Abstract

A study conducted at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel, focused on enhancing cell adhesion properties of collagen-mimicking peptides through the incorporation of L-DOPA. The research utilized genetic code expansion in E. coli to introduce L-DOPA at specific sites, resulting in improved structural stability, cellular attachment, and cell growth. This innovative approach merges tissue engineering and synthetic biology to create custom-made collagen-based biomaterials for diverse applications.
