Bone homeostasis encompasses two interrelated aspects: bone remodeling and cartilage metabolism. Disruption of bone homeostasis can lead to the development of metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. The maintenance of bone homeostasis is a complex process that does not solely rely on the functions of the bone tissue itself. In fact, bone tissue is not an isolated entity; it is closely connected to other tissues in the body via exosomes. Within this interconnectivity, exosomes derived from both bone and non-bone cells interfere with each other, forming a complex regulatory network. Therefore, with cell origin as the guiding principle, we have delineated the bone regulatory network of exosomes, elaborated on the specific roles and regulatory mechanisms of exosomes derived from common cell types (cells within the skeletal microenvironment, stem cells from extra-osseous tissues, vascular-derived cells, muscle-derived cells, and neurogenic cells) in bone formation, bone resorption, and cartilage metabolism. We have also discussed the challenges faced in the field of exosome research related to bone homeostasis, unveiled the critical role of exosomes in maintaining bone homeostasis, and proposed that exosomes could serve as highly valuable therapeutic targets for metabolic bone diseases. Lithium-sulfur batteries have been recognized as one of the excellent candidates for next-generation energy storage batteries because of their high energy density and low cost and low pollution. However, lithium-sulfur batteries have been challenged by low conductivity, low sulfur utilization, poor cycle life, and the shuttle effect of polysulfides. To address these problems, we report here an independent mixed sulfur host. First, NiCoAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets were uniformly grown on carbon cloth (CC) by a hydrothermal method. Then, vertical graphene (VG) was uniformly vertically grown on the composite structures to form VG@LDH/CC by a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method. Graphene and LDH nanosheets forming a three-dimensional mesh structure can effectively physically block lithium polysulfides, store singlet sulfur, and improve the conductivity of the cathode. In addition, during the growth of graphene, the Ni and Co ions in the LDH nanosheets are reduced to NiCo nanoparticles, which can enhance the chemical adsorption of polysulfides, thus effectively mitigating the "shuttle effect" and improving the electrical conductivity of the material. The lithium sulfur batteries with derived sulfur anodes (VG@LDH/CC-S) exhibited excellent electrochemical properties, including excellent rate performance (780.8 mAh g -1 at 3C) and impressive cycling stability (capacity decay of about 0.0755% per cycle after 750 cycles at 0.5C).

A lack of iron (Fe) inhibits the growth and development of plants, leading to reduced agricultural yields and quality. In the last ten years, numerous studies have focused on the induction of Fe uptake and translocation under Fe deficiency, but the regulatory mechanisms governing Fe reutilization within plants are still not well understood. Here, we demonstrated the involvement of the NAM/ATAF1/2/CUC2 (NAC) transcription factor NAC50 in response to Fe shortage. The content of soluble Fe was greatly reduced in nac50 mutants, leading to increased chlorosis in the newly emerging leaves under the Fe-deficient condition. Subsequent investigation revealed that the cell wall of the nac50 mutants' roots accumulated more Fe, along with an increment in hemicellulose content, indicating that a cell wall-associated Fe reutilization pathway was involved in the NAC50-regulated Fe insufficiency response. Interestingly, the expression of NINE-CIS-EPOXYCAROTENOID DIOXYGENASE 3 (NCED3), a key enzyme in the abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthetic pathway, was down-regulated in the Fe-deficient nac50 mutants, resulting in decreased endogenous ABA level and Fe-deficient sensitive phenotype. Since no direct relationship was observed between NAC50 and NCED3, this suggests a potential role of NAC50 in mediating the ABA accumulation. Moreover, exogenous ABA application in the nac50 mutant restored Fe deficiency resistance to the level observed in wild-type plants (WT), indicating that NAC50 induced the cell wall Fe reutilization potentially through the regulation of ABA accumulation., (© 2025 Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society.)
