Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most important histological type of lung cancer. This disease affects a large number of patients, and the prognosis of advanced patients is poor. Although great progress has been achieved for existing treatment methods, challenges still exist. Cancer is a genetic disease, and its occurrence is accompanied by substantial genomic-sequence instability. (GT/CA)n repeat sequence is a common microsatellite sequence serving as transcriptional function-related regions, DNA-methylation modification sites, and other functional sites. Its polymorphism is closely related to the expression of EGFR, HO-1, and HIF-1α in NSCLC patients. (GT/CA)n repeat sequence is the breakthrough point to explore the molecular mechanism of NSCLC occurrence and development, develop molecular markers for diagnosis and prognosis and epigenetics research. This paper summarizes the studies on (GT/CA)n repeat polymorphisms in NSCLC with the aim of providing references for relevant NSCLC research.

Collaboration between cancer treatment and inflammation management has emerged as an integral facet of comprehensive cancer care. Nevertheless, the development of interventions concurrently targeting both inflammation and cancer has encountered significant challenges stemming from various external factors. Herein, a bioactive agent synthesized by genetically engineering melanin‐producing Bacillus thuringiensis (B. thuringiensis) bacteria, simultaneously achieves eco‐friendly photothermal agent and efficient reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS) scavenger benefits, perfectly tackling present toughies from inflammation to cancer therapies. The biologically derived melanin exhibits exceptional photothermal‐conversion performance, facilitating potent photonic hyperthermia that effectively eradicates tumor cells and tissues, thereby impeding tumor growth. Additionally, the RONS‐scavenging properties of melanin produced by B. thuringiensis bacteria contribute to inflammation reduction, augmenting the efficacy of photothermal tumor repression. This study presents a representative paradigm of genetic engineering in B. thuringiensis bacteria to produce functional agents tailored for diverse biomedical applications, encompassing inflammation and cancer therapy. Many catalytic reactions suffer from product inhibition, which especially hard to control in homogeneous hydrogenation due to the scaling relation between the inhibited and active states of the catalyst. We recently reported one such pathway in Mn(I) hydrogenation and demonstrated that addition of alkoxide bases could affect the thermodynamic favorability of this reaction and selectively suppress the product inhibition. Since external reaction promotors are formally not involved in reaction thermodynamics, we set to investigate the explicit molecular interactions behind these apparently environmental effects. Herein, we reveal that the thermodynamic landscape of the inhibitory process exhibits a non‐monotonic dependence on the base concentration. This study related this phenomenon to the presence of two dominant mechanisms operating at different base concentrations. Specifically, the base additives can enhance the ionic strength and lower the free energy of the inhibited state at low promotor concentration. At high base concentrations this study suggested the formation of highly labile alcohol‐alkoxide clusters which stabilize the free alcohol and make its addition to the catalyst unfavourable, thereby suppressing the inhibition. While relatively weak, such noncovalent interactions between reactants and reaction environment can cause substantial perturbations to the free energy of catalytic process, ultimately deciding its fate. Introduction: Prior studies suggested that neuromuscular factors might be involved in the pathogenesis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is the important pivot where the nervous system interacts with muscle fibers, but it has not been well characterized in the paraspinal muscles of AIS. This study aims to perform the quantitative morphological analysis of NMJs from paraspinal muscles of AIS. Methods: AIS patients who received surgery in our center were prospectively enrolled. Meanwhile, age‐matched congenital scoliosis (CS) and non‐scoliosis patients were also included as controls. Fresh samples of paraspinal muscles were harvested intraoperatively. NMJs were immunolabeled using different antibodies to reveal pre‐synaptic neuronal architecture and post‐synaptic motor endplates. A confocal microscope was used to acquire z‐stack projections of NMJs images. Then, NMJs images were analyzed on maximum intensity projections using ImageJ software. The morphology of NMJs was quantitatively measured by a standardized 'NMJ‐morph' workflow. A total of 21 variables were measured and compared between different groups. Results: A total of 15 AIS patients, 10 CS patients and 5 normal controls were enrolled initially. For AIS group, NMJs in the convex side of paraspinal muscles demonstrated obviously decreased overlap when compared with the concave side (34.27% ± 8.09% vs. 48.11% ± 10.31%, p = 0.0036). However, no variables showed statistical difference between both sides of paraspinal muscles in CS patients. In contrast with non‐scoliosis controls, both sides of paraspinal muscles in AIS patients demonstrated significantly smaller muscle bundle diameters. Conclusions: This study first elucidated the morphological features of NMJs from paraspinal muscles of AIS patients. The NMJs in the convex side showed smaller overlap for AIS patients, but no difference was found in CS. This proved further evidence that neuromuscular factors might contribute to the mechanisms of AIS and could be considered as a novel potential therapeutic target for the treatment of progressive AIS. Simple Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the derived neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) in predicting the prognosis of patients with locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma, as well as the survival benefits from induction chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). The dNLR is an independent negative predictive factor for the disease. Patients with cTNM stage III disease and a low dNLR may benefit from induction chemotherapy. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the derived neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) in predicting the prognosis of patients with locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma (LAOSCC) and to assess the survival benefits from docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) (TPF) induction chemotherapy (IC). Methods: Patients from a phase III trial involving TPF IC in stage III/IVA OSCC patients (NCT01542931) were enrolled. Receiver operating characteristic curves were constructed, and the area under the curve was computed to determine dNLR cutoff points. Kaplan–Meier survival estimates and Cox proportional hazards models were used for longitudinal analysis. Results: A total of 224 patients were identified (median age: 55.4 years; range: 26 to 75 years; median follow-up: 90 months; range: 3.2 to 93 months). The cutoff point for the dNLR was 1.555. Multivariate analysis showed that the dNLR was an independent negative predictive factor for survival (overall survival (OS): hazard ratio (HR) = 1.154, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.018–1.309, p = 0.025; disease-free survival (DFS): HR = 1.123, 95% CI: 1.000–1.260, p = 0.050; local recurrence-free survival (LRFS): HR = 1.134, 95% CI: 1.002–1.283, p = 0.047; distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS): HR = 1.146, 95% CI: 1.010–1.300, p = 0.035). A low dNLR combined with cTNM stage III disease predicted benefit from TPF IC for the patients [OS (χ2 = 4.674, p = 0.031), DFS (χ2 = 7.134, p = 0.008), LRFS (χ2 = 5.937, p = 0.015), and DMFS (χ2 = 4.832, p = 0.028)]. Conclusions: The dNLR is an independent negative predictive factor in LAOSCC patients. Patients with cTNM stage III disease and a low dNLR can benefit from TPF IC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Measuring the size of suspended particles in water is crucial in related fields such as environmental engineering, marine engineering, and hydraulic engineering. Considering the size distribution of suspended particles in real rivers, the amplitude (Amp) of the backscattering of particles with sizes ranging from 0.006 mm to 0.030 mm was analysed in this research using a lightweight ultrasonic meter developed by the authors and four probes with bandwidths ranging from 3.0 MHz to 30.0 MHz. In the analysis of Amp measurements for different particle sizes, using 0.008 mm as the reference particle size and converting to the rest of the particle sizes, if the Rayleigh scattering condition is satisfied between the particle sizes and the probe frequency, the conversion error value will be between −10% and 10%. This verifies the correctness of the theoretically derived particle size-Amp theory (the positive power relationship between the particle sizes and the Amp) and reflects the validity constraints of designing this experimental setup. The measurement method based on particle backscattering Amp analysis utilised in this study will help to achieve real-time measurements of suspended particles at river sites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study takes the mine wall of the isolated mine pillar in the Dongguashan Copper Mine as the research object. Based on the mechanical model of the mine wall under the trapezoidal loading of the backfill, the expressions for calculating the safety factor of the mine wall were derived by considering the load-bearing conditions of the backfill–mine-wall system under different roof-contacted filling rates. On this basis, the variation law of the safety factor of the mine wall with the roof-contacted filling rate was obtained, and the calculation result was verified by a numerical simulation and a field test. The research shows that for the same mine wall width, when the roof-contacted filling rate exceeds 9.53%, the safety factor of the mine wall exhibits a "trapezoidal" variation pattern with the increase in the roof-contacted filling rate. Moreover, the comprehensive benefits of isolated pillar recovery are made more credible by maintaining a wall width of 3 m and a filler jointing rate between 30% and 74.49%. This study analyzes the effect of the roof-contacted filling rate on the stability of the mine wall, which can provide a theoretical basis for mining isolated pillars by the filler method in deep mines. Currently, brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) have become an important part of advanced human-computer interactions. Its essence is to infer people's ideas or purposes through brain signals to realize human-computer communication. BCI systems based on steady-state visual-evoked potentials (SSVEP) are widely used in the field of BCI because of their high information transfer rate (ITR), low training requirements, and simple system structure. To explore a reasonable design method of visual stimulation in an SSVEP-BCI interactive interface, this study completed two experiments based on the shape and presentation of visual stimulation. Experiment 1 explored the optimal shapes of different visual stimuli. The results indicated that there were significant differences in task completion times for different stimulus shapes. Combined with ergonomics experiment and subjective evaluation results, the circular was the optimal stimulus shape. Experiment 2 used different numbers of auxiliary stimuli under the condition of circular stimulus. The results showed significant differences in task completion time for various auxiliary stimuli, and the number of auxiliary stimuli negatively correlated with task completion time. Through subjective evaluation, it was found that all the median scores of the usability index increased when there were more auxiliary stimuli. The recommended number of auxiliary stimuli was eight. This research provides significant evidence for the design of visual stimulation for SSVEP-BCI systems. The experimental conclusions are of great value for improving the interaction efficiency of SSVEP-BCI systems, enhancing user experience, and expanding application fields. Developing non-doped blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with excellent photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), high exciton utilization efficiency (EUE) and balanced carrier mobility is an urgent challenge. Herein, two blue molecules based on hot excitons were reported, namely PPIFB and PPIBF. Using a plane-rigid fluorene as the main conjugated π bridge with a small torsion angle of PPIFB restricted the rotation and vibrational relaxation of molecules, which makes PPIFB achieve a PLQY as high as 90% in neat films. Moreover, fluorene participates in long-range π stacking, enriching weak intermolecular forces and the introduction of benzoyl fluorene as an acceptor ushers in hydrogen bonding interactions, which increase and aid in achieving balanced carrier mobilities, with hole and electron mobilities up to 2 × 10−6 and 7.71 × 10−7 cm2 V−1 s−1 respectively. Also, the introduction of benzoyl fluorenes increased the contribution of the n-orbitals, resulting in a higher spin–orbit coupling (SOC) of up to 14.7 cm−1, which is beneficial for achieving high exciton utilization. The non-doped OLED of PPIFB exhibits a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 9.1% at 459 nm, which is one of the best results for non-doped blue fluorescent OLEDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
