In this paper, the non-weldable precipitation-hardened superalloy Inconel 738 thin-wall parts were fabricated by laser directed energy deposition (LDED). The influence of post heat treatments including solution and aging heat treatments on the microstructures and mechanical properties of LDED-manufactured IN738 parts were investigated. The research results show that the phase composition of as-built and heat-treated IN738 alloys consisted of γ/γ’ and MC carbide. The microstructure of as-built IN738 alloy included fine columnar dendrites with a strong fibre texture parallel to the build direction. The smallest size of γ′ precipitates in the matrix led to the highest hardness value. By applying the post-heat treatment of 1120°C-2h+850°C-24 h, intense dislocation lines formed the network around the cuboidal γ′ precipitates. Moreover, the elongation of transverse and longitudinal tensile specimens reached the highest value of 26% and 17.4% respectively. With the increase of solution temperature, the fine columnar dendrites gradually enlarged along the direction vertical to the building direction. When the solution temperature increased to 1270 °C, the elongation of samples decreased obviously due to the enlarged columnar grains and the disappearance of dislocation network.

Abstract Qingdai (QD), derived from various plant sources, is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine for ulcerative colitis (UC) treatment. However, the clinical efficacy and mechanisms of orally administered QD remain unclear. This study aims to evaluate QD’s efficacy in UC treatment and uncover its active components and mechanisms. A randomized controlled trial compared QD to Adisa, followed by UPLC-Q-TOF/MS and network pharmacology analyses to identify QD’s core components and targets. In vivo experiments on a UC mouse model explored QD’s impact on the AHR-Th17/Treg pathway using PCR, WB, ELISA, and flow cytometry. Results showed QD’s efficacy in UC treatment, with mucosal healing and remission comparable to Adisa. UPLC-Q-TOF/MS identified 16 core components in mouse colon tissue, with network pharmacology revealing 67 targets, potentially involving the IL-17 signaling pathway and Th17 cell differentiation. QD and its components up-regulated AHR, CYP1A1, and Foxp3, while down-regulating RORγt. Additionally, QD modulated pro-inflammatory (IL-6, IL-17 A) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10, TGF-β1) factors, and Treg/Th17 cell ratios in LPMC. Oral QD administration effectively promoted mucosal healing and improved UC symptoms, potentially through AHR-Th17/Treg pathway regulation.

Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) represents the novel respiratory infectious disorder caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and is characterized by rapid spread throughout the world. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) account for cellular metabolic by-products, and excessive ROS accumulation can induce oxidative stress due to insufficient endogenous antioxidant ability. In the case of oxidative stress, ROS production exceeds the cellular antioxidant capacity, thus leading to cell death. SARS-CoV-2 can activate different cell death pathways in the context of infection in host cells, such as neutrophil extracellular trap (NET)osis, ferroptosis, apoptosis, pyroptosis, necroptosis and autophagy, which are closely related to ROS signalling and control. In this review, we comprehensively elucidated the relationship between ROS generation and the death of host cells after SARS-CoV-2 infection, which leads to the development of COVID-19, aiming to provide a reasonable basis for the existing interventions and further development of novel therapies against SARS-CoV-2. Abstract Specific intestinal metabolites are closely associated with the classification, severity, and necrosis of acute pancreatitis (AP) and provide novel insights for in-depth clinical investigations. In this study, the gut microbiota and metabolites of 49 AP patients at different treatment stages and severities were analysed via 16S rDNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics to investigate the trends in gut microbiota composition and metabolome profiles observed in patients with severe AP. These findings revealed an imbalance in intestinal flora homeostasis among AP patients characterized by a decrease in probiotics and an increase in opportunistic pathogens, which leads to damage to the intestinal mucosal barrier through reduced short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) secretion and disruption of the intestinal epithelium. This dysbiosis influences energy metabolism, anti-inflammatory responses, and immune regulation, and these results highlight significant differences in energy metabolism pathways. These findings suggest that the differential composition of intestinal flora, along with alterations in intestinal metabolites and metabolic pathways, contribute to the compromised integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier and disturbances in energy metabolism in patients with severe AP.

Abstract The implementation of water-surface photovoltaic systems as a source of renewable power has expanded rapidly worldwide in recent decades. Water-surface photovoltaic avoids negative impacts on terrestrial ecosystems, while the impacts on aquatic physical and chemical properties and biodiversity are unclear. To understand the ecological and environmental impacts of water-surface photovoltaic systems, here we conducted a field survey on water physical and chemical properties, plankton and bird communities of 26 water-surface photovoltaic systems in the Yangtze River basin in China during the winter and summer of 2022. We found that water-surface photovoltaic systems decreased water temperature, dissolved oxygen saturation and uncovered area of the water surface, which caused a reduction in plankton species and individual density, altering the community composition. Water-surface photovoltaic systems also caused an overall decrease in bird diversity and changed bird community compositions. These findings suggested that water-surface photovoltaic systems have impacts on the water environment and ecology. Since water-surface photovoltaic systems will continue to expand in the future, our results emphasize that rational planning is critical for the sustainable development of water-surface photovoltaic systems and the protection of the aquatic environment and biodiversity.

Abstract With their optical addressability of individual spins and long coherence time, nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are often called “atom-like solid spin-defects”. As observed with trapped atomic ions, quantum interference mediated by indistinguishable photons was demonstrated between remote NV centers. In high sensitivity DC magnetometry at room temperature, NV ensembles are potentially rivaling with alkali-atom vapor cells. However, local strain induces center-to-center variation of both optical and spin transitions of NV centers. Therefore, advanced engineering of diamond growth toward crystalline perfection is demanded. Here, we report on the synthesis of high-quality HPHT (high-pressure, high-temperature) crystals, demonstrating a small inhomogeneous broadening of the spin transitions, of T 2 * = 1.28 μs, approaching the limit for crystals with natural 13C abundance, that we determine as T 2 * = 1.48 μs. The contribution from strain and local charges to the inhomogeneous broadening is lowered to ~17 kHz full width at half maximum for NV ensemble within a > 10 mm3 volume. Looking at optical transitions in low nitrogen crystals, we examine the variation of zero-phonon-line optical transition frequencies at low temperatures, showing a strain contribution below 2 GHz for a large fraction of single NV centers.

Patients with peritoneal metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (pmPDAC) with high-level serum carbohydrate antigens (CAs) always suffer extremely dismal prognosis, with a median survival of several months. Herein, we reported a case of pmPDAC with high serum CAs who had long-term clinical remission with normalization of CAs after chemoradiation. In November 2019, a 64-year-old male patient was admitted to our center with a solid mass measuring 2.8 × 2.5 × 2.0 cm in the body of the pancreas near the celiac trunk. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) revealed an standardized uptake value max (SUVmax) of 4.2. The serum CA 242 level exceeded 150.0 U/mL (normal range: 0–20 U/mL), and CA 19-9 was elevated at 975.2 U/mL (normal range: 0–34 U/mL). During laparotomy, the tumor was found to encircle the celiac trunk over 180°, with several small peritoneal nodules in the lesser omental cavity. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pmPDAC. Next-generation sequencing revealed RAS G12V, EGFR mutation (-), low tumor mutation burden (TMB), and microsatellite stability (MSS). The patient underwent 6 cycles of the AG regimen (gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel), resulting in significant tumor shrinkage and a sharp decline in CAs. Partial remission was achieved. However, due to intolerant neurotoxicity, the AG regimen was discontinued. Subsequently, synchronous oral fluorouracil (S1) and radiation therapy were administered. Five months after radiation treatment, all CAs normalized. Oral S1 was continued for an additional 3 months. Eventually, all anti-cancer drugs were stopped. Computed tomography scans indicated that the tumor still surrounded the celiac trunk and common hepatic artery. After a thorough discussion, a wait-and-see strategy was adopted. Remarkably, 32 months after stopping anti-cancer medication, the patient remains in good health, with sustained normalization of CAs. At the last follow-up, he had lived for 50 months, and the normalization of the CAs was sustained for 36 months. Although he still suffers the risk of disease progression, it is a successful case of state-of-the-art chemoradiation for a dismal pmPDAC patient.

Abstract Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignancy of the head and neck. Zeng-Sheng-Ping, composed of Sophora tonkinensis Gagnep., Bistorta officinalis Delarbre, Sonchus arvensis L., Prunella vulgaris L., Dioscorea bulbifera L., and Dictamnus dasycarpus Turcz., was regarded as an anti-cancer drug with significant clinical efficacy, but was discontinued due to liver toxicity. Our research group developed a modified Zeng-Sheng-Ping (ZSP-M) based on original Zeng-Sheng-Ping that exhibited high efficiency and low toxicity in preliminary investigations, although its pharmacodynamic mechanism is still unclear. Here, we aimed to elucidate the pharmacodynamic material basis of ZSP-M and investigate its chemopreventive effect on OSCC by modulating tumor associated macrophages (TAMs). Methods Components of ZSP-M were characterized using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Chemopreventive effect induced by ZSP-M against experimental oral cancer was investigated using the 4-nitroquinoline N-oxide precancerous lesion mouse model. RNA sequencing analysis was used to gain a global transcriptional view of the effect of ZSP-M treatment. A cell co-culture model was used to study the targeted effect of ZSP-M on TAMs and the biological properties of OSCC cells and to detect changes in TAM phenotypes. The binding of ZSP-M active compounds to TNF alpha induced protein 6 (TNFAIP6) protein was analyzed by molecular docking and dynamic simulation. Results Forty main components of ZSP-M were identified, the most abundant of which were flavonoids. ZSP-M inhibited the degree of epithelial dysplasia in precancerous lesions by inhibiting the expression of the TNFAIP6 and CD163 proteins in the precancerous lesions of the tongue. ZSP-M inhibited proliferation, colony formation, migration and invasion of SCC7 cells by targeting TAMs. ZSP-M reduced the expression of CD163+ cells, inhibited the expression of TNFAIP6 protein, Arg1 mRNA and Il10 mRNA in TAMs, and reduced IL-10 cytokine release in the co-culture environment. This effect was maintained after the addition of recombinant TNFAIP6 protein. Computer simulations showed that trifolirhizin and maackiain are well-connected to TNFAIP6. Conclusions ZSP-M counteracts the immunosuppressive action of TAMs by specific targeting of TNFAIP6, thereby exerting chemopreventive activity of OSCC.

Abstract The technique of matrix acidification or acid fracturing is commonly utilized to establish communication with natural fractures during reservoir reconstruction. However, this process often encounters limitations due to filtration, which restricts the expansion of the primary acid-etching fracture. To address this issue, a computational model has been developed to simulate the expansion of an acid-etching wormhole by considering various factors such as formation process, injection duration, pressure build-up, and time-varying acid percolation rate. By analyzing the pumping displacement of acid-etching wormholes, this model provides valuable insights into the time-dependent quantities of acid percolation. It has been revealed that the filtration rate of acid-etching wormholes is strongly influenced by pumping displacement, viscosity, and concentration of the acid fluid used in stimulation as well as physical properties of the reservoir itself. Notably, viscosity plays a significant role in determining the effectiveness of acid fracturing especially in low-viscosity conditions. Acid concentration within 15% to 20% exhibits maximum impact on successful acid fracturing while concentrations below 15% or above 20% show no obvious effect. Furthermore, it was found that pumping displacement has a major influence on effective fracturing. However, beyond a certain threshold (> 5.0 m3/min), increased pumping displacement leads to slower etching distance for acids used in construction purposes. The simulation also provides real-time distribution analysis for acidity levels within eroded fractures during matrix-acidification processes and quantifies extent of chemical reactions between acids and rocks within these fractures thereby facilitating optimization efforts for design parameters related to matrix-acidification.

Abstract Background This study aims to investigate the role of shear wave elastography (SWE) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) in the assessment of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) prognosis. Methods CTGF expression was detected with immunohistochemistry. Clinical and pathological data were collected. Parameters of conventional ultrasound combined with SWE were also collected. The relationship among CTGF expression, ultrasound indicators, the elastic modulus and the clinicopathological parameters were analyzed. Results Univariate analysis showed that patients with high risk of PTC were characterized with male, Uygur ethnicity, increased expression of CTGF, convex lesions, calcified, incomplete capsule, intranodular blood flow, rear echo attenuation, cervical lymph node metastasis, lesions larger than 1 cm, psammoma bodies, advanced clinical stage, increased TSH and high value in the shear modulus (P

Abstract Purpose Since May 2022, Mpox has spread extensively outside of Africa, posing a serious threat to the health of people globally, and particularly to the men who have sex with men (MSM) population. Chongqing, a province in Southwest China, has relatively large MSM and people living with HIV (PLWH) populations, presenting conditions conducive to the wide dissemination of Mpox. In this study, we investigated the clinical characteristics of Mpox patients among MSM and PLWH in Chongqing, aiming to inform the development of targeted prevention, control, and treatment strategies for Mpox. Method We evaluated the clinical characteristics, travel history, time of onset, distribution and number of skin lesions of Mpox patients admitted to the Chongqing Public Health Medical Center between September 2022 and October 2023. Meanwhile, a series of clinical samples were collected and the pathogen of interest was identified as Mpox virus using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The results were presented in the form of cycle thresholds (Ct), which help to approximate the quantification of viral load. Results As of October 11, 2023, the Chongqing Public Health Medical Center reported a total of nine Mpox virus infections. All the patients identified were male and belonged to the MSM population, among whom seven (77.8%) were living with HIV, and maintained a preserved immune system while achieving viral suppression via effective ART. We observed no discernible clinical differences between MSM with Mpox with or without HIV, and no fatalities were recorded. Viral loads were observed to be higher in samples taken from the skin than those from the throat, nasopharynx, blood, or semen. Conclusion In this retrospective study, the clinical manifestations of MPXV infection appeared consistent among MSM patients, regardless of HIV status. Elevated MPXV viral loads in the skin and mucosal tissues, particularly at genital and anal sites, indicate that transmission is more likely to occur via direct physical contact as opposed to respiratory pathways or through exposure to bodily fluids.

To ensure national food security amidst severe water shortages, agricultural irrigation must be reduced through scientific innovation and technological progress. Efficient monitoring is essential for achieving water-saving irrigation and ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture. UAV hyperspectral remote sensing has demonstrated significant potential in monitoring large-scale crop leaf water content (LWC). In this study, hyperspectral and LWC data were collected for potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) during the tuber formation, growth, and starch accumulation stage in both 2021 and 2022. The hyperspectral data underwent mathematical transformation by multivariate scatter correction (MSC) and standard normal transformation (SNV). Next, feature spectral bands of LWC were selected using Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling (CARS) and Random Frog (RF). For comparison, both the full-band and feature band were utilized to establish the estimation models of LWC. Modeling methods included partial least squares regression (PLSR), support vector regression (SVR), and BP neural network regression (BP). Results demonstrate that MSC and SNV significantly enhance the correlation between spectral data and LWC. The efficacy of estimation models varied across different growth stages, with optimal models identified as MSC-CARS-SVR (R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 0.51) for tuber formation, SNV-CARS-PLSR (R2 = 0.85, RMSE = 0.42) for tuber growth, and MSC-RF-PLSR (R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 0.55) for starch accumulation. The RPD values of the three optimal models all exceed 2, indicating their excellent predictive performance. Utilizing these optimal models, a spatial distribution map of LWC across the entire potato canopy was generated, offering valuable insights for precise potato irrigation.

This paper presents the acoustic analysis of a three-dimensional cylindrical shell model under electromagnetic vibration, a critical factor affecting the performance of electric motors in various applications such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial systems. The study provides a multidisciplinary approach that integrates electromagnetics, structural vibration, and acoustics, solved using the fast multipole boundary element method (FMBEM). The results summarize the validation of the analytical models and numerical simulations, offering insights into effective vibration reduction methods. The conclusions indicate that the 3-D numerical analysis using FMBEM aligns well with the analytical solution for the sound pressure in the exterior acoustic domain of the cylindrical shell model. The paper contributes valuable insights for the design of low-noise motors and the control of electromagnetic vibration and noise in electric motors.

Abstract Regulating cardiolipin to maintain mitochondrial homeostasis is a promising strategy for addressing Parkinson's disease (PD). Through a comprehensive screening and validation process involving multiple models, ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) as a compound capable of enhancing cardiolipin levels is identified. This augmentation in cardiolipin levels fosters mitochondrial homeostasis by bolstering mitochondrial unfolded protein response, promoting mitophagy, and enhancing mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Consequently, this cascade enhances the survival of tyrosine hydroxylase positive (TH+) dopaminergic neurons, leading to an amelioration in motor performance within PD mouse models. Using limited proteolysis–small‐molecule mapping combined with molecular docking analysis, it has confirmed Growth Factor Receptor‐Bound Protein 2 (GRB2) as a molecular target for Rg3. Furthermore, these investigations reveal that Rg3 facilitates the interaction between GRB2 and TRKA (Neurotrophic Tyrosine Kinase, Receptor, Type 1), thus promotes EVI1 (Ecotropic Virus Integration Site 1 Protein Homolog) phosphorylation by ERK, subsequently increases CRLS1 (Cardiolipin Synthase 1) gene expression and boosts cardiolipin synthesis. The absence of GRB2 or CRLS1 significantly attenuates the beneficial effects of Rg3 on PD symptoms. Finally, Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) that also promotes the binding between GRB2 and TRKA is further identified. The identified compounds, Rg3 and TDF, exhibit promising potential for the prevention of PD by bolstering cardiolipin expression and reinstating mitochondrial homeostasis.

Accurate identification of potato diseases is crucial for reducing yield losses. To address the issue of low recognition accuracy caused by the mismatch between target domain and source domain due to insufficient samples, the effectiveness of Multi-Source Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (MUDA) method in disease identification is explored. A Multi-Source Domain Feature Adaptation Network (MDFAN) is proposed, employing a two-stage alignment strategy. This method first aligns the distribution of each source-target domain pair within multiple specific feature spaces. In this process, multi-representation extraction and subdomain alignment techniques are utilized to further improve alignment performance. Secondly, classifier outputs are aligned by leveraging decision boundaries within specific domains. Taking into account variations in lighting during image acquisition, a dataset comprising field potato disease images with five distinct disease types is created, followed by comprehensive transfer experiments. In the corresponding transfer tasks, MDFAN achieves an average classification accuracy of 92.11% with two source domains and 93.02% with three source domains, outperforming all other methods. These results not only demonstrate the effectiveness of MUDA but also highlight the robustness of MDFAN to changes in lighting conditions.

BackgroundThis study aimed to explore the distribution of intestinal and pharyngeal microbiota on the first day of life in preterm infants and compare the composition of microbiota in infants delivered by cesarean section or vaginally.MethodsThis study included 44 late preterm infants with a gestational age of 34–36 + 6 weeks. Stool and throat swab samples were collected from the preterm infants on the first day of life. The infants were divided into cesarean section and vaginal delivery groups. Illumina NovaSeq high-throughput sequencing technology was used to sequence the V3-V4 hypervariable region of the 16S rRNA gene of all bacteria in the samples. Venn diagram was used to identify shared operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in the intestines and pharynges. Microbial analysis was conducted at the phylum and genus levels, and α and β diversity comparisons were performed.Results(1) Gestational age may have significantly affected the microbial colonization of the intestines and pharynges of preterm infants on the first day after birth (p ≤ 0.001). (2) More OTUs were detected in the pharynx than in the intestines, both have a total of 819 shared OTUs. Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidota were the dominant phyla in both. At the genus level, Streptococcus had a lower relative abundance in stool samples (0.5%) compared to throat samples (0.5% vs. 22.2%, p = 0.003). 3) The relative abundance of Streptococcus in pharyngeal samples was 26.2% in the cesarean section group much higher than the 3.8% in the vaginal delivery group (p = 0.01).ConclusionThe early postnatal period is a critical time for the establishment of an infant's microbiota. Gestational age at birth may influence microbial colonization, while birth weight, gender, and mode of delivery do not. The intestinal and pharyngeal microbiota composition of preterm infants on the first day after birth showed high similarity, but larger samples are needed for further validation.

IntroductionMale pattern baldness (MPB), also known as androgenetic alopecia, represents the most prevalent form of progressive hair loss in humans. It is characterized by a distinctive pattern of hair loss progression from the scalp; however, its underlying mechanism remains elusive and is influenced by hereditary, immune, and environmental factors. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have uncovered numerous risk genes/loci among European individuals with MPB. However, the validation of these susceptibility genes/loci within Han Chinese men remains largely unexplored. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the 71 susceptibility loci identified in a recent GWAS among European men also confer risk for MPB in Chinese men.MethodsForty-seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) previously reported in GWASs of MPB were selected and genotyped in independent individuals comprising 499 Han Chinese cases and 1,489 controls using the Sequenom MassArray system. IntroductionEndometriosis (EMs) and adenomyosis (AD) are common gynecological diseases that impact women's health, and they share symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, chronic pain, and infertility, which adversely affect women's quality of life. Current diagnostic approaches for EMs and AD involve invasive surgical procedures, and thus, methods of noninvasive differentiation between EMs and AD are needed. This retrospective cohort study introduces a novel, noninvasive classification methodology employing a stacked ensemble machine learning (ML) model that utilizes peripheral blood and coagulation markers to distinguish between EMs and AD.MethodsThe study included a total of 558 patients (329 with EMs and 229 with AD), in whom key hematological and coagulation markers were analyzed to identify distinctive profiles. Feature selection was conducted through ML (logistic regression, support vector machine, and K-nearest neighbors) to determine significant hematological markers.ResultsRed cell distribution width, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, activated partial thromboplastin time, international normalized ratio, and antithrombin III were proved to be the key distinguishing indexes for disease differentiation. Among all the ML classification models developed, the stacked ensemble model demonstrated superior performance (area under the curve = 0.803, 95% credibility interval = 0.701–0.904). Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the stacked ensemble ML model for classifying EMs and AD.DiscussionIntegrating biomarkers into this multi-algorithm framework offers a novel approach to noninvasive diagnosis. These results advocate for the application of stacked ensemble ML utilizing cost-effective and readily available peripheral blood and coagulation indicators for the early, rapid, and noninvasive differential diagnosis of EMs and AD, offering a potentially transformative approach for clinical decision-making and personalized treatment strategies.

Abstract Purpose In this study, we retrospectively investigated the prognostic role of pre-treatment neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients (ESCC) treated with concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the records of 338 patients with pathologically diagnosed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma that underwent concurrent chemo-radiotherapy from January 2013 to December 2017. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify prognostic factors for progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Abstract Background The Cabrol procedure has undergone various modifications and developments since its invention. However, there is a notable gap in the literature regarding meta-analyses assessing it. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and long-term outcomes of the Cabrol procedure and its modifications. Pooling was conducted using random effects model. Outcome events were reported as linearized occurrence rates (percentage per patient-year) with 95% confidence intervals. Results A total of 14 studies involving 833 patients (mean age: 50.8 years; 68.0% male) were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled all-cause early mortality was 9.0% (66 patients), and the combined rate of reoperation due to bleeding was 4.9% (17 patients). During the average 4.4-year follow-up (3,727.3 patient-years), the annual occurrence rates (linearized) for complications were as follows: 3.63% (2.79–4.73) for late mortality, 0.64% (0.35–1.16) for aortic root reoperation, 0.57% (0.25–1.31) for hemorrhage events, 0.66% (0.16–2.74) for thromboembolism, 0.60% (0.29–1.26) for endocarditis, 2.32% (1.04–5.16) for major valve-related adverse events, and 0.58% (0.34–1.00) for Cabrol-related coronary graft complications. Conclusion This systematic review provides evidence that the outcomes of the Cabrol procedure and its modifications are acceptable in terms of mortality, reoperation, anticoagulation, and valve-related complications, especially in Cabrol-related coronary graft complications. Notably, the majority of Cabrol procedures were performed in reoperations and complex cases. Furthermore, the design and anastomosis of the Dacron interposition graft for coronary reimplantation, considering natural anatomy and physiological hemodynamics, may promise future advancements in this field.

Abstract Background The Tibetan area is one of China’s minority regions with a shortage of general practice personnel, which requires further training and staffing. This research helps to understand the current condition and demand for general practitioner (GP) training in Tibetan areas and to provide a reference for promoting GP education and training. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional survey using stratified sampling targeting 854 GPs in seven cities within the Tibetan Autonomous Region, utilizing an online questionnaire. Achieving a high response rate of 95.1%, 812 GPs provided invaluable insights. Our meticulously developed self-designed questionnaire, available in both Chinese and Tibetan versions, aimed to capture a wide array of data encompassing basic demographics, clinical skills, and specific training needs of GPs in the Tibetan areas. Prior to deployment, the questionnaire underwent rigorous development and refinement processes, including expert consultation and pilot testing, to ensure its content validity and reliability. In our analysis, we employed descriptive statistics to present the characteristics and current training needs of GPs in the Tibetan areas. Additionally, chi-square tests were utilized to examine discrepancies in training needs across various demographic groups, such as age, job positions, and educational backgrounds of the participating GPs. Results The study was completed by 812 (812/854, 95.1%) GPs, of whom 62.4% (507/812) were female. The top three training needs were hypertension (81.4%, 661/812), pregnancy management (80.7%, 655/812), and treatment of related patient conditions and events (80.5%, 654/812). Further research shows that the training required by GPs of different ages in “puncturing, catheterization, and indwelling gastric tube use” (64.6% vs. 54.8%, p = 9.5 × 10− 6) varies statistically. GPs in various positions have different training needs in “community-based chronic disease prevention and management” (76.6% vs. 63.9%, p = 0.009). The training needs of GPs with different educational backgrounds in “debridement, suturing, and fracture fixation” (65.6% vs. 73.2%, p = 0.027) were also statistically significant. Conclusions This study suggests the need for targeted continuing medical education activities and for updating training topics and content. Course developers must consider the needs of GPs, as well as the age, job positions, and educational backgrounds of GPs practicing in the Tibetan Plateau region. Trial registration Not applicable.

Preparing bulk metallic glass composites (BMGCs) is an effective way to improve the plasticity of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs). However, the enhancement of plasticity is usually at the cost of deterioration in strength. In this study, a series of BMGCs with the nominal composition of Zr48Cu48Al4 was prepared. Finely dispersed B2 CuZr crystals are embedded in a glassy matrix and subsequently, these composites were cryogenically cycled in liquid nitrogen followed by heating to various temperatures below the glass transition temperature. It was found that the samples after cryogenic thermal cycling (CTC) treated at an intermediate upper temperature shown a simultaneous improvement of yielding strength from 1680 MPa to 1832 MPa and plasticity from 5.6% to 9.1%. The enhancement of yielding strength is ascribed to the existence of the B19′ phase resulted from the partial martensitic transformation during the CTC treatment, while the improvement of plasticity is attributed to the higher free volume content and the larger “blocking effect” from the B19’ after the samples were treated by CTC. The combination of CTC treatment and precipitation of crystals provides a new strategy for improving the mechanical properties of the BMGs.

IntroductionEffective pest management is important during the natural growth phases of cotton in the wild. As cotton fields are infested with “tiny pests” (smaller than 32×32 pixels) and “very tiny pests” (smaller than 16×16 pixels) during growth, making it difficult for common object detection models to accurately detect and fail to make sound agricultural decisions.MethodsIn this study, we proposed a framework for detecting “tiny pests” and “very tiny pests” in wild cotton fields, named SRNet-YOLO. SRNet-YOLO includes a YOLOv8 feature extraction module, a feature map super-resolution reconstruction module (FM-SR), and a fusion mechanism based on BiFormer attention (BiFormerAF). Specially, the FM-SR module is designed for the feature map level to recover the important feature in detail, in other words, this module reconstructs the P5 layer feature map into the size of the P3 layer. And then we designed the BiFormerAF module to fuse this reconstruct layer with the P3 layer, which greatly improves the detection performance. The purpose of the BiFormerAF module is to solve the problem of possible loss of feature after reconstruction. Additionally, to validate the performance of our method for “tiny pests” and “very tiny pests” detection in cotton fields, we have developed a large dataset, named Cotton-Yellow-Sticky-2023, which collected pests by yellow sticky traps.ResultsThrough comprehensive experimental verification, we demonstrate that our proposed framework achieves exceptional performance. Our method achieved 78.2% mAP on the “tiny pests” test result, it surpasses the performance of leading detection models such as YOLOv3, YOLOv5, YOLOv7 and YOLOv8 by 6.9%, 7.2%, 5.7% and 4.1%, respectively. Meanwhile, our results on “very tiny pests” reached 57% mAP, which are 32.2% higher than YOLOv8. To verify the generalizability of the model, our experiments on Yellow Sticky Traps (low-resolution) dataset still maintained the highest 92.8% mAP.DiscussionThe above experimental results indicate that our model not only provides help in solving the problem of tiny pests in cotton fields, but also has good generalizability and can be used for the detection of tiny pests in other crops.

Background & Aims: There are no studies investigating the direct effects of elevated xanthine oxidase (XO) on lipid metabolism disorders. Here, we aimed to clarify the role of XO in lipid metabolism in a prospective cohort study and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Methods: The association between serum XO activity and metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) was examined in Cox proportional hazard models in a population-based cohort of 3,358 participants (20–75 years) at baseline. In addition, mouse models were used to investigate the underlying mechanism for the association between overexpression of XO and the lipid metabolism disorders. Results: After an average 5.8 years of follow up, we found elevated serum XO activity was associated with an increased risk of developing MASLD (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.08; 95% CI: 1.44–3.01; p-trend

The use of boundary elements in two-dimensional acoustic analysis is presented in this study, along with a detailed explanation of how to derive the final discrete equations from the fundamental fluctuation equations. In order to overcome the fictitious eigenfrequency problem that might arise during the examination of the external sound field, this work employs the Burton-Miller approach. Additionally, this work uses the Taylor expansion to extract the frequency-dependent component from the BEM function, which speeds up the computation and removes the frequency dependency of the system coefficient matrix. The effect of the radiated acoustic field generated by underwater structures’ on thin-walled structures such as submarines and ships is inspected in this work. Numerical examples verify the accuracy of the proposed method and the efficiency improvement.

For the purpose of modeling the acoustic fluid-structure interaction using direct differentiation method and conducting a structural-acoustic sensitivity analysis, a coupling approach based on the finite element method and the fast multipole boundary element method is suggested. Non-uniform rational B-splines isogeometric analysis bypasses the difficult volume parameterization procedure in the isogeometric finite element method and the time-consuming meshing process in classical finite element/boundary element method, allowing numerical analysis on computer-aided design models to be completed directly. The finite element/fast multipole boundary element method based on non-uniform rational B-splines isogeometric analysis enables the numerical prediction of the effects of arbitrarily formed vibrating structures on the sound field. Several numerical examples are shown to demonstrate the usefulness and efficiency of the proposed method.

BackgroundCardiovascular disease (CVD) is a prevalent non-communicable disease globally and holds the position of being the primary cause of mortality worldwide. Consequently, considerable focus has been directed towards the prevention and management of CVD. PCSK9, a frequently targeted element in the treatment and prevention of CVD, can reduce cardiovascular risk by effectively lowering lipid levels even in the context of statin therapy. It also exhibits substantial potential in the diagnosis and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia from genetic aspects. This bibliometric study aims to analyze and visualize the global trends and emerging hotspots of PCSK9 and CVD researches and provide researchers with new perspectives in further studies.MethodsThe data was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. A total of 2,474 publications related to PCSK9 and CVD published between January 2006 and July 2023 were included. The VOSviewer was used to analyze most-cited references, co-authorship, co-citation, co-occurrence and generate a collaborative network map of authors, countries, and institutions. CiteSpace was used to analyze author and institution centroids, keyword bursts, and timeline graphs.ResultA total of 2,474 articles related to CVD and PCSK9 were included. The number of articles and citations show an increasing trend from year to year. Publications were mainly from the United States. The most active institution was Amgen Inc. Watts, Gerald F. was the most prolific author. Atherosclerosis was the most published journal. Literature co-citation and keyword co-occurrence revealed that early studies focused on the lipid-lowering effects of PCSK9 inhibitors in the context of statins therapy, long-term efficacy, adverse effects, LDLR, diagnosis and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia. In recent years, myocardial ischemic protection, CRISPR-based editing, and new therapeutic strategies for arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease have gotten wide attention. The protein convertase, inflammation, beta-polyacetate, and inclisiran may be the important future research directions.ConclusionThis study analyses the current status and global trends in the CVD and PCSK9 studies comprehensively, which may provide researchers and policymakers with new and comprehensive perspectives on in this field of research.

Intercropping systems can improve soil fertility and health, however, soil microbial communities and functional genes related to carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycling under the intercropping system of mesquite and perilla have not been studied. Therefore, in the present study, different planting densities and varieties of Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt and kiwifruit were used for intercropping, and changes in soil microbial communities and carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling genes in kiwifruit inter-roots under inter-cropping conditions were investigated by macro-genome sequencing technology. The results showed that intercropping with Perill caused a decrease in most soil nutrients, soil enzyme activities, and had a significant impact on the microbial (bacteria and fungi) diversity. Inter-cropping increased the relative abundance of the dominant bacterial phylum “Proteobacteria” and “Actinobacteria” by 47 and 57%, respectively, but decreased the relative abundance of the dominant fungal phylum “Chordata” and “Streptophyta” by 11 and 20%, respectively, in the inter-root soil of kiwifruit, and had a significant impact on the microbial (bacteria and fungi) diversity. In addition, inter-cropping could greatly increase the inter-root soil carbon sequestration (PccA, korA/B/C/D, fhs, and rbcl/s), carbon degradation (abfD), organic nitrogen mineralization (GDH2), denitrification (napA/B, nirB, norB), organic phosphorus mineralization (phop, phn), and inorganic phosphorus solubilization (gcd, ppk) gene abundance. The gene co-occurrence network indicated that soil korB, nirB, and gnd key functional genes for carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling in kiwifruit inter-root soils and their expression was up-regulated in the inter-cropping group. Dynamic load on anchoring structures (AS) within deep roadways can result in cumulative damage and failure. This study develops an experimental device designed to test AS under triaxial loads. The device enables the investigation of the mechanical response, failure mode, instability assessment criteria, and anchorage effect of AS subjected to combined cyclic dynamic-static triaxial stress paths. The results show that the peak bearing strength is positively correlated with the anchoring matrix strength, anchorage length, and edgewise compressive strength. The bearing capacity decreases significantly when the anchorage direction is severely inclined. The free face failure modes are typically transverse cracking, concave fracturing, V-shaped slipping and detachment, and spallation detachment. Besides, when the anchoring matrix strength and the anchorage length decrease while the edgewise compressive strength, loading rate, and anchorage inclination angle increase, the failure intensity rises. Instability is determined by a negative tangent modulus of the displacement-strength curve or the continued deformation increase against the general downward trend. Under cyclic loads, the driving force that breaks the rock mass along the normal vector and the rigidity of the AS are the two factors that determine roadway stability. Finally, a control measure for surrounding rock stability is proposed to reduce the internal driving force via a pressure relief method and improve the rigidity of the AS by full-length anchorage and grouting modification.

In this paper, we present our process design kits (PDKs) component performances for different wavelengths in the visible to near-infrared (VIS-NIR) range on Shanghai Industrial μTechnology Research Institute's (SITRI's) 200 mm silicon nitride (SiN) photonics platform. SiN waveguide platform has emerged as a promising technology due to its low optical loss, relatively high refractive index, and transparency across the VIS-NIR spectrum. The industrialization of SiN platforms requires matured PDKs. On SITRI's 200 mm SiN photonics platform, we developed PDKs using both Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) and Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) processes, with SiN layers of 180 nm and 150 nm thicknesses, respectively. The fabricated waveguides exhibit low propagation loss, ranging from 2.5 dB/cm to 0.34 dB/cm from 532 nm to 860 nm. Additionally, we present a low bending loss which is less than 0.06 dB/90° with a radius of 100 μm. Furthermore, the loss of the linear grating coupler (LGC) is less than 2.6 dB at 785 nm. We have also achieved low-loss splitters, including 1 × 2 multimode interference (MMI) coupler, and directional coupler (DC), with a minimum excess loss of 0.03 dB. Additionally, micro ring resonator with high quality (Q) factors of 146,000 has been demonstrated. Our work on developing these PDKs will open new opportunities for researchers and developers to design and fabricate advanced photonic devices on the SiN platform in SITRI's 200 mm fabrication line.

Reconstructing 3D garment models usually requires laborious data-fetching processes, such as expensive lidar, multiple-view images, or SMPL models of the garments. In this paper, we propose a neat framework that takes single-image inputs for generating pseudo-sparse views of 3D garments and synthesizing multi-view images into a high-quality 3D neural model. Specifically, our framework combines a pretrained pseudo sparse view generator and a volumetric signed distance function (SDF) representation-based network for 3D garment modeling, which uses neural networks to represent both the density and radiance fields. We further introduce a stride fusion strategy to minimize the pixel-level loss in key viewpoints and semantic loss in random viewpoints, which produces view-consistent geometry and sharp texture details. Finally, a multi-view rendering module utilizes the learned SDF representation to generate multi-view garment images and extract accurate mesh and texture from them. We evaluate our proposed framework on the Deep Fashion 3D dataset and achieve state-of-the-art performance in terms of both quantitative and qualitative evaluations.

Abstract Background Patients with degenerative spinal deformity often experience symptoms that seriously affect their quality of life, such as low back pain and dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between paravertebral muscle function and pelvic incidence (PI) and their effect on health-related quality of life (HRQL) in patients with degenerative spinal deformity. Methods A total of 112 patients with degenerative spinal deformity in Southwest Hospital (Chongqing, China) were enrolled. They were divided into groups according to PI angle: high (PI > 60°, n = 37), normal (PI 50°–60°, n = 31), and low (PI 0.05). There was no significant difference in endurance time, SVA, ODI, RMQ, and SF-36 among the three groups. Abstract Background Bioenergetic maladaptations and axonopathy are often found in the early stages of neurodegeneration. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), an essential cofactor for energy metabolism, is mainly synthesized by Nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyl transferase 2 (NMNAT2) in CNS neurons. NMNAT2 mRNA levels are reduced in the brains of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s disease. Here we addressed whether NMNAT2 is required for axonal health of cortical glutamatergic neurons, whose long-projecting axons are often vulnerable in neurodegenerative conditions. We also tested if NMNAT2 maintains axonal health by ensuring axonal ATP levels for axonal transport, critical for axonal function. Methods We generated mouse and cultured neuron models to determine the impact of NMNAT2 loss from cortical glutamatergic neurons on axonal transport, energetic metabolism, and morphological integrity. In addition, we determined if exogenous NAD supplementation or inhibiting a NAD hydrolase, sterile alpha and TIR motif-containing protein 1 (SARM1), prevented axonal deficits caused by NMNAT2 loss. This study used a combination of techniques, including genetics, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, biochemistry, fluorescent time-lapse imaging, live imaging with optical sensors, and anti-sense oligos. Results We provide in vivo evidence that NMNAT2 in glutamatergic neurons is required for axonal survival. Using in vivo and in vitro studies, we demonstrate that NMNAT2 maintains the NAD-redox potential to provide “on-board” ATP via glycolysis to vesicular cargos in distal axons. Exogenous NAD+ supplementation to NMNAT2 KO neurons restores glycolysis and resumes fast axonal transport. Finally, we demonstrate both in vitro and in vivo that reducing the activity of SARM1, an NAD degradation enzyme, can reduce axonal transport deficits and suppress axon degeneration in NMNAT2 KO neurons. Conclusion NMNAT2 ensures axonal health by maintaining NAD redox potential in distal axons to ensure efficient vesicular glycolysis required for fast axonal transport.

With the increasing capacity of renewable energy generators, microgrid (MG) systems have experienced rapid development, and the optimal economic operation is one of the most important and challenging issues in the MG field. To reduce the overall generation cost of microgrids, a hybrid butterfly algorithm (HBOA) is proposed to address the optimal economic operation problem in MG systems. This algorithm uses adaptive switching thresholds to balance the global exploration capability and local exploitation capability of the algorithm. It introduces a diversity learning mechanism to enhance information exchange among populations to improve the algorithm's accuracy and proposes an elite-guided guidance strategy to accelerate the convergence speed of the algorithm. Numerical simulation experiments on 10 standard test functions validate that the HBOA algorithm has higher optimization accuracy and faster convergence speed. Simulation experiments are conducted on two operation modes of microgrids: Islanded and grid-connected, and compared with other algorithms. In islanded and grid-connected modes, HBOA can reduce operating costs by up to 11.7% and 17.7%, respectively. The experimental results confirm the applicability and superiority of the proposed algorithm for solving the optimal economic operation problem in microgrids.

Abstract Ferroptosis, a novel form of cell death triggered by iron-dependent phospholipid peroxidation, presents significant therapeutic potential across diverse cancer types. Central to cellular metabolism, the metabolic pathways associated with ferroptosis are discernible in both cancerous and immune cells. This review begins by delving into the intricate reciprocal regulation of ferroptosis between cancer and immune cells. It subsequently details how factors within the tumor microenvironment (TME) such as nutrient scarcity, hypoxia, and cellular density modulate ferroptosis sensitivity. We conclude by offering a comprehensive examination of distinct immunophenotypes and environmental and metabolic targets geared towards enhancing ferroptosis responsiveness within the TME. In sum, tailoring precise ferroptosis interventions and combination strategies to suit the unique TME of specific cancers may herald improved patient outcomes.

The increasing global nitrogen input poses a significant threat to aquatic environments, particularly in agricultural watersheds, where intensive human activities and insufficient water protection infrastructure exacerbate the risk of nitrogen pollution. Accurate identification of nitrogen pollution sources and the associated transformation processes is essential for protecting watershed ecosystems. In this study, a combination of hydrochemical analysis, correlation and principal component analysis, and stable nitrate isotopes (δ15N-NO3− and δ18O-NO3−) were employed to trace nitrogen transport pathways and source contributions in both surface water and groundwater within a typical agricultural watershed. The results revealed the presence of nitrogen pollution, including total nitrogen (TN), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and nitrate nitrogen (NO3−-N), with significant spatial and seasonal variations in both surface water and groundwater. The spatiotemporal evolution of hydrochemical indicators and nitrate isotope compositions highlighted multiple potential sources of nitrogen, including soil input, agricultural input, and manure and sewage input. The results from stable isotope analysis in an R (SIAR) model indicated that ammonium fertilizers (7.1~78.4%) and manure and sewage (2.6~69.7%) were the primary sources of nitrates in surface water, while manure and sewage were the main sources in groundwater (67.9~73.7%). This research demonstrated that nitrification, seasonal variations, and human activities significantly impact nitrogen migration and transformation in agricultural watersheds. However, the issue of groundwater severely polluted by manure and sewage has received insufficient attention. To effectively control nitrogen pollution in agricultural watersheds, it is necessary to improve septic tanks and sewage networks, as well as implement scientific fertilization practices.

During the operation of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), the Ni-8YSZ anodes are subjected to thermal mismatch and reoxidation, accompanied by the risk of damage and failure. These damages and failures are generally induced by small defects at the microscopic level, leading to the degradation of the structural bearing capacity. Therefore, the distribution and quantification of the stresses in the real microstructure of Ni-8YSZ electrodes is essential. In this study, the real Ni-8YSZ microstructure was reconstructed based on nano-computed tomography, and the stress distribution of the real microstructure was analyzed based on the finite element method under reoxidation and different operating temperatures. The failure probability of 8YSZ at different degrees of reoxidation was evaluated according to the Weibull method, and the amount of damaged 8YSZ elements was statistically counted. The study results indicate a high level of stress in the thin necks and relatively sharp areas of the microstructure. The 8YSZ has a high failure probability at a reoxidation extent of 5–10%.

Spermatozoa cryopreservation protocols have been established for yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco), but cryopreservation can still cause cellular damage and affect spermatozoa viability and fertility. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to evaluate the effects of adding or not adding cryoprotectants during low-temperature storage on the ultrastructural damage, oxidative damage, and DNA damage of thawed yellow catfish spermatozoa. The mixed semen of three male yellow catfish was divided into a fresh spermatozoa group, a frozen spermatozoa group (DMSO+) with a cryoprotectant (10% DMSO), and a frozen spermatozoa group without a cryoprotectant (DMSO−). Ultrastructural of the spermatozoa after thawing were observed under an electron microscope and the spermatozoa were assayed for SOD, MDA, and T-AOC enzyme activities, as well as for DNA integrity. In terms of movement parameters, compared with DMSO−, the addition of DMSO has significantly improved sperm motility, curve line velocity (VCL), and straight line velocity (VSL). The ultrastructural results showed that although thawed spermatozoa exhibited increased damage than fresh spermatozoa, 10% DMSO effectively reduced the damage to the plasma membrane, mitochondria, and flagellum of spermatozoa by cryopreservation, and most of the spermatozoa were preserved with intact structure. The results of oxidative damage showed that compared with frozen spermatozoa, 10% DMSO significantly increased the activities of SOD and T-AOC enzymes and clearly reduced the activity of the MDA enzyme. The antioxidant capacity of spermatozoa was improved, lipid peroxidation was reduced, and the oxidative damage caused by cryopreservation was mitigated. The DNA integrity of spermatozoa showed that 10% DMSO clearly reduced the DNA fragmentation rate. In conclusion, 10% DMSO can effectively reduce the ultrastructural damage, oxidative damage, and DNA damage of yellow catfish spermatozoa during cryopreservation; it can also further optimize the cryopreservation protocol for yellow catfish spermatozoa. Meanwhile, it also provides a theoretical basis for the future optimization of the cryopreservation protocols.

The current healthcare system suffers from information fragmentation. Achieving an efficient medical process necessitates coordination among healthcare institutions at different levels to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, with information synergy playing a crucial role in this endeavor. Due to concerns about information security and the costs associated with information construction, healthcare institutions are often reluctant to collaborate on information sharing. To address this issue, we propose an analytical framework for information synergy among different levels of healthcare institutions, which clarifies the impact of synergy benefits on the collaborative behavior of medical system members. We construct an evolutionary game model to study the dynamic strategy choices of the relevant participants. Our analysis reveals that general hospitals, as the main actors in the healthcare system, have a lower willingness to further invest in information construction and sharing. Their willingness is significantly influenced by the volume of information they can utilize from primary healthcare institutions. Moreover, interventions from the government and society can effectively encourage all members of the medical system to adopt collaborative information strategies. Establishing a comprehensive and unified information platform, actively promoting hierarchical diagnosis and treatment, and setting reasonable assessment indicators for the level of information available from healthcare institutions can significantly reduce the costs associated with information construction. These measures will enhance the benefits of information synergy, thereby facilitating the exchange of information within the healthcare system.

BackgroundVagus nerve stimulation (VNS) improves diseases such as refractory epilepsy and treatment-resistant depression, likely by rebalancing the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Intradermal auricular electro-acupuncture stimulation (iaES) produces similar effects. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different iaES frequencies on the parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions in different states of ANS imbalance.MethodsWe measured heart rate variability (HRV) and heart rate (HR) of non-modeled (normal) rats with the treatment of various frequencies to determine the optimal iaES frequency. The optimized iaES frequency was then applied to ANS imbalance model rats to elucidate its effects.Results30 Hz and 100 Hz iaES clearly affected HRV and HR in normal rats. 30 Hz iaES increased HRV, and decreased HR. 100 Hz iaES decreased HRV, and increased HR. In sympathetic excited state rats, 30 Hz iaES increased HRV. 100 Hz iaES increased HRV, and decreased HR. In parasympathetic excited state rats, 30 Hz and 100 Hz iaES decreased HRV. In sympathetic inhibited state rats, 30 Hz iaES decreased HRV, while 100 Hz iaES decreased HR. In parasympathetic inhibited rats, 30 Hz iaES decreased HR and 100 Hz iaES increased HRV.Conclusion30 Hz and 100 Hz iaES contribute to ANS rebalance by increasing vagal and sympathetic activity with different amplifications. The 30 Hz iaES exhibited positive effects in all the imbalanced states. 100 Hz iaES suppressed the sympathetic arm in sympathetic excitation and sympathetic/parasympathetic inhibition and suppressed the vagal arm and promoted the sympathetic arm in parasympathetic excitation and normal states.

Through numerical simulation, this study investigates the flow field characteristics of the variable diameter stabilizer in drilling tools under various conditions. It analyzes the influence of different flow rates and speeds on axial velocity and pressure distribution. The results indicate that more significant flow rates correspond to higher average axial velocities across sections, facilitating the transport of drilling fluid and cuttings. Increasing rotational speed leads to greater pressure differences between adjacent sections, consequently elevating the overall pressure drop of the tool, which, to some extent, aids in transporting drilling fluid with cuttings. During rotation, the vortex zone on the backside of the stabilizer creates a hovering and accumulation of cuttings, causing mud agglomeration, thereby affecting tool performance. During structural optimization of the tool, priority should be given to a transitional design of the outlet area in the functional core zone, aiming to alleviate the impact of abrupt structural expansions on cuttings transport.

IntroductionAccurate detection of potato seedlings is crucial for obtaining information on potato seedlings and ultimately increasing potato yield. This study aims to enhance the detection of potato seedlings in drone-captured images through a novel lightweight model.MethodsWe established a dataset of drone-captured images of potato seedlings and proposed the VBGS-YOLOv8n model, an improved version of YOLOv8n. This model employs a lighter VanillaNet as the backbone network in-stead of the original YOLOv8n model. To address the small target features of potato seedlings, we introduced a weighted bidirectional feature pyramid network to replace the path aggregation network, reducing information loss between network layers, facilitating rapid multi-scale feature fusion, and enhancing detection performance. Additionally, we incorporated GSConv and Slim-neck designs at the Neck section to balance accuracy while reducing model complexity. ResultsThe VBGS-YOLOv8n model, with 1,524,943 parameters and 4.2 billion FLOPs, achieves a precision of 97.1%, a mean average precision of 98.4%, and an inference time of 2.0ms. Comparative tests reveal that VBGS-YOLOv8n strikes a balance between detection accuracy, speed, and model efficiency compared to YOLOv8 and other mainstream networks. Specifically, compared to YOLOv8, the model parameters and FLOPs are reduced by 51.7% and 52.8% respectively, while precision and a mean average precision are improved by 1.4% and 0.8% respectively, and the inference time is reduced by 31.0%.DiscussionComparative tests with mainstream models, including YOLOv7, YOLOv5, RetinaNet, and QueryDet, demonstrate that VBGS-YOLOv8n outperforms these models in terms of detection accuracy, speed, and efficiency. The research highlights the effectiveness of VBGS-YOLOv8n in the efficient detection of potato seedlings in drone remote sensing images, providing a valuable reference for subsequent identification and deployment on mobile devices.

Diluted magnetic semiconducting nanostructures are attractive materials for spintronics applications. This study focuses on the fabrication of (Gd, Fe) co-doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs). X-ray diffractogram analysis confirms a monophase hexagonal wurtzite structure, matching JCPDS file number (36–1451). The Scherrer equation and Williamson-Hall plot are used to measure crystal size and strain, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy reveals a spherical surface morphology, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis confirms elemental composition. Transmission electron microscopy shows average diameter of 17–52 nm and fringe spaces of 0.269–0.245 nm. The incorporation of dopant ions leads to a slight reduction in the bandgap. The Fe3+ and Gd3+ oxidation states of the dopant elements are confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Functional groups are identified via Fourier transform spectroscopy, and structural defects are identified by photoluminescence analysis. Pristine ZnO NPs exhibit diamagnetic behavior, while the doped samples demonstrate ferromagnetic properties. The observed ferromagnetism in the doped NPs is attributed to bound magnetic polaron interactions. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy detects unpaired electrons in samples, with g factor values of approximately 2. The co-doping of Gd and Fe presents a promising approach for achieving ferromagnetism in ZnO systems, offering significant potential for advancement in spintronics technology.

Summary: Background: Treatment options remain rather limited for extensive disease small cell lung cancer (ED-SCLC) patients in second or further-line setting. Methods: The phase 2 investigator-initiated non-randomized study enrolled patients who had disease progression on at least one line of platinum-based chemotherapy. Participants received intravenous sintilimab 200 mg on day one and oral daily anlotinib 12 mg on days 1–14 once every three weeks per cycle. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoints included overall survival (OS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR) and safety. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04055792). Findings: Forty-two patients were enrolled between August 29, 2019 and December 26, 2021 at Henan Cancer Hospital in China. 37 patients were evaluable for efficacy. The median follow-up was 24.8 months (IQR: 16.9–28.2). The median PFS was 6.1 months (95% CI: 5.0–7.3). The OS was 12.7 months (95% CI: 7.1–18.2). The ORR was 56.8% (21/37, 95% CI: 40.0–73.5) and the DCR was 89.2% (33/37, 95% CI: 78.7–99.7). Forty patients (40/42, 95%) had at least one treatment-related adverse event (TRAE). Immune-related adverse events (irAEs) were reported in 39 patients (39/42, 93%), while grade 3 or higher irAEs occurred in 11 patients (11/42, 26%). The most frequent irAEs were hypothyroidism (16/42, 38%), elevated gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (15/42, 36%) and elevated creatine kinase MB (15/42, 36%). The most frequent grade 3 or higher irAEs were elevated gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (5/42, 12%) and increased aspartate aminotransferase (3/42, 7%). Interpretation: Sintilimab plus anlotinib demonstrated promising antitumor activities as second or further-line therapy for ED-SCLC and had manageable toxicities. The findings support further randomized controlled trials of this combination regimen for ED-SCLC. ObjectiveIn this study, we investigated the characteristics of the intestinal microbiota of preterm infants, and then analyzed the effects of probiotics supplementation on intestinal microbiota in preterm infants.MethodsThis study enrolled 64 infants born between 26 and 32 weeks gestational age (GA) and 22 full-term infants. 34 premature infants received oral probiotic supplementation for 28 days. Stool samples were obtained on the first day (D1) and the 28th day (D28) after birth for each infant. Total bacterial DNA was extracted and sequenced using the Illumina MiSeq Sequencing System, specifically targeting the V3-V4 hyper-variable regions of the 16S rDNA gene. The sequencing results were then used to compare and analyze the composition and diversity index of the intestinal microbiota.ResultsThere was no significant difference in meconium bacterial colonization rate between premature and full-term infants after birth (p > 0.05). At D1, the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium, Bacteroides, and Lactobacillus in the stool of preterm infants was lower than that of full-term infants, and the relative abundance of Acinetobacter was higher than that of full-term infants. The Shannon index and Chao1 index of intestinal microbiota in preterm infants are lower than those in full-term infants (p < 0.05). Supplementation of probiotics can increase the relative abundance of Enterococcus and Enterobacter, and reduce the relative abundance of Escherichia and Clostridium in premature infants. The Chao1 index of intestinal microbiota decreased in preterm infants after probiotic supplementation (p < 0.05).ConclusionThe characteristics of intestinal microbiota in preterm infants differ from those in full-term infants. Probiotic supplementation can reduce the relative abundance of potential pathogenic bacteria and increase the abundance of beneficial microbiota in premature infants.

We report a case of a 4-year-old boy with lysinuric protein intolerance in China. The patient presented with interstitial lung disease with obvious clubbing of the fingers and toes. During the course of diagnosis and treatment, we found he was averse to a high-protein diet, intolerant to activity, and had a history of diarrhea and fractures. Physical examination revealed hepatosplenomegaly and clubbing of the fingers and toes. Next-generation sequencing revealed compound heterozygous mutations (c.1387delG, c.958T > C) in SLC7A7, which was confirmed as a disease-causing gene for lysinuric protein intolerance. After a literature review, we found that c.958T > C had not been previously reported, and summarized the clinical and genetic characteristics of patients from different continents. His symptoms improved significantly after 3 months of being on a low-protein diet, supplementation with lysine, citrulline, carnitine, and trace elements, and oral corticosteroid treatment for 2 months. The patient is still under follow-up.
