Abstract Three-dimensional (3D) imaging of individual atoms is a critical tool for discovering new physical phenomena and developing new technologies in microscopic systems. However, the current single-atom-resolved 3D imaging methods are limited to static circumstances or a shallow detection range. Here, we demonstrate a generic dynamic 3D imaging method to track the extensive motion of single ions by exploiting the engineered point-spread function (PSF). We show that the image of a single ion can be engineered into a helical PSF, thus enabling single-snapshot acquisition of the position information of the ion in the trap. A preliminary application of this technique is demonstrated by recording the 3D motion trajectory of a single trapped ion and reconstructing the 3D dynamical configuration transition between the zig and zag structures of a 5-ion crystal. This work opens the path for studies on single-atom-resolved dynamics in both trapped-ion and neutral-atom systems.

ObjectiveTo analyze the characteristics and changing trend of injury cause of mortality of residents in Qingpu District from 2002 to 2020， and to provide scientific reference for formulating regional prevention and control measures.MethodsThe injury mortality data of the registered residents in Qingpu District from 2002 to 2020 were collected. The indicators such as crude mortality rate， standardized mortality rate， and the ranking of causes of death were calculated.ResultsFrom 2002 to 2020， the average annual crude mortality rate was 50.27/ 100 000， the age-standardized mortality rate based on the world standard population（ASRW） was 30.08/100 000， and the age-standardized mortality rate based on the 2010 Chinese census（ASMRC） was 35.58/100 000. Summary: Psoriasis is an intractable immune-mediated disorder that disrupts the skin barrier. While studies have dissected the mechanism by which immune cells directly regulate epidermal cell proliferation, the involvement of dermal fibroblasts in the progression of psoriasis remains unclear. Here, we identified that signals from dendritic cells (DCs) that migrate to the dermal-epidermal junction region enhance dermal stiffness by increasing extracellular matrix (ECM) expression, which further promotes basal epidermal cell hyperproliferation. We analyzed cell-cell interactions and observed stronger interactions between DCs and fibroblasts than between DCs and epidermal cells. Using single-cell RNA (scRNA) sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, immunostaining, and stiffness measurement, we found that DC-secreted LGALS9 can be received by CD44+ dermal fibroblasts, leading to increased ECM expression that creates a stiffer dermal environment. By employing mouse psoriasis and skin organoid models, we discovered a mechano-chemical signaling pathway that originates from DCs, extends to dermal fibroblasts, and ultimately enhances basal cell proliferation in psoriatic skin.

Mitophagy maintains tissue homeostasis by self-eliminating defective mitochondria through autophagy. How mitophagy regulates stem cell activity during hair regeneration remains unclear. Here, we found that mitophagy promotes the proliferation of hair germ (HG) cells by regulating glutathione (GSH) metabolism. First, single-cell RNA sequencing, mitochondrial probe, transmission electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence staining showed stronger mitochondrial activity and increased mitophagy-related gene especially Prohibitin 2 (Phb2) expression at early-anagen HG compared to the telogen HG. Mitochondrial inner membrane receptor protein PHB2 binds to LC3 to initiate mitophagy. Second, molecular docking and functional studies revealed that PHB2-LC3 activates mitophagy to eliminate the damaged mitochondria in HG. RNA-seq, single-cell metabolism, immunofluorescence staining, and functional validation discovered that LC3 promotes GSH metabolism to supply energy for promoting HG proliferation. Third, transcriptomics analysis and immunofluorescence staining indicated that mitophagy was down-regulated in the aged compared to young-mouse HG. Activating mitophagy and GSH pathways through small-molecule administration can reactivate HG cell proliferation followed by hair regeneration in aged hair follicles. Our findings open up a new avenue for exploring autophagy that promotes hair regeneration and emphasizes the role of the self-elimination effect of mitophagy in controlling the proliferation of HG cells by regulating GSH metabolism.

BackgroundIn randomized clinical trials (RCTs) investigating the application of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) in schizophrenia, inconsistent results have been reported. The purpose of this exploratory systematic review of RCTs was to evaluate tACS as an adjunct treatment for patients with schizophrenia based on its therapeutic effects, tolerability, and safety.MethodsOur analysis included RCTs that evaluated adjunctive tACS’ effectiveness, tolerability, and safety in schizophrenia patients. Three independent authors extracted data and synthesized it using RevMan 5.3 software.ResultsThree RCTs involving 76 patients with schizophrenia were encompassed in the analysis, with 40 participants receiving active tACS and 36 receiving sham tACS. Our study revealed a significant superiority of active tACS over sham tACS in improving total psychopathology (standardized mean difference [SMD] = −0.61, 95% confidence interval [CI]: −1.12, −0.10; I2 = 16%, p = 0.02) and negative psychopathology (SMD = −0.65, 95% CI: −1.11, −0.18; I2 = 0%, p = 0.007) in schizophrenia. The two groups, however, showed no significant differences in positive psychopathology, general psychopathology, or auditory hallucinations (all p > 0.05). Two RCTs examined the neurocognitive effects of tACS, yielding varied findings. Both groups demonstrated similar rates of discontinuation due to any reason and adverse events (all p > 0.05).ConclusionAdjunctive tACS is promising as a viable approach for mitigating total and negative psychopathology in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. However, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of tACS’s therapeutic effects in schizophrenia, it is imperative to conduct extensive, meticulously planned, and well-documented RCTs.

NiTi powders used for selective laser melting have here been fabricated by the breakup of discontinuous droplets in electrode induction melting gas atomization (EIGA). The morphology, particle size distribution, and hollow ratio of the powder were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser particle size analyzer, and computed tomography (CT), respectively. The effects of gas pressure and catheter length on the particle size distribution and powder morphology were then studied. Furthermore, the effects of the classifier wheel speed on the particle size distribution and yield of the 15–53 μ m powder in the classification process were also analyzed. The results showed that the average particle size (D50) of the NiTi powder first decreased and, thereafter, increased as the atomization gas pressure increased. This was also the situation with catheter length. Also, the yield of the 15–53 μ m powder increased with an increase in the classifier wheel speed. The optimum parameters were a gas atomization pressure of 5 MPa, a tension length of 28 mm, and a classifier wheel speed of 660 r min ^−1 . For this optimized condition, the D50 value and the yield of the NiTi powder were 57.54 μ m and 46.4%. In addition, the flowability, hollow ratio, and oxygen content were 15.8 s/50 g, 0.31%, and 450 ppm, respectively.

In recent years, stimulation‐responsive hydrogels have emerged as a promising vehicle for wound management and drug delivery. However, due to their limited therapeutic effect, there is an urgent need to develop new hydrogel systems that can achieve effective wound treatment. MXenes have been widely used in diagnostic, antimicrobial, and electrochemical sensing applications, and are increasingly being investigated for their potential in wound therapy. In this review, we present a comprehensive overview of responsive MXene‐based hydrogels systems for wound repair, including their synthesis methods, structures, surface modification strategies, biomedical applications, cytotoxicity, and biocompatibility. We also discuss the opportunities and challenges that responsive MXene‐based hydrogels are likely to face in the future. Overall, this review will be a useful resource for researchers and practitioners working on the development and application of responsive MXene‐based hydrogels for wound treatment. Introduction: Distinguishing between malignant pleural effusion (MPE) and benign pleural effusion (BPE) poses a challenge in clinical practice. We aimed to construct and validate a combined model integrating radiomic features and clinical factors using computerized tomography (CT) images to differentiate between MPE and BPE. Methods: A retrospective inclusion of 315 patients with pleural effusion (PE) was conducted in this study (training cohort: n = 220; test cohort: n = 95). Radiomic features were extracted from CT images, and the dimensionality reduction and selection processes were carried out to obtain the optimal radiomic features. Logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest were employed to construct radiomic models. LR analyses were utilized to identify independent clinical risk factors to develop a clinical model. The combined model was created by integrating the optimal radiomic features with the independent clinical predictive factors. The discriminative ability of each model was assessed by receiver operating characteristic curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Out of the total 1,834 radiomic features extracted, 15 optimal radiomic features explicitly related to MPE were picked to develop the radiomic model. Among the radiomic models, the SVM model demonstrated the highest predictive performance [area under the curve (AUC), training cohort: 0.876, test cohort: 0.774]. Six clinically independent predictive factors, including age, effusion laterality, procalcitonin, carcinoembryonic antigen, carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), and neuron-specific enolase (NSE), were selected for constructing the clinical model. The combined model (AUC: 0.932, 0.870) exhibited superior discriminative performance in the training and test cohorts compared to the clinical model (AUC: 0.850, 0.820) and the radiomic model (AUC: 0.876, 0.774). The calibration curves and DCA further confirmed the practicality of the combined model. Conclusion: This study presented the development and validation of a combined model for distinguishing MPE and BPE. This study delved into the larval development and the morphological and anatomical transformations that occur in the galls of chestnut trees (Castanea mollissima BL.) and are induced by the chestnut gall wasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu (GWDK) across various stages: initial, growth, differentiation, maturity, and lignification. Chestnut galls in the five development stages were collected. Gall structural characteristics were observed with an anatomical stereomicroscope, and anatomical changes in galls were analyzed with staining and scanning electron microscope techniques. The chestnut gall wasp laid its eggs on young leaves and buds. Chestnut gall wasp parasitism caused plant tissues to form a gall chamber, with parenchyma, protective, and epidermal layers. The development of the gall structure caused by the infestation of the GWDK gall led to the weakening of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) elimination ability of the host. The accumulation of ROS led to cell wall peroxidation, resulting in structural damage and diminished host resistance, and the parenchyma layer exhibited significant nutrient supply and thickening. The thickness of the protective and epidermal layers varied notably across different growth stages. The oviposition of the chestnut gall wasp induced modifications in the original plant tissues, with gall formation being most favorable in young tissues, correlating with the maturity level of the host plant tissues. Variances in the internal structures of the galls primarily stemmed from nutrient supplementation, while those in the external structure were attributed to defensive characteristics. This research contributes a foundational understanding of gall development induced by the chestnut gall wasp in Chinese chestnut, offering valuable insights into the intricate interplay between insect infestation and plant physiology. Pecan forests (Carya illinoinensis) are significant contributors to both food and oil production, and thrive in diverse soil environments, including coastal regions. However, the interplay between soil microbes and pecan forest health in coastal environments remains understudied. Therefore, we investigated soil bacterial and fungal diversity in coastal (Dafeng, DF) and inland (Guomei, GM) pecan plantations using high-throughput sequencing. The results revealed a higher microbial diversity in the DF plantation than in the GM plantation, significantly influenced by pH and edaphic factors. The dominant bacterial phyla were Proteobacteria, Acidobacteriota and Bacteroidota in the DF plantation, and Acidobacteriota, Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobiota in the GM plantation. Bacillus, Nitrospira and UTCFX1 were significantly more abundant bacterial genera in DF soil, whereas Candidatus Udaeobacter, HSB_OF53-F07 and ADurbBin063-1 were more prevalent in GM soil. Basidiomycota dominated fungal sequences in the GM plantation, with a higher relative abundance of Ascomycota in the DF plantation. Significant differences in fungal genus composition were observed between plantations, with Scleroderma, Hebeloma, and Naucoria being more abundant in DF soil, and Clavulina, Russula, and Inocybe in GM soil. A functional analysis revealed greater carbohydrate metabolism potential in GM plantation bacteria and a higher ectomycorrhizal fungi abundance in DF soil. Significantly positive correlations were detected between certain bacterial and fungal genera and pH and total soluble salt content, suggesting their role in pecan adaptation to coastal environments and saline–alkali stress mitigation. These findings enhance our understanding of soil microbiomes in coastal pecan plantations, and are anticipated to foster ecologically sustainable agroforestry practices and contribute to coastal marshland ecosystem management.
