Introdução: O transplante de órgãos e tecidos desempenha um papel fundamental no tratamento de doenças crônicas avançadas. No Brasil, essa área tem registrado um crescimento significativo, impulsionado pela pesquisa científica e pelo aumento do número de procedimentos. O Brazilian Journal of Transplantation (BJT) tem um papel fundamental na disseminação do conhecimento nesta área de pesquisa. Objetivos: Realizar uma análise bibliométrica abrangente dos artigos publicados no BJT para identificar tendências e características dos artigos relacionados ao transplante de órgãos e tecidos. Métodos: Foi realizada uma análise bibliométrica dos artigos relacionados ao transplante de órgãos e tecidos publicados no BJT no período de 2005 a 2023. Foram coletados e analisados dados referentes ao ano de publicação, número de autores, sexo do primeiro e do último autor, país e região do primeiro autor, tipo de transplante abordado, tipo de estudo e metodologia empregada. Resultados: Foram analisados 433 artigos relacionados ao transplante de órgãos e tecidos no BJT. Os artigos relacionados ao transplante hepático foram os mais prevalentes (29,1%), seguidos pelo transplante renal (28,6%). Os estudos originais foram os mais frequentes (58,4%), seguidos das revisões (21,7%). Entre os estudos originais, os observacionais retrospectivos representaram 46,6%. Quanto à representação por sexo, as mulheres foram primeiras autoras em 59,6% das publicações e últimas em 46,7%. A Região Sudeste representou 53,2% do total de publicações de autores brasileiros, sendo o estado de São Paulo responsável por 42,7% das publicações nacionais. Conclusão: Nosso estudo fornece informações valiosas sobre o desenvolvimento e a distribuição da pesquisa em transplantes no Brasil. Destaca áreas que necessitam de atenção e intervenção, como a promoção de colaborações inter-regionais, investimentos em infraestrutura em regiões menos desenvolvidas e iniciativas para garantir equidade de gênero na pesquisa médica.

Abstract Background Pediatric obesity is a global emerging burden for society; among its health-related consequences there are hypertension (HTN) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Several anthropometric indices have been investigated for the early identification of cardiovascular risk in children. The aim of the present study was to assess whether tri-ponderal mass index (TMI) was associated with LVH in a cohort of Caucasian children and adolescents with obesity. Methods In this observational study, 63 children and adolescents with obesity aged 7-to-16 years were enrolled. During outpatient visits, adiposity, and cardio-metabolic indices (BMI z-score, WHR, TMI, ABSI) were collected. All subjects underwent a 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and transthoracic echocardiography. Results Children and adolescents with obesity with LVH had significantly higher BMI z-score (p = 0.009), WHR (p = 0.006) and TMI (p = 0.026) compared to children without LVH. WC and WHR were the only indices significantly associated with left ventricular mass index (LVMI). Conclusion Left ventricular remodeling is associated with the cardio-metabolic risk markers WC and WHR, but not with the adiposity index TMI among children with obesity.

Abstract Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is usually asymptomatic, and its diagnosis depends on laboratory tests, with emphasis on serum creatinine and proteinuria. Objective: To assess knowledge on the role of serum creatinine as a biomarker of kidney function in a sample of the Brazilian population. Method: Cross-sectional observational study conducted in São Paulo (SP, Brazil), in which a random adult population was interviewed. Results: A total of 1138 subjects were interviewed, with a median age of 36 years old (27–52); 55.1% were female. Regarding the “creatinine” biomarker, 40.6% stated they had never performed such a test. When asked about their knowledge on the usefulness of this exam, only 19.6% knew its function. The other responses were “I don’t know” (71.6%), evaluating heart function (0.9%) and liver function (7.8%). Of those who reported they had already taken a creatinine test, only 29.4% correctly identified the role of creatinine. When dividing the groups into “knows” and “does not know” the function of creatinine, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed regarding level of education, female sex, being a healthcare student/worker, having ever measured creatinine, knowing someone with kidney disease and older age. In the multivariate analysis, the main variable related to knowing the creatinine role was having previously taken the test (OR 5.16; 95% CI 3.16–8.43, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant lack of knowledge about creatinine and its use in checkups. The results indicate that greater efforts are needed from healthcare professionals to raise awareness on the role of serum creatinine.

Recently, digitized-counterdiabatic (CD) quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) has been proposed to make QAOA converge to the solution of an optimization problem in fewer steps, inspired by Trotterized CD driving in continuous-time quantum annealing. In this paper, we critically revisit this approach by focusing on the paradigmatic weighted and unweighted one-dimensional MaxCut problem. We study two variants of QAOA with first and second-order CD corrections. Our results show that, indeed, higher order CD corrections allow for a quicker convergence to the exact solution of the problem at hand by increasing the complexity of the variational cost function. Remarkably, however, the total number of free parameters needed to achieve this result is independent of the particular QAOA variant analyzed for the problems considered.

Introduction: Transbronchial lung cryobiopsy has been recommended as an acceptable alternative to surgical approach for making a histopathological diagnosis in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) of undetermined type. In limited diseases (especially if distributed along the subpleural region), sampling the specific area in which the pathological process is more represented could be challenging. Aim of the study was to determine the potential benefit of utilizing cone-beam computed tomography-guided cryobiopsy in patients with limited extent of ILD on CT scan and determine the single impact of each sequential biopsy progressively increasing the total number of biopsies. Methods: This study is a prospective analysis of patients with undetermined ILD and CT scan extent <15% undergoing cone-beam CT-guided cryobiopsy. Each biopsy sample was collected and processed individually and pathologic interpretations were performed sequentially with the pathologist reformulating a new report with the addition of each sample (cumulative yield). Results: Thirty six patients were enrolled. Pathological diagnostic yield was >90%, with almost 80% of diagnostic samples being the first one; when a second biopsy was performed, mean diagnostic yield increased with only a moderately significant difference. No severe adverse events were observed; pneumothorax was documented in 27.8% of the cases. Conclusion: Sequential individual collection and pathologic interpretation of each biopsy sample has confirmed the possibility of obtaining a diagnostic specimen at the first pass if transbronchial cryobiopsy is performed under cone-beam CT. The objective of these Guidelines is to provide recommendations for the classification, indication, treatment and management of patients suffering from aneurysmal pathology of the visceral and renal arteries. The methodology applied was the GRADE-SIGN version, and followed the instructions of the AGREE quality of reporting checklist. Clinical questions, structured according to the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome) model, were formulated, and systematic literature reviews were carried out according to them. Selected articles were evaluated through specific methodological checklists. Considered Judgments were compiled for each clinical question in which the characteristics of the body of available evidence were evaluated in order to establish recommendations. Overall, 79 clinical practice recommendations were proposed. Indications for treatment and therapeutic options were discussed for each arterial district, as well as follow-up and medical management, in both candidate patients for conservative therapy and patients who underwent treatment. The recommendations provided by these guidelines simplify and improve decision-making processes and diagnostic-therapeutic pathways of patients with visceral and renal arteries aneurysms. Their widespread use is recommended.
