When the lightweight quartz fiber-reinforced phenolic (LQFRP) composite is subjected to the combined effect of a local structural heat source and high-speed airflow, its ablation behavior exhibits significant localized characteristics and strong coupled effect. In this study, we have developed a bidirectional loosely coupled numerical model that integrates thermal, fluid, solid and ablation phenomena to solve the ablation-through problem of the LQFRP composite. The model takes into account the mechanisms of pyrolysis, oxidation, sublimation, and thermal mechanical erosion that occur during the ablation process of the LQFRP composite. The results suggest that the local structural heat source plays a crucial role in the erosion and retreat of the LQFRP composite. The morphology of the ablation pit shows a noticeable asymmetry, which is attributed to the aerodynamic heat and force. As a result of the local structural heat source, the fluid temperature downstream of the ablation pit is higher compared to that upstream of the ablation pit. The fluid that flows downstream of the ablation pit undergoes significant compression, leading to the formation of an oblique shock wave. The distribution of resin pyrolysis degree within the LQFRP composite is influenced by internal heat conduction. Eruptive dynamics is influenced by gas escape from the ascending magma. Gas pathways form in the magma via bubble coalescence, leading to gas channeling. Magmatic crystals play a key role in gas channel formation. This work constrains experimentally decompression‐induced coalescence in high‐crystallinity silicic magmas without external deformation, focusing on low gas content and bimodal crystal size (microlites and phenocrysts). All percolating samples have permeabilities of 10−14 m2 at bulk porosities of 7–10 vol% and bulk crystallinities up to 75 vol%. Our results demonstrate the possibility of coalescence‐related outgassing at high pressure (120–350 MPa) and without external strain, which corresponds to magma stagnating deep in a volcanic conduit. Channeling at such low gas content implies that bimodal crystallinity favors effusive over explosive volcanic behavior. It may also be the missing physical mechanism explaining gas transfer across magmatic systems despite high melt viscosity and low or absent magma extrusion. An efficient way to outgas is to connect bubbles together (coalescence) up to the point where channels form in the magma (channeling) in which gas can circulate toward the surface. We investigate experimentally how coalescence and channeling happen in immobile, crystal‐rich viscous magma in conditions (pressure and temperature) similar to those found in deep volcanic conduit, where only a small amount of gas (<10%) is present. Our experiments demonstrate that bubble connections are possible thanks to a large amount of crystals on which bubbles can lean, deform, and join each other. That gas can escape from magma at depth could favor effusive eruption over volcanic explosions and even bring new insights on degassing in immobile magma. Raman spectra of zircon have recently been used as a pressure scale for studies of geological fluids at high temperatures and high pressures using diamond anvil cells (DACs). The zircon scale is advantageous in high chemical stability and the large pressure response of the B1g mode. Despite its excellent applicability, the calibration of the scale has been carried out only in a narrow pressure–temperature range, especially under limited high‐temperature and high‐pressure conditions. In this study, the pressure and temperature dependence of the Raman modes of synthetic zircon was investigated up to 9.5 GPa and from room temperature to 776 K using an externally heated diamond anvil cell. Ruby and gold were used as the reference pressure scales. The Raman shift of the B1g mode for the antisymmetric stretching of the SiO4 structure in zircon showed a linear pressure dependence of 5.48(4) cm−1/GPa up to 8 GPa at room temperature, in agreement with the previous studies. Measurements under high‐pressure and high‐temperature conditions confirmed that the pressure dependence up to 9.5 GPa along the isotherms from 373 to 675 K was consistent with the room‐temperature value; the wavenumbers can be well deduced from the sum of the individual effects of pressure and temperature, obtained at ambient temperature and pressure, respectively. A comparison of the zircon scale with the c‐BN Raman spectroscopic scale confirmed that the pressures determined with these scales were in reasonable agreement. The present results provide a confident use of the zircon Raman spectroscopic scale in a wider pressure–temperature range than previous studies for the internally consistent pressure determination. Carbonate rocks are susceptible to diagenesis, and the correct identification of diagenetic features and stages are primary tasks in paleoelevation and paleoclimate studies using carbonate proxies. In this study, we apply three key parameters that include stable isotopes, clumped isotope temperatures, and U-Pb ages to identify different diagenetic stages, i.e., eogenesis, mesogenesis, and telogenesis. We then adopt these criteria to explore the diagenetic history of the middle–late Eocene lacustrine carbonates in the Gerze area of western central Tibet, which have yielded contrasting interpretations of diagenetic stages and paleoelevation estimates. Petrographic observations and electron microprobe element mapping permitted the identification of different diagenetic features. The Gerze carbonates (4GZ section) contain distinct phases of micrite and vein/vug-fill calcite (sparite) with different stable oxygen isotope values of −4 to −6 ‰ and −10 to −14 ‰ (VPDB), respectively. The micrites are dominantly dolomite in composition and yield clumped isotope temperatures of 40–50 °C, which are interpreted to be the result of dolomitization during shallow burial. In contrast, the vein/vug-fill calcites exhibit lower clumped isotope temperatures of 20–30 °C and U-Pb ages of 3.0–3.3 Ma, indicating a late-stage telogenetic origin after exhumation to near the Earth's surface. Our documentation of different carbonate diagenetic stages sheds light on existing paleoelevation interpretations. Archean to Palaeoproterozoic basement rocks exposed in the Dunhuang block in NW China were affected by Palaeozoic crustal reworking, as constrained by previous zircon U–Pb geochronological investigations. However, relationships between the Palaeozoic metamorphic ages, P–T evolution and deformational history of the region remain ambiguous. In order to address this issue, P–T–t–D paths of paragneisses from the basement of the Hongliuxia belt in the southern Dunhuang block were investigated. Inclusions in garnet and kyanite from the paragneisses are considered as vestiges of Palaeozoic M1 metamorphism corresponding to initiation of the prograde evolution. The earliest continuous metamorphic fabric is an originally steep N–S striking foliation S2. This fabric was reworked by vertical folds F3 associated with the development of a ubiquitous steep, mainly south‐dipping, E‐W striking axial planar foliation S3. The S2 foliation in paragneisses is mainly associated with Grt–St–Ky–Sil–Bt–Ms–Pl–Qz–Rt assemblages in samples from the western domain and with Grt–Ky–Sil–Bt–Kfs–Pl–Qz–Rt assemblages in samples from the northeastern domain of the Hongliuxia belt. The S3 foliation is associated with Grt–Sil–St–Bt–Ms–Pl–Qz–Ilm assemblages in the western domain and with Grt–Sil–Bt–Ms–Pl–Qz–Kfs–Ilm assemblages in the northeastern domain, followed by growth of chlorite in both domains. Early prograde stage (M1) from 4.0–6.5 kbar and 540–560°C to metamorphic peak (M2a) at 9–10 kbar and ~650–675°C is mainly recorded by paragneisses from the western domain. Subsequent decompression is initially accompanied by heating (M2b) constrained to 6.5–7 kbar and 675–710°C in the western domain, and to 6–6.5 kbar and ~730°C in the northeastern domain, followed by cooling (M3) through 4–6.5 kbar and 550–650°C till late chloritization (late M3). In situ U–Pb dating of monazite combined with monazite trace‐element compositions suggests that prograde evolution (M1) most likely started at c. 406 Ma, peak‐P conditions (M2a) were reached at 400–394 Ma, decompression associated with heating (M2b) took place at 393–391 Ma, and cooling (M3) during exhumation probably lasted from 380 to 354 Ma. The prograde metamorphism probably reflects burial during underthrusting of neighbouring continental basement (the Alxa block or an equivalent) below the Dunhuang block. This event culminated in pure shear thickening (D2a) of the whole supra‐subduction margin followed by minor heating and exhumation (D2b). The D3‐M3 event is interpreted as reflecting exhumation during orthogonal shortening of the system, possibly in response to an independent orogenic cycle. Combined with the available regional data, this study reveals the existence of a complex tectono‐metamorphic evolution for the Dunhuang block characterized by two distinct orogenic phases with (i) the thickening of a previously thinned arc‐back‐arc crust recorded in the northern and central belts at 420–410 Ma in the pro‐wedge side of the active margin (Sanweishan phase), followed by (ii) the 410–390 Ma thickening in the retro‐wedge side (Hongliuxia phase). Such a tectonic evolution of the whole Dunhuang block resembles Andean‐type migration of crustal thickening from the convergent front to hinterlands. The D3‐M3 event, potentially responsible for the juxtaposition of rocks from different geological occurrences and depths, is seemingly independent from this Andean‐type orogenic cycle. The Nigerian Younger Granite (NaYG) province is renowned for its world-class anorogenic alkaline ring granite complexes and has been recognized as a potential host for abundant Nb–Sn–W–Mo mineralization. In this study, a comprehensive investigation was conducted on the southernmost complex of the province, known as the Afu granite complex, encompassing petrography, zircon U–Pb dating and Lu–Hf isotopes, and whole-rock geochemical analyses. The dominant rocks within the Afu complex consist of biotite granite and albite biotite granite. Both rock units exhibit typical characteristics of A1-type granite, including elevated levels of alkali oxides (Na2O + K2O = 8.01–8.52 wt%) and high field strength elements (Zr + Nb + Ce + Y = 495–950 ppm), as well as high FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) and Ga/Al ratios, similar to other younger granites found in Nigeria. Bulk rock Sm–Nd and zircon Lu–Hf isotopic data (εNd(t) = −2.6 to 0.9; εHf(t) = −7.2 to −0.5) indicate a predominantly crustal material-dominated magma source, with some contribution from mantle-derived magma. The linear correlations observed between Rb/Sr and Nb/Ta ratios as well as Sr contents from biotite granite to albite biotite granite suggest the significant role played by magma differentiation. The elevated bulk Nb contents observed in all rocks, along with the presence of Sn–W-bearing quartz veins, contribute to the rare metal mineralization of the Afu complex and indicate a combination of magmatic and hydrothermal processes. Additionally, zircon U–Pb dating results from the Afu granites reveal their relatively young ages (149–148 Ma) compared to other NaYGs (263–151 Ma), suggesting the cessation of anorogenic alkaline magmatism within the NaYG province. The Tashisayi Li deposit was newly discovered in the eastern part of the Tashisayi batholith, located in the Altyn Tagh region of Northwest China. A Li-rich composite pegmatite-aplite dyke (γ02) displays superimposed relationships among different Li-bearing phases, including lepidolite-albite-quartz pegmatite (LAQ), spodumene-albite-quartz pegmatite (SAQ), and aplite. The timing and conditions of magmatism and Li mineralization in the Tashisayi remain enigmatic. The study involved field observations, U–(Th)–Pb dating of columbite-group minerals (CGM), zircon, and monazite, and geochemical analyses of CGM and quartz. U–Pb dating of CGM of the γ02 dyke revealed formation ages of 471.6±3.5 Ma (LAQ), 439.6±5.0 Ma (SAQ), and 416.3±4.8 Ma (aplite). Zircon U-Pb and monazite U-(Th)-Pb dating of biotite granite, pegmatitic aplite, and muscovite granite yielded ages of ca. 473 Ma, 439 Ma, and 425 Ma, respectively. The dating results indicate that the rare-metal pegmatites and granites in the Tashisayi area were emplaced during various periods from the Early Ordovician to Early Devonian, consistent with other rare-metal deposits in the Tugeman region. The textural and geochemical analyses on the CGM and quartz reveal that the LAQ, SAQ and aplite crystallized from highly evolved magmas under water-poor and relatively low temperature conditions, experiencing distinct evolution trend and forming processes. Additionally, both LAQ and SAQ were influenced by fluid or magma activities and the pegmatitic melt forming LAQ could enrich both Li and Sn. Extensive tectonic events in the Altyn Tagh Orogen, including ocean basin closure and continental collisions, promote the development of Li-rich granitic magmas. Thus, we argue that the multiple magmatic and Li mineralization events in the Tashisayi area are most likely originated from the melting of Proterozoic crustal materials, and the process was controlled by tectonic interactions between the Central Altyn, Southern Altyn, Northern Altyn, and Eastern Kunlun blocks. Apatite fission track (AFT) dating is now routinely performed using LA‐ICP‐MS, and U‐Pb age data are often acquired at the same time, allowing double dating of individual grains. Furthermore, additional geochemical data, such as REE mass fractions are readily acquired during the analysis. It is therefore of practical interest to identify a single material as a quality control on ages and composition. Here we present AFT and U‐Pb data for the McClure Mountain Syenite (MMS) apatite, already widely used as an age reference material by the U‐Pb community. We performed double dating on 238 grains, in thirteen measurement sessions over two years. The AFT data show remarkable reproducibility with an overall central age of 254.1 ± 5.1 Ma. The U‐Pb results agree with the reference age for individual sessions (and for all data together). The results show that that the McClure Mountain apatite is a valid quality control material for double dating, allowing the use of the same material for both methods. We also propose to extend the quality control using MMS to trace element measurements performed in conjunction AFT and U‐Pb dating. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Clarke River Shear Zone marks the boundary between the Thomson and Mossman orogens in the northeastern Tasmanides. To better understand the kinematic history of this east-northeast-trending shear zone, and its role during the tectonic history of eastern Gondwana, we investigated rock deformation along a segment of the Clarke River Shear Zone. Based on field observations, interpretation of aeromagnetic data and microstructural analysis, we show that the Clarke River Shear Zone experienced at least three phases of reactivation. Gently plunging stretching lineation and kinematic indicators, such as steeply plunging asymmetric folds and asymmetric porphyroclasts, correspond to an early phase of sinistral strike-slip ductile shearing. Subsequent general dextral shear deformation is suggested based on the presence of S-tectonites, symmetric porphyroclasts and kinematic indicators with dominant dextral and subordinate sinistral shear senses. This phase, which occurred under amphibolite-facies metamorphic conditions, was contemporaneous with the emplacement of the Craigie Tonalite, for which we obtained a new zircon U–Pb crystallisation age of 410.3 ± 1 Ma. A later reactivation phase along the Clarke River Shear Zone, under brittle conditions, is indicated by the presence of cataclasite zones and chlorite–epidote alteration. Based on our findings, and regional information on the tectono-magmatic evolution of northeastern Queensland, we suggest that the Clarke River Shear Zone was possibly a sinistral transform fault during the Silurian. During the Devonian, it is possible that deformation along the Clarke River Shear Zone was related to the transition between the non-retreating subduction zone in the north, and the highly mobile (retreating) plate boundary farther south. However, the dextral kinematic component associated with this deformation is not fully explained. Brittle deformation, likely associated with dextral transpression during the Carboniferous, marked the last stage of activity along the Clarke River Shear Zone. The Clarke River Shear Zone records three phases of reactivation during the Silurian–Carboniferous. Ductile dextral general shear deformation along the Clarke River Shear Zone occurred at ca 410 Ma, based on zircon U–Pb dating of a syn-tectonic intrusion. The U–Pb detrital zircon record of the Surat Basin, an important part of the Great Australian Superbasin, has already revealed important insights about sediment source terranes. However, owing to the high closure temperature of zircons, low-temperature thermal events that might have impacted the sediment are not recorded. Here, new 40Ar/39Ar detrital mica ages, which record low-temperature events as a result of isotopic resetting, are paired with published U–Pb detrital zircon ages from the same samples to provide a more complete interpretation of the tectonic and thermal history of the Jurassic-age Precipice Sandstone and Evergreen Formation. The 40Ar/39Ar geochronology of mica grains from five wells reveals two broad groups with distinct age populations: 1500–180 Ma and 150–45 Ma. Micas older than about 180 Ma are sourced from multiple terranes. The slight discrepancy in ages between the 40Ar/39Ar and the U–Pb systems of the same samples may represent differences in closure temperature. However, some micas, such as those dating to ca 180 Ma, may also reflect a thermal reset event. Similarly, the younger group of micas, split into Cretaceous and Paleogene populations, reflect the impact of post-depositional thermal events on the basin. Isotopic resetting of the micas was likely the result of hydrothermal fluids migrating through reactivated faults, fractures and/or porous and permeable sediments. The origin of the fluids during the Cretaceous can be linked to an eastern subduction zone and subsequent igneous underplating resulting in uplift and denudation. The exact source of the hydrothermal fluids for the micas of Paleogene age, recorded in samples collected from the base of the Evergreen Formation, however, remains uncertain. Importantly, 40Ar/39Ar dating of mica from sandstones permits the detection of post-depositional thermal events that may have implications for tracing fluid migration throughout the basin and reconstructing the Cretaceous–Paleogene tectonic history of the basin. Combining 40Ar/39Ar dating of micas with U–Pb dating of zircons reveals a more complete tectonic and thermal history of the Jurassic-age Precipice Sandstone and Evergreen Formation of the Surat Basin. 40Ar/39Ar dating of detrital micas reveals two broad groups with distinct age populations: 1500–180 Ma and 140–45 Ma. Ages older than ca 180 Ma are linked to multiple source terranes, including the Thomson and New England orogens, and the contemptuous magmatic arc. FeO is an important component in both mantle silicates and core iron alloys. Understanding its melting behavior and physical properties is crucial for exploring the chemistry and physics of our planet. Here we report the melting curve of FeO up to 186 GPa from laser‐heating experiments in a diamond‐anvil cell coupled with synchrotron X‐ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. In‐situ observations of both temperature plateau and changes in XRD patterns were used as primary melting criteria. The ex‐situ examination of a recovered sample shows consistent melting temperatures of FeO with in‐situ determinations. Our melting curve of FeO agrees with existing low‐pressure data within uncertainties and is much lower than earlier experimental results above 100 GPa including those extrapolated by Lindemann's law. Our results indicate that FeO‐rich materials could be present as melts coexisting with surrounding solids in the lowermost mantle, providing plausible explanations to the seismically observed ultra‐low velocity zones. In this study, we conducted melting experiments on FeO up to 186 GPa in a laser‐heated diamond‐anvil cell using both in‐situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction techniques and supplementary ex‐situ analyses of a recovered sample. Our results show that the melting temperature of FeO is 3,440 ± 250 K at 135 GPa, the Earth's core‐mantle boundary (CMB) pressure. The MgO‐FeO‐SiO2 melting phase diagram shows that fractional crystallization of mantle silicate melts would end up with a cotectic ternary minimum containing up to 95 mol% FeO, which would have a similar or slightly lower melting temperature than FeO. Considering the temperature at present‐day CMB, we anticipate that FeO‐rich materials, possible products of late‐stage magma ocean crystallization, would still exist as melts with surrounding solids at the bottom of the mantle. Due to its liquid nature and high density, the existence of FeO‐rich melts above the CMB could provide important insights for explaining the seismologically observed ultra‐low velocity zones. Petrogenetic models of martian magmas reflect the compositional, thermal, and geodynamical evolution of its interior. Most models for shergottite meteorites, which sampled relatively young martian basalts, invoke partial melting in a mantle plume head and filtering of the magma through the crust. Olivine-phyric, poikilitic, and olivine-gabbroic shergottites contain large, Mg-rich olivine crystals that record their parent magma history and are generally regarded to form initially in slow cooling, near-equilibrium environments in the lower crust. Here we report the unexpected common occurrence of Mg-rich olivine crystals with chained, mantled dendritic, and skeletal morphologies that reflect rapid growth, requiring relatively large degrees of undercooling and possibly moderate to fast cooling rates. Novel 3D analysis of crystal textures and core Fe-Mg content demonstrates that chained and mantled dendritic olivines in enriched shergottites are among the earliest-formed crystals, indicating rapid crystal growth during initial magma pooling in the lower crust, a process that has not been documented in Earth basalts. In geochemically depleted shergottites, skeletal olivines appear later in the crystallization sequence, but before the final eruption and solidification. Geochemically intermediate samples do not contain rapid-growth olivine, indicating extended equilibrium growth. The frequent occurrence of chained, mantled dendritic, and skeletal olivines in enriched and depleted shergottites suggests that the conditions needed for rapid growth are common for mafic magmatism on Mars, and that these magmas experience complex thermal histories characterized by discrete episodes of large undercooling at depth. Potassium (K) isotopic compositions for a suite of crustal rocks (plutonic unit, sheeted dike complex, and volcanic sequence) in the Troodos ophiolite, Cyprus, were determined to investigate fluid-transport processes during subduction inception. The gabbros and plagiogranites in the plutonic unit have restricted K isotopic compositions (0.01–0.20 ‰ and −0.17 to 0.02 ‰, respectively), whereas diabases in the sheeted dike complex have variable δ41K values from −0.24 to 1.13 ‰. The δ41K values of the volcanic sequence range from −0.26 to −0.07 ‰ in the lower pillow lavas, and from −0.71 to 0.34 ‰ in the upper pillow lavas. These δ41K values are clearly distinct from those of subducting sediments and altered oceanic crust, ruling out direct crustal input as the cause of the unusually heavy K isotopic compositions. Rather, the high K/Th, K/U, and Sr/Th ratios of the investigated samples, together with binary mixing modelling, reveal that the anomalously heavy K isotopic compositions in Troodos rocks are attributed to the influx of fluids during subduction inception. Notably, the δ41K values in the crustal rocks of the Troodos ophiolite are more variable and extend to higher values than those of arc-front and rear-arc lavas of the Izu arc and arc lavas of Martinique in the Lesser Antilles, indicating continuous K isotope fractionation during slab dehydration. Thus, the heavy K isotopic compositions of the Troodos ophiolite reflect K isotope fractionation during dehydration of a shallow slab within a newly formed subduction system, where heavy K isotopes preferentially enter into the aqueous fluids. Later, progressive breakdown of K-bearing phases at deeper levels results in isotopically lighter hydrous melts, which can be delivered to the arc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Montana metasedimentary terrane in the northern Wyoming Province provides valuable insight into crustal formation and reworking processes along the cratonic margin and offers a unique opportunity to decipher the complex Neoarchean-Paleoproterozoic terrane assembly in southwestern Laurentia. We report new zircon U-Pb dates and Hf isotopes from seven metaigneous samples in the northwestern Montana metasedimentary terrane. The internal textures of zircon in this study are complex; some lack inherited cores and metamorphic overgrowths, while others exhibit core-rim relationships. Based on the cathodoluminescence (CL) features, we interpret these grains to be magmatic populations. These data demonstrate discrete igneous pulses at 2.7 Ga, 2.4 Ga, and 1.7 Ga, which indicate significant crustal formation intervals in the Montana metasedimentary terrane. Zircons at 2.7 Ga have positive εHf values (+2.4 to +0.9) that indicate a depleted mantle source. Most 2.4 Ga and 1.7 Ga samples have negative εHf values (-1.6 to -15.5), which indicate significant contributions from preexisting crust. Two 1.7 Ga samples, however, have near-chondritic εHf values (+0.4 to +0.3) that indicate larger juvenile contributions. The time-integrated Hf isotope trend suggests that the Paleoproterozoic zircons were produced from a mixture of older crust and juvenile mantle inputs. Additionally, the isotopic age fingerprint of the Montana metasedimentary terrane suggests that it differs from northern-bounding terranes. Viewed more broadly, the 2.7 Ga and 1.7 Ga age peaks that the Montana metasedimentary terrane shares with the global zircon age spectrum suggest that the drivers of these events in the Montana metasedimentary terrane were common throughout the Earth and may be associated with the assembly of supercontinents Kenorland and Nuna. To understand the orogenic cyclicity that built the northern Yili magmatic arc in the southern Balhkash-Yili arc of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, we synthesize its tectono-magmatic processes using new and existing U-Pb geochronological dates (228), Hf-in-zircon (1605 spots), bulk-rock geochemical data (1458), and Sr-Nd isotopic analyses (461) of magmatic rocks. Based on temporal-spatial distribution of magmatic rocks and their geochemical composition, four magmatic episodes (ca. 470-440 Ma, 420-380 Ma, 350-320 Ma, and 300-260 Ma) punctuated by a magmatic gap (ca. 440-420 Ma) and two high-flux magmatic pulses (ca. 380-350 Ma and 320-300 Ma) were recognized. These episodic magmatic processes are proposed to be dynamically associated with changes in configuration of the subducted Junggar oceanic slab, including 470-440 Ma initial subduction, 440-420 Ma flat subduction, 420-380 Ma retreating subduction, 380-350 Ma advancing subduction, and 350-320 Ma retreating subduction, followed by slab break-off in ca. 320-300 Ma and subsequent lithospheric delamination in a postcollisional setting during the Permian (ca. 300-260 Ma). In addition, tectonic transition (ca. 380 Ma and 320 Ma) from extension to compression were suggested to be closely related to the two phases of porphyry Cu mineralization events in the Balkhash-Yili arc. High crustal thickness and more mature arc evolution with prominent crust-mantle interaction may be responsible for the significant porphyry Cu endowment in the northern Balkhash-Yili arc. It remains controversial whether the influence of hydrothermal fluids on dolomite reservoirs is dominated by dissolution or precipitation. In this study, the influence of multistage hydrothermal fluids on the dolomite reservoirs of the Lower Ordovician Yeli-Liangjiashan Formation in the Chengdao-Zhuanghai area was investigated based on petrographic observations and geochemical analyses, with an emphasis on the temporal relationships among dolomitization, pore formation, and multistage hydrothermal fluid activities determined by in situ U-Pb dating. The Î'18O, Î'13C, and 87Sr/86Sr data indicate that the genesis of pre-hydrothermal dolomites and the earliest-formed dolomite cement (Cd1) closest to the edges of pores were related to coeval seawater. The U-Pb age of pre-hydrothermal dolomites is 427 ± 11 Ma, representing the time when early dolomitization occurred. The original pore formation predates the precipitation of Cd1 with a U-Pb age of 391 ± 12 Ma. Stage I and stage II hydrothermal fluids were derived from the Precambrian basement and the mantle, respectively, as evidenced by differences in Î'18Ofluid values and rare earth element characteristics. Stage I and II hydrothermal fluids occurred at 161 ± 12 Ma and 81 ± 16 Ma, respectively. Therefore, early dolomitization and pore formation are not correlated with the two stages of hydrothermal fluids. Stage II hydrothermal fluids contained a relatively higher amount of H2S than stage I hydrothermal fluids. H2S-related dissolution caused by stage II hydrothermal fluids mainly occurred in the dolomite reservoirs adjacent to major faults, and H2S was gradually consumed as the distance from the major faults increased. The two stages of hydrothermal minerals successively filled most of the spaces in pores and fractures. The central part of Java, Indonesia, is located on the southern margin of Sundaland, and records the tectonic-magmatic history of the easternmost Neo-Tethys. Elucidating the petrogenesis and its tectonic setting of the Cretaceous Luk Ulo granites in Central Java is key to reconstructing the late subductionaccretion history of the easternmost Neo-Tethys. This study reports for the first time the zircon U-Pb geochronology, Hf-O isotope, whole-rock major and trace elements, and Sr-Nd isotope geochemistry of two granitoid episodes from Central Java. Zircon U-Pb dating results show that the Luk Ulo granites formed in two Cretaceous episodes at ca. 115 Ma and ca. 70 Ma. These two Cretaceous granitoid episodes contain both calcalkaline with enriched large-ion lithophile elements and light rare earth elements and depleted high field strength elements, exhibiting arc geochemical signatures. The older (ca. 115 Ma) granites show slightly higher (87Sr/86Sr)i values of 0.70772 to 0.70784 and weakly negative εNd(t) values of -2.37 to -1.67, indicating the contribution of ancient crust. However, the scattered zircon εHf(t) values of +0.23 to +11.39 suggest a probable mixture of ancient crustal components and juvenile crustal additions in the magma source. The high zircon δ18O values (+8.86‰ to +14.24‰) show the possible incorporation of supracrustal components (sediments and fluids) in the magma formation. In contrast, the younger (ca. 70 Ma) granites show low (87Sr/86Sr)i values of 0.70427-0.70442, strong positive εNd(t) values of +3.89 to +4.03, and zircon εHf(t) values of +14.04 to +17.38 and slightly higher zircon δ18O values of +5.01‰ to +6.49‰ than the depleted mantle, indicating that the magma was predominantly derived from the juvenile crust with negligible supracrustal involvement. In general, zircon εHf(t) values and whole-rock εNd(t) values of the Late Cretaceous (after ca. 90 Ma) granitic rocks in the southwest margin of Sundaland were higher than those of the Early Cretaceous granitoids, suggesting a change in the source region from ancient to the juvenile in response to the rollback of the Neo-Tethys ocean. Our findings from the two Cretaceous granitoid episodes in Central Java provide new insights into the tectonomagmatic evolution along the southwestern margin of Sundaland and the two different episodes of crustal growth in the easternmost Tethys during the Cretaceous. Basaltic volcanism on the Moon produced low- and high-Ti mare basalt suites that are also distinct with respect to their iron, titanium, and magnesium isotopic compositions. Here, the equilibrium fractionation of Fe and Ti isotopes between ilmenite and melt was experimentally investigated in order to evaluate the role of ilmenite in generating the isotopic compositional variability among the lunar mare basalts. Ilmenite crystallization experiments were conducted using two bulk compositions: an ilmenite-saturated basaltic andesite and an ilmenite-saturated Apollo 14 black glass, and the Fe and Ti isotopic compositions of the experimental ilmenites and glass (quenched melt) were analyzed using solution MC-ICPMS after hand-picking. Additionally, Nuclear Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (NRIXS) measurements on synthetic ilmenite were conducted and compared to previous NRIXS measurements on synthetic lunar glasses in order to derive temperature-dependent equilibrium ilmenite-melt Fe isotopic fractionations. Experimentally determined ilmenite-melt fractionations were then incorporated into a lunar magma ocean crystallization model that tracks the major element and isotopic compositional evolution of lunar magma ocean cumulates and residual liquid. There is good agreement between the Fe equilibrium isotopic fractionation measured by NRIXS and the laboratory equilibration experiments, and we find that the isotopic fractionation is sensitive to ilmenite compositional differences (0 vs. 10% Fe3+). Further, the light Ti isotopic composition of ilmenite relative to the melt (Δ 49 Ti = ilmenite-melt − 0.09 ± 0.03 ‰ at 1100 ∘C) is consistent with the higher coordination of Ti in ilmenite relative to melts and results of previous studies. The modeled Ti isotopic compositions for lunar magma ocean cumulates display Ti isotopic variability sufficient to explain the low- and high-Ti mare basalt sources. However, the difference in Fe isotopic composition between the low- and high-Ti mare basalts cannot be attributed solely to ilmenite fractionation. Instead, Fe isotopic fractionation by additional products of lunar magma ocean crystallization, such as clinopyroxene, is required to generate the inferred Fe and Mg isotopic variability in the lunar mantle. Alternatively, the Fe and Mg isotopic compositions of the lunar mare basalts may indicate Fe-Mg interdiffusion has occurred in the Ti-rich component of the mare basalt source regions via reaction between ilmenite cumulates and the olivine- and pyroxene-rich lunar mantle. Ultrahigh‐temperature (UHT) granulites, a prominent feature of Paleoproterozoic orogenic belts, preserve a record of geodynamic processes during the Precambrian (Archean–Paleoproterozoic). Quantitative pressure–temperature–time (P–T–t) paths of these UHT granulites can constrain the tectonic processes and metamorphic evolution in such a tectonic regime. Here, UHT mafic granulites with a high‐pressure (HP) prograde path are first reported in the Diebusige Complex in the Alxa Block, western part of the Khondalite Belt (KB), North China Craton (NCC). The detailed petrographic studies show that two mafic granulite samples preserve corona textures around relict garnet or garnet pseudomorphs (completely replaced by plagioclase), and a third mafic granulite sample has a relatively simple mineralogy with a granoblastic‐polygonal texture. These mafic granulites have similar peak (Tmax) assemblages of clinopyroxene + orthopyroxene + plagioclase + ilmenite ± garnet ± amphibole ± quartz + melt. Phase equilibrium modelling and Ti‐in‐amphibole and rare earth element (REE)‐based thermometries all constrain similar peak conditions of ~880–950°C/~8.5–10 kbar implying an ~100°C/kbar apparent geothermal gradient for these mafic granulites. Based on the corona textures or pseudomorphs of garnet and mineral assemblages, we identified a Pmax (~14 kbar) prograde stage before the Tmax stage. Thus, a clockwise P–T path with heating and decompression followed by near‐isobaric cooling (IBC) is recorded from these UHT mafic granulites. In addition, zircon and apatite SHRIMP or LA–ICP–MS U–Pb dating yields an age interval of ~1.81–1.7 Ga, which is interpreted as representing the cooling time from ~900–800°C to ~575°C at the middle‐upper crustal levels (<25 km deep) for these mafic granulites, with an ~1.5–2.5°C/Myr cooling rate. The new P–T–t path of these rocks includes high‐pressure prograde, UHT peak, and slow cooling retrograde processes, which implicates a post‐collisional tectonic setting for UHT metamorphism in the KB and the processes of collision, exhumation, and cooling of the KB. Granulites and eclogites are useful for revealing the thermal and tectonic evolution of orogens. Early Palaeozoic granulites and associated eclogites in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB) display contrasting metamorphic age. Such asynchronous granulite–eclogite associations have rarely been reported, and the geological significance of their existence remains to be further explored. In this study, petrological and geochronological techniques were used to investigate two felsic and two mafic granulites collected from the Qingshuiquan area in the eastern section of the EKOB. These rocks record similar P–T paths, which are characterized by a peak stage within suprasolidus and high‐pressure (HP) granulite facies conditions (750–832°C and 10.1–12.0 kbar), followed by an initial decompression and cooling stage to subsolidus conditions (600–748°C and 6.5–8.6 kbar), and then a stage of further retrogression under greenschist facies conditions. The protoliths to these granulites are of volcanic and sedimentary origin and suggested to be a component of the continental basement unit. Metamorphic P–T paths indicate that these rocks experienced peak metamorphism at a depth of ~40 km, then cooling and uplift to a depth of ~25 km, and eventually experienced low‐grade retrogression at shallow crustal levels. Cathodoluminescence images and compositional data demonstrate that the zircons in these rocks are of metamorphic origin and they crystallized at or near peak conditions. SIMS U–Pb dating of representative zircon grains yield concordant metamorphic ages of c. 490–520 Ma, with a peak value of 505 Ma on the probability density curve. These ages are similar to other 480–530 Ma ages typically retrieved from EKOB granulites and associated rocks, and are markedly older than the 400–450 Ma ages retrieved from eclogites and their host rocks. The HP granulites and eclogites of the EKOB do not show overprinting relationships. Such asynchronous characteristics imply that the two rock types formed in distinct tectonic settings and at different stages of a protracted subduction–collision process. The studied granulites are suggested to have formed in the root of a continental arc during a stage of Proto‐Tethys Ocean subduction. Because dike propagation depends on stress state, the geometry of dikes can be used to make inferences about crustal stress conditions during emplacement. Early work relied on analytical solutions for stress in a two-dimensional elastic medium with a pressurized circular magma chamber and biaxial far-field stress. The principal stress trajectories in this classical model depend on the ratio of deviatoric stress magnitude to chamber pressure. Assuming dikes follow principal stress trajectories and bounding plausible magma chamber excess pressures lead to estimates of deviatoric stress magnitudes from the map pattern of dikes. Mériaux and Lister (2002) pointed out that this approach ignored stresses due to the magma-filled dikes themselves, which significantly alter predicted dike trajectories. They estimated deviatoric stresses 2 to 5 times previous estimates. However, Mériaux and Lister (2002) assumed the pressure distribution within the dike rather than computing it from viscous magma flow. We revisit this simplification using a 2D model which fully couples a linear elastic host rock with a pressurized chamber and a fluid-filled dike, assuming the lubrication approximation for viscous flow. This model is solved using the finite element method (FEM). Ensuring that dike propagation is stable limits the dike-tip cavity pressure for realistic fracture toughness. We find that computed trajectories fall between the classical principal stress and Mériaux and Lister (2002) trajectories for given regional stress and chamber pressure conditions. This leads to deviatoric stress magnitude estimates that are 1 to 2 times the classical estimates, and 1/2 to 1/3 the Mériaux and Lister (2002) estimates. We also explore the consequences of chamber depressurization due to magma outflow during dike propagation. For a given melt compressibility, the resulting trajectories align more closely with those obtained from the classical model, compared to those obtained assuming a constant chamber pressure. At higher ratios of tectonic stress to chamber pressure, the trajectories are nearly identical. In both the constant pressure and depressurizing chamber cases, our results suggest that realistic magma pressure profiles within a dike lead to smaller estimated ratios of deviatoric stress to chamber pressure than found by Mériaux and Lister (2002). This paper presents the integration of magnetic susceptibility measurements and whole-rock geochemical compositional and Nd–Sr isotopic ratio analyses for granite samples collected from the Ranong, Lam Pi, Ban Lam Ru, and Phuket granite bodies in the Western Granitoid Belt of Thailand. In addition, U–Pb dating was performed on zircons extracted from the samples. All samples are proper granites based on their mineralogical and geochemical characteristics. Two samples collected from the Lam Pi granite body were classified as magnetite-series and I-type. The remaining granite samples were classified as ilmenite-series and S- or A-type. Furthermore, all granites were classified as syn-collision granites. Excluding the magnetite-series samples from the Lam Pi granite body, the other samples exhibit enrichment in incompatible elements, such as Nb, Sn, Ta, Pb, Bi, Th, U, Ce, Rb, and Cs. Zircon U–Pb dating yielded ages of ca. 60 Ma for the magnetite-series granites from the Lam Pi granite body, whereas ages of 88–84 Ma were obtained for the other granite bodies. Initial Nd–Sr isotopic ratios indicate a higher contribution of mantle material in the Lam Pi magnetite-series granites and a higher contribution of continental crust material in the other granites. Based on these compositional and zircon U–Pb age data, it is inferred that the 88–84 Ma granites formed as a result of the thickening of the continental crust owing to the collision between the Sibumasu and the West Burma blocks. In contrast, the ca. 60 Ma Lam Pi magnetite-series granites are thought to have been generated via partial melting of the mantle wedge associated with the subduction of the Neo-Tethyan oceanic crust beneath the West Burma Block. Recently, a large-scale gas reservoir was discovered in granitic buried hills of the Songnan Low Uplift in the Qiongdongnan Basin. However, the strong heterogeneity of granite reservoirs limits further exploration and evaluation. Based on observations of sixty core samples and sixty thin sections, mineral composition, zircon dating, apatite fission tracks, physical properties, image logs, outcrop surveys and seismic interpretations, the characteristics of granite weathering crust of the Songnan Low Uplift are analyzed, and its controlling factors and evolution process are evaluated. The results show that weathered granite in the study area can be divided into several zones, from top to bottom: eluvium–slope zone, sandy zone, weathered fracture zone and horizontal undercurrent vuggy zone. The reservoirs in the eluvium–slope zone are dominated by microfissures and intergranular dissolution pores and have an average porosity of 4.68% and permeability of 2.34 md; the reservoirs in the sandy zone are composed of intergranular and intragranular dissolution pores and have an average porosity of 11.46% and permeability of 4.99 md; the reservoirs in the weathered fracture zone consist of various fractures and have an average porosity of 3.91% and permeability of 2.5 md; the reservoirs in the horizontal undercurrent vuggy zone are subhorizontal fractures and vugs and have an average porosity of 2.7% and permeability of 0.23 md. The development of granite reservoirs is jointly influenced by petrology and minerals, long-term exposure in a warm humid paleoclimate, faults, diverse topographies and shallow buried depth. Based on the above, our study establishes a development model of weathering crust and suggests that only the gentle slope and platform remain strongly weathered zones. After undergoing a complex evolution process of formation–destruction/denudation–regeneration–preservation, the current weathering crust of the Songnan Low Uplift is finally established. The results of this study have important theoretical and application value for the hydrocarbon exploration of buried hills in the Qiongdongnan Basin and provide a reference example for other granite reservoirs worldwide. Madagascar is globally recognized as an important producer of high-quality flaky graphite. However, current research on graphite deposits in Madagascar remains insufficient. Previous studies have linked the genesis of Madagascan graphite deposits to the metamorphism of sedimentary organic matter. Here, we provide a case study of graphite deposits in Madagascar, combining new data from the Ambahita graphite deposit (AMG) in southern Madagascar with data from the Antanisoa graphite deposit (ANG) in central Madagascar and the Vohitasara graphite deposit (VOG) on the east coast of Madagascar. We note that the mineral assemblages of graphite-bearing rocks in the AMG, ANG, and VOG are not typical of metamorphic mineral assemblages but rather the results of filling and metasomatism by mantle-derived fluids that occurred after peak metamorphism. Electron microprobe analysis indicates that the graphite of the AMG, VOG, and ANG is usually associated with phlogopite or Mg-biotite; the phlogopite shares a common genesis with other widespread phlogopite deposits across Madagascar. We reveal that the distribution of graphite deposits in Madagascar is primarily controlled by ductile shear zones between blocks. Ductile shear zones that extend deep into the mantle can provide an ideal migration channel and architecture for the emplacement of mantle-derived fluids. The graphite mineralization formed no earlier than the peak metamorphism (490 Ma) and no later than the intrusion of pegmatite veins (389 ± 5 Ma). The distribution of graphite deposits, graphite orebody morphologies, mineral associations, and geochemical data suggest that the genesis of graphite deposits in Madagascar is linked to mantle-derived fluid filling rather than the metamorphism of sediments, as previously suggested. The Kangjiawan Pb-Zn deposit, situated within the Shuikoushan polymetallic ore field in Changning, Hunan Province, China, is a large-scale Pb-Zn deposit unearthed in 1976. Based on detailed geological field investigations, this study presents the results of the Rb-Sr isotopic dating, electron probe microanalyses (EPMAs), and LA-ICP-MS analyses of the Kangjiawan Pb-Zn deposit in order to determine the ore-forming age and the occurrence of trace elements in sphalerite and thereby constrain the genesis of the deposit. The Rb-Sr dating of quartz-hosted fluid inclusions yielded an Rb-Sr isochron age of 150 ± 4 Ma, with an initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.71101 ± 0.00008 (MSWD = 1.1), suggesting that the Pb-Zn mineralization of the Kangjiawan deposit took place during the Late Jurassic, coeval with the magmatic activities within the ore field. EPMA and LA-ICP-MS analyses showed that Fe, Mn, and Cd were primarily incorporated into the sphalerite lattice through isomorphous substitution. Specifically, Fe and Mn substituted for Zn, whereas Cd replaced both Fe and Zn. Other elements such as Cu, Sb, and Sn occurred within the sphalerite lattice through mineral micro-inclusions or isomorphic substitution. EPMAs and LA-ICP-MS results showed that the FeS contents in sphalerite were less than 14.33%, with corresponding ore-forming temperatures below 259 °C. The LA-ICP-MS results showed that sphalerites from the Kangjiawan Pb-Zn deposit had relatively high Ga/In ratios ranging from 0.01 to 144, providing further support for medium-to-low-temperature mineralization. The trace element compositions of sphalerites from the Kangjiawan Pb-Zn deposit exhibit skarn-type characteristics, suggesting a potential association with contemporary magmatic activities within the Shuikoushan ore field. During the Late Jurassic, extensive granitic magmatic activities occurred in the study area. The late Paleozoic tectonic setting of the Zongwulong Belt (ZWLB), a significant unit located in the northern Qaidam margin, Qinghai province, remains uncertain. Diabase dykes in the western part of the Zongwulong Belt offer insights into this issue. Field investigations reveal that the dips of the dykes are almost vertical, and they have sharp boundaries with the host rocks. These dykes consist of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and opaque minerals exhibiting a characteristic porphyritic texture and massive structure. Zircon U-Pb dating of the dykes yields a weighted 206Pb/238U age of 289 ± 1 Ma. The dykes exhibit relatively high concentrations of TFeO, K2O + Na2O, and TiO2, while the SiO2 and MgO concentrations are relatively low. They display relative light-over-heavy REE enrichment, and lack negative Nb-Ta and Eu anomalies. The dykes underwent negligible crustal contamination, and experienced extensive fractional crystallization of olivine, clinopyroxene, and Fe-Ti oxides. Originating from the spinel–garnet transition zone at depths of approximately 75 km, the dykes result from garnet facies low-degree melting (5%–10%) in a continental rift setting. Combining these findings with regional geological data, we propose that the ZWLB likely experienced a continental rift in the west and exhibited a narrow oceanic environment in the east in the late Paleozoic period, potentially representing the most distant north branch of the East Paleo-Tethys Ocean. The kinematics and deformation pattern along the Altyn Tagh fault (ATF), one of the largest strike‐slip faults on Earth is of great significance for understanding the growth of the Tibetan Plateau. However, the initial rupture along the ATF remains debated given the limited constraints on the depositional age of associated Cenozoic syntectonic strata. Here we investigated the syntectonic Cenozoic strata in the Xorkol Basin, associated with the strike‐slip faulting along the ATF. New uranium‐lead analyses of the carbonate deposits in the Paleogene strata yield dates of 58.9 ± 1.29 Ma, representing the initial rupture of the ATF. This first documented radioisotopic age coincides with the ca. 60 Ma onset timing of India‐Asia collision, highlighting its far‐field effect at the northern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. We infer that the deformation of the entire Tibetan Plateau started synchronously with the India‐Asia collision. Plain Language Summary: Carbonate U‐Pb dating techniques applied to rocks associated with the Altyn Tagh fault, a major fault in North Tibet, reveal that the fault started slipping about 58.9 million years ago, coinciding with the time when India collided with Asia. This finding provides new constraints on when and where this fault formed and suggests that the northern Tibetan Plateau started deformation earlier than previously thought. The chemical and pore structures of coal play a crucial role in determining the content of free gas in coal reservoirs. This study focuses on investigating the impact of acidification transformation on the micro-physical and chemical structure characteristics of coal samples collected from Wenjiaba No. 1 Mine in Guizhou. The research involves a semi-quantitative analysis of the chemical structure parameters and crystal structure of coal samples before and after acidification using Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments. Additionally, the evolution characteristics of the pore structure are characterized through high-pressure mercury injection (HP-MIP), low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (LT-N2A), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental findings reveal that the acid solution modifies the structural features of coal samples, weakening certain vibrational structures and altering the chemical composition. Specifically, the asymmetric vibration structure of aliphatic CH2, the asymmetric vibration of aliphatic CH3, and the symmetric vibration of CH2 are affected. This leads to a decrease in the contents of -OH and -NH functional groups while increasing aromatic structures. The crystal structure of coal samples primarily dissolves transversely after acidification, affecting intergranular spacing and average height. Acid treatment corrodes mineral particles within coal sample cracks, augmenting porosity, average pore diameter, and the ratio of macro-pores to transitional pores. Moreover, acidification increases fracture width and texture, enhancing the connectivity of the fracture structure in coal samples. The Late Mesozoic subduction of Izanagi slab beneath East Asia formed large-scale intraplate magmatism in SE South China and subduction mélanges outcropped in SW Japan to eastern Taiwan Island, but the accompanying arc remains uncertain. We conducted LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating and trace element analyses of proximal sandstones from the SW East China Sea to trace a Jurassic to Cretaceous magmatic arc. Newly acquired data reveal that arc magmatism mostly developed in episodes of 150–124 and 124–102 Ma, exhibiting characteristics of low-T, high Th/U, U/Yb, Sc/Yb, Th/Nb, and low Nb/Yb, Nb/Hf ratios. This magmatic arc, combined with the SE South China intraplate and residual subduction mélanges, spatially forms a Late Mesozoic trench–arc–intraplate architecture responding to the Izanagi subduction. Its identified tectonic scenarios mainly include slab strike-slip subduction (200–170 Ma), slab stagnation and intraplate foundering (170–150 Ma), slab rollback and arc-root removal (150–102 Ma), and arc migration (102–86 Ma). During the Late Palaeozoic to Early Mesozoic, the eastern segment of the Palaeo–Tethys Ocean closed, resulting in the collision and amalgamation of the South and North Hainan Islands. However, the exact location of the collision and amalgamation remains controversial. The main collision locations are the Baisha, Jiusuo–Lingshui and Changjiang–Qionghai faults. The U–Pb age of detrital zircons was used to determine the main source area of the Middle Triassic basin in the eastern part of Hainan Island and the closed position of the eastern section of the Palaeo‐Tethys Ocean. The U–Pb dating of detrital zircons revealed that the Middle Triassic Lingwen Formation contains four age groups: 235–258, 335–446, 766–986 and >1000 Ma. Notably, rock masses aged 248–252 Ma that were formed in a post‐orogenic tension setting have been identified in the western region of Hainan Island, whereas no igneous rocks from this period have been discovered in the eastern region. The detrital zircon samples from the Lingwen Formation revealed a peak at 249 ± 2 Ma U–Pb age, which is important evidence indicating that the Changjiang–Qionghai Fault is the product of collision between the southern and northern Hainan terranes. Affected by the bipolar subduction of the eastern segment of the Palaeo‐Tethys Ocean, the collision and amalgamation of the South and North Hainan terranes occurred, and experienced a post‐collision (extensional) process at ca. 249 ± 2 Ma. The Bengal Basin is a well‐known foreland basin that archives the tectonic evolution of the Himalayan and Indo‐Burman Ranges (IBR). The Dupi Tila Formation is the youngest among the stratigraphic successions of the Bengal Basin, which witnessed the last phase of the Himalayan uplift. However, there is still controversy regarding sediment provenances since the Himalayan and IBR are in the late Neogene exhumation stage. In this study, the petrographical and geochemical compositions of the Dupi Tila sandstones from the Lalmai Anticline of the Bengal Basin are examined to infer the source rocks, tectonic settings, palaeoclimate and weathering intensity in provenance areas. The detrital modes and geochemical discriminations, as well as Chondrite‐normalized rare earth elements patterns with enrichment in light rare earth elements and nearly flat heavy rare earth elements and negative Eu anomalies (average Eu/Eu* = 0.77) indicate dominantly felsic source rocks. The geochemical data also suggest that these source rocks in provenance areas were influenced by weak to moderate chemical weathering (chemical index of alteration: 65.64–75.62) and multiple recycling under warm and humid to semi‐humid climatic conditions. The detrital zircon ages show three dominant peaks at ca. 100, 500 and 1000 Ma with minor 1700 Ma. The amount of young zircon grains (<120 Ma) is noticeably higher (~18%) in this Lalmai outcrop compared to the Dupi Tila samples from the Sylhet Trough and Chittagong‐Tripura Fold Belt. Results from integrated zircon geochronology and geochemistry indicate that the detritus are likely derived from a recycled orogen provenance related mainly to active continental margin setting with subordinate influence from passive setting. Therefore, the regionally extensive Himalayan Orogen appears to be the primary sediment source, with additional mixing from the IBR and recycled sediments originating from the Gangdese batholith of the Trans‐Himalaya. The spatiotemporal coupling relationship between deep hydrocarbon fluid and sandstone uranium mineralization within the shallow buried red‐variegated clastic rocks in the Qianjiadian area of the Songliao Basin remains a topic of controversy. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the source, nature and exudative age of deep exotic hydrocarbon, as well as the interaction mechanism and alteration process between hydrocarbon fluid and clastic rock. To achieve this, various methods were employed, including acidolysis hydrocarbon test (AHT), clay x‐ray diffraction (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), carbon isotope analysis (CIA) and LA‐ICP‐MS U–Pb isotopic dating. The results indicate that some tight sandstones from the Qingshankou Formation in Dalin uranium deposit exhibit high acidolysis hydrocarbon content (AHC), reaching n × 104 μL/kg, and predominantly consisting of low mature oil‐type gas. Local microscopic observations reveal pore fluorescence and hydrocarbon‐bearing inclusions with nattier blue tone. Furthermore, the kaolinites present in the ore area's sand‐bodies show a significantly higher content anomaly, commonly exceeding >50%, compared to the same layer in peripheral regions. Extensive dissolutions of lithic grains and feldspars are observed, along with the widespread occurrence of ferro‐dolomites and colloidal pyrites. Additionally, exotic asphaltenes are sporadically developed in localized areas. These findings provide evidence that the sand‐bodies experienced a significant exfiltration event of external gaseous fluids. The light carbon isotopes (δ13CV‐PDB ranging from −33.26‰ to −30.06‰) of group components and n‐Alkane suggest that the hydrocarbon originates from the source rock of the Lower Cretaceous Jiufotang Formation. A detailed two‐stage alteration sequence caused by acidic and reducing hydrocarbon is clarified, encompassing acidic corrosion, kaolinization, pyritization, silification and asphaltization during the exudation stage, followed by ferro‐dolomitization in the later cessation stage. Notably, vermicular secondary kaolinites, formed through the interaction between acidic hydrocarbon fluid and low‐temperature meteoric groundwater, serve as significant markers for the exfiltration of deep hydrocarbon fluid. In‐situ U–Pb dating of hydrocarbon‐bearing ferro‐dolomite yielded absolute exfiltration ages of 63.54 ± 4.13 and 65.93 ± 3.35 Ma. By integrating the tectonic–sedimentary–fluid evolution history and uranium mineralization characteristics in the study area, a three‐stage superimposed metallogenic model is proposed for the Upper Cretaceous red‐variegated layers: (1) the sedimentary and diagenetic stage of the target layer during the Late Cretaceous, (2) the predominant hydrocarbon exudation stage at the end of the Late Cretaceous, and (3) the main uranium mineralization stage since the Paleogene. This study enhances our understanding of coupled‐genetic sandstone‐type uranium deposit in a sedimentary basin and provides valuable guidance for prospecting similar red‐variegated beds in the Songliao Basin and other sedimentary basins worldwide. The unexpected discovery of felsic magma by the Iceland Deep Drilling Project-1 (IDDP-1) in the Krafla volcanic system (KVS) presents a unique opportunity to investigate pre-eruptive lithium (Li) dynamics and establish a more direct connection between magma reservoirs and volcanic deposits. Our study provides new insights into Li abundances and isotope compositions in bulk-rock, minerals, and groundmass glass from rhyolitic lavas at KVS, encompassing various stages of groundmass crystallisation. Additionally, we examined felsic cuttings retrieved from the IDDP-1 well, comprising crystal-poor obsidian and crystal-bearing to -rich 'felsite' particles. Groundmass glasses from surface lavas show limited variability in K/Na, indicating limited secondary hydration of the glasses and that their Li contents seem to not be affected by this post-eruptive process. Lithium inventories in groundmass glasses and minerals within lavas exhibit variations consistent with the cooling history of the deposit, resembling patterns seen in Snake River Plain ignimbrites. Lithium contents of glassy rhyolitic lavas, whether bulk-rock (avg. 27.2 ± 3.1 μg/g) or groundmass glass (average 28.4 ± 4.7 μg/g), and their bulk isotopic compositions (avg. δ7Li =+ 4.4 ± 0.2‰) overlap with those observed in IDDP-1 obsidian cuts (avg. 24.9 μg/g Li in bulk, 28.6 ± 1.5 μg/g in groundmass glass, and δ7Li = 4.5 ± 0.2‰). Glassy lavas lacking spherulites may potentially preserve pristine magmatic Li element and isotope compositions, while areas with extensive groundmass crystallisation reveal Li enrichments in phenocrysts. Plagioclases in slowly cooled parts of the deposit record a two-fold increase in Li contents compared to plagioclase found in glassy counterparts, along with evidence of open-system degassing marked by heavier bulk Li isotope compositions and lower bulk Li contents of the crystallised lava portions (avg. δ7Li = +7.2 ± 0.1‰ and 7 ± 0.8 μg/g Li) relative to bulk glassy lithologies (avg. δ7Li = +4.1 ± 0.1‰ and 28 ± 2 μg/g Li). Partition coefficients derived from IDDP-1 cuts successfully predict Li inventories in vitrophyres of rhyolites on the surface of the KVS. Lithium isotope compositions of the crystal-rich IDDP-1 cuts are significantly heavier (avg. δ7Li = +7.2 ± 0.2‰) than lavas and IDDP-1 obsidian cuts, casting doubt on the notion that the IDDP-1 rhyolitic magma could result from the melting of felsite lenses in the KVS. Lithium contents in groundmass glasses within IDDP-1 crystal-rich cuts show higher Li contents (avg. 55.1–60.7 μg/g), correlating with the higher crystal content and an increase in other incompatible elements (avg. 250 μg/g Rb) relative to obsidian cuttings (avg. 75 μg/g Rb). The Komsomolsk tin-ore district is located along the Miao-Chan Ridge in the Middle Amur River area (Khabarovsk krai) within the Badzhal accretionary terrane of the Sikhote-Alin orogenic belt. This work presents new results of U–Pb zircon dating of tonalite from the Miao-Chan complex of the Silinka granite pluton (99.7 ± 1.1 Ma) and rhyolites of the lower part of the Kholdami Formation (98.4 ± 1.0 and 98.7 ± 1.2 Ma) from the northeastern part of the Komsomolsk district. The geochemical characteristics of the rocks studied show that granitoids of the Miao-Chan complex are I-type rocks and that synchronous rhyolites of the Kholdami Formation are highly aluminous and correspond to S-type rocks. New data on the composition and early Cenomanian age of the rocks make it possible to consider the ore-magmatic system of the Komsomolsk ore district as part of the previously identified Albian–Cenomanian igneous province of Pacific Asia. The Weining Beishan area of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located at on the western edge of the Helanshan tectonic belt, which is a tectonic joint among Alxa Block, Ordos Block, and North Qilian orogenic belt. However, the tectonic evolution of this area remains unclear due to the lack of magmatic information. This paper conducted researches on geochronology, geochemistry, and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes of the diorite porphyrites exposed in the Weining Beishan area. The zircon U-Pb dating yields two ages of 145.0 ± 1.1 and 146.2 ± 1.5 Ma, and the whole-rock geochemical data indicate that the diorite porphyrites are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous and high-K calc-alkaline series. The characteristics of highly initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.708 16 to 0.710 47), negative εNd(t) (−8.9 to −8.4), and negative εHf(t) (−13.8 to −21.2) indicate that the diorite porphyrites originated from partial melting of the middle-lower ancient crust related to the North China Craton. Combined with the regional geology, we suggested that partial melting was triggered by a tectonic activity of deep faults cutting through the crust under the regional stress transformation from compressing to extension during the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous, which is probably related to the westward subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate. Early Paleozoic magmatism in the West Kunlun Orogenic Belt (WKOB) preserves important information about the tectonic evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. This paper reports whole-rock compositions, zircon and apatite U-Pb dating, and zircon Hf isotopes for the Qiaerlong Pluton (QEL) at the northwestern margin of WKOB, with the aim of elucidating the petrogenesis of the pluton and shedding insights into the subduction-collision process of this oceanic slab. The QEL is mainly composed of Ordovician quartz monzodiorite (479 ± 3 Ma), quartz monzonite (467–472 Ma), and syenogranite (463 ± 4 Ma), and is intruded by Middle Silurian peraluminous granite (429 ± 20 Ma) and diabase (421 ± 4 Ma). Zircon εHf(t) values reveal that quartz monzodiorites (+2.1 to +9.9) and quartz monzonites (+0.6 to +6.8) were derived from a mixed source of juvenile crust and older lower crust, and syenogranites (−5.6 to +4.5) and peraluminous granites (−2.9 to +2.0) were generated from a mixed source of lower crust and upper crust; diabases had zircon εHf(t) values ranging from −0.3 to +4.1, and contained 463 ± 5 Ma captured zircon and 1 048 ± 39 Ma inherited zircon, indicating they originated from enriched lithospheric mantle and were contaminated by crustal materials. The Ordovician granitoids are enriched in LILEs and light rare-earth elements, and depleted in HFSEs with negative Nb, Ta, P, and Ti anomalies, suggesting that they formed in a subduction environment. Middle Silurian peraluminous granites have the characteristics of leucogranites with high SiO2 contents (74.92 wt.%–75.88 wt.%) and distinctly negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.03–0.14), indicating that they belong to highly fractionated granite and were formed in a post-collision extension setting. Comparative analysis of these results with other Early Paleozoic magmas reveals that the Proto-Tethys ocean closed before the Middle Silurian and its southward subduction resulted in the formation of QEL. Post‐collisional magmatism contains important clues for understanding the reworking and growth of continental crust, as well as lithospheric delamination and orogenic collapse. Early Devonian magmatism has been identified in the North Qilian Orogenic Belt (NQOB). This paper reports an integrated study of petrology, whole‐rock geochemistry, Sm‐Nd isotope and zircon U‐Pb dating, as well as Lu‐Hf isotopic data, for two Early Devonian intrusive plutons. The Yongchang and Chijin granites yield zircon U‐Pb ages of 394–407 Ma and 414 Ma, respectively. Both of them are characterized by weakly peraluminous to metaluminous without typical aluminium‐rich minerals, LREE‐enriched patterns with negative Eu anomalies and a negative correlation between P2O5 and SiO2 contents, consistent with geochemical features of I‐type granitoids. Zircons from the studied granites display negative to weak positive εHf(t) values (–5.7 to 2.1), which agree well with those of negative εNd(t) values (−6.4 to −2.9) for the whole‐rock samples, indicating that they were derived from the partial melting of Mesoproterozoic crust. Furthermore, low Sr/Y ratios (1.13–21.28) and high zircon saturation temperatures (745°C to 839°C, with the majority being >800°C) demonstrated a relatively shallow depth level below the garnet stability field and an additional heat source. Taken together, the Early Devonian granitic magmatism could have been produced by the partial melting of ancient crustal materials heated by mantle‐derived magmas at high‐temperature and low‐pressure conditions during post‐collisional extensional collapse. The data obtained in this study, when viewed in conjunction with previous studies, provides more information about the tectonic processes that followed the closure of the North Qilian Ocean. The tectonic transition from continental collision to post‐collisional delamination could be constrained to ∼430 Ma, which is provided by the sudden decrease of Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios and an increase in zircon εHf(t) values for granitoids. A two‐stage tectonic evolution model from continental collision to post‐collisional extensional collapse for the NQOB includes (a) continental collision and crustal thickening during ca. 455–430 Ma, characterized by granulite‐facies metamorphism and widespread low‐Mg adakitic magmatism; (b) post‐collisional delamination of thickened continental crust and extensional collapse of orogen during ca. 430–390 Ma, provided by coeval high‐Mg adakitic magmatism, A‐type granites and I‐type granitoids with low Sr‐Y ratios. Xiazhuang uranium ore field, located in the southern part of the Nanling Metallogenic Belt, is considered one of the largest granite‐related U regions in South China. In this paper, we contribute new apatite fission track data and thermal history modeling to constrain the exhumation history and evaluate preservation potential of the Xiazhuang Uranium ore field. Nine Triassic outcrop granite samples collected from different locations of Xiazhuang Uranium ore field yield AFT ages ranging from 43 to 24 Ma with similar mean confined fission track lengths ranging from 11.8 ± 2.0 to 12.9 ± 1.9 μm and Dpar values between 1.01 and 1.51 μm. The robustness time‐temperature reconstructions of samples from the hanging wall of Huangpi fault show that the Xiazhuang Uranium ore field experienced a time of monotonous and slow cooling starting from middle Paleocene to middle Miocene (∼60–10 Ma), followed by relatively rapid exhumation in the late Miocene (∼10–5 Ma) and nearly thermal stability in the Pliocene–Quaternary (∼5–0 Ma). The amount of exhumation after U mineralization since the Middle Paleogene was estimated as ∼4.3 ± 1.8 km according to the integrated thermal history model. Previous studies indicate that the ore‐forming ages of U deposits in the Xiazhuang ore field are mainly before Middle Paleocene and the mineralization depths are more than 4.4 ± 1.2 km. The ultrahigh‐pressure (UHP) eclogites from the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan, which formed by the deep subduction of the Indian plate beneath the Asian plate in the Eocene, contain complex metamorphic vein systems (including both isolated veins and vein networks), with mineral assemblages of epidote + quartz + kyanite + phengite ± omphacite ± garnet. The investigations on the Kaghan UHP eclogite‐vein systems provide important insights into the mechanism and timing of metamorphic dehydration, fluid flow, and fluid–rock interaction in the deeply subducted Indian continental slab as well as the chemical characteristics of slab‐derived, aqueous fluids. Abundant lawsonite pseudomorphs, characterized by prismatic aggregates of epidote, kyanite, and quartz porphyroblasts, are first recognized in the Kaghan eclogites. This observation, in combination with the occurrence of coesite pseudomorphs in epidote porphyroblasts as well as the coexistence of epidote and coesite in the eclogite zircon, indicates the previous existence of UHP lawsonite in these eclogites. Petrological studies and phase equilibrium modelling reveal clockwise P–T trajectories for the Kaghan eclogites that are featured by prograde vectors in lawsonite‐stability regions with peak conditions of 3.0–3.4 GPa/650–690°C, followed by isothermal decompression and lawsonite breakdown under UHP conditions during the initial exhumation stage. The results of metamorphic evolution, together with in situ epidote and bulk Sr isotopic analyses, indicate that the fluids responsible for vein systems are most likely derived from the breakdown of UHP lawsonite in the eclogites. SIMS U–Pb dating of metamorphic zircons from the eclogites, integrated with the Raman analysis of inclusions in zircons, indicates that the UHP dehydration of eclogites occurred at 46.4 ± 1.2 and 46.8 ± 0.9 Ma. Analyses of hydrothermal zircons from the veins yielded slightly younger ages of 44.7 ± 1.0 and 44.9 ± 1.4 Ma, which represent the timing of fluid flow and/or vein crystallization during exhumation of the UHP rocks. Mass‐balance calculation results, in combination with the vein compositions, show that the fluid flow and fluid‐eclogite interaction led to the transfer of Si, Al, Ca, K, and incompatible trace elements from the eclogites into the fluids, from which the vein systems crystallized. This study indicates cold deep subduction of Indian continental crust along low geothermal gradients (6–7°C/km). The UHP fluid liberation and channelized fluid flow occurred during the initial exhumation of the cold Indian slab and are expected to induce the transfer of H2O and incompatible trace elements from the Indian slab to the Asian lithosphere, which potentially contributes to the formation of post‐collisional magmas. Moreover, we suggest that metamorphic vein systems in UHP lawsonite eclogites offer important constraints on the occurrence and timing of fast slab exhumation in continental subduction‐collision zones. This paper presents the results of mineralogical, geochemical, isotope, and geochemical (Sm–Nd) studies of siltstones from the upper Bystraya subformation of the Argun continental massif, as well as U–Pb dating of detrital zircon grains from them. The main goal of the research was to identify the main sources of clastic material, to reconstruct the paleogeodynamic environment of accumulation, and to constrain the lower age limit for the formation of terrigenous rocks of the upper Bystraya subformation. The mineralogical composition of the studied rocks indicates their accumulation in an environment associated with subduction processes. The trace element composition of siltstones from the subformation suggests the presence of rocks of mixed composition in the source area in terms of their silica content. Based on Sm–Nd isotope and geochemical data, it was established that the main sources of clastic material for siltstones of the stratigraphic unit were Paleoproterozoic rocks and (or) younger rocks whose formation is associated with the reworking of the Paleoproterozoic continental crust. Most of the zircons from the studied siltstone sample of the upper Bystraya subformation are Neo- and Paleoproterozoic in age. Their sources are probably Neo- and Paleoproterozoic igneous rocks widespread within the Argun massif in China. The ages of the youngest zircons (556 ± 9 and 566 ± 10 Ma) isolated from siltstones of the upper Bystraya subformation were used to constrain the lower limit of their accumulation at the middle Ediacaran. Experimentally calibrated models to recover pressures and temperatures of magmas are widely used in igneous petrology. However, large errors, especially in barometry, limit the capacity of these models to resolve the architecture of crustal igneous systems. Here, we apply machine learning to a large experimental database to calibrate new regression models that recover P–T of magmas based on melt composition plus associated phase assemblage. The method is applicable to compositions from basalt to rhyolite, pressures from 0.2 to 15 kbar, and temperatures of 675°C to 1400°C. Testing and optimisation of the model with a filter that removes estimates with standard deviation above the 50th percentile show that pressures can be recovered with root-mean-square-error (RMSE) of 1.1 to 1.3 kbar and errors on temperature estimates of 21°C. Our findings demonstrate that, given constraints on the coexisting mineral assemblage, melt chemistry is a reliable recorder of magmatic variables. This is a consequence of the relatively low thermodynamic variance of natural magma compositions despite their relatively large number of constituent oxide components. We apply our model to two contrasting cases with well-constrained geophysical information: Mount St. Helens volcano (USA), and Askja caldera in Iceland. Dacite whole-rocks from Mount St Helens erupted 1980 to 1986, inferred to represent liquids extracted from cpx–hbl–opx–plag–mt–ilm mush, yield melt extraction source pressures of 5.1 to 6.7 kbar in excellent agreement with geophysical constraints. Melt inclusions and matrix glasses record lower pressures (0.7–3.8 kbar), consistent with magma crystallisation within the upper reaches of the imaged geophysical anomaly and during ascent. Magma reservoir depth estimates for historical eruptions from Askja match the location of seismic wave speed anomalies. Vp/Vs anomalies at 5 to 10 km depth correspond to hot (~990°C) rhyolite source regions, while basaltic magmas (~1120°C) were stored at 7 to 17 km depth under the caldera. These examples illustrate how our model can link petrology and geophysics to better constrain the architecture of volcanic feeding systems. The Ora Ignimbrite (~275 Ma) is a crystal-rich (~40%), heterogeneous, supereruption-sized (~1300 km3) rhyolite in northern Italy and the final eruptive product of the Athesian Volcanic Group (289–274 Ma), the largest Permian volcanic district in Europe. Two key outcrops, an intracaldera vitrophyre and an outflow vitrophyre, contain well-preserved, glass-bearing juvenile material. We investigate at what scale heterogeneities existed in the Ora magmatic system by studying the geochemical and petrological characteristics of crystal-rich (20–50%) and crystal-poor (<20%) fiamme from the Ora vitrophyres, allowing us to reconstruct critical aspects of Ora's magmatic architecture and pre-eruptive history and granting us further insight into the storage and dynamic processes that occur in large, crystal-rich, silicic systems. Textural analysis of fiamme reveals four types: the intracaldera vitrophyre has very coarse-grained crystal-rich (VCCR) and fine-grained crystal-poor (I-FCP) fiamme, while the outflow vitrophyre has coarse-grained crystal-rich (CCR) and fine-grained crystal-poor (O-FCP) fiamme. The diversity of crystal-poor (I-FCP & O-FCP) fiamme glass trace-element compositions suggests that multiple small crystal-poor magma bodies were dispersed throughout the Ora magmatic system. Compositionally and texturally distinct glass types in single O-FCP fiamme preserve evidence of variable degrees of magma mixing and record different mingling to eruption timescales, revealing that the Ora magmatic system experienced multiple silicic recharge events. In the crystal-rich (VCCR & CCR) fiamme, high crystal contents (VCCR: 40–50%; CCR: 20–40%), large crystals (max grain size: VCCR: 4–10 mm; CCR: 3–4 mm), and interlocking growth textures suggest that these fiamme contain parcels of disaggregated magma mush. High-silica rhyolite glass compositions (77.2–78.3 wt.% SiO2) and extremely depleted Sr (VCCR: <20; CCR: <5 ppm) and Ba (VCCR: <70; CCR: <20 ppm) glass trace-element concentrations indicate that the crystal-rich fiamme glasses represent highly fractionated melts. Crystal-rich fiamme glass trace-element compositions also form discrete, tightly clustered populations, suggesting that multiple crystal-rich, melt-dominated magma bodies existed prior to eruption. We propose that the coexistence of large-scale heterogeneity (e.g. deposit-scale and outcrop-scale) with small-scale homogeneity observed in crystal-rich fiamme is resolved by a model in which at least two separate magma reservoirs, each containing multiple melt-dominant magma bodies, erupted to form the Ora Ignimbrite. The major- and trace-element compositions of amphiboles in andesite from Quaternary Yufu Volcano, northeastern Kyushu, Japan were analysed to investigate the generation processes of andesitic magma from Yufu Volcano. The amphiboles in andesite from Yufu volcano can be divided into two groups based on major-element composition: pargasite and magnesio-hornblende. To estimate temperature, pressure, and major- and trace-element compositions of melts in equilibrium with amphiboles, we used the recently proposed methods that can calculate temperature, pressure, major element compositions, and partition coefficients of trace-element between amphibole and melt using only the major-element compositions of amphibole. The estimated temperature, pressure, and major-element composition of melt in equilibrium with the amphibole phenocrysts indicate that each group crystallised under different conditions. These differences suggest that two magma chambers at different depths existed beneath Yufu Volcano and that the andesitic magma of Yufu Volcano was formed by mixing of the two magmas. The trace-element compositions of melts in equilibrium with the pargasite and magnesio-hornblende, estimated by applying the partition coefficients calculated from major-element compositions of amphibole to trace-element compositions of amphiboles, indicate magma derived from slab melt and the partial melting of crustal material, respectively. Because magma is a mixture of minerals and melt, we estimate the chemical compositional ranges of the two end-member magmas on the Y versus SiO2 diagram from the mixing relationship between amphibole and estimated melt, as well as phenocrysts of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and orthopyroxene. The overlap of the estimated compositional range with the trend of whole-rock composition represents the chemical compositions of the end-members of magma mixing, yielding estimates of the mafic (SiO2 ≈ 45 wt %) and felsic (SiO2 ≈ 68 wt %) end-member magmas. Furthermore, we estimate the concentrations of other elements in the end-member magmas by substituting the estimated SiO2 concentrations of the magmas into linear regression equations between the whole-rock contents of other elements and SiO2. The trace-element compositions of the mafic and felsic end-member magmas, as estimated in this study, have similar features to those of gabbroids and Cretaceous granitic rocks, respectively, that are presumed to lie beneath Yufu Volcano. While thermochronological studies have constrained the landscape evolution of several of the crustal blocks of West and East Antarctica, the tectono-thermal evolution of the Ellsworth Mountains remains relatively poorly constrained. These mountains are among the crustal blocks that comprise West Antarctica and exhibit an exceptionally well-preserved Palaeozoic sedimentary sequence. Despite the seminal contribution of Fitzgerald and Stump (1991), who suggested an Early Cretaceous uplift event for the Ellsworth Mountains, further thermochronological studies are required to improve the current understanding of the landscape evolution of this mountain chain. We present new zircon (U–Th) / He (ZHe) ages, which provide insights into the landscape evolution of the Ellsworth Mountains. The ZHe ages collected from near the base and the top of the sequence suggest that these rocks underwent burial reheating after deposition. A cooling event is recorded during the Jurassic–Early Cretaceous, which we interpret as representing exhumation in response to rock uplift of the Ellsworth Mountains. Moreover, our results show that while ZHe ages at the base of the sequence are fully reset, towards the top ZHe ages are partially reset. Uplift and exhumation of the Ellsworth Mountains during the Jurassic–Early Cretaceous was contemporaneous with the rotation and translation of this crustal block with respect to East Antarctica and possibly the Antarctic Peninsula. Furthermore, this period is characterized by widespread extension associated with the disassembly and breakup of Gondwana, with the Ellsworth Mountains playing a key role in the opening of the far southern Atlantic. Based on these results, we suggest that uplift of the Ellsworth Mountains during the disassembly of Gondwana provides additional evidence for major rearrangement of the crustal blocks between the South American, African, Australian and Antarctic plates. Finally, uplift of the Ellsworth Mountains commenced during the Jurassic, which predates the Early Cretaceous uplift of the Transantarctic Mountains. We suggest that the rift-related exhumation of the Ellsworth Mountains occurred throughout two events: (i) a Jurassic uplift associated with the disassembly of southwestern Gondwana and (ii) an Early Cretaceous uplift related with the separation between Antarctica and Australia, which is also recorded in the Transantarctic Mountains. The evolution of the local stress field of faults under tectonic stresses is crucial to predict earthquakes. In this study, we investigated the stress sensitivity of an analogue fault model with dimensions of 2 m × 1 m × 1 m, prepared from cement, gypsum, river sand, putty powder, and borax mixture. The angle between the fault strike and the maximum stress direction was varied, and the variation in the stress near the analogue fault (area 1200 × 400 mm; width 5 mm) was determined. The crack growth law of the analogue fault was found to be consistent with a simple Riedel shear model. A main strike-displacement zone was formed, and its direction was parallel to that of the analogue fault. Fault development was described by three stages based on stress–strain relationships: a nucleus stage, a stable growth, and an unstable growth stage. The deflection angle (the deflection angle of the local principal stresses) range of the local stress field was (− 45°, 45°), and it varied most significantly in the nucleus stage. The closer to the fault, the greater the variation range in the deflection angle. The variation range was greater in the fault compression quadrants than in the dilatation quadrants. The correlation between the deflection angle and the relative deformation velocity of the fault was stronger in the stable growth stage than in the other stages. In this stage, the angle–deformation–velocity correlation could be well fitted using a logistic trend model. These findings can be of importance to better understand the nucleation and mechanisms of fault slip-induced earthquakes under varying fault-strike-stress conditions. Simultaneous U–Pb and U–Th dating using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was performed on the ca. 0.1 Ma Toya tephra and the ca. 0.08 Ma SS14-28 U–Th zircon reference material. In U–Pb dating, both Th/U and Pa/U partitioning between magma and minerals were considered. In U–Th dating, both abundance sensitivity and molecular interferences on 230Th were reevaluated. As a result, the Toya tephra yielded an accurate weighted mean U–Pb age of 0.103 ± 0.029 Ma (2σ) using zircon and monazite. Conversely, the SS14-28 zircon yielded an inaccurate U–Pb age (0.25 ± 0.10 Ma), which was attributed to low 206Pb signal intensity. Both the Toya tephra zircon and the SS14-28 zircon yielded accurate U–Th model ages of 0.108 ± 0.014 Ma and 0.078 ± 0.007 Ma, respectively. The agreement of U–Pb and U–Th ages for Toya indicates that simultaneous U–Pb and U–Th dating is possible and viable. The inappropriate age of SS14-28 U–Pb age and appropriate U–Th model age also indicates it is preferable to apply both U–Pb and U–Th dating simultaneously for young (<0.4 Ma) zircons to check internal consistency. The proposed double dating approach may be especially useful for small grains when it otherwise would be impossible to obtain multiple ages from a single grain. By adopting simultaneous U–Pb and U–Th dating using LA-ICP-MS, zircon crystallization ages as old as 4.5 Ga to as young as 0.1 Ma (or even younger) can be obtained in a quick and cost-effective manner with a reasonable (~5% at 1σ) uncertainty. The large-sized Tarangaole uranium deposit and its neighboring Daying and Nalinggou deposits, located in the northeastern margin of the Ordos Basin, constitutes a major uranium resource base in northern China. In order to further clarify the sedimentary material source, uranium source and regional sediment–tectonic setting of the uranium-fed clastic rocks (i.e., Zhiluo Formation(J2z)) in the district, this paper carried out whole-rock geochemistry, heavy minerals composition and in situ U-Pb dating of detrital zircons for sandstones from the lower section of the Zhiluo Formation. The results have shown that the average chemical differentiation index (CIA) for the host rocks is 73.16 and the chemical weathering degree is moderate. Heavy minerals are mainly composed of ilmenite, garnet, chlorpyrite, zircon, pyrite, apatite, hematite, etc. The U-Pb dating of detrital zircon generally indicates three age peaks, i.e., 260~Ma, 1850~Ma and 2450~Ma, respectively. In conclusion, the source rocks may have been formed at active continental margins, e.g., in a continental margin arc environment. The sedimentary materials mainly come from khondalite series, TTGs, granulite, and mafic–ultramafic intrusive rocks distributed among the Daqing–Ula Mountains and adjacent areas, etc. The Late Paleozoic U-rich intermediate and acidic magmatic rocks spreading over the eastern part of the Ula–Daqing and Wolf mountains have provided the main uranium sources for the formation of major U deposits in the northern Ordos Basin. Crystal‐hosted melt embayments and melt inclusions partially record magmatic processes at depth, but it is not always obvious how to interpret this record. One impediment is our incomplete understanding of how embayments and melt inclusions form. In this study, we investigate the formation mechanism of embayments and melt inclusions during quartz growth to quantify the relationship between the compositions of the entrapped and average melt. We study the growth of embayments and inclusions through direct numerical simulations that couple the growth of a crystal surface with the evolution of the concentrations of incompatible components in the surrounding melt. We find that H2O is more enriched in the interior of defects on crystal surface compared to the exterior. The resultant lower disequilibrium in the defect interior causes lower growth rate than in the exterior, elongating the defect into an embayment. If crystal growth stops, the composition in the embayment equilibrates with the average melt within days to months. If crystal growth continues until the embayment neck closes, a melt inclusion forms. The melt entrapped by both embayments and melt inclusions is enriched in incompatible components, such as H2O and CO2. In addition to inclusion size, the enrichment of incompatible components in melt inclusions also depends on component diffusivity and the crystal growth regime. High‐diffusivity components like H2O have similar enrichment levels in all scenarios, while lower‐diffusivity components like CO2 are more enriched in melt inclusions with smaller sizes or formed in continuous crystal growth. Plain Language Summary: Embayments and melt inclusions are small droplets of melt entrapped by crystals. These droplets may contain valuable clues for understanding processes inside volcanoes inaccessible to direct observation, because they typically form at depth before the onset of eruptions. Embayments are partially connected to exterior melt and can record processes during eruption. Melt inclusions are fully isolated and can record magma compositions at depth. However, we do not yet understand how they form. Our lack of understanding hinders our ability to interpret this data. Here, we use numerical simulations to quantify how the enrichment of dissolved water in the melt near the crystal affects the formation of embayments and melt inclusions during quartz growth. There is a positive feedback between the water enrichment in the embayment interior and embayment elongation, because water is not integrated into the quartz as it grows. Our simulations put constraints on the application of embayments and melt inclusions to constrain volcanic processes: For embayments, component enrichment likely equilibrates with surrounding melt prior to eruption. For melt inclusions, high‐diffusivity components like water are similarly enriched in all scenarios, while lower‐diffusivity components like carbon dioxide are more enriched in smaller inclusions formed in continuous crystal growth. The thermoelastic properties and thermal expansion of natural single-crystal zircon without detectable radiation damage were determined in the temperature range between 100 and 1650 K on five samples from Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Up to about 1500 K, the results are in excellent agreement and fully reversible. The average adiabatic elastic stiffness coefficients at room temperature in GPa are c11 = 426.8(6), c12 = 68.1(4), c13 = 152.0(4), c33 = 490.8(9), c44 = 113.1(2), and c66 = 49.0(1). Polycrystalline averaging for the aggregate bulk and shear modulus (Voigt-Reuss-Hill average) yields K = 229.3(4) GPa and G = 109.3(1) GPa. From 293 to 1573 K, the elastic stiffnesses soften almost linearly with the temperature coefficients in MPa/K: dc11/dT = –45.36(7), dc12/dT = –2.03(7), dc13/dT= –9.59(7), dc33/dT = –42.85(12), dc44/dT = –9.60(3), and dc66/dT = –2.19(1). Below room temperature, the behavior of the cij is nonlinear, with decreasing absolute values of the temperature coefficients. Above about 1500 K, a temperature- and time-dependent irreversible elastic stiffening accompanied by an increasing ultrasound dissipation was observed in all samples. Arc-arc amalgamation occurs during the evolution of composite orogens at convergent plate margins and plays a critical role in controlling accretionary patterns and processes. The eastern Junggar terrane in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt underwent a long-lived subduction-accretion process in the Paleozoic, but whether and how the Yemaquan and Dananhu-Harlik arcs were amalgamated remain debatable. A systematic U-Pb-Hf-O isotopic study was conducted on zircons from Silurian granitic rocks in the Yemaquan arc. The U-Pb dating results suggest that these rocks were emplaced at 433-422 Ma and inherited abundant 536-435 Ma zircons representing a predominant magmatic episode in the Yemaquan arc. Their positive εHf(t) values and young Hf model ages indicate that the Yemaquan arc is dominated by juvenile basement with significant crustal growth during the Neoproterozoic to early Paleozoic. The variations in zircon Eu/Eu*, εHf(t), and δ18O values reveal that the Yemaquan arc experienced remarkable crustal thickening and remobilization at ca. 450 Ma, similar to the northern Dananhu-Harlik arc, and this was followed by extension that initiated at ca. 420 Ma. These features support the amalgamation of these two arcs occurring ca. 450-420 Ma. Integrated with regional data, we correlated this amalgamation event in the eastern Junggar terrane with the orogenic event in the Chinese Altai terrane, and we propose a middle Paleozoic tectonic evolution model in the eastern Junggar-Altai area from arc assembly to dispersal in association with a transition in accretionary mode.
