Objective ‍To investigate the effect and mechanism of dexmedetomidine （Dex） pretreated pericytes （Dex-PCs） on acute lung injury （ALI） in septic mice.Methods‍ ‍Mouse model of sepsis-ALI was established with intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide （LPS） at a dose of 10 mg/kg. A total of 96 C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into sham operation （Sham） group， ALI group， PC treatment group and Dex-PCs treatment group. The mice of the PCs and Dex-PCs groups received a tail venous injection of 5×105 PC cells， respectively， whereas those of the Sham and ALI groups received equal volume of normal saline. Flow cytometry， immunofluorescence assay， whole-body volume tracing system and ELISA were used to observe the changes in the colonization of PCs， pulmonary vascular permeability， lung function， serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels， as well as the survival rate and survival time of mice at 72 h after LPS stimulation. After PCs and Dex-PCs were exposed to 10 μg/mL LPS， the level of intracellular reactive oxygen species （ROS） was measured. ‍Results ‍Compared with the Sham group， the ALI group had increased permeability of pulmonary vascular endothelial cells， extensive extravasation of Evans blue， severely destructed of lung tissue structure and massive inflammatory cell infiltration， higher lung wet/dry weight ratio， elevated serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels， and declined lung function， and no mice survived for 72 h after modeling （P

Abstract The role of dairy products in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention remains controversial. This study investigates the association between dairy consumption and CVD incidence using data from the China Kadoorie Biobank and the UK Biobank, complemented by an updated meta-analysis. Among Chinese participants, regular dairy consumption (primarily whole milk) is associated with a 9% increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and a 6% reduced risk of stroke compared to non-consumers. Among British participants, total dairy consumption is linked to lower risks of CVD, CHD, and ischemic stroke, with cheese and semi-skimmed/skimmed milk contributing to reduced CVD risk. Meta-analysis reveals that total dairy consumption is associated with a 3.7% reduced risk of CVD and a 6% reduced risk of stroke. Notably, inverse associations with CVD incidence are observed for cheese and low-fat dairy products. Current evidence suggests that dairy consumption, particularly cheese, may have protective effects against CVD and stroke.

Water use efficiency (WUE) plays a pivotal role in connecting the carbon and water cycles and represents the amount of water used by plants or ecosystems to achieve carbon sequestration. The response of WUE to climate warming and its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we examined the effects of varying levels of warming on carbon fluxes, water fluxes, and WUE in an alpine peatland, with Blysmus sinocompressus and Carex secbrirostris as dominant species. Open-top chambers were utilized to simulate two levels of warming: low-level warming (TL) and high-level warming (TH). The carbon dioxide and water fluxes were monitored over a growing season (June to September). Gradient warming significantly decreased both gross primary productivity (GPP) and net ecosystem carbon exchange (NEE); GPP was 10.05% and 13.31% lower and NEE was 21.00% and 30.00% lower in the TL and TH treatments, respectively, than in the control. Warming had no significant effect on soil evaporation, and plant transpiration and evapotranspiration were 36.98% and 23.71% higher in the TL treatment than in the control, respectively; this led to decreases of 31.38% and 28.17% in canopy water use efficiency (WUEc) and ecosystem water use efficiency (WUEe), respectively. Plant transpiration was the main factor affecting both WUEe and WUEc in response to warming. The findings underscore the essential function of water fluxes in regulating WUE and enhance our understanding of carbon–water coupling mechanisms under climate change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple synthesis and high performance are eternal pursuit for polymers. To lower the curing temperature, lower the melt viscosity and improve the processability of high performance phthalonitrile resins, a solvent‐free method was applied to synthesize three from different phenols. Their chemical structure was confirmed by FTIR and NMR spectra, the curing behavior was investigated by DSC and rheology. It was found that the polymerization of phthalonitrile groups could be effectively promoted by benzoxazine moieties and the curing temperature of phthalonitrile groups dropped to around 240°C. Consequently, owing to the high curing reactivity, polymers obtained at relatively low curing temperature possessed high crosslinking density and extremely high thermal stability. P‐apn‐200, which was cured at 200°C, showed 5 wt% weightloss temperature (Td5) of 472°C and char yield (Yc) of 75.77% at 800°C. Moreover, the polymers obtained after curing at 280°C showed superior dimensional stability, CN‐apn‐280 showed extremely low linear expansion coefficient (CTE) of 10.7 ppm/°C. And mP‐apn‐280 showed HR capacity of 3.99 J/g‧K, peak HRR of 4.0 W/K and total HR of 0.8 kJ/g. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Zr-containing silica residue (ZSR) is an industrial by-product of ZrOCl2 production obtained through an alkali fusion process using zircon sand. In this study, low-cost and efficient Zr-doped mesoporous silica adsorption materials (Zr-MCM-41 and Zr-SBA-15) were prepared in one step via the hydrothermal synthesis method using ZSR as the silicon source for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from dye-contaminated wastewater. The samples were characterized using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry (TG), and N2 adsorption–desorption measurements. The findings indicate that the synthesized Zr-MCM-41 and Zr-SBA-15 possess highly ordered mesoscopic structures with high specific surface areas of 910 and 846 m2/g, large pore volumes of 1.098 and 1.154 cm3/g, and average pore diameters of 4.18 and 5.35 nm, respectively. The results of the adsorption experiments show that the adsorbent has better adsorption properties under alkaline conditions. The adsorption process obeys the pseudo-quadratic kinetic model and the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model, indicating the coexistence of physical and chemisorption processes. The maximum adsorption capacities of Zr-MCM-41 and Zr-SBA-15 are 618.43 and 516.58 mg/g, respectively, as calculated by the Langmuir model (pH = 9, temperature of 25 °C). Compared with mesoporous silica prepared with sodium silicate as the silicon source, Zr-MCM-41 and Zr-SBA-15 have different structural properties and better adsorption properties due to Zr doping. These findings indicate that ZSR is the preferred silicon source for preparing mesoporous silica, and the mesoporous silica prepared using Zr silicon slag is a promising adsorbent and has great application potential in wastewater treatment. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the relationship between circulating metabolites and postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) and to assess the mediating role of inflammatory factors. Methods: Utilizing summary-level data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and employing a Mendelian Randomization approach, a two-sample MR analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between circulating metabolites and PMOP. Additionally, a two-step MR was used to quantify the mediating impact of inflammatory factors on the effect of circulating metabolites on PMOP. Results: The results revealed a significant association between certain metabolites and the risk of PMOP, notably the ratio of free cholesterol to total lipids in very large VLDL particles (OR: 1.399, 95% CI: 1.002-1.954, p = 0.048) and IL-16 (OR: 0.773, 95% CI: 0.608-0.983, p = 0.036). IL-16 was found to partially mediate the impact of circulating metabolites on PMOP, with a mediation effect of 10.4%. Conclusion: This study underscores the crucial role of circulating metabolites and inflammatory factors in PMOP pathogenesis. A causal relationship between circulating metabolites and PMOP was established, with IL-16 mediating some effects. Bacterial biofilms, complex microbial communities encased in a protective extracellular matrix, pose a significant threat to public health due to their inherent antibiotic resistance. This review explores the potential of peptides, particularly antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), as innovative tools to combat biofilm-related infections. AMPs, characterized by their potent antimicrobial activity and tissue permeability, offer a promising approach to overcome the challenges posed by biofilms. By disrupting biofilm architecture, inhibiting bacterial growth, and enhancing biofilm detection through nuclear-based, fluorescence-based, and nanobased techniques, AMPs provide a multifaceted strategy. This review highlights recent advancements, approaches, and strategies in peptide research, examining their potential as both diagnostic and therapeutic agents. It also addresses key challenges and outlines future directions for optimizing peptide-based detection and therapies. By overcoming these challenges and refining peptide design, we can unlock the full potential of AMPs in combating bacterial biofilm infections, paving the way for the development of innovative solutions to tackle biofilm-related diseases and improve global health.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the impact of interpregnancy weight changes (IPWC) on the gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the second pregnancy., Design: A single-centre retrospective cohort study was conducted in China., Setting: Data were collected in Peking University Shenzhen Hospital from 2013 January to 2021 February., Participants: Participants include women who had two consecutive singleton deliveries after 28 gestational weeks (n=2372)., Outcomes: The GDM in the second pregnancy (s-GDM) was set as the outcome., Methods: IPWC was defined as the change in body mass index between the first trimester of the second pregnancy and that of the first pregnancy, categorised into four groups with -1 kg/m² to <1 kg/m² as the reference. Adjusted ORs (aORs) with 95% CIs attained from multivariable logistic regression were used to assess the association between IPWC and s-GDM, in both total subjects and stratified subgroups., Results: In the overall analysis, s-GDM was found to be significantly associated with IPWC value (aOR 1.111; 95% CI 1.038 to 1.190) and an IPWC category of ≥3 kg/m² (aOR 1.821; 95% CI 1.197 to 2.772). In the stratified analysis, the significant association between IPWC ≥3 kg/m² and s-GDM was evident only in the subgroups of an interpregnancy interval (IPI) of less than 36 months (aOR 2.210, 95% CI 1.251 to 3.904), under the age of 35 (aOR 1.854, 95% CI 1.204 to 2.857), non-diabetic status in the first pregnancy (f-ND) (aOR 1.872, 95% CI 1.143 to 3.065) and those with normal weight in the first pregnancy (aOR 1.936, 95% CI 1.174 to 3.193). The significant association between IPWC value and s-GDM was also shown only in these subgroups (p<0.05). In f-DN subgroup, even an IPWC category of 1 kg/m² to <3 kg/m² was significantly associated with s-GDM (aOR 1.486, 95% CI 1.044 to 2.117). IPWC < -1 kg/m² was not significantly associated with s-GDM either in the overall analysis or in the stratified analysis (p>0.05)., Conclusion: An IPWC of 3 kg/m² or higher may increase the risk of s-GDM, particularly among women with an IPI of less than 36 months, those under 35 years old, individuals without diabetes, or those with normal weight during their first pregnancy.
