Abstract Most modern catalysts are based on precious metals and rear-earth elements, making some of organic synthesis reactions economically insolvent. Density functional theory calculations are used here to describe several differently oriented surfaces of the higher tungsten boride WB5-x, together with their catalytic activity for the CO oxidation reaction. Based on our findings, WB5-x appears to be an efficient alternative catalyst for CO oxidation. Calculated surface energies allow the use of the Wulff construction to determine the equilibrium shape of WB5-x particles. It is found that the (010) and (101) facets terminated by boron and tungsten, respectively, are the most exposed surfaces for which the adsorption of different gaseous agents (CO, CO2, H2, N2, O2, NO, NO2, H2O, NH3, SO2) is evaluated to reveal promising prospects for applications. CO oxidation on B-rich (010) and W-rich (101) surfaces is further investigated by analyzing the charge redistribution during the adsorption of CO and O2 molecules. It is found that CO oxidation has relatively low energy barriers. The implications of the present results, the effects of WB5-x on CO oxidation and potential application in the automotive, chemical, and mining industries are discussed.

Background. Free perforating flaps are the most optimal for reconstruction of both upper and lower extremities. However, along with the obvious advantages of these flaps, there are also a number of difficulties associated with their more complex vascular anatomy and, as a consequence, more time-consuming dissection. This determines the need for a more thorough preoperative planning, including the mapping of perforating vessels and development of flap design. At the same time, the problems with intraoperative assessment of perfusion of perforating flaps and their monitoring in the postoperative period have not been solved. For these purposes, several instrumental methods of examination such as MRI and CT angiography, Doppler sonography, ICG and dynamic infrared thermography are used. Aim of the study — to evaluate the capabilities of dynamic infrared thermography (DIT) for mapping of perforating vessels when planning the design of perforating flaps, as well as for assessing their intra- and postoperative perfusion. Methods. We have analyzed the results of using DIT along with CT-angiography and Doppler sonography for preliminary mapping of perforating vessels in the design of 18 perforating flaps (ALT flap — 10, SCIP flap — 8) transplanted in 15 patients from 01.01.2022 to 30.07.2022. DIT was also used in all cases for intraoperative instrumental confirmation of flap perfusion and for its monitoring in the postoperative period. Results. A total of 39 perforating vessels were detected by CT angiography at the point of origin from the main arteries. DIT was used to detect the distal portions of 37 perforating vessels in 15 patients at the marking of 18 flaps. On average, 2.5 per ALT flap and 1.4 per SCIP flap. Thermographic examination time was approximately 10 minutes. Localization of all perforating vessels detected by DIT were first confirmed by Doppler sonography and then visualized intraoperatively during flap dissection. Intraoperatively, perfusion of all transplanted flaps was clearly confirmed by DIT. In the postoperative period, perfusion problems were clinically detected in 3 (16%) flaps and confirmed by DIT: venous stasis — 2 cases, arterial insufficiency — 1 case. In two patients (13%) with a body mass index of more than 35 (corresponding to class 2–3 obesity), the location of perforating vessels could not be determined by thermography and Doppler sonography. Also, in these patients DIT was ineffective for confirmation of flap perfusion intraoperatively and in the postoperative period. Conclusion. This study confirms that CT angiography, Doppler sonography and infrared thermography are complementary methods that allow to detect and visualize perforating arteries from their origin from a main artery to the site of their passage through the deep fascia (CT-angiography), as well as to determine their more accurate projection on the skin surface (DIT and Doppler sonography). DIT is also an auxiliary method for flap monitoring in the intraoperative and postoperative periods, which allows to engage nursing staff in postoperative monitoring.

The current stage of development of international trade relations is followed by a growing protectionism. At the same time, the ideas of free trade and fair competition are still declared as key principles for the development of the world economy. One of the authors of these principles, as well as the entire modern system of international trade relations, is the USA. In this context, the possible refusal of the USA to comply with these principles is a serious challenge for the existing system of international trade. The author tries to answer the question if some measures of the US trade and industrial policy correspond to the basic principles of the international trade system. As an empirical basis there were used the works of Russian and foreign economists specializing in trade policy, international economic relations and the US economy. To answer the stated question about the compliance of the US trade and industrial policy with the principles of free trade and fair competition, the author uses methods of analysis and generalization to assess the nature of certain measures and mechanisms implemented in the US trade and industry. The author comes to conclusion about the protectionist nature of several legal acts and mechanisms of the US trade and industrial policy. Considering that not only certain legal acts, but also industrial programs are protectionist in nature, it should be assumed that retreat from the principles of free trade and fair competition is an element of the US position on the development of the national economy as well as international trade. The USA takes advantage of the imperfections of the existing system of international economic relations, demonstrating the use of protectionist measures contrary to the principles of free trade and fair competition.

The departmental personnel training system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has significant experience in training specialists in various educational programs in the field of information security. Over the past decade, due to various factors, significant changes have taken place in this area, particularly in its state regulation based directive provisions for the Russian Information Security Doctrine. And they have also given a new impetus to the actualization and adaptation of these changes in existing educational programs. Such work is being carried out «on a broad front» by Russian universities subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, within the framework of the Educational and Methodological Association of the same name. There is also an obvious need to solve this problem at the departmental level, in particular, within the framework of the personnel training system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. This paper presents the results of the pre-design survey, which is a part of the relevant educational programs developed on the basis of federal educational standards. Based on this survey, it is planned to further develop and implement measures to improve the quality of training in the field of managing information infrastructure security for Russian internal affairs authorities. The object of the study is to improve the quality of this process in the field of managing the security of the information for the Department of Internal Affairs. In order to achieve qualification requirements for certain categories within the internal affairs bodies, the article examines the domestic experience of leading Russian and international universities in educational training of specialists in the field of information security. The basis for the formulation of proposals for the modernization of the variable part of educational programs for the training of specialists in the protection of the information infrastructure of internal affairs authorities is the experience of designing domestic professional standards for the protection of information and individual foreign initiatives.

Providing good quality water in sufficient quantities is a major challenge in the world. The purpose of the study is to assess the quality of drinking water and the health risk of various population groups in the southern Baikal region (Siberia, Russia) under changing hydrological conditions. Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater body of water and is one of the sites protected by UNESCO. Materials and methods. An analysis of centralized and non-centralized water supply was carried out in the south-eastern part of the Irkutsk region, adjacent to Lake Baikal. The data used are from the Baikal (regional) Information Center for 2011–2022, and they include the results of monitoring the water quality of the centralized domestic and drinking water supply (CDW) with 140 thousand samples, and non-centralized domestic and drinking water supply (NDW) with 108 thousand samples. In all samples, 17 substances were determined. In addition, during the flood period, accompanied by additional water disinfection, trihalomethanes were determined in populated areas exposed to negative impacts. The quality of drinking water was assessed in comparison with the maximum permissible concentrations of substances (MPCs) approved by regulatory documents of Russia. An assessment of the characteristics of drinking water consumption by the population of the Baikal region was carried out, based on interview data from sample groups of the population. The assessment of the risk to public health, due to chronic oral intake of chemicals, was carried out using the values of the hazard coefficient (HQi), the hazard index (HI), individual carcinogenic risk (ICR), and population carcinogenic risk (PCR).Village residents more often use underground water sources (centralized and non-centralized). Residents of cities are provided with water from surface sources (Lake Baikal and the Angara River). Significant concentrations of iron, nitrates, and manganese were found in drinking water used by villagers. Average concentrations of iron - 2.25 mg/dl, manganese - 0.6 mg/dl, nitrates - 135 mg/dl were recorded in the water of underground springs in villages of the Irkutsk region. Among rural residents of the Irkutsk region, 60.8 % live in settlements with non-water supply systems, 28.4 % have mixed water supply.The non-carcinogenic risk for the adult and child population was calculated; HI > 1 was identified for the population using underground water sources. the non-carcinogenic hazard for the adult population, it was found that HI in the Irkutsk region slightly exceeded the standard value (1), amounting to 1.3, and for the child population - 1.6, the main contribution to the hazard index is represented by nitrates. For children of individual rural settlements of the Angarsk region HI = 1.38. The carcinogenic risk for water from underground sources reached in the range 1.56 × 10−5- 2.1 × 10−4 (in some settlements). Priority carcinogens were identified: arsenic (the contribution of which is 56.3–100 %), hexavalent chromium (29.9–35.8 %). A carcinogenic risk for city residents arises from increased disinfection during periods of microbiological contamination (floods, rains, high water levels), and it is associated with the formation of halogen-containing compounds. Conclusion: The need to strengthen the drinking water quality monitoring system in risk areas has been proven by increasing the number and frequency of sampling during flood periods.

Since genetic mutations during brain development play a significant role in the genesis of epilepsy, and such genetically determined epilepsies are the most difficult to treat, there is a need to study the mechanisms of epilepsy development with deletions of various transcription factors. We utilized heterozygous mice (Sip1wt/fl) with a neuronal deletion of the transcription factor Sip1 (Smad interacting protein 1) in the cerebral cortex. These mice are characterized by cognitive impairment and are prone to epilepsy. It is known that the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has a neuroprotective effect in various neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, we created and applied an adeno-associated construct carrying the BDNF sequence selectively in neurons. Using in vitro and in vivo research models, we were able to identify a key gen, the disruption of whose expression accompanies the deletion of Sip1 and contributes to hyperexcitation of neurons in the cerebral cortex. Overexpression of BDNF in cortical neurons eliminated epileptiform activity in neurons obtained from heterozygous Sip1 mice in a magnesium-free model of epileptiform activity (in vitro). Using PCR analysis, it was possible to identify correlations in the expression profile of genes encoding key proteins responsible for neurotransmission and neuronal survival. The effects of BDNF overexpression on the expression profiles of these genes were also revealed. Using BDNF overexpression in cortical neurons of heterozygous Sip1 mice, it was possible to achieve 100% survival in the pilocarpine model of epilepsy. At the level of gene expression in the cerebral cortex, patterns were established that may be involved in the protection of brain cells from epileptic seizures and the restoration of cognitive functions in mice with Sip1 deletion.

Background/Objectives: Adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) are widely used as viral vectors for gene delivery in mammalian cells. We focused on the efficacy of the transduction of AAV2/5, 2/6, 2/8 and 2/9 expressing GFP in preadipocyte cells by live imaging microscopy using IncuCyte S3 and flow cytometry. Methods: Three transduction modes in 3T3-L1 preadipocyte cells assessed: AAV transduction in 3T3-L1 preadipocyte cells, transduction with further differentiation into mature adipocyte-like cells and the transduction of differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes. For the in vivo study, we injected AAV2/6, AAV2/8 and AAV2/9 in adipose tissue of C57BL6 mice, and the transduction capacity of AAV2/6, along with AAV2/8 and AAV2/9 was evaluated. Results: AAV2/6 demonstrated the highest transduction efficiency in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, as it was 1.5–2-fold more effective than AAV2/5, and AAV2/8 in the range of viral concentrations from 2 × 104 to 1.6 × 105 VG/cell. AAV2/5 and AAV2/8 showed transduction efficiencies similar to each other. The expression of GFP under the CMV promoter remained stable for up to 20 days. The induction of 3T3-L1 differentiation in three days after AAV transduction did not alter the GFP expression level, and AAV2/6 showed the best transduction efficiency. AAV2/6 demonstrated the ability to transduce mature adipocytes. These results were confirmed by in vivo studies on C57BL6 mice. AAV2/6 had the highest transducing activity on both inguinal and interscapular adipose tissue. Conclusions: Thus, AAV2/6 has demonstrated higher transduction efficacy compared to AAV2/5, AAV2/8 and AAV2/9 both in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and adipose tissue in vivo, which proves its usability along with AAV2/8 and AAV2/9 for gene delivery to adipocytes.

Relevance. Mechanical vibrations are a common and technically important process that has a negative acoustic effect on human health and in some cases is a harmful production factor. In devices, the presence of vibration is caused by exciting influences of various physical nature: mechanical, electromagnetic, aerodynamic. The reason for their occurrence are defects in parts and assemblies, the technical principle of the ball bearing device, as well as the coincidence of the operating frequency of the device with natural frequency of the structural elements. Since it is technically impossible to completely eliminate the vibration activity of an electromechanical device, the actual topic of scientific research is the technical task of developing a damping device with determining its effectiveness to reduce the vibration activity of an electromechanical device, thereby minimizing the effects of concomitant harmful production factors on humans. To study this problem, a 3D model of the construction of a solid-state damper based on aluminum foam has been developed, according to which two layouts are made with different depths of cylindrical ducts used to install screws. The results of measuring vibration characteristics showed that the material used as a vibration dampener has damping properties and can be used to reduce the level of vibration activity of an electromechanical device. A comparison of the test results of the solid-state damper layouts showed that using layout No. 1 reduces the vibration amplitude up to 3 times compared with layout No. 2. Object. To develop a design for a solid-state damper based on aluminum foam and determine the effectiveness of its use to reduce the level of vibration activity of an electromechanical device of the life support system of oil and gas stations. Methods. Modern approaches of vibration diagnostics, computational mathematics and measuring instruments. Results. There is a possibility of creating a solid-state damper based on aluminum foam to solve the problems of reducing the amplitude of vibration in the operating frequency range of the rotor of an electromechanical device compared with the corresponding vibration characteristics without damping elements.

In orbital and ground-based experiments, it has been demonstrated that ionizing radiation (IR) can stimulate the locomotor and exploratory activity of rodents, but the underlying mechanism of this phenomenon remains undisclosed. Here, we studied the effect of combined IR (0.4 Gy γ-rays and 0.14 Gy carbon-12 nuclei) on the locomotor and exploratory activity of rats, and assessed the sensorimotor cortex volume by magnetic resonance imaging-based morphometry at 1 week and 7 months post-irradiation. The sensorimotor cortex tissues were processed to determine whether the behavioral and morphologic effects were associated with changes in neurotrophin content. The irradiated rats were characterized by increased locomotor and exploratory activity, as well as novelty-seeking behavior, at 3 days post-irradiation. At the same time, only unirradiated rats experienced a significant decrease in the sensorimotor cortex volume at 7 months. While there were no significant differences at 1 week, at 7 months, the irradiated rats were characterized by higher neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4 content in the sensorimotor cortex. Thus, IR prevents the age-associated decrease in the sensorimotor cortex volume, which is associated with neurotrophic and neurogenic changes. Meanwhile, IR-induced increases in locomotor activity may be the cause of the observed changes.

• Tested the effect of ozone disinfection on blood, saliva, and semen stains. • Ozone decreased the sensitivity of luminol and immunoassay tests of diluted blood. • It lowered the sensitivity of STK Lab and PSA immunoassay of diluted seminal fluid. • Ozone treatment did not affect microscopic identification of spermatozoa. • Ozone disinfection is not recommended with saliva stains. Good laboratory practice minimizes the biological hazard posed by potentially infectious casework samples. In certain scenarios, when the casework sample is contaminated with highly contagious pathogens, additional safety procedures such as disinfection might be advised. It was previously proven that ozone gas treatment does not hamper STR analysis, but there is no data on how the disinfection affects other steps of the forensic analysis. In this study, we aimed to assess the interference of ozone disinfection with forensic tests used to identify biological stains. A dilution series of blood, saliva, and semen samples were pipetted onto cotton fabric and let completely dry. Half of the samples were subjected to ozone treatment, while the rest served as controls. All the samples were tested with specific lateral flow immunochromatographic assays and for specific RNA markers with quantitative real-time PCR. Additionally, luminol test was carried out on blood spots, Phadebas® Amylase Test on saliva stains, and semen stains were examined with STK Lab kit and light microscope following Christmas Tree or Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. Ozone treatment had no detrimental effect on the microscopic identification of sperm cells. Undiluted blood samples were detected with luminol and immunoassay, but at higher dilution, the sensitivity of the test decreased after disinfection. The same decrease in sensitivity was observed in the detection of semen stains using STK Lab kit from STK® Sperm Tracker, and in the case of the immunoassay specific for prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Ozone treatment almost completely inhibited the enzymatic activity of amylase. The sensitivity of antibody-based detection of amylase was also greatly reduced. RNA markers showed degradation but remained detectable in blood and semen samples after incubation in the presence of ozone. The elementary jumps in the electron current through conducting filaments of two nanometer-sized virtual memristor structures consisting of a contact of a conductive atomic force microscope probe to the Si3N4 layer with the thickness of 6 nm deposited onto the n + + -Si(001) conductive substrates are investigated. These structures are: (S1) the Si3N4/Si film; (S2) the Si3N4/SiO2/Si stack, a similar structure with 2 nm SiO2 sublayer between the film and the substrate. Usually, such investigations are performed by the analysis of the waveform of this current with the aim of extracting the random telegraph noise (RTN). Here, we develop a new indirect method, which is based on the measurement of the spectrum of the low-frequency flicker noise in the current without extracting the RTN. We propose that the flicker noise is caused by the motion (drift/diffusion) of nitrogen ions via vacancies within and around the filament. The number of these ions is estimated by taking into account the geometrical parameters of the filament. This allows us to estimate the root mean square magnitude i 0 of the current jumps, which are caused by random jumps of nitrogen ions, and the number M of these ions. This is fundamental for understanding the elementary mechanisms of the electron current flowing through the filament and the resistive switching in memristor devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Postural control is dependent on the central nervous system’s accurate interpretation of sensory information to formulate and execute adequate motor actions. Research has shown that cognitive functions are associated with both postural control and fall risk, but specific associations are not established. The aim of this study was to explore how specific components of everyday postural control tasks are associated with both general and specific cognitive functions. Methods Forty-six community-dwelling older adults reported their age, sex, physical activity level, falls and fall-related concerns. The following cognitive aspects were assessed: global cognition, executive functions, processing speed and intraindividual variability. Postural control was quantified by measuring postural sway in quiet stance, walking at a self-selected pace, and walking while performing a concurrent arithmetical task. Separate orthogonal projections of latent structures models were generated for each postural control outcome using descriptive and cognitive variables as explanatory variables. Results Longer step length and faster gait speed were related to faster processing speed and less intraindividual variability in the choice reaction test. Moreover, longer step length was also related to less fall-related concerns and less severe fall-related injuries, while faster gait speed was also related to female sex and poorer global cognition. Lower dual-task cost for gait speed was explained by the executive function inhibition and faster processing speed. Postural sway in quiet stance was not explained by cognitive functions. Conclusions Cognitive functions explained gait speed and step length during normal walking, as well as the decrease of gait speed while performing a concurrent cognitive task. The results suggest that different cognitive processes are important for different postural control aspects. Postural sway in quiet stance, step time and gait variability seem to depend more on physical and automatic processes rather than higher cognitive functions among physically active older people. The relationships between cognitive functions and postural control likely vary depending on the specific tasks and the characteristics of different populations.

The war in Ukraine has had a destructive effect on the economic activity of road transport companies, the organization of their financial relations, the management of financial resources, and, therefore, on the financial mechanism. The article aims to reveal the essence of the financial mechanism of road transport companies in the financial management system. The authors investigated and summarized the main approaches to revealing the essence of the financial mechanism. It was found that the financial mechanism is considered 1) a means of influence and 2) a financial management system. The article defines financial mechanism taking into account the purpose and principles of the functioning of state finances and the finances of economic entities in combination with the final results achieved through financial support and financial regulation – functions that create a relationship between the financial mechanisms of the micro and macro level in the system financial management. In addition, an essential component of the financial mechanism is a system of financial instruments and indicators of primary (national and local taxes and fees, a single contribution, etc.) and secondary influence (subsidies, bank loans, etc.), thanks to which its primary functions are realized. The authors propose considering the financial mechanism of road transport companies in the financial management system in a broad and narrow sense. In a broad sense, the financial mechanism of road transport companies manages financial resources. In a narrow sense, the financial mechanism of road transport companies is connected, firstly, with the internal option, which concerns the organization of financial relations, and, secondly, with the external option, which involves a set of forms and methods of external and internal influence for the formation, accumulation and use of financial resources. The results of the study show that although the financial mechanism of road transport companies has its characteristics, it is interconnected with the financial mechanism of the state. So, any changes in the latter will affect the components of the first.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral vasospasm is a serious sequela of traumatic brain injury (TBI) which leads to further neurologic injury subsequent to the initial trauma. The natural history and associated risk factors are not well understood. The objective of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiographic characteristics of patients with TBI. METHODS: This is a descriptive case series of all patients with TBI who underwent cerebral angiogram for evaluation and rescue therapy for posttraumatic arterial vasospasm (PTV) between October 2017 and November 2019. The association of clinical and radiographic characteristics with cumulative severity of angiographic vasospasm was evaluated. The clinical characteristics comprised of age, sex, Glascow Coma Scale (GCS) and need for surgery. The radiographic characteristics were presence of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), location of SAH, presence of contusion, presence of subdural hemorrhage (SDH), and presence of pseudoaneurysm. RESULTS: Twenty-two patients with PTV were identified requiring 69 cerebral angiograms (mean: 3.2; range: 1–9 angiograms per patient) during this period. The average age upon presentation was 40 years old, 81% of the patients were male sex, and the average GCS was 6.8. 67% of the patients underwent craniotomy or craniectomy. All patients had SAH, although only 60% had cisternal SAH. Parenchymal contusion was noted on 90% as well as SDH in 90%. The PTV was noted between 3 and 19 days after trauma. There was more vasospasm involving proximal arteries and higher severity of vasospasm in patients with cisternal SAH. Otherwise, there was no strong association between the clinical or radiographic characteristics and cumulative severity noted on the angiograms for each patient. CONCLUSION: Posttraumatic vasospasm can be detected as early as posttrauma day 3–19 in patients with TBI and SAH. The absence of cisternal SAH does not rule out the occurrence of the vasospasm during the course of treatment.

Purpose: The outcome after a distal radius fracture (DRF) is often evaluated with radiography, clinical examination, and patient-reported outcome measures. However, research has identified associations between psychological factors and outcomes after a DRF. A knowledge gap exists about psychological factors and their potential implications for long-term outcomes after a DRF. The aim of this study was to examine the long-term association between psychological factors and patient-reported outcomes. Methods: This multicenter investigation included patients aged 15–75 years with closed physes presenting with an acute DRF. Patients who completed a long-term follow-up (after 11–13 years) with patient-reported outcome measures were invited to participate in the study, and surveys measuring psychological factors were sent to the patients. Results: Two hundred and four patients (70%) completed the follow-up (mean [range] age at injury, 56 [18–75] years; 154 were females [75%]). Multivariable analysis showed that higher age, injury to the dominant hand, and greater pain catastrophizing were associated with an increase in scores on the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire. Conclusions: A decade after sustaining a DRF, patients with higher scores on the Pain Catastrophizing Scale reported inferior outcomes as measured by the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand. The Pain Catastrophizing Scale accounts for 13% of the observed variance in Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand. Type of study/level of evidence: Therapeutic level IIb.

Abstract A genomic database of all Earth’s eukaryotic species could contribute to many scientific discoveries; however, only a tiny fraction of species have genomic information available. In 2018, scientists across the world united under the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), aiming to produce a database of high-quality reference genomes containing all ~1.5 million recognized eukaryotic species. As the European node of the EBP, the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) sought to implement a new decentralised, equitable and inclusive model for producing reference genomes. For this, ERGA launched a Pilot Project establishing the first distributed reference genome production infrastructure and testing it on 98 eukaryotic species from 33 European countries. Here we outline the infrastructure and explore its effectiveness for scaling high-quality reference genome production, whilst considering equity and inclusion. The outcomes and lessons learned provide a solid foundation for ERGA while offering key learnings to other transnational, national genomic resource projects and the EBP.

Abstract Metabolic syndrome is a growing concern in developed societies and due to its polygenic nature, the genetic component is only slowly being elucidated. Common mitochondrial DNA sequence variants have been associated with symptoms of metabolic syndrome and may, therefore, be relevant players in the genetics of metabolic syndrome. We investigate the effect of mitochondrial sequence variation on the metabolic phenotype in conplastic rat strains with identical nuclear but unique mitochondrial genomes, challenged by high-fat diet. We find that the variation in mitochondrial rRNA sequence represents risk factor in the insulin resistance development, which is associated with diacylglycerols accumulation, induced by tissue-specific reduction of the oxidative capacity. These metabolic perturbations stem from the 12S rRNA sequence variation affecting mitochondrial ribosome assembly and translation. Our work demonstrates that physiological variation in mitochondrial rRNA might represent a relevant underlying factor in the progression of metabolic syndrome.

The contemporary information landscape is characterised by a huge amount of data available for analysis using a variety of research tools and methods. Considering the limitations of using individual models and methods, it is worth employing an approach that combines functional and logical autoregression methods to conduct a more accurate analysis of trends and topics in the information space. Considering this context, this work aims to develop an algorithm to identify and analyse topics that would be relevant in the future using autoregression methods. The process begins with the quantification and normalisation of data, which significantly affect the quality of analysis. The main focus of this study is to implement the autoregression method to analyse long-term trends and predict future developments in the selected data. The proposed algorithm evaluates the forecast of these future developments and analyses graphical trends, thus conducting a more detailed study and modelling of future data dynamics. The regression coefficient is used as a quality criterion. The algorithm concludes with a polynomial function to help identify topics that will be relevant in the future. Overall, the proposed algorithm can be considered an effective tool for analysing and predicting future trends based on the analysis of historical data, thus contributing to the identification of prospects for technological development.

Introduction. For handling the problem of mixtures design for additive construction technologies, the paper presents the results of experimental studies of rheological behavior and production characteristics (plasticity and shape stability) of cement mixtures based on various types of fillers with different size, shape, and grade. Methods and materials. Rheological properties of 3Dprintable mixtures were investigated using squeezing rheometry methods. The constant strain rate mode of 5 mm/s was used to evaluate plasticity and the constant load rate of 5 N/s was used to evaluate form stability. Scanning electron microscopy method (Phenom XL) was used to evaluate the size-geometry characteristics of cement and filler particles. Image processing to determine particle length and width was performed using ParticleMetric software. The size and gradation of the cement and filler particles were evaluated using a laser particle size analyser “Analyzette 22”. Results and discussion. It was found that a necessary condition for the plasticity and stability of mixtures is the creation of dense spatial packing of disperse phase particles. The values of the plasticity limit rational for extrusion are ensured if the filler particles have a size comparable to cement particles and multi-size gradation. The characteristics of the fillers are not decisive for the shape stability of the mixtures. Conclusion. The numerical criteria of fillers for design of 3D-printable mixtures have been substantiated, including mean average particle diameter, particle shape factor, particle distribution constant as a characteristic of the particle size gradation.

Abstract The subset of ovarian cancer (OC) diagnosed ≤ 30yo represents a distinct subgroup exhibiting disparities from late-onset OC in many aspects, including indefinite germline cancer predisposition. We performed DNA/RNA-WES with HLA-typing, PRS assessment and survival analysis in 123 early-onset OC-patients compared to histology/stage-matched late-onset and unselected OC-patients, and population-matched controls. Only 6/123(4.9%) early-onset OC-patients carried a germline pathogenic variant (GPV) in high-penetrance OC-predisposition genes. Nevertheless, our comprehensive germline analysis of early-onset OC-patients revealed two divergent trajectories of potential germline susceptibility. Firstly, overrepresentation analysis highlighted a connection to breast cancer (BC) that was supported by the CHEK2 GPV enrichment in early-onset OC(p = 1.2 × 10–4), and the presumably BC-specific PRS313, which successfully stratified early-onset OC-patients from controls(p = 0.03). The second avenue pointed towards the impaired immune response, indicated by LY75-CD302 GPV(p = 8.3 × 10–4) and diminished HLA diversity compared with controls(p = 3 × 10–7). Furthermore, we found a significantly higher overall GPV burden in early-onset OC-patients compared to controls(p = 3.8 × 10–4). The genetic predisposition to early-onset OC appears to be a heterogeneous and complex process that goes beyond the traditional Mendelian monogenic understanding of hereditary cancer predisposition, with a significant role of the immune system. We speculate that rather a cumulative overall GPV burden than specific GPV may potentially increase OC risk, concomitantly with reduced HLA diversity.

The study is dedicated dynamics of groundwater quality in the Mykolaiv region (Ukraine) during the period from 2021 to 2024. It was determined that the concentration of chlorides, sulfates, and mineralization in water in 2022 increased by 2-3 times (1190 mg/dm3) compared to 2021 (453 mg/dm3), which is due to the use of sea water in the central water supply and the consequences of a man-made disaster that arose under the influence of military operations. Trends in changes in water quality depending on the season and the influence of various factors on the geochemical composition of underground water resources are analyzed. The results obtained indicate a change in groundwater quality. According to the water quality classification according to the Water Pollution Index (WPI), the observed trend indicates a transition from water of quality class II, characterized as "clean water", to water of quality class III, which reflects a moderate level of pollution.

Partial replacement of traditional types of fuel, which in the world and in Ukraine, is possible with the use of biomass of plant origin. A perennial cereal plant called switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is promising for the production of biofuel, the seeds of which are characterized by a high biological dormancy, which leads to a significant decrease in its germination. Therefore, it is urgent to conduct a study to reduce this state of dormancy, which will ensure an increase in seed germination and contribute to the widespread introduction of the culture into production. Laboratory and mathematical and statistical methods were used in the research. Dormancy can be broken in various ways, but most of them are based on the creation of stressful conditions during the period of seed germination or before its germination. One of the ways to reduce dormancy is the term and conditions in which the seed is located. In order to find out the effect of conditions and storage time on seed quality, a three-factor experiment was conducted in which two varieties of switchgrass of different maturity groups were stored for 364 days under different conditions that are possible when sowing seeds in the field - variable temperatures and humidity, the time of seed storage in such conditions. It has been found that the conditions of seed storage – temperature, humidity and terms, especially their complex interaction, probably affect the improvement of its quality. At a seed moisture content of 9 % and 24-26 % at an air temperature of 18-20 0С, during storage for 180 days, a probable increase in the energy of germination of the Cave-in-Rock variety sample by 11-20 %, germination – by 13-21 %, of the Dakota variety sample, respectively – by 22-19 % and 24-31 %. Researching the causes of dormancy and developing ways to reduce it and increase seed germination will contribute to the introduction of switchgrass from the cultivation of bio-raw materials for the production of biofuel, which has scientific and practical significance.

The publishing industry of the world’s developed countries is not only an important component of ideo- logical, political, and cultural influence on society but also a significant part of filling the state treasury. The purpose of the proposed article is a retrospective analysis of the global book publishing industry and its development in accordance with various statistical accounting systems against the background of Ukrainian realities. The main tasks of the research were to show the current state of the book publishing industry of Ukraine, to analyze the modern systems of the world statistical accounting of books and, in accordance with them, the generalized results of activity over the past five years. The methodological basis was the source analysis, based on a complex of general scientific and special methods and approaches. To analyze the results of the publishing activity of different countries, mathematical statistics and analogy, in combination with deductive and inductive methods of scientific knowledge, were used. The article’s scientific novelty is the search for the optimal form of organization of statistical accounting of publishing products, which would allow analyzing the industry’s real state, its achievements, and gaps. The conducted research determines that currently there is no complete statistical database of the results of the global publishing industry. The existing accounting system of publishing products in Ukraine does not meet the set tasks and can only serve as a tangential, clarifying or checking element. The most optimal organization of information collection is based on the number of books sold and the income received. This practice has already been developed in certain countries, particularly in ten countries cared for by the Nielsen BookScan company, which collects information directly at the points of sale. It was also concluded that the publishing industries of post-socialist countries are significantly behind their counterparts in the countries of the developed world. The processes that take place in the modern publishing field are fast-moving and require the constant attention of scientists.

Abstract Background Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) are glucose-lowering agents used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, which also improve heart failure and decrease the risk of cardiovascular complications. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) dysfunction was suggested to contribute to the development of heart failure. We aimed to elucidate a possible role of changes in EAT metabolic and inflammatory profile in the beneficial cardioprotective effects of SGLT-2i in subjects with severe heart failure. Methods 26 subjects with severe heart failure, with reduced ejection fraction, treated with SGLT-2i versus 26 subjects without treatment, matched for age (54.0 ± 2.1 vs. 55.3 ± 2.1 years, n.s.), body mass index (27.8 ± 0.9 vs. 28.8 ± 1.0 kg/m2, n.s.) and left ventricular ejection fraction (20.7 ± 0.5 vs. 23.2 ± 1.7%, n.s.), who were scheduled for heart transplantation or mechanical support implantation, were included in the study. A complex metabolomic and gene expression analysis of EAT obtained during surgery was performed. Results SGLT-2i ameliorated inflammation, as evidenced by the improved gene expression profile of pro-inflammatory genes in adipose tissue and decreased infiltration of immune cells into EAT. Enrichment of ether lipids with oleic acid noted on metabolomic analysis suggests a reduced disposition to ferroptosis, potentially further contributing to decreased oxidative stress in EAT of SGLT-2i treated subjects. Conclusions Our results show decreased inflammation in EAT of patients with severe heart failure treated by SGLT-2i, as compared to patients with heart failure without this therapy. Modulation of EAT inflammatory and metabolic status could represent a novel mechanism behind SGLT-2i-associated cardioprotective effects in patients with heart failure.

Abstract Despite global efforts to harmonize international trade statistics, our understanding of digital trade and its implications remains limited. Here, we introduce a method to estimate bilateral exports and imports for dozens of sectors starting from the corporate revenue data of large digital firms. This method allows us to provide estimates for digitally ordered and delivered trade involving digital goods (e.g. video games), productized services (e.g. digital advertising), and digital intermediation fees (e.g. hotel rental), which together we call digital products. We use these estimates to study five key aspects of digital trade. We find that, compared to trade in physical goods, digital product exports are more spatially concentrated, have been growing faster, and can offset trade balance estimates, like the United States trade deficit on physical goods. We also find that countries that have decoupled economic growth from greenhouse gas emissions tend to have larger digital exports and that digital exports contribute positively to the complexity of economies. This method, dataset, and findings provide a new lens to understand the impact of international trade in digital products.
