Furthermore, we examined the association of age and education on executive function.Patients and Methods: A total of 230 (40.90 ± 8.83 years, F/M = 45/185) participants were enrolled. Overnight electroencephalogram (C3-M2) recording detected sleep spindles by a novel U-Net-type neural network that integrates temporal information with time-frequency images. Sleep spindle metrics, including frequency (Hz), overall density (events/min), fast density (events/min), slow density (events/min), duration (sec) and amplitude (μV), were measured. Executive function was assessed using standardized neuropsychological tests. Associations between sleep spindle metrics, executive function, and demographic factors were analyzed using multivariate linear regression.Results: In fully adjusted linear regression models, higher overall sleep spindle density (TMT-A, B=− 1.279, p=0.009; TMT-B, B=− 1.813, p=0.008), fast sleep spindle density (TMT-A, B=− 1.542, p=0.048; TMT-B, B=− 2.187, p=0.036) and slow sleep spindle density (TMT-A, B=− 1.731, p=0.037; TMT-B, B=− 2.449, p=0.034) were associated with better executive function. And the sleep spindle duration both during N2 sleep time (TMT-A, B=− 13.932, p=0.027; TMT-B, B=− 19.001, p=0.034) and N3 sleep time (TMT-B, B=− 29.916, p=0.009; Stroop-incongruous, B=− 21.303, p=0.035) was independently associated with better executive function in this population. Additionally, age and education were found to be highly associated with executive function.Conclusion: Specific sleep spindle metrics, higher overall density, fast density and slow density during N2 sleep time, and longer duration during N2 and N3 sleep time, are independent and sensitive indicators of better executive function in young adult and middle-aged patients with OSA. Value engineering analysis is a methodical approach used to find and eliminate superfluous expenses within various domains such as projects, processes, and the construction industry, with the aim of improving both quality and performance. In order to achieve a harmonious equilibrium between time, money, and quality, the present circumstances and methodologies within the construction sector of Myanmar necessitate a substantial amount of dedication and exertion. Due to this rationale, value engineering (VE) is an established management approach that facilitates the enhancement of project value and the realization of cost savings in construction projects. The objective of this study was to identify alternative materials that are more cost-effective than the original design for the exterior of the hospital building, while ensuring that the chosen materials retain their inherent value. Based on the findings of the study, the implementation of value engineering techniques resulted in a cost reduction of up to 7.6 percent for the façade work. This research assesses the financial benefits derived from the use of Value Engineering (VE) in a six-story hospital located in Yangon. The study specifically focuses on the utilization of materials of intermediate grade for the facade construction. This research endeavor aims to contribute to the existing corpus of knowledge on value engineering by conducting a comprehensive analysis of a specific case study.

In Brief: Animal studies are needed to inform clinical guidance on the effects of testosterone gender-affirming hormone therapy (T-GAHT) on fertility. This review summarizes current animal models of T-GAHT and identifies gaps in knowledge for future study., Abstract: Testosterone gender affirming hormone therapy (T-GAHT) is frequently used by transgender and gender-diverse individuals assigned female at birth to establish masculinizing characteristics. Although many seek parenthood, particularly as a gestational parent or through surrogacy, the current standard guidance of fertility counseling for individuals on testosterone (T) lacks clarity. At this time, individuals are typically recommended to undergo fertility preservation or stop treatment, associating T-therapy with a loss of fertility; however, there is an absence of consistent information regarding the true fertility potential for transgender and gender-diverse adults and adolescents. This review evaluates recent studies that utilize animal models of T-GAHT to relate to findings from clinical studies, with a more specific focus on fertility. Relevant literature based on murine models in post- and pre-pubertal populations has suggested reversibility of the impacts of T-GAHT, alone or following gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa), on reproduction. These studies reported changes in clitoral area and ovarian morphology, including corpora lutea, follicle counts, and ovarian weights from T-treated mice. Future studies should aim to determine the impact of the duration of T-treatment and cessation on fertility outcomes, as well as establish animal models that are clinically representative of these outcomes with respect to gender diverse populations.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is considered one of the major causes of sleep disorders and psychological disorders in individuals. Brain asymmetry (BA) demonstrates individual hemispheric activity and psychological disorders. This study aimed to explore the characteristics of BA and psychology in OSA., Methods: Enrolment of patients for sleep assessment at the Sleep Medicine Center. Clinical characteristics, handedness, and psychological scales were prospectively collected from subjects. Subsequently, EEG power in alpha, beta, and theta bilaterally was calculated for the rest and sleep phases., Results: A total of 152 OSA and 21 non-OSA subjects were included in the study. In the frontal, central and occipital regions, OSA exhibited increased interhemispheric asymmetry with increasing apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) during rest and sleep. Simultaneously, the results showed that greater activity in the right hemisphere was positively associated with anxiety and extraversion, while inversely with positive and lie scale. In addition, the results show that OSA contributes to abnormal BA fluctuations during sleep., Conclusions: Our results suggest that sleep disorders associated with apnea-hypopnea and arousal may contribute to increased BA during sleep. The primary challenge in percutaneous coronary interventions for vascular restenosis is the occurrence of restenosis, which is defined by the excessive proliferation of neointimal tissue. Herein, our research team suggests that exosomes obtained from PSC, when paired with quercetin (Q@PSC-E), successfully reduce neointimal hyperplasia in a Sprague-Dawley rat model. Furthermore, the physical properties of the synthesized Q@PSC-E were examined using UV-vis, DLS, and FT-IR characterization techniques. The rats were subjected to balloon injury (BI) utilizing a 2-Fr Fogarty arterial embolectomy balloon catheter. Intimal hyperplasia and the degree of VSMC proliferation were evaluated using histological analysis in the rat groups that received a dosage of Q@PSC-E at 30 mg/kg/d. Significantly, Q@PSC-E inhibited cell proliferation through a pathway that does not include lipoxygenase, as demonstrated by [ 3 H] thymidine incorporation, MTT, and flow cytometry studies. Additionally, the data indicate that Q@PSC-E hinders cell proliferation by targeting particular events that promote cell growth, including the activation of Akt and NF-κB, disruption of cell-cycle progression and also obstructs the ERK signaling pathway., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc. Iron-nitrogen-carbon (Fe-N-C) materials have been identified as a promising class of platinum (Pt)-free catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the dissolution and oxidation of Fe atoms severely restrict their long-term stability and performance. Modulating the active microstructure of Fe-N-C is a feasible strategy to enhance the ORR activity and stability. Compared with common 3d transition metals (Co, Ni, etc.), the 4d transition metal atom Nb has fewer d electrons and more unoccupied orbitals, which could potentially forge a more robust interaction with the Fe site to optimize the binding energy of the oxygen-containing intermediates while maintaining stability. Herein, an asymmetric Fe-Nb diatomic site catalyst (FeNb/c-SNC) was synthesized, which exhibited superior ORR performance and stability compared with those of Fe single-atom catalysts (SACs). The strong interaction within the Fe-Nb diatomic sites optimized the desorption energy of key intermediates (*OH), so that the adsorption energy of Fe-*OH approaches the apex of the volcano plot, thus exhibiting optimal ORR activity. More importantly, introducing Nb atoms could effectively strengthen the Fe-N bonding and suppress Fe demetalation, causing an outstanding stability. The zinc-air battery (ZAB) and hydroxide exchange membrane fuel cell (HEMFC) equipped with our FeNb/c-SNC could deliver high peak power densities of 314 mW cm -2 and 1.18 W cm -2 , respectively. Notably, the stable operation time for ZAB and HEMFC increased by 9.1 and 5.8 times compared to Fe SACs, respectively. This research offers further insights into developing stable Fe-based atomic-level catalytic materials for the energy conversion process.

High-efficiency electrocatalysis could serve as the bridge that connects renewable energy technologies, hydrogen economy and carbon capture/utilization, promising a sustainable future for humankind. It is therefore of paramount significance to explore feasible strategies to modulate the relevant electrocatalytic reactions and optimize device performances so as to promote their large-scale practical applications. Microenvironment regulation at the catalytic interface has been demonstrated to be capable of effectively enhancing the reaction rates and improving the selectivities for specific products. In this review we summarize the latest advances in microenvironment regulation in typical electrocatalytic processes (including water electrolysis, hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells, and carbon dioxide reduction) and the related in situ / operando characterization techniques and theoretical simulation methods. Purpose: The objective of this paper is to shed light on the current landscape of genotyping practices, phenotyping practices and availability of essential vision rehabilitation management for inherited retinal diseases (IRD) in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Region., Methods: The 62-item questionnaire was distributed electronically via email. The questions covered five domains: (1) structure of the IRD service and registry/database; (2) genotyping practices; (3) genetic counselling; (4) deep phenotyping practices; (5) low-vision rehabilitation services., Results: The survey was completed by 36 of 45 centres in twelve countries and regions in APAC. Among these centres, 42 % reported managing more than 1000 patients. Notably, 39 % of centres lack an IRD database or registry, and 44 % of centres have tested less than one-quarter of their IRD patients. The majority of centres (67 %) do not have genetic counsellors. While there was consistency in the imaging-based investigations, there was marked heterogeneity for functional testing using electrophysiology and formal perimetry. Only 34 % of centres confirmed the availability of access to low-vision assistive devices., Conclusions: This study reveals several critical gaps in managing IRDs in the APAC region. These include the lack of IRD database/registry in one-third of centres, a substantial proportion of patients remaining genetically undiagnosed, and limited availability of genetic counsellors. The findings also underscore a need to harmonise investigations for evaluating retinal function and identify areas for improvement in the provision of low-vision rehabilitation services., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a fatal neurological illness that worsens with time. Preventing the aggregate formation of amyloid beta protein is a promising approach to treat Alzheimer's disease. This article describes an amiable procedure for the synthesis of Olesoxime-Resveratrol (OLX-RSV) encapsulated in exosomes. By suppressing Aβ 1-42 aggregation and crossing the blood-brain barrier also known as BBB after intravenous treatment without resulting in any discernible damage, the nanocomposite demonstrated good biocompatibility. A variety of characterization technique including particle size, TEM, and in vitro drug release experiments, were used to characterize the exosomes. Human Neuroblastoma (SHSY5Y) cells were used to test the cytotoxicity and viability of cells of the formulation using the Cell Counting Kit-8 assay. The prepared OLX-RSV-loaded exosomes were tested for their ability to suppress Aβ 1-42 in SHSY5Y Cells by analyzing the amyloid samples using CD spectra. The effects of apoptosis on Human neuroblastoma cells were studied using cytofluorometry. The parameters of SOD, caspase-3 and the ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) were also evaluated. The behavioral outcomes of Morris water maze test demonstrated that OLX-RSV-loaded exosomes significantly enhanced the APP/PS1 mice's capacity to learn and remember spatial cues. Therefore, we hypothesized that OLX-RSV-loaded exosomes could be a useful and efficient method in the treatment of AD., (© 2024. During base excision repair (BER), the apurinic or apyrimidinic (AP) site serves as an intermediate product following base excision. In plants, APE-redox protein (ARP) represents the major AP site of cleavage activity. Despite the well-established understanding that the nucleosomal structure acts as a barrier to various DNA-templated processes, the regulatory mechanisms underlying BER at the chromatin level remain elusive, especially in plants. In this study, we identified plant chromatin remodeler Excision Repair Cross-Complementing protein group 6 (ERCC6) and histone chaperone Nucleosome Assembly Protein 1 (NAP1) as interacting proteins with ARP. The catalytic ATPase domain of ERCC6 facilitates its interaction with both ARP and NAP1. Additionally, ERCC6 and NAP1 synergistically contribute to nucleosome sliding and exposure of hindered endonuclease cleavage sites. Loss-of-function mutations in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) ERCC6 or NAP1 resulted in arp-dependent plant hypersensitivity to 5-fluorouracil, a toxic agent inducing BER, and the accumulation of AP sites. Furthermore, similar protein interactions are also found in yeast cells, suggesting a conserved recruitment mechanism employed by the AP endonuclease to overcome chromatin barriers during BER progression., Competing Interests: Conflict of interest statement. Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) are a group of rare genetic eye conditions that cause blindness. Despite progress in identifying genes associated with IRDs, improvements are necessary for classifying rare autosomal dominant (AD) disorders. AD diseases are highly heterogenous, with causal variants being restricted to specific amino acid changes within certain protein domains, making AD conditions difficult to classify. Here, we aim to determine the top-performing in-silico tools for predicting the pathogenicity of AD IRD variants. We annotated variants from ClinVar and benchmarked 39 variant classifier tools on IRD genes, split by inheritance pattern. Using area-under-the-curve (AUC) analysis, we determined the top-performing tools and defined thresholds for variant pathogenicity. Top-performing tools were assessed using genome sequencing on a cohort of participants with IRDs of unknown etiology. MutScore achieved the highest accuracy within AD genes, yielding an AUC of 0.969. When filtering for AD gain-of-function and dominant negative variants, BayesDel had the highest accuracy with an AUC of 0.997. Five participants with variants in NR2E3, RHO, GUCA1A, and GUCY2D were confirmed to have dominantly inherited disease based on pedigree, phenotype, and segregation analysis. We identified two uncharacterized variants in GUCA1A (c.428T>A, p.Ile143Thr) and RHO (c.631C>G, p.His211Asp) in three participants. Our findings support using a multi-classifier approach comprised of new missense classifier tools to identify pathogenic variants in participants with AD IRDs. Lately, interest surrounding the utilization of plant-derived compounds as a viable beneficial approach for treating Alzheimer's disease (AD) has significantly increased. This study aimed to assess the defensive properties of rosavin against Alzheimer's disease induced by amyloid-β, utilizing experimental models. We found that rosavin exhibited anti-aggregation and disaggregation properties, suggesting its potential to prevent the gathering of Aβ-aggregates. In vitro experiments revealed that rosavin effectively mitigated the neurotoxicity induced by Aβ in Neuro-2a cells, showcasing its protective potential. Rosavin significantly improved the Aβ-induced cognitive deficits in Wistar rats, particularly in spatial memory. Which the pathophysiology of AD includes oxidative damage, which negatively impacts biological macromolecules. Triggers the apoptotic process, causing macromolecular destruction. Interestingly, rosavin attenuated Aβ-induced macromolecular damages, thereby preserving neuronal integrity. Furthermore, the activation of antioxidative defense enzymes by rosavin inhibited oxidative damage. The positive outcomes associated with rosavin were primarily attributed to its capacity to enhance acetylcholine-mediated effects. Finally, rosavin has the potential to alleviate Aβ-induced neurotoxicity and macromolecular damages, ultimately resulting in enhanced memorial and reasoning function in Wistar rats, offering promising prospects for the treatment of AD., (© 2023. Purpose: To delineate the natural history of visual function parameters over time in individuals with Bietti crystalline dystrophy., Methods: This was a single-center retrospective longitudinal cohort study. Participants (n = 29) with a clinical diagnosis of Bietti crystalline dystrophy who harbored two alleles of disease-causing variants of the cytochrome P450 family 4 subfamily V member 2 gene (CYP4V2) were enrolled. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), visual field (VF), and full-field ERG (ffERG) at baseline and their changes during the follow-up period were evaluated. Annual progression rates were calculated using three methods., Results: The mean age at the initial visit was 34.2 ± 7.5 years, with 5.9 ± 3.1 years follow-up. The annual progression rate from the longitudinal analysis using averaged individual progression rates was 0.079 logMAR units for BCVA, 1.14 dB for mean defect (MD) value of VF, and -18.06 µV and -5.45 µV for the b-wave amplitudes of scotopic 3.0 ERG and photopic 3.0 ERG, respectively. Mixed-model linear regression revealed annual progression rates of 0.068 logMAR units, 0.86 dB, -13.29 µV, and -3.75 µV, respectively. Cross-sectional progression rates from visual function versus age at baseline were 0.011 logMAR units, 0.47 dB, -1.85 µV, and -1.07 µV, respectively, which were significantly slower than those from the longitudinal data. Interocular symmetries for the MD values of VF and ffERG were good., Conclusions: Annual BCVA, VF, and ffERG progression rates were rapid, emphasizing the need for regular follow-up and early intervention. The progression rate cannot be inferred accurately from cross-sectional data from patients of different ages.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation strategies and analyze the impact of human behavior on the transmission of Mpox. The results can provide guidance to public health authorities on comprehensive prevention and control for the new Mpox virus strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo as of December 2023., Methods: We develop a two-layer Watts-Strogatz network model. The basic reproduction number is calculated using the next-generation matrix approach. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) optimization algorithm is used to fit Mpox cases in Canada into the network model. Numerical simulations are used to assess the impact of mitigation strategies and human behavior on the final epidemic size., Results: Our results show that the contact transmission rate of low-risk groups and susceptible humans increases when the contact transmission rate of high-risk groups and susceptible humans is controlled as the Mpox epidemic spreads. The contact transmission rate of high-risk groups after May 18, 2022, is approximately 20% lower than that before May 18, 2022. Our findings indicate a positive correlation between the basic reproduction number and the level of heterogeneity in human contacts, with the basic reproduction number estimated at 2.3475 (95% CI: 0.0749-6.9084). Reducing the average number of sexual contacts to two per week effectively reduces the reproduction number to below one., Conclusion: We need to pay attention to the re-emergence of the epidemics caused by low-risk groups when an outbreak dominated by high-risk groups is under control. Numerical simulations show that reducing the average number of sexual contacts to two per week is effective in slowing down the rapid spread of the epidemic. Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a prevalent mental health issue, and resveratrol (RES) has been implicated in its management. This study aimed to elucidate the impact of RES on PSD. A PSD rat model was established through middle cerebral artery occlusion and chronic unpredictable mild stress. Rats received RES via gavage, and depressive behaviors were evaluated through various measures. Cerebral infarction areas and brain tissue pathology were assessed using TTC and H&E staining. Levels of inflammatory factors (TNF-α/IL-1β/IL-6/IL-10), neurotransmitters (ACH/DA/5-HT/BDNF), and oxidative stress-related indicators (SOD/GSH-Px/MDA), along with the total Nrf2/C-Nrf2/N-Nrf2/HO-1 proteins, were analyzed. The role of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway was investigated by co-treating rats with RES and either an Nrf2 pathway specific inhibitor (ML385) or activator (dimethyl fumarate). PSD rats exhibited depressive behaviors, disrupted neurotransmitter levels, and oxidative stress markers. RES treatment effectively alleviated these symptoms and activated the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway in PSD rat brain tissues. Co-administration of ML385 attenuated the beneficial effects of RES in PSD rats. Altogether, RES mitigates depressive behaviors, improves cognitive dysfunction, and reduces oxidative stress and inflammatory response in PSD rats. These effects are mediated through the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, suggesting RES as a potential therapeutic agent for PSD-related cognitive impairment., (Copyright © 2024 IBRO. Purpose: This study investigated a three-dimensional indicator in spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and established phenotype-genotype correlation in X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS)., Methods: Thirty-seven patients with XLRS underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examinations, including visual acuity (VA), fundus examination, electroretinogram (ERG), and SD-OCT. SD-OCT parameters of central foveal thickness (CFT), cyst cavity volume (CCV), and photoreceptor outer segment length were assessed. CCV was defined as the sum of the areas of cyst cavities in uential B-scans, measured automatically by self-developed software (OCT-CCSEG). Structural changes of the protein associated with missense variants were quantified by molecular dynamics (MD). The correlation between genotype and phenotype was analyzed., Results: Twenty-seven different RS1 variants were identified, including a novel variant c.336&#95;337insT(p.L113Sfs*8). The average age of onset was 14.76 ± 15.75 years, and the mean VA was 0.84 ± 0.43 logMAR. The mean CCV was 1.69 ± 1.87 mm3, correlating significantly with CFT (R = 0.66; P < 0.01). In the genotype-phenotype analysis of missense variants, CCV significantly correlated with the structural effect on the protein of mutational changes referred to as wild type, including root-mean-square deviation (R = 0.34; P = 0.04), solvent accessible surface area (R = 0.38; P = 0.02), and surface hydrophobic area (R = 0.37; P = 0.03). The amplitude of scotopic 3.0 ERG a-waves and b-waves significantly correlated with the percentage change of the β-strand in the secondary structure (a-wave: R = -0.58, P < 0.01; b-wave: R = -0.53, P < 0.01)., Conclusions: CCV is a promising indicator to quantify the structural disorganization of XLRS retina. The OCT-CCSEG software calculated CCV automatically, potentially facilitating prognosis assessment and development of personalized treatment. Moreover, MD-involved genotype-phenotype analysis suggests an association between protein structural alterations and XLRS severity measured by CCV and ERG.

The performances of single-atom catalysts are governed by their local coordination environments. Here, a thermal replacement strategy is developed for the synthesis of single-atom catalysts with precisely controlled and adjustable local coordination environments. A series of Co-S x N 4-x (x = 0, 1, 2, 3) single-atom catalysts are successfully synthesized by thermally replacing coordinated N with S at elevated temperature, and a volcano relationship between coordinations and catalytic performances toward electrochemical CO 2 reduction is observed. The Co-S 1 N 3 catalyst has the balanced COOH*and CO* bindings, and thus locates at the apex of the volcano with the highest performance toward electrochemical CO 2 reduction to CO, with the maximum CO Faradaic efficiency of 98 ± 1.8% and high turnover frequency of 4564 h -1 at an overpotential of 410 mV tested in H-cell with CO 2 -saturated 0.5 M KHCO 3 , surpassing most of the reported single-atom catalysts. Purpose: To characterize the clinical effects of two RP1L1 hotspots in patients with East Asian occult macular dystrophy (OMD)., Methods: Fifty-one patients diagnosed with OMD harboring monoallelic pathogenic RP1L1 variants (Miyake disease) from Japan, South Korea, and China were enrolled. Patients were classified into two genotype groups: group A, p.R45W, and group B, missense variants located between amino acids (aa) 1196 and 1201. The clinical parameters of the two genotypes were compared, and deep learning based on spectral-domain optical coherence tomographic (SD-OCT) images was used to distinguish the morphologic differences., Results: Groups A and B included 29 and 22 patients, respectively. The median age of onset in groups A and B was 14.0 and 40.0 years, respectively. The median logMAR visual acuity of groups A and B was 0.70 and 0.51, respectively, and the survival curve analysis revealed a 15-year difference in vision loss (logMAR 0.22). A statistically significant difference was observed in the visual field classification, but no significant difference was found in the multifocal electroretinographic classification. High accuracy (75.4%) was achieved in classifying genotype groups based on SD-OCT images using machine learning., Conclusions: Distinct clinical severities and morphologic phenotypes supported by artificial intelligence-based classification were derived from the two investigated RP1L1 hotspots: a more severe phenotype (p.R45W) and a milder phenotype (1196-1201 aa). This newly identified genotype-phenotype association will be valuable for medical care and the design of therapeutic trials.

Purpose: There are major gaps in our knowledge of hereditary ocular conditions in the Asia-Pacific population, which comprises approximately 60% of the world's population. Therefore, a concerted regional effort is urgently needed to close this critical knowledge gap and apply precision medicine technology to improve the quality of lives of these patients in the Asia-Pacific region., Design: Multi-national, multi-center collaborative network., Methods: The Research Standing Committee of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and the Asia-Pacific Society of Eye Genetics fostered this research collaboration, which brings together renowned institutions and experts for inherited eye diseases in the Asia-Pacific region. The immediate priority of the network will be inherited retinal diseases (IRDs), where there is a lack of detailed characterization of these conditions and in the number of established registries., Results: The network comprises 55 members from 35 centers, spanning 12 countries and regions, including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. Purpose: To investigate the clinical and genetic characteristics for a large cohort of Chinese patients with Bietti crystalline retinopathy (BCR)., Methods: A total of 208 Chinese BCR patients from 175 families were recruited. Comprehensive clinical evaluations and genetic analysis were performed. Genotype-phenotype correlations were evaluated through statistical analysis., Results: The patients' median age was 37 years (range, 20-76 years). The median best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.8 LogMAR unit (range, 2.8 to -0.12). A significant decline of BCVA was revealed in patients over 40 years old (P<0.001). Two clinical types were observed: peripheral type (type P) and central type (type C). Significantly more type C patients had a worse central visual acuity, but a more preserved retinal function (P<0.05). Molecular screening detected biallelic CYP4V2 pathogenic variants in 98.3% (172/175) of the families, including 19 novel ones. The most frequent pathogenic variant was c.802-8&#95;810del17insGC, with the allele frequency of 55.7% (195/350), followed by c.992A>C (28/350, 8%) and c.1091-2A>G (23/350, 6.6%). BCR patients with one c.802-8&#95;810del17insGC and one truncating variant (IVS6-8/Tru) had BCVA>1.3 LogMAR unit (Snellen equivalent<20/400) at a younger age than those with homozygous c.802-8&#95;810del17insGC variants (homo IVS6-8) (P=0.031)., Conclusions: BCR patients preserved relatively good vision before 40 years old. Two distinct clinical types of BCR were observed. BCR patients with IVS6-8/Tru had an earlier decline in visual acuity than those with homo IVS6-8.
