and that OX2R might be a potential target for the prevention and treatment of AD; however, the potential mechanism by which OX2R exerts neuroprotective effects on AD needs to be further investigated. Background: Osteosarcoma is a bone tumor that is characterized by high malignancy and a high mortality rate, and that originates from primitive osteoblastic mesenchymal cells and is most common in rapidly growing long bones. PSMD14, also known as RPN11 or POH1, is a member of the JAMM isopeptidase family, which is able to remove the substrate protein ubiquitination label, thereby regulating the stability and function of the substrate protein. In this study, we explored the expression and potential biological significance of the PSMD14 deubiquitinating enzyme in osteosarcoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical methods were used to detect the expression of PSMD14 in biopsies of 91 osteosarcoma patients, and the specimens were classified into high and low PSMD14 expression groups. The correlation between PSMD14 expression and clinical indicators and prognosis was compared.SiRNA was used to downregulate PSMD14 in two osteosarcoma cell lines (HOS and SJSA-1), and the effects of downregulation of PSMD14 on the viability, proliferation, and invasion ability of osteosarcoma cells were analyzed. Results: We identified significant differences in recurrence, metastasis, and survival time of the osteosarcoma patients on the basis of PSMD14 expression. High expression of PSMD14 in osteosarcoma patients was associated with a low survival rate and high risk of metastasis and recurrence. Down-regulation of PSMD14 inhibited the viability, proliferation, and invasiveness of osteosarcoma cell lines. Objective: The study aimed to investigate the predictive value of dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (DCE-US) in differentiating small-duct (SD) and large-duct (LD) types of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled 110 patients with pathologically confirmed ICC lesions who were subject to preoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) examinations between January 2022 and February 2023. Patients were further classified according to the subtype: SD-type and LD-type, and an optimal predictive model was established and validated using the above pilot cohort. The test cohort, consisting of 48 patients prospectively enrolled from March 2023 to September 2023, was evaluated. Results: In the pilot cohort, compared with SD-type ICCs, more LD-type ICCs showed elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (p < 0.001), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (p = 0.004), ill-defined margin (p = 0.018), intrahepatic bile duct dilation (p < 0.001). Among DCE-US quantitative parameters, the wash-out area under the curve (WoAUC), wash-in and wash-out area under the curve (WiWoAUC), and fall time (FT) at the margin of lesions were higher in the SD-type group (all p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the mean transit time (mTT) and wash-out rate (WoR) at the margin of the lesion were higher in the LD-type group (p = 0.041 and 0.007, respectively). Logistic regression analysis showed that intrahepatic bile duct dilation, mTT, and WoR were significant predictive factors for predicting ICC subtypes, and the AUC of the predictive model achieved 0.833 in the test cohort. Conclusions: Preoperative DCE-US has the potential to become a novel complementary method for predicting the pathological subtype of ICC. In recent years, photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) systems have played a crucial role in reducing energy consumption and environmental degradation, nonetheless, the low energy conversion efficiency presents a considerable obstacle for PV/T systems. Therefore, improving heat conversion efficiency is essential to enhance energy efficiency. In this paper, the PV/T system with the Tesla valve is proposed to solve this problem. Firstly, the cooling effect is simulated and analyzed in the system with four different flow channel structures: semicircle, rectangle, triangle and Tesla valve. The results indicate that the system with the Tesla valve exhibits superior cooling performance. Subsequently, several factors including angle, valve number, valve type, and pipe diameter ratio for the Tesla valve are further studied through numerical and simulation analysis. The results reveal that Tesla valves demonstrate optimal cooling performance when possessing the following structural parameters: complete symmetry, more valves, a 30-degree angle and a pipe diameter ratio of 1. Finally, four different types of fluid are selected to explore the Tesla valve. The conclusion shows that nanofluids with high density, low specific heat, and high thermal conductivity also improve the cooling performance. Thus, the PV/T system with the Tesla valve exhibits good heat dissipation and energy storage efficiency, electrical efficiency can reach 16.32% and thermal efficiency reach 59.65%. Background: Accurate differentiation of extremity soft-tissue tumors (ESTTs) is important for treatment planning. Purpose: To develop and validate an ultrasound (US) image-based radiomics signature to predict ESTTs malignancy. Material and Methods: A dataset of US images from 108 ESTTs were retrospectively enrolled and divided into the training cohort (78 ESTTs) and validation cohort (30 ESTTs). A total of 1037 radiomics features were extracted from each US image. The most useful predictive radiomics features were selected by the maximum relevance and minimum redundancy method, least absolute shrinkage, and selection operator algorithm in the training cohort. A US-based radiomics signature was built based on these selected radiomics features. In addition, a conventional radiologic model based on the US features from the interpretation of two experienced radiologists was developed by a multivariate logistic regression algorithm. The diagnostic performances of the selected radiomics features, the US-based radiomics signature, and the conventional radiologic model for differentiating ESTTs were evaluated and compared in the validation cohort. Results: In the validation cohort, the area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity of the US-based radiomics signature for predicting ESTTs malignancy were 0.866, 84.2%, and 81.8%, respectively. The US-based radiomics signature had better diagnostic predictability for predicting ESTT malignancy than the best single radiomics feature and the conventional radiologic model (AUC = 0.866 vs. 0.719 vs. 0.681 for the validation cohort, all P <0.05). The use of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) for brain imaging during human movement continues to increase. This technology measures brain activity non-invasively using near-infrared light, is highly portable, and robust to motion artifact. However, the spatial resolution of fNIRS is lower than that of other imaging modalities. It is unclear whether fNIRS has sufficient spatial resolution to differentiate nearby areas of the cortex, such as the leg areas of the motor cortex. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine fNIRS' ability to discern laterality of lower body contractions. Activity in the primary motor cortex was recorded in forty participants (mean = 23.4 years, SD = 4.5, female = 23, male = 17) while performing unilateral lower body contractions. Contractions were performed at 30% of maximal force against a handheld dynamometer. These contractions included knee extension, knee flexion, dorsiflexion, and plantar flexion of the left and right legs. fNIRS signals were recorded and stored for offline processing and analysis. Channels of fNIRS data were grouped into regions of interest, with five tolerance conditions ranging from strict to lenient. Four of five tolerance conditions resulted in significant differences in cortical activation between hemispheres. During right leg contractions, the left hemisphere was more active than the right hemisphere. Similarly, during left leg contractions, the right hemisphere was more active than the left hemisphere. These results suggest that fNIRS has sufficient spatial resolution to distinguish laterality of lower body contractions. The measurements of the Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) is a primary means to investigate solar activity and key measurement for understanding global climate change. The aperture diffraction is an error factor for the Solar Irradiance Absolute Radiometer (SIAR) on the Fengyun-3F (FY-3F) satellite. The diffraction effect correction factors can currently only be obtained by simulation, and they are obtained based on a series of approximate conditions that do not allow the accuracy of the diffraction correction results to be assessed. In this paper, we establish the diffraction effect measurement equipment based on the dark imaging technology and the theory of diffraction by Fraunhofer. The total light image and the aperture diffraction images of different angles were obtained by the CCD camera. The images were corrected by linearity, background, and continuity. Then, the diffraction effect curve of diffraction angle can be obtained. Finally, the diffraction correction factor of SIAR/FY-3F can be obtained by the accumulation of multiple apertures and combining the weighted integration of the solar spectrum. The results illustrated that the value of the diffraction correction factor of the SIAR aperture system on the FY-3F satellite is 2.85 × 10 − 3 , and the uncertainty of diffraction effect experimental measurement is 4.62%, which reduces the measurement error of the diffraction effect on the total solar irradiance to 1.32 × 10 − 4 . Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more useful as a decision-making and outcomes predictor tool. We have developed AI models to predict surgical complexity and the postoperative course in laparoscopic liver surgery for segments 7 and 8. Methods: We included patients with lesions located in segments 7 and 8 operated by minimally invasive liver surgery from an international multi-institutional database. We have employed AI models to predict surgical complexity and postoperative outcomes. Furthermore, we have applied SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to make the AI models interpretable. Finally, we analyzed the surgeries not converted to open versus those converted to open. Results: Overall, 585 patients and 22 variables were included. Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP) showed the highest performance for predicting surgery complexity and Random Forest (RF) for predicting postoperative outcomes. SHAP detected that MLP and RF gave the highest relevance to the variables "resection type" and "largest tumor size" for predicting surgery complexity and postoperative outcomes. In addition, we explored between surgeries converted to open and non-converted, finding statistically significant differences in the variables "tumor location," "blood loss," "complications," and "operation time." Conclusion: We have observed how the application of SHAP allows us to understand the predictions of AI models in surgical complexity and the postoperative outcomes of laparoscopic liver surgery in segments 7 and 8. Background: Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been determined to play a role in the onset of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Whether the TyG index and TyG with the combination of obesity indicators are associated with the clinical outcomes of the MetS population remains unknown. Method: Participants were extracted from multiple cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2018 years. Three indicators were constructed including TyG index, TyG combining with waist circumference (TyG-WC), and TyG combining with waist-to-height ratio (TyG-WHtR). The MetS was defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCPE) Adult Treatment Panel III. Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves, restricted cubic splines (RCS), and the Cox proportional hazard model were used to evaluate the associations between TyG-related indices and mortality of the MetS population. The sensitive analyses were performed to check the robustness of the main findings. Results: There were 10,734 participants with MetS included in this study, with 5,570 females and 5,164 males. The median age of the study population was 59 years old. The multivariate Cox regression analyses showed high levels of TyG-related indices were significantly associated with the all-cause mortality of MetS population [TyG index: adjustedhazard ratio (aHR): 1.36, 95%confidence interval (CI): 1.18–1.56, p < 0.001; TyG-WHtR index: aHR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.13–1.47, p < 0.001]. Meanwhile, the TyG-WC and TyG-WHtR index were associated with cardiovascular mortality of the MetS population (TyG-WC: aHR = 1.45, 95%CI: 1.13–1.85, p = 0.004; TyG-WHtR: aHR = 1.50 95%CI: 1.17–1.92, p = 0.002). Three TyG-related indices showed consistent significant correlations with diabetes mortality (TyG: aHR = 4.06, 95%CI: 2.81–5.87, p < 0.001; TyG-WC: aHR = 2.55, 95%CI: 1.82–3.58, p < 0.001; TyG-WHtR: aHR = 2.53 95%CI: 1.81–3.54, p < 0.001). The RCS curves showed a non-linear trend between TyG and TyG-WC indices with all-cause mortality (p for nonlinearity = 0.004 and 0.001, respectively). The sensitive analyses supported the positive correlations between TyG-related indices with mortality of the MetS population. Conclusion: Our study highlights the clinical value of TyG-related indices in predicting the survival of the MetS population. The huge demand for sand and gravel resources in road engineering construction leads to excessive consumption of resources and environmental damage. Recycling waste concrete and industrial solid waste as a road material is a promising alternative. In order to explore the application of these solid wastes in the road base, this paper studies the effect of adding lithium slag activated by an alkaline activator, fly ash (FA) and a combination of the two on the compressive strength, splitting strength and shrinkage performance of recycled cement-stabilized macadam mixture (RCSM). The optimum content of recycled aggregate (RA), alkali-activated lithium slag (AALS) and FA in composite-improved RCSM was optimized using a response surface method (Box–Behnken), and the microscopic characteristics of the mixture were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the optimum dosage of AALS, FA and RA determined by the response surface method is 15%, 10% and 40%, respectively. Compared with the cement-stabilized macadam mixture (CSM) with 40% RA, the 28 d compressive strength and 28 d splitting strength of the composite-improved RCSM are increased by 26.8% and 22.9%, respectively, and the dry shrinkage coefficient and average temperature shrinkage coefficient are decreased by 25.8% and 14.8%, respectively. Microscopic tests show that AALS and FA participate in the hydration reaction, generate more hydrated silicate (C-S-H) and ettringite (AFt), refine pores, effectively improve the performance of the internal interface transition zone of the mixture, make the microstructure of the mixture denser, and improve the strength and shrinkage performance of RCSM. Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are common environmental pollutants and may degrade differently with different resulting biotoxicity, when present together. This study investigated the toxicological effects of singular or combined exposure to dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in KM mice. Results indicated that combined exposure led to slower weight gain and an increased leukocyte count in the blood, as well as liver tissue lesions and downregulation of organ coefficients. Additionally, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were elevated in the liver, and glucose, pyruvate, triglyceride (TG), and total cholesterol (T-CHO) were significantly reduced, suggesting compromised liver function. Furthermore, mRNA levels of genes related to hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism were significantly altered. These findings suggest that combined exposure to DBP and MWCNTs can have severe impacts on liver function in mice, highlighting the importance of considering interactions between multiple contaminants in environmental risk assessments. Background: Pure laparoscopic donor hepatectomy (L‐DH) has seen a rise in uptake in recent years following the popularization of minimally invasive modality for major hepatobiliary surgery. Our study aimed to determine the safety and compare the perioperative outcomes of L‐DH with open donor hepatectomy (O‐DH) and laparoscopic non donor hepatectomy (L‐NDH) based on our single institution experience. Methods: Eighty of 113 laparoscopic hemi‐hepatectomies performed between 2015 and 2022 met study inclusion criteria. Of these, 11 were L‐DH. PSM in a 1:2 ratio of L‐DH versus L‐NDH and 1:1 ratio of L‐DH versus O‐DH were performed, identifying patients with similar baseline clinicopathological characteristics. Results: After 2:1 matching, the L‐DH cohort were significantly younger (P < 0.001) and had lower ASA scores (P < 0.001) than the L‐NDH cohort. L‐DH was associated with a longer median operating time (P < 0.001) and shorter median postoperative stay (P < 0.001) than L‐NDH. After 1:1 matching, there were no significant differences in baseline demographic between the L‐DH and O‐DH cohorts. L‐DH was associated with lower median blood loss (P = 0.040) and shorter length of stay compared to O‐DH (P = 0.004). There were no significant differences in recipient outcomes for both cohorts. Background: Gastric cancer (GC) remains a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality, accounting for approximately 1,080,000 diagnosed cases and 770,000 deaths worldwide annually. Disulfidptosis, characterized by the stress-induced abnormal accumulation of disulfide, is a recently identified form of programmed cell death. Substantial studies have demonstrated the significant influence of immune clearance on tumor progression. Therefore, we aimed to explore the intrinsic correlations between disulfidptosis and immune-related genes (IRGs) in GC, as well as the potential value of disulfidptosis-related immune genes (DRIGs) as biomarkers. Methods: This study incorporated the single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) dataset GSE183904 and transcriptome RNA sequencing of GC from the TCGA database. Disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) and IRGs were derived from the representative literature on both cell disulfidptosis and immunity. The expression and distribution of DRGs were investigated at the single-cell level in different GC cell types. Pearson correlation analysis was used to identify the IRGs closely related to disulfidptosis. The prognostic signature of DRIGs was established using Cox and LASSO analyses. We then analyzed and evaluated the differences in long-term prognosis, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), immune infiltration, mutation profile, CD274 expression, and response to chemotherapeutic drugs between the two groups. A tissue array containing 63 paired GC specimens was used to verify the expression of 4 DRIGs and disulfidptosis regulator SLC7A11 through immunohistochemistry staining. Results: The scRNA-seq analysis found that SLC7A11, SLC3A2, RPN1 and NCKAP1 were enriched in specific cell types and closely related to immune infiltration. Four DIRGs (GLA, HIF-1α, VPS35 and CDC37) were successfully identified to establish a signature to potently predict the survival time of GC patients. Patients with high risk scores generally experienced worse prognoses and exhibited greater resistant to classical chemotherapy drugs. Furthermore, the expression of GLA, HIF-1α, VPS35, CDC37 and SLC7A11 were elevated in GC tissues. A high expression of GLA, HIF-1α, VPS35 or CDC37 was associated with more advanced clinical stage of GC and increased SLC7A11 expression. Conclusion: Current study first highlights the potential value of DRIGs as biomarkers in GC. The huge energy consumption primarily resulting from the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is the paramount hindrance in achieving the cost-effectiveness of hydrogen production via water electrolysis. In this work, alcohols are employed to assist the hydrogen production, and the feasibility of coproducing electricity and hydrogen in the cation-exchange membrane direct alcohol fuel cells is conceptually validated. After the performance optimization, the peak power density of 114 mW cm−2 is achieved at the hydrogen generation current density of 230 mA cm−2. Impressively, the fairly flat 24-h constant current discharge and hydrogen production plots demonstrate the good durability of the proposed hydrogen production device. Moreover, the fuel flexibility of the cation-exchange membrane direct alcohol fuel cells on methanol, ethanol, propanol, iso-propanol and ethylene glycol furthering suggests its application potential. Open in new tab Download slide OBJECTIVES To evaluate the safety and feasibility of removing drainage tubes at larger size of air leak in patients with prolonged air leak after pulmonary surgery. METHODS Ninety-five patients who underwent pulmonary surgery with prolonged air leak in our centre were enrolled in this randomized controlled, single-centre, non-inferiority study. The drainage tube was clamped with a stable size of air leak observed over the last 6 h, which was quantified by gas flow rate using the digital drainage system. The control group (n  = 48) and the study group (n  = 46) had their drainage tube clamped at 0–20 ml/min and 60–80 ml/min, respectively. We continuously monitored clinical symptoms, conducted imaging and laboratory examinations, and decided whether to reopen the drainage tube. RESULTS The reopening rate in the study group was not lower than that in the control group (2.08% vs 6.52%, P  > 0.05). The absolute difference in reopening rate was 4.44% (95% confidence interval –0.038 to 0.126), with an upper limit of 12.6% below the non-inferiority margin (15%). There were significant differences in the length of stay [16.5 (13–24.75) vs 13.5 (12–19.25), P  = 0.017] and the duration of drainage [12 (9.25–18.50) vs 10 (8–12.25), P  = 0.007] between the control and study groups. No notable differences were observed in chest X-ray results 14 days after discharge or in the readmission rate. CONCLUSIONS For patients with prolonged air leak, removing drainage tubes at larger size of air leak demonstrated similar safety compared to smaller size of air leak, and can shorten both length of stay and drainage duration. Background and purpose: Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Its role in cancer metastasis remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential involvement of ferroptosis in gastric cancer (GC) metastasis. Methods: GC cells (AGS, MKN45, HGC27) were used to explore the role of ferroptosis in single and clustered cells with extracellular matrix (ECM) detachment in vitro. We overexpressed glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) to inhibit ferroptosis and assessed the changes in cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Then tumor tissues from 54 GC patients with and without lymphatic metastasis were collected for immunohistochemical staining to investigate the expression of ferroptosis and EMT markers. Finally, Kaplan–Meier survival curves were used to investigate the relationship between overall survival and expression of GPX4 in 178 GC patients. Results: Detached single cells had lower viability than adherent cells, but cell clustering improved their survival under matrix-detached conditions. Detached single cells exhibited an induction of iron-dependent reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, glutathione (GSH) depletion, lipid peroxidation, upregulation of ACSL4, TFRC and HO-1, increased iron levels, and changes in mitochondrial morphology. Opposite effects were observed in detached clustered cells, including the upregulation of the ferroptosis suppressors GPX4 and SLC7A11. Overexpression of GPX4 inhibited ferroptosis and promoted GC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT. Immunohistochemical analysis of tumor tissues from GC patients indicated that lymphatic metastasis was associated with higher potential for ferroptosis inhibition and EMT induction. Finally, Kaplan–Meier survival curves demonstrated a significant decrease in overall survival among GC patients with high GPX4 expression. Conclusions: Our study provides the first evidence that inhibition of ferroptosis is a crucial mechanism promoting GC metastasis. GPX4 may be a valuable prognostic factor for GC patients. These findings suggest that targeting ferroptosis inhibition may be a promising strategy for GC patients with metastatic potential. Early diagnosis of acute diseases is restricted by the sensitivity and complex process of sample treatment. Here, an ultrasensitive, rapid, and portable electrochemiluminescence‐microfluidic (ECL‐M) system is described via sandwich‐type immunoassay and surface plasmonic resonance (SPR) assay. Using a sandwich immunoreaction approach, the ECL‐M system employs cardiac troponin‐I antigen (cTnI) as a detection model with a Ru@SiO2 NPs labeled antibody as the signal probe. For miR‐499‐5p detection, gold nanoparticles generate SPR effects to enhance Ru(bpy)32+ ECL signals. The system based on alternating current (AC) electroosmotic flow achieves an LOD of 2 fg mL−1 for cTnI in 5 min and 10 aM for miRNAs in 10 min at room temperature. The point‐of‐care testing (POCT) device demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 98% specificity for cTnI detection in 123 clinical serum samples. For miR‐499‐5p, it exhibited 100% sensitivity and 97% specificity in 55 clinical serum samples. Continuous monitoring of these biomarkers in rats' saliva, urine, and interstitial fluid samples for 48 hours revealed observations rarely documented in biotic fluids. The ECL‐M POCT device stands as a top‐performing system for ECL analysis, offering immense potential for ultrasensitive, rapid, highly accurate, and facile detection and monitoring of acute diseases in POC settings. Endocytosis and endolysosomal trafficking are essential for almost all aspects of physiological functions of eukaryotic cells. As our understanding on these membrane trafficking events are mostly from studies in yeast and cultured mammalian cells, one challenge is to systematically evaluate the findings from these cell-based studies in multicellular organisms under physiological settings. One potentially valuable in vivo system to address this challenge is the vitellogenic oocyte in Drosophila, which undergoes extensive endocytosis by Yolkless (Yl), a low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), to uptake extracellular lipoproteins into oocytes and package them into a specialized lysosome, the yolk granule, for storage and usage during later development. However, by now there is still a lack of sufficient understanding on the molecular and cellular processes that control yolk granule biogenesis. Here, by creating genome-tagging lines for Yl receptor and analyzing its distribution in vitellogenic oocytes, we observed a close association of different endosomal structures with distinct phosphoinositides and actin cytoskeleton dynamics. We further showed that Rab5 and Rab11, but surprisingly not Rab4 and Rab7, are essential for yolk granules biogenesis. Instead, we uncovered evidence for a potential role of Rab7 in actin regulation and observed a notable overlap of Rab4 and Rab7, two Rab GTPases that have long been proposed to have distinct spatial distribution and functional roles during endolysosomal trafficking. Through a small-scale RNA interference (RNAi) screen on a set of reported Rab5 effectors, we showed that yolk granule biogenesis largely follows the canonical endolysosomal trafficking and maturation processes. Further, the data suggest that the RAVE/V-ATPase complexes function upstream of or in parallel with Rab7, and are involved in earlier stages of endosomal trafficking events. Together, our study provides s novel insights into endolysosomal pathways and establishes vitellogenic oocyte in Drosophila as an excellent in vivo model for dissecting the highly complex membrane trafficking events in metazoan. Purpose: To develop a multi-parameter intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) scoring system and compare its diagnostic performance with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) liver imaging reporting and data system M (LR-M) criteria for differentiating ICC from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 62 high-risk patients with ICCs and 62 high-risk patients with matched HCCs between January 2022 and December 2022 from two institutions. The CEUS LR-M criteria was modified by adjusting the early wash-out onset (within 45 s) and the marked wash-out (within 3 min). Then, a multi-parameter ICC scoring system was established based on clinical features, B-mode ultrasound features, and modified LR-M criteria. Result: We found that elevated CA 19-9 (OR=12.647), lesion boundary (OR=11.601), peripheral rim-like arterial phase hyperenhancement (OR=23.654), early wash-out onset (OR=7.211), and marked wash-out (OR=19.605) were positive predictors of ICC, whereas elevated alpha-fetoprotein (OR=0.078) was a negative predictor. Based on these findings, an ICC scoring system was established. Compared with the modified LR-M and LR-M criteria, the ICC scoring system showed the highest area under the curve (0.911 vs. 0.831 and 0.750, both p<0.05) and specificity (0.935 vs. 0.774 and 0.565, both p<0.05). Moreover, the numbers of HCCs categorized as LR-M decreased from 27 (43.5%) to 14 (22.6%) and 4 (6.5%) using the modified LR-M criteria and ICC scoring system, respectively. Conclusion: The modified LR-M criteria-based multi-parameter ICC scoring system had the highest specificity for diagnosing ICC and reduced the number of HCC cases diagnosed as LR-M category. Due to the requirements of privacy protection and data asset ownership, recommender systems (RSs) based on centralized training process may be infeasible in some practical situations. In these situations, federated recommender systems (FedRec) based on deep learning are regarded as the substitutes with extensive application backgrounds and enormous potential business values. However, which deep learning algorithm and federated learning aggregation strategy perform best in the training of FedRec is still an unsolved question. To answer this question, experiments are conducted for comparing the performances of four popular deep learning algorithms and three federated learning aggregation strategies in FedRec. The experiments are conducted on 8 public datasets to obtain 96 FedRec precisions (4 deep learning algorithms × 3 federated learning aggregation strategies × 8 datasets). Then, the Wilcoxon test is used to verify whether there is a significant difference between the FedRec combinations and to derive the best combination. The result shows that, in terms of recommendation precision, the best FedRec is the combination of neural FM and federated averaging. In terms of execution iterations, the best FedRec is the combination of deep crossing and attentive federated aggregation. The obtained results would be valuable for further promoting the development of RSs under the situations that a centralized training process is infeasible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Cholesterol gallstone (CG) disease is a worldwide common disease characterized by cholesterol supersaturation in gallbladder bile. Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide (GLP) has been shown to possess various beneficial effects against metabolic disorders. However, the role and underlying mechanism of GLP in CG formation are still unknown. This study aimed to determine the role of GLP in ameliorating lithogenic diet (LD)-induced CG formation. Methods: Mice were fed either a normal chow diet, a LD, or LD supplemented with GLP. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting were used to detect the expression of genes involved in cholesterol and bile acid (BA) metabolism. The BA concentrations in the ileum were quantified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). The microbiota in cecal contents were characterized using 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene sequencing. Results: GLP effectively alleviated CG formation induced by LD. Specifically, GLP reduced the total cholesterol (TC) levels, increased the total BA levels, and decreased the cholesterol saturation index (CSI) in gallbladder bile. The protective effect of GLP was attributed to the inhibition of farnesoid X receptor (FXR) signaling, increased hepatic BA synthesis and decreased hepatic cholesterol synthesis and secretion. GLP also altered the BA composition in the ileum, reducing FXR-agonistic BAs and increasing FXR-antagonistic BAs, which may contribute to the inhibition of intestinal FXR signaling. Additionally, GLP improved dysbiosis of the intestinal flora and reduced the serum levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a bacterial metabolite that can induce hepatic FXR, thereby inhibiting hepatic FXR signaling. Moreover, the protective effect of GLP against CG formation could be reversed by both the global and gut-restricted FXR agonists. Conclusions: Taken together, GLP ameliorates CG formation by regulating cholesterol and BA metabolism in an FXR-dependent manner. AbstractSpectroscopy has become prominent in medical surveillance due to its low cost, speed, and nondestructive testing. However, the issue of class unbalance in medical data causes existing algorithms to favor the majority classes, leading to their malfunction. This study attempts to propose a parallel type method based on two modified feature selection methods to achieve visible spectral discrimination of unbalanced urine specific gravity (USG) data. Firstly, the root mean square error (RMSE) of successive projections algorithm (SPA) and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) were modified by increasing weight coefficients. Then, SPA, CARS, modified SPA (mSPA), modified CARS (mCARS), tandem connection of SPA and CARS (CARS-SPA), tandem connection of mSPA and CARS (mCARS mSPA), parallel connection of SPA and CARS (CARS + SPA), and parallel connection of mSPA and CARS (mCARS + mSPA) were used to select characteristic wavelengths from the full spectrq. Finally, based on the variable subsets extracted by each method, the random forest (RF) models were established to verify the performance of the parallel strategy and modification method. The results showed that the RF model of mCARS + mSPA achieved effective discrimination of USG with high accuracy (92.81%), high sensitivity (0.9270), and high resolution (0.9280). It means that a parallel hybrid based on two modified feature selection methods can effectively select feature wavelengths beneficial for minority class recognition, achieving the mining of spectral features of unbalanced data. The correlation between scoliosis and sagittal curvature of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine have already been reported in previous studies. However, as a part of the spine, the change in coccygeal morphology in AIS patients has not yet been studied. In this study, a retrospective analysis was performed on 400 patients who were divided into a non-scoliotic group (206 patients) and an AIS group (194 patients). The Postacchini coccygeal radiological classification that was modified by Nathan was used to observe and compare the sagittal coccygeal morphology between the two groups. The results showed that the non-scoliotic group had the highest percentage (52.4%) of patients with type I and the lowest (3.4%) proportion of patients with type V; moreover, the AIS group had the highest percentage (69.1%) of patients with type I and the lowest (1.5%) proportion of patients with type V. The coccygeal morphology was significantly different between the non-scoliotic group and the AIS group (P = 0.001). No significant differences in coccygeal morphology were found between the males and females in the two groups (mild and moderate scoliosis and different segmental scoliosis). In addition, a significant correlation between coccygeal morphology and scoliosis (P = 0.035) was found. In conclusion, coccygeal morphology significantly differs between AIS patients and non-scoliotic adolescents. There was a smaller proportion of patients with a type I coccyx and a larger proportion of patients with a type II or type III coccyx in the AIS group than in the non-scoliotic group. In other words, the presence of a more pronounced coccygeal curve in AIS patients may be caused by an incorrect sitting position and an imbalance in the contraction of the pelvic muscles. It should be further studied whether correcting the sitting position and muscular imbalances could change coccygeal morphology and subsequently affect the development of AIS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Inner retinal dimples (IRDs) are frequently detected after internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling. However, the distribution of IRDs and its effect on postoperative visual function remain unclear. We aim to quantify the distribution of IRDs after ILM peeling in different macular diseases and analyze its influence on postoperative visual function. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients undergoing vitrectomy with ILM peeling and followed up until 12 months in our center. The distribution of IRDs were quantitatively determined using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography in a different sector of Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study grid. Visual function was evaluated by retinal sensitivity (RS) using microperimetry. Spearman correlation was performed between RS and IRDs within the same sectors. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to analyze the association between baseline characteristics and IRDs. Results: A total of 43 idiopathic macular hole (iMH) cases, 56 idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) cases and 42 myopic foveoschisis (mFS) cases were included. IRDs increased gradually at ILM-peeled area, interrupting ganglion cell layer. Most IRDs were observed in temporal sector. A negative correlation was depicted between the increase of IRDs and the progress of RS at both perifovea and parafovea in iERM, but only at perifovea in iMH. No significant correlation between the change of IRDs and RS was found in mFS. Multivariable linear regression model showed that preoperative axial length was significantly associated with postoperative IRDs in all patients. Conclusions: IRDs distributed mostly at temporal sector after ILM peeling, interrupting ganglion cell layer. IRD progression may influence postoperative RS only in iMH and iERM. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) C promoter (Cp) hypermethylation, a crucial factor for EBV latent infection of nasopharyngeal epithelial cells, has been recognized as a promising biomarker for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) detection. In this study, we develop a novel EBV Cp methylation quantification (E-CpMQ) assay and evaluate its diagnostic performance for NPC detection. A novel qPCR assay for simultaneous quantification of methylated- and unmethylated EBV Cp was developed by the combinational modification of MethyLight and QASM, with an innovative calibrator to improve the detection accuracy and consistency. The NP swab samples and synthetic standards were used for the analytical validation of the E-CpMQ. The diagnostic efficacy of the developed E-CpMQ assay was validated in 137 NPC patients and 137 non-NPC controls. The E-CpMQ assay can detect the EBV Cp methylation ratio in one reaction system under 10 copies with 100 % recognition specificity, which is highly correlated to pyrosequencing with a correlation coefficient over 0.99. The calibrated E-CpMQ assay reduces the coefficient of variation by an average of 55.5 % with a total variance of less than 0.06 units standard deviation (SD). Linear methylation ratio detection range from 4.76 to 99.01 %. The sensitivity and specificity of the E-CpMQ respectively are 96.4 % (95 % CI: 91.7–98.8 %), 89.8 % (95 % CI: 83.5–94.3 %). The developed E-CpMQ assay with a calibrator enables accurate and reproducible EBV Cp methylation ratio quantification and offers a sensitive, specific, cost-effective method for NPC early detection. Little is known about the association of ambient ozone with ovarian reserve. Based on a retrospective cohort study of 6008 women who attended a fertility center in Hubei, China, during 2018–2021, we estimated ozone exposure levels by calculating averages during the development of follicles (2-month [W1], 4-month [W2], 6-month [W3]) and 1-year before measurement (W4) according to Tracking Air Pollution in China database. We used multivariate logistic regression and linear regression models to investigate association of ozone exposure with anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), the preferred indicator of ovarian reserve. Each 10 μg/m3 increases in ozone were associated with 2.34% (0.68%, 3.97%), 2.08% (0.10%, 4.01%), 4.20% (1.67%, 6.67%), and 8.91% (5.79%, 11.93%) decreased AMH levels during W1-W4; AMH levels decreased by 15.85%, 11.90%, 16.92% in the fourth quartile during W1, W3, and W4 when comparing the extreme quartile, with significant exposure-response relationships during W4 (P < 0.05). Ozone exposure during W1 was positively associated with low AMH. Additionally, we detected significant effect modification by age, body mass index, and temperature in ozone-associated decreased AMH levels. Our findings highlight the potential adverse impact of ozone pollution on female ovarian reserve, especially during the secondary to small antral follicle stage and 1-year before measurement. The pollution caused by waste plastics is becoming increasingly serious, and utilizing the biodegradable materials, that can be completely degraded in nature, is considered to be one of the most promising ways to solve this problem. Poly(butylene adipate-co-butylene terephthalate) (PBAT), as the commonly used biodegradable polymer material, is subjected to the problem of high cost, poor mechanical performance, and low melt strength at high temperatures. Herein, a novel strategy combining solid utilization of biomass material chitin and incorporation of porous structure was developed to fabricate the PBAT bead foams, relying on the solid-state shear milling (S3M) and supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2) foaming technologies. Chitin scraps were super finely pulverized and uniformly combined with PBAT, and the PBAT-based bead foams with controllable cell structure, improved mechanical performance, and low cost after foaming the composite. When the content of chitin was 20%, the tensile strength and Young's modulus of PBAT/chitin bead foam were 0.72 MPa and 2.14 MPa, respectively, much higher than that of neat PBAT bead foam, expressing the great significance to broadening the application field of degradable plastics.
