1. LowREm: A Repository of Word Embeddings for 87 Low-Resource Languages Enhanced with Multilingual Graph Knowledge

Abstract

Contextualized embeddings based on large language models (LLMs) are available for various languages, but their coverage is often limited for lower resourced languages. Training LLMs for such languages is often difficult due to insufficient data and high computational cost. Especially for very low resource languages, static word embeddings thus still offer a viable alternative. There is, however, a notable lack of comprehensive repositories with such embeddings for diverse languages. To address this, we present LowREm, a centralized repository of static embeddings for 87 low-resource languages. We also propose a novel method to enhance GloVe-based embeddings by integrating multilingual graph knowledge, utilizing another source of knowledge. We demonstrate the superior performance of our enhanced embeddings as compared to contextualized embeddings extracted from XLM-R on sentiment analysis. 2. Electron and Muon $(g-2)_{e,\mu}$ Anomalous Magnetic Moment in $U(1)_{L_e-L_{\mu}}$ Symmetry Model

Abstract

The nature of neutrino (whether Majorana or Dirac) and the origin of neutrino masses are still some of the mysteries to be resolved. Also, the recent results on (g-2)$_{e,\mu}$ measurements deviate from the Standard Model (SM) predictions and motivate us towards new physics beyond the SM. In this work, we propose a model with the minimal field content in the framework of anomaly free extension of Standard Model; i.e. U(1)$_{L_e-L_{\mu}}$ symmetry model. We find this model capable of explaining the low energy neutrino phenomenology and anomalous magnetic moment(g-2)$_{e,\mu}$ of electron and muon, simultaneously. The field content is extended by a SU(2)$_L$ singlet scalar field $\phi$ and three right handed neutrinos N$_R$(R = 1,2,3). Thus, the neutrino masses are generated using the Type-I seesaw mechanism. The extended model leads to the results, which are in consistency with the experimental values of (g-2)$_{e,\mu}$ and also satisfy all the relevant experimental data., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures and 2 tables

Abstract

We provide upper bounds on the total number of irreducible factors, and in particular irreducibility criteria for some classes of bivariate polynomials $f(x,y)$ over an arbitrary field $\mathbb{K}$. Our results rely on information on the degrees of the coefficients of $f$, and on information on the factorization of the constant term and of the leading coefficient of $f$, viewed as a polynomial in $y$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{K}[x]$. In particular, we provide a generalization of the bivariate version of Perron's irreducibility criterion, and similar results for polynomials in an arbitrary number of indeterminates. The proofs use non-Archimedean absolute values, that are suitable for finding information on the location of the roots of $f$ in an algebraic closure of $\mathbb{K}(x)$., Comment: 14 pages

Mathematical reasoning serves as a cornerstone for assessing the fundamental cognitive capabilities of human intelligence. In recent times, there has been a notable surge in the development of Large Language Models (LLMs) geared towards the automated resolution of mathematical problems. However, the landscape of mathematical problem types is vast and varied, with LLM-oriented techniques undergoing evaluation across diverse datasets and settings. This diversity makes it challenging to discern the true advancements and obstacles within this burgeoning field. This survey endeavors to address four pivotal dimensions: i) a comprehensive exploration of the various mathematical problems and their corresponding datasets that have been investigated; ii) an examination of the spectrum of LLM-oriented techniques that have been proposed for mathematical problem-solving; iii) an overview of factors and concerns affecting LLMs in solving math; and iv) an elucidation of the persisting challenges within this domain. Abstract

Background: As the male factor in infertility is on rising trend, we need a promising tool for sperm selection to improve the embryo development. Aim: The present study compares the embryological and clinical parameters between physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection (PICSI) and conventional intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in abnormal semen parameters. Settings and Design: This was a retrospective cohort study. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted over the duration of 9 months from April to December 2023. One hundred and four patients, who matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were enrolled in the study. The adjusted blastulation rate was evaluated as the primary outcome, and the secondary outcomes studied were fertilisation rate, good-quality cleavage stage embryo rate, clinical pregnancy and miscarriage rate. Statistical Analysis Used: The outcome measures were calculated using independent Student’s t-test, and P < 0.5 was considered statistically significant. Results: The 104 enrolled patients were divided into two groups. In the study population (n = 51), PICSI was used for sperm selection and the controls (n = 53) used conventional ICSI. The adjusted blastulation rate was statistically significant higher in the PICSI group (43.7%) as compared to the controls (34.2%) (P = 0.022). The fertilisation and cleavage rates were not statistically different amongst the groups. The pregnancy rate (37.2% vs. 32%, P = 0.027) and miscarriage rate (5.3% vs. 11.7%, P = 0.005) were statistically better in the PICSI group. Conclusion: PICSI may improve treatment outcomes in couples undergoing assisted reproduction for male factor infertility. However, larger randomised controlled trials are needed for validating the current study findings.

Abstract

Midfacial defects are defined as ones limited to the middle one-third of the face in the horizontal axis which communes with intraoral maxillary defects. They affect patient’s phonation, chewing capacity, quality of life, and social and community behavior. Surgical reconstruction alone is inadequate to rehabilitate these large midfacial defects, thereby necessitating use of a maxillofacial prosthesis to restore form, function, esthetics and comfort. The present case report presents the prosthetic restoration of a surgical defect secondary to treatment of rhinocerebral mucormycosis with an extraoral (exenteration) and intraoral (Armany Class IV) defect connected with magnetic attachment.

Abstract

Background: The Cinnamomum impressinervium (CI) Meisn. Tree, which belongs to the Lauraceae family and is endemic to India, is also called Assameses or Tejiya. Numerous pharmacological properties of this plant, including anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, have been demonstrated. Materials and method: This study examines the phytochemical profile of the leaf using qualitative and quantitative methods. Following the phytochemical analysis of the leaf, the antioxidant efficacy for scavenging free radicals (ABTS and DPPH) was measured. Using the agar well diffusion method, the antibacterial potential of the crude extract and its fractions (aqueous, methanolic, n-hexane, and chloroform) was investigated against six gram-negative, three gram-positive, and one fungal strain. Result and discussion: Antioxidant activities of various extracts viz: aqueous, hexane, chloroform, and ethanol were prepared and subjected to antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. Through qualitative analysis, several alkaloids, steroids, and flavones were identified. In the DPPH and ABTS assays, the aqueous extract had the most potent antioxidant activity, with IC50 values of 123.83±0.42 and 57.86±0.85 μg/mL, respectively. DNA nicking assay is a qualitative analysis that shows DNA protection from free radicals. All the extracts towards B. atropheous showed best inhibition activity but a maximum zone of inhibition was shown by aqueous extracts measuring 40 mm. Aqueous and methanolic extracts are completely inactive towards S. typhi. Conclusion: This study revealed the antioxidant and antimicrobial efficacy of various extracts of Cinnamomum impressinervium Meisn. Leaves In this paper, the antibacterial activity of leaf extracts from Cinnamomum impressinervium Meisn. were studied. The evaluated extracts showed varied levels of inhibitory zones against every tested bacterium.

Abstract

Abstract Tecoma stans is a widely distributed tall ornamental shrub in the plains of Indian subcontinent and is considered an invasive species across Argentina, Australia, South Africa, Pacific Islands and tropical regions of Asia. Besides having an ornamental significance, T. stans has been extensively investigated for its pharmaceutical applications as a source of bioactive compounds. In addition, the shrub is cultivated commercially as a potted flowering plant. We believe that T. stans, being a hardy, invasive and aggressively growing species, holds a considerable potential and a promising solution for re-greening waste and degraded lands outside its invasive range, due to its wider adaptability and drought tolerant characteristics. The shrub is an excellent source of pollen and nectar, that attracts diverse insect-pollinators and several species of birds. The prudent plantation of this shrub has the potential to restore the ecology of barren landscapes, that can change its perspective of ‘being invasive’ to ‘being ecologically healthy’ across the tropical, semi-arid and subtropical regions worldwide. This paper reviews the current updates on ecology, life cycle including morphology, plant growth characteristics, flowering phenology, reproductive biology, breeding system and fruiting of T. stans. In addition, details on insect-pollinator diversity and natural regeneration potential have also been discussed, besides highlighting its therapeutic and landscape use.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mass transfer and entropy generation in the flow system of chemically reactive, thermal radiative hybrid nanofluids (Al2O3/Cu with H2O as base fluid) flow across flat stretching porous surfaces in the presence of viscous dissipation and transverse magnetic field. The governing partial differential equations are converted into a set of ordinary differential equations by applying a group of self-similarity transformations. The resulting differential equations are solved using the Bvp4c technique in MATLAB. The impact of several physical parameters has been examined the velocity, heat, and mass transfer components of the fluid. To optimize the complete heat transfer process, the consequences of all physical parameters are discussed on entropy generation and Bejan number and presented graphically. It is observed that velocity increases with the increase in magnetic parameter M because pressure force dominates over Lorentz force, temperature increases with the rise of Ec, concertation reduces with the enhancement of chemical reaction parameter delta, and the Bejan number decreases with the increase in Br; however, reverse phenomena are observed with increasing the value of the magnetic number and entropy increases with the rise of magnetic parameter M. Due to the increase in magnetic parameter M, drag force is accelerated, which leads to increase in entropy, With an increment in Pr and Ec, the heat exchange rate declines although the skin friction coefficient and mass transfer remain constant. There are several significant applications of the study of thermal analysis of hybrid nanofluid flows in numerous mechanical processes, such as extrusion or metal manufacturing processes, heat transportation in biological tissues, cooling of electric devices, high-size refrigeration, hydroelectric dams, and fuel systems.

IntroductionThe purpose of this study is to systematically compare and assess the differences in perceptual-cognitive skills between expert and non-expert sports officials, and further explore the potential differences caused by different types of sports officials, in order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the perceptual-cognitive skills of sports officials.MethodsRelevant literature published before 31 December 2022 was searched in four English databases. Review Manager 5.4 and Stata 12.0 software were used for meta-analysis and bias test.ResultsExpert sports officials are significantly more accurate in their decision-making than non-expert sports officials, and exhibit a large amount of effect size (SMD = 1.09; 95%CI: 0.52, 1.66; P < 0.05). Expert sports officials had significantly fewer number of fixations than non-expert sports officials and showed a moderate amount of effect size (SMD = 0.71; 95%CI: 1.25, 0.17; P < 0.05). Expert sports officials' duration of fixation (SMD = 0.23; 95%CI: 0.25, 0.71; P = 0.35) were not significantly different from non-expert sports officials.DiscussionIt can be seen that there are differences in the Perceptual-cognitive skills of expert and non-expert sports officials. Decision-making accuracy can serve as an important indicator for distinguishing the perceptual-cognitive skills of expert and non-expert sports officials. Abstract

The study aimed to assess the plant growth-promoting (PGP) capabilities and abiotic stress tolerance of strain IHB B 7164 with a focus on identifying associated genes through genomic analysis. Isolated from the tea rhizosphere, strain underwent screening for multiple PGP traits and stress tolerance against various abiotic factors. Taxonogenomic analysis of the complete genome identified the bacterium as Priestia megaterium exhibiting high similarity (97.04 % ANI, 74.3 % in silico DDH) to P. megaterium ATCC 14581. Functional annotations of the genome highlighted gene clusters associated with PGP traits and stress tolerance substantiating the strain's potential in promoting plant growth under stress conditions. The strain demonstarted robust growth and PGP activities under stressed culture conditions such as acidity, temperature fluctuations, desiccation, salinity, and exposure to calcium, aluminum, and iron salts, affirming its status as a stress-tolerant rhizobacterium. Screening of PGP traits under acidic conditions revealed phosphate solubilization, ACC-deaminase activity and production of IAA-like auxins. Notably gluconic and oxalic acids were consistently detected during solubilization of tri-calcium phosphate (TCP), aluminum phosphate (Al-P), and iron phosphate (Fe-P). Inoculation with the strain led to significant enhancements in tea nursery plants including a 9 % increase in plant height, 10 % increase in leaf number, and substantial improvements in leaf fresh and dry weights. Similarly, pea and wheat yields recorded notable increases of 16.9 % and 18.3 %, respectively under field conditions. These findings underscore the efficacy of P. megaterium strain IHB B 7164 as an abiotic stress-tolerant and broad-spectrum plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) capable of enhancing plant growth and productivity across diverse agricultural settings.

Abstract

Background: COVID-19 is primarily known as a respiratory illness; however, many patients present to hospital without respiratory symptoms. The association between non-respiratory presentations of COVID-19 and outcomes remains unclear. We investigated risk factors and clinical outcomes in patients with no respiratory symptoms (NRS) and respiratory symptoms (RS) at hospital admission. Methods: This study describes clinical features, physiological parameters, and outcomes of hospitalised COVID-19 patients, stratified by the presence or absence of respiratory symptoms at hospital admission. RS patients had one or more of: cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose or wheezing; while NRS patients did not. Results: Of 178,640 patients in the study, 86.4 % presented with RS, while 13.6 % had NRS. NRS patients were older (median age: NRS: 74 vs RS: 65) and less likely to be admitted to the ICU (NRS: 36.7 % vs RS: 37.5 %). NRS patients had a higher crude in-hospital case-fatality ratio (NRS 41.1 % vs. RS 32.0 %), but a lower risk of death after adjusting for confounders (HR 0.88 [0.83–0.93]). Conclusion: Approximately one in seven COVID-19 patients presented at hospital admission without respiratory symptoms. These patients were older, had lower ICU admission rates, and had a lower risk of in-hospital mortality after adjusting for confounders.
